If my store will not allow overage aka money making deals what should I do TIA

Linds @ Deals to Disney January 8, 2011 at 5:26 pm

Money Makers just mean you paid less than the RR you get back because of all your coupons. So you will pay something at the register, but no stores allow overage- you have to find some small, cheaper items to fill in the gap so you end up paying SOMETHING.

When you make separate transactions, how do you do this? Check out, leave and come back for the #2 and then repeat this again for #3 or can you stand in line with all these items, check out, start a new transaction, check out…etc.

Thanks.

making my total about 7.00 plus tax ?!?!?!?

mandi January 8, 2011 at 10:27 pm

so the money maker on the toothbrushes and floss tomorrow I just have to get fillers to eat the overage? Im fairly new to couponing still and wet behind the ears if you will :)TIA

ADAM – It’s a little more work but try going to
http://www.specialk.com/challenge/
and setting up a plan – you should be able to print it after that.

SHERRI – It depends. If the store is empty I might do 2 or 3 in a row. If not I might do one, then go over to cosmetics or photo and do another. If I’m pressed for time I might do 1 or 2 and come back later in the week to pick up where I left off.

JENN – The Stayfree’s basically come out to be FREE. It’s the Reach that’s the super duper deal.

BETH – Thanks!

MANDI – Yes, you would need stuff to eat any overage, even if it was just $.01.

Thanks Christe, BTW my cosmetic cashier gave me a card today that when I spend $100 (it’s like a hole punch card 10 $10.00 hole punch spots)
I think she said when I get all my spots covered the card can be used for 15% my next total or 30% off wags items…Does your store have this?

Jenn,
It must be a store thing. I work at a Walgreens and we don’t do that at our store. I’m also pretty sure that it’s 20 percent off walgreens items. It sounds like our employee discount: 20 percent off walgreens items and 15 percent off all other items. EXCLUSIONS: gift cards, dairy, tobacco, alcohol, prescriptions, magazines, newspapers, phone cards.

Good morning!!

Just made a run to Walgreens, and here’s what happened…
Got:
2 Kellog’s special K – $5
2 toothbrushes (Reach + whitening) – $9.58

Coupons given in the following sequence:
1 b1g1 tootbrush (-4.79)
1 $1 off tootbrush (-1)
1 $2 off store q (-4)
1 $1 off 2 special K – it beeped. This would be the 4th coupon, and I had 4 items.

Then I tried a $1RR and it went through, so I just paid the difference and walked away. The 2 RR for Kellog’s printed.

If I had left the tootbrush store q for after the manf kellog’s q, do you think it would have worked??

Thanks in advance and happy shopping!!!

Christie January 9, 2011 at 12:28 pm

Leslie – I have no idea why it beeped. What was the size of the Special K Q coupon and the size of the one you are buying?

I’m in FL and I got all 3 inserts but I didn’t recieve the Stayfree coupon! I’m so bummed I was going to use them this morning at Walgreens. If anyone has any extra they aren’t going to use I would really appreciate it! Here’s my email: [email protected]

Thank you so much for posting these every week! I am not always able to do them as good as you do (my coupon packet is pretty small), but IO am able to use some of your ideas.

I posted my trip from yesterday (the Celsius green tea was quite a eal with $1 off coupon – I didn’t clear the shelves, though, I am always careful not to do that!

I posted my most recent trip here: http://livingonthecheap.blogspot.com/2011/01/walgreens-trip-yesterday-1751.html

Thank you!!

AWw, i’m really sad. I just bought 3 papers, and I didn’t get a single good coupon. I didn’t get the 6 off 2 motrin, which i needed for rite aid, or the bogo free stayfree up to $6, which I really needed, because with a family of mostly girls, we always fun out. I was gonna stock up, but now I can’t. ๐Ÿ™

I didn’t get the Stayfree b1g1 free coupon either, should still get an okay deal using the $3 Walgreens coupon and I had printed a b1g1 free up to $3 last week.

I went this morning to buy the stayfree and handed in my coupons b1g1, $1 off, and then when we got to the in ad Q the dreaded coupon fraud phrase came up. What would you say if this came up?

Reply

Christie January 9, 2011 at 1:49 pm

Emily – I would 1) Tell them that coupon fraud is using a coupon for the wrong item or printing fake coupons, neither of which you are doing. 2) Show them their own coupon policy that allows you to stack coupons. 3) Call corporate and complain.

In fact, I think next time a cashier accuses me of coupon fraud I might just tell them that they need to call the police. In fact I may insist on it. Either let me use my coupons or call the cops. ๐Ÿ™‚

Kelly January 9, 2011 at 2:42 pm

I called Walgreens corporate once and explained the situation when they wouldn’t accet my coupons – they apologized, called the store, and now whenever I go to that store, they accept my coupons!

There are some cashiers that do not like couponer’s like myself – also, I once went to a Walgreens who gave me a hard time for splitting up my transactions – they are all so different, it can be frustrating! I do think, however, they are trying to do their best and don’t undestand coupons ike the rest of us (at least, it makes me feel better to think that).

Another time at Old Navy for a shirt that was on sale and a coupon – when I went to buy it, the cashier said I was getting too good of a deal and made me feel like a criminal for using a coupon with the sale! I got gutsy and asked why she would say something when I was abiding by the store rules…she stared at me blankly. It was kind of weird!

For every bad transaction I have, there are several good ones – for example, a cashier at Target gave me a high-five because I used coupons to save a lot of money ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday My walgreens didnt let me use coupon on their clearence stuff. I was in a hurry and didnt want to get into a discussion. I feel Wags transaction smoothness highly depends on the cashier you get.

I made a purchase at Wags earlier and my total was $16.05 after Q’s. Then I tried to use some RR from the previous week ($10RR from the Nyquil deal) and the register beeped and the cashier said that I had already used to many Q’s and would not take them. Any advise to why they would not take the RR? Still got $58.05 worth of stuff for $16.05 so I not to mad.

Reply

Christie January 9, 2011 at 7:05 pm

Hi Scrooge – It’s a little hard to answer without knowing what you bought but you can’t have more coupons than items in your order. So if you bought 10 items and used 9 coupons, you could only use 1 Register Reward. If you wanted to use more you’d need to buy a filler, some inexpensive item, maybe $.25 No Nonsense knee highs and that would let you use another Register Reward.

I didn’t get quite as good of a deal for Stayfree. The cashier said he had to do Walgreen coupons before manufacturers so ended up paying $2.79 for 2 packs. He did call the manager though to see if we could use the $2 off Wags coupon for clearance Total Care Reach toothbrushes. The manager said it was ok so with the $2/2 coupon we only had to pay the tax.

Does anyone know hoe they figure taxes? I am in Fl so it is 7% sales tax.
I have tried to see if before coupons, after coupons, after walgreen in ad Q’s and it is driving me crazy that I can’t fiqure it out. Cashiers were no help and did not know either. On scenario # 1 doing it exactly except used $3 RR so total was .96 My tax was 1.19 and total was $2.15
No problems I am just bonkers that I can’t figure the tax. Thanks

I went this morning to buy the stayfree and handed in my coupons b1g1 and then when we got to the in ad Q the cashier saw that deal is too good for me and she changed the scenario – Walgreens Q first, and MQ second. She did this mannually. I know it should beep, but she did this. I was in shock. I refused to buy anything. What would you say if this came up?

i went to walgreens and purchased the pantene shampoo/conditoner that i was suppose to get $2 RR back, but since i paid the diff. with partial RR, i was told i couldnt get RR for the deal? so, if i pay for a transanaction with RR, I can’t get any RR back?

When you have coupons for us to win, such as the Finish coupons or Stayfree coupons, do you email/scan them to the winners or snail mail? Just wondering (if i ever win…lol).

Thanks.

@ Scrooge

I had the same issue. I bought 3 items and had 1 Q per item. I then tried the RR and it would not take. Another cashier came over and said it would not take because I had already used 1Q per item. I remembered the .25 no nonsense knee highs as a filler. It then took the RR and worked fine.

Margaret January 13, 2011 at 4:50 pm

My store could not make the stay free b1g1 free coupon work. It was awful. They kept trying it even without the walgreen’s q and it wouldn’t work at all.

Reply

Christie January 13, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Margaret – When they scan the coupon it should beep, prompting them to enter the amount to take off (in this case $6). What was the problem?

Reply

Margaret January 14, 2011 at 6:14 pm

Apparently, the cashier and manager didn’t know what to do when it beeped. The last thing they tried was to scan 2 and then try the b1g1 q without the wal q. They were acting like it wouldn’t even scan the coupon at all. This was after about 10 minutes of them trying to scan that coupon. I’m thinking I need to take back the entire transaction. I ended up buying 2, with the wal q and a $2 rr. Definitely, wasn’t the deal I was expecting. And they wrote on my b1g1 q! They also took my $1 off q and didn’t give it back to me! No fun!

Reply

Margaret January 14, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Went to a different store and was able to do the transaction perfectly. I’m not sure if the other store really wanted to do the transation. Weird…
