there is a $2 MFR coupon for the ROC. My store got some maybe last month or so. So maybe the BAs still have some.

I tried this stuff last year. I did not like it. I love lotion. We get so many wonderful deals on lotions. This stuff smelled bad and did not work any better than other less expensive brands.

Has anyone heard about some Wags stores doing away with RRs?? That’s the word on the street about one that is near me.

Reply

Mary September 2, 2011 at 3:12 pm

Rumor was that CVS was gonna do the same … seriously doubt it … probably something a store manager made up to scare us couponers into going away … sorry, I’m not going anywhere! Besides if it weren’t for coupons, ECBs, and RR I wouldn’t be buying top name brands. Walgreen’s will continue to have Register Rewards as long as CVS, Target, and Wal-Mart are around with their competitive prices.

I agree. The stores are FIGHTING for our money. W/O the incentives I wouldn’t be able to shop. Rumors are just that. Until we see it in writing then I would believe it. Maybe the rumors are started by people who don’t think it is necessary to be good stewards of our money or just don’t get it or don’t care how much money they spend. I’m retired and I have never had so much fun buying so much for so little. Just this morning I spent $37 at Wags and they GAVE $25 in RR. I have been able to start my Chirstmas shopping early this year. Oh, yes, as long as you pay me to shop at Wags I will.

robin September 2, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Well… seems that the store that this is happening at has, indeed, quit using the RRs b/c they are one of the test stores using the Wags points card {similar to the CVS card} but you have to have like 2000 points to = $5. is what I’m told. Anyway, they have done away w/ the RRs in exchange for the points card. So if you have Wags that you frequent that are using the rewards card… beware that this in all likelyhood will happen there as well.

@Robin, I’ve read about those point cards and indeed, the number of points one has to earn to get ANY $$ back is VERY high. Every week I keep expecting to see an announcement at my store that we are moving to them.

At the point card trial stores, if the point cards don’t negatively impact their business, they will probably transition to them nationally. I was told it is b/c of people gaming/abusing the RR system.

Here is some info on the Point program that Walgreens has implemented in some of their stores.

I assure you it is real, and RRs may definitely be going away. The fact they are moving it to even more stores as a trial is not a good sign.

Read on below for the details…
——————————————————–
“…If you shop at Walgreens, you probably have a Walgreens Rewards card by now. You might look at the ad and see statements like “10x points” and “500 bonus points” when you purchase select items. These statements might have you a little confused. What do these bonus points translate to in dollars? The short answer: not much.”

Here’s a little rewards card 101:

:: $1 spent = 10 points

When you spend $1 at Walgreens you will get 10 points. When you spend $.99 at Walgreens you will get 0 points (kind of stingy).

:: You must spend REAL money

When we say $1 we mean $1 of REAL money. You are going to have to actually spend some cash to see any points accumulate on your account. If you purchase the Frixion Gel pens this week they will cost you $1.99. Technically you should receive 10 points. But then you use coupons and your total comes to $0. Because you actually didn’t fork over any real money, you get 0 points.

For this reason, I have a bathroom cabinet bursting at the seems with Walgreens purchases and I have about 300 points to show for it.

:: 2000 points = $5 rewards certificate

You must accumulate 2000 points in order to get a $5 rewards certificate. That means you will have to spend $200 in order to get a $5 rewards certificate. That means for every dollar you spend you will get 2.5 cents back (assuming you EVER reach 2000 points).

:: What 10x points translates to

If an item in the ad says 10x points it still won’t amount to much. Lets say you purchase a $3 item. If you multiply this by ten you get 300 points. Remember you need 2000 points to get your $5 reward. This means your points will be worth roughly $.75.

If you want an easy way to figure this out, just multiply each dollar spent by 2.5 cents. If you have 5x points, then take that number and multiply by five.

:: 500 bonus points

Sometimes you will get bonus points for buying an item. Just remember that 2000 points is $5. So 500 bonus points would be $1.25. In most cases, this won’t be enough to make the item a good deal.

:: Redeeming Your Rewards

In order to ever see your rewards you will need to create and account at the Walgreens Rewards website and redeem your rewards.

Mel September 3, 2011 at 5:44 pm

Noticed after I posted that some of her math is wrong. The deals are actually WORSE than she wrote.

From Above:
“If an item in the ad says 10x points it still won’t amount to much. Lets say you purchase a $3 item. If you multiply this by ten you get 300 points.”

Correction:
If you purchase a $3 item, multiply by 10, you get 30 points (not 300).

To get 300 points you’d have to make a $30 purchase!
=======================================================
Also, they go with whole dollar amounts on point awards, and at least in 2010, they were rounding down.

For example: $4.99 is 40 points (not 49 or 50).

Sounds like Wal-Mart will get all my business with their price matching if my local Walgreen’s ever goes to that … would hate to have to say ‘good-bye’ to all my local Walgreens cashiers. I wonder if there is a CVS or Rite-Aid near these Walgreen’s test-stores and if so then I’m sure they are getting an influx of Walgreen’s former customers.

I’m not familiar with the points card test market thing- but perhaps it would actually enable all of us to get to buy the sale items instead of ONE person wiping the shelves clean every single week. Where I live, that is what typically always happens. It is pretty exciting when I actually am able to find the items that are free/cheap each week!

Reply

Mel September 3, 2011 at 5:19 pm

@ Mynde, I posted some info upthread with the details of the Walgreens Points Card program. I’m sure if it is implemented you will no longer have shelves wiped clean. However, I also don’t think there will be many free/cheap deals anymore. It may have been the shelf cleaners who are partially to blame for ruining the RR program for all of us.

Reply

Mary September 5, 2011 at 10:25 am

I make it a point to avoid clearing any shelves (unless offer requires you buy $200 worth of X item and get $1 RR, j/k) … but on deals such as last weeks Estroven, Walgreen’s was giving it away by choice. However, thanks to us couponers who used $3/1 Estroven, then at least Walgreen’s will receive some money back since manufacturer coupons were used. Couponers made money and Walgreen’s will receive money … Smart business welcomes smart shoppers … this Walgreen’s points thing just isn’t too smart.

Reply

Mary September 5, 2011 at 10:41 am

sorry, meant to post that as a comment on the Walgreen’s Points Program, not a comment on clearing shelves, which, I agree clearing shelves is not cool.

Reply

Sean September 6, 2011 at 10:42 am

..and the reason the shelves won’t be clean is because it isn’t free or cheap.

Reply

Cathy September 4, 2011 at 5:44 pm

I use a card for CVS and Rite Aid and still get ECBs and +UPs and have sales. If Walgreens goes to some kind of goofy points I won’t waste my time there. I already don’t get half of the sale items, because my store never has any, and it isn’t because of ‘shelf clearers’ either. For the whole month of August that the Keri lotion was on sale, the local Walgreens never got 1 in. I talked to the lady who stocks that area and she said she ordered them, but never got any.

I find that is true many times when an item would be free, they have 1 maybe, and it is never replaced until long after the rain checks are expired.

The Suave Professionals are included in the sale. However the MQ is for Styling product from 7oz to 11oz. There is a Prof hair spray that was under this, that would not work for the Q, But everything rang up as $3 each and worked like a charm!

$3–Suave Prof 32oz Shampoo
$3–Suave Prof Hairspray

B1G1 Suave prof styling product free

-$3 MQ
=$3.41 (w/tax)

REceive $2RR

So like 50 cents each :))))

i love walgreens not to mention they are right around the corner but if they go to the points I will stop shopping there. we also have a cvs and rite aid close. I will shop target or walmart(as much as I dislike walmart). If walgreens doesnt want my business that is fine

Dawn September 7, 2011 at 9:45 am

Is anyone else having a problem with the Suave deal?? I went to buy the dry shampoo which was CLEARLY labeled by a register reward sign, and a conditioner. I used the B1G1 coupon and NO REGISTER REWARDS. First the cashier told me it was because I used a coupon and technically got it for free and didn’t purchase “2”. Then she told me it was because the dry shampoo wasn’t part of the promotion. I showed her the RR sign and she then told me she can’t make the machine print something thats not legal???? I promptly told her to take the items off my order and to remove the sign so others wouldn’t be upset.

I haven’t been in Walgreens yet this week. I hope to get there to get the slip on diapers before they sell out. They are on sale for $8.99 and I still have a few $3 off huggies coupons left plus that $2 infant care book coupon. So that should be $3.99 a pack right. Headed there now. Will let you know.
