Walgreens On-Line Ad ONLY Register Rewards

by Christie Bisbee on February 10, 2012

Walgreens has started printing a smaller ad with additional deals and Register Rewards available ONLY on-line. You can access them if you get the Walgreens Sneak Peek on Friday mornings or on-line at Walgreens.com starting Sunday mornings.

I’ll include those as part of the Register Reward deals every week and I’ll clearly label them as “ON-LINE AD ONLY” so you don’t get confused. But since this is the first week with these I wanted to make a separate post to bring it to your attention.

Now, I have to say besides couponers I don’t know who all are these people that are just dying to checkout the Walgreens ad on-line early. But, the great news for us is that not many people are going to know these deals exist (unless they read a site like this one), so we’ll have more stock available! So yay for us! 🙂

One word of caution is since these deals aren’t in the paper ad you may want to have them available to pull up on you phone or ipad just in case they don’t ring up properly, or print the Register Reward.

On a lighter note – I almost fell out of my chair laughing this morning when I saw one of the “On-line Ad Only” Register Reward deals was for Fixodent denture adhesive. Not sure who thought THAT was a brilliant marketing move but, hey, that’s why they make the big bucks. 😉

So how does these online only ads work? Do we need to buy items online or can we purchase them in store and still get RR?
Thank you

I thought at first that this was for online ordering but when I noticed you matched up coupons, I knew it must be for in-store purchases.

Thanks so much for keeping us informed. Wildforwags is my go-to place for finding the WAGS deals!

Gee, doesn’t every 80 yr old lady check online to see if Walgreens has a good deal on denture cream!? As if Walgreens wasn’t confusing enough….I always feel bad for the little old ladies that can’t figure out how the deals work.

Thanks for posting the online only ads, I would have had no clue!

I went to Walgreen’s a couple of days ago and bought 4 items that all had RRs and not a single RR printed. I used 3 manufacturers coupons and 1 RR that was not a company related to the four items. The manager mistakenly said it was because I used a RR during the transaction.

He tested one item by ringing up a transaction and it didn’t print the RR for him either. He allowed me to cancel my transaction by refunding me the money and handing back the coupons and RR. He said he would put an order with corporate to fix the issue.

Hope I don’t have a problem using the RR again. I am curious to know how long RRs weren’t printing at all at that Walgreen’s location.

Christie, do you have any data on the percentage of Walgreen RRs that go unused due to expiration/lost. I can’t imagine that it is anywhere close to what it is for regular gift cards.

Working at Walgreens, many people don’t want the catalina coupons that print (sometimes RR) so they get thrown away. Add that to the number of people that throw them away after receiving them, how many go expired, and much more things.

My wags had a delay when the RR’s printed by almost 2-3 minutes. They said it was because new register systems were going in. Not sure but, I was rstarting to get mad when my $5. RR finally printed out.

I am not looking forward to these new systems since they attach the MQ to the item and also the SQ to the receipt so no MM’s unless it is a RR deal. The computers allow no overage on items.

Lin – that’s an interesting question, but I imagine it’s probably a good deal. First of all they expire, unlike gift cards that don’t. And second lots of people don’t even know what they are and toss them in the trash.

I am not really sure I am understanding the on-line ads. Does that mean we have to have them on our cell phone to show at Walgreens? Or are they just like unadvertised items for RR’s? Dont know why they have to get so confusing, but I for one will check for them. Thanks so much…

They are un-advertised deals. So, you won’t find them in the paper ad. They should ring up in store however, and hopefully have signs.

The reason I suggest having it available on a phone for example, is let’s say you buy an advertised item and the RR doesn’t print and it’s only in the new “on-line ad”. You can’t just pick up a paper ad and say “see there’s the deal”. So, it makes it a little harder to prove when it’s not in the ad.

I hope that made sense. 😛 I know – I’m all for non-confusing too!

Am I the only one who doesn’t have a fancy phone with an internet connection? I am really getting tired of these “phone” apps and coupons on your phone kind of deals that leave many of us out of the loop!

Jan – I hear you! I’m not really a gadget person. LOL. I like the good old paper coupons too. 🙂

Just to clarify, you won’t need a fancy phone to do these deals. I’m just trying to give everyone as many tips as possible, just in case they have an issue at the store. Like when you pull out a printed version of the coupon policy (some people pull it up on their phone).

Thanks for the response. I will just copy from your site onto notepad to print off the unadvertised RR’s.
Thanks for all the help you have given me. I am still learning something new every week from you..

This lil ole lady has been couponing since before most of you were born and I haven’t had any difficulty figuring out the best deals at any store including Walgreens. I would like to see more items aimed at the “Seniors” on sale, with coupons, and RR. I’m NOT thrilled about perhaps needing to show the on-line ad on my cell phone since I only have a basic model and will not be able to do so. And I DON’T plan to upgrade since I see no need to have that kind of expense (still saving). I should change my name to Frugal Granny…just saying.

I totally understand! 🙂

The good news is you won’t need a fancy phone for these new “on-line” deals. It’s more like back up just in case, since you can’t just pull out the ad. These deals should ring up correctly in the store and they should have signs. Or so we hope! 😉

Hope my comment didn’t offend you! I was referring to the noncouponing older people who just glance at the ad and then don’t understand why their items ring up at a higher price. I certainly don’t think ‘little old ladies’ aren’t smart, I just think a lot of them are unaware of all the different coupons and RR.

For the record – my Mom is an avid Walgreens shopper and smart as a whip, but there is no way on this planet that she’s going on-line to look at a Walgreens ad. She uses her weekly ad to plan her coupon trips and that’s just the way that’s going to be.

Unless Walgreens is going to buy her a computer, an internet connection, an android phone and some computer lessons… that’s not going to change. LOL.

So I know what you mean Ashley. 🙂

I’m glad you understand, I’m feeling really bad about my earlier comment now!
It’s just that I’ve seen older people coming in looking for the .99 cent lotion and not understanding what the IVC, MQ, and RR is (unless they’re couponers!). It doesn’t help that my cashiers are NOT helpful.
Honestly, I’m 26 and my phone is not smart enough to show ads or special coupons. I’d prefer they cater to older people so that I can keep up, lol! And Walgreens IS a drugstore, so….yeh, it’s not a good idea for them to get so complicated and online ad crazy.

I agree that their signage is often confusing.I have explained the Wags policies and ads to my grandma dozens of times, but I still either have to take her shopping WITH me, or just do her shopping for her. She TOTALLY does not get it. And often, the employees at my 2 local Wags don’t get it either!

Well, for the little old ladies without an Internet connection, there’s also $1 RR on both the Adhesive Cream, 2 to 2.4oz, and the Cleanser Tablets, 78 pack, that IS advertised in the paper ad :).
