Thank you for ALL the hard work you put into this site. I am able to follow your scenarios with ease. I wish someone would have a site for CVS and Rite Aid like you do for Walgreens. Again, thank you for all you do to help us out.

Does anyone ever have an issue doing all 4 transactions in one trip? My walgreens gets cleared really quickly and id like to get it all done first thing Sunday morning…

Reply

Rebecca May 22, 2011 at 12:14 am

I have more issues with my 1 and 2 year old being patient enough while i’m doing multiple transactions. Because they go shopping with me i usually only do 2 at a time. However my store doesn’t have issues with me doing multiples as long as I am curteous to other customers. I will only do one at a time and go to the back of the line if others come up behind me. Or i go to cosmetics and check out because there isn’t usually anyone checking out there.

I do multi trans every Sunday morning. My store has no issue with it. However, I do all my trans at the Cos counter.

I can not wait for your surprise!

Christie,

I LOVE your website. It has been very helpful on how to maximize my savings. I had never shopped at Walgreen’s before I started couponing, and I have been going every week since.
However, recently the Walgreen’s in my town has been starting a lot of restrictions on how many items we can buy (which I totally understood and strictly obided by). Then this morning (Sunday @ 1am) I went in to buy everything just the way you had it in your Shopping senerio, and I was told that we are only allowed to do 1 transaction per customer period. My husband and I started going really early so that we would not be holding up lines even though we never do more than 4 transactions. There was no one else in line and I was still told that it did not matter. As in your senerio, nothing were the same items. Meaning I was not buying more than the allowed limit. They even said that if I came back a little later they would not let me buy anything. I have been nothing but nice and obedient to all the rules this far, but not being able to roll my RR’s is going to be a huge downfall. This is the first I have heard about this policy and I am sure there are going to be alot of upset people come normal hours. Is there anything that can be done? I am more than happy to go to the end of the line if there is one, but apparently that is not even an option. When I talked to the manager, he said it was a corporate decision.
Any advice would be helpful! 🙂
Thanks so much!

Reply

Christie May 22, 2011 at 11:03 am

Lindsay – There is NO way that is a corporate decision. I often have to do more than (1) transaction and it’ll have to do NOTHING with coupons. It’ll be because maybe one is personal and one is for work and I need two different receipts. Or I’m buying something for me and something for a neighbor or family member as a favor and need a separate receipt for them. That happens all the time, they aren’t going to ban people from shopping at the store that have to purchase items for themselves and for their companies. I would call corporate and complain.

Do you have any prescriptions there? I would write a nice letter too to the CEO of the company letting them know how you have been treated and that you would be happy to pull all your prescriptions to another pharmacy. Which by the way, the selling of “stuff” in the front of the store is really meaningless, it’s the pharmacy where there money is really made.

Finally, You can come up with a plan to play within their rules, it’ll just require a larger investment in your first Transaction. So buy everything that is FREE with Register Rewards at one time (they can’t stop you from doing that) then just plan your scenarios so you are doing one big transaction a week.

Reply

Lindsay May 22, 2011 at 12:55 pm

Thanks for responding Christie. I thought about the same thing with buying things for work or a loved one. I think I am going to contact the company. This is the first week it has been an issue. I guess I would just like some kind of reason for this policy since I am not buying the same things over and over, and I was definitely not holding up any line. I will be interested to hear how many other people in my area will be upset by this new policy.
Thanks for the advice!

katie May 22, 2011 at 3:03 pm

I also have to do two transactions when I use my HSA debit card.

Reply

Kasey May 22, 2011 at 11:01 am

My store has a big issue with doing more than one transaction in a day. It’s the Duncan, OK store. They said that corp. said that you can only do 1 transaction a person! lol!

Scrooge May 22, 2011 at 12:17 pm

That DANG show is ruining my Walgreens! I use to have no problem buying my items every week, but now the shelf cleaners have taken over and the store waits till late Saturday night to restock the sale items! I had a long chat with a woman this morning about her buying at least 30 toothbrushes. She started out as “It is a donation” but the longer she talked it wound up “But I am making money” Please! If I hear the word “STOCKPILE” one more time I am going to snap!

Reply

Summer May 22, 2011 at 2:14 pm

I agree. I really dislike the tlc show extreme couponing also. My walgreens are cleared on Sunday, and I have 5 local. I am a single mom just trying to survive and now I am struggling cause people think they have to buy the entire stock. I have not scored anything since the show aired. All my walgreens, targets, vons are cleared out the first day of the ad. These people are going beyond stockpiling and just being flat out greedy.

Walgreens had a coupon for a 6 pack of Charmin Basic. Match it with the $1.00 coupon from the P&G Save and it’s $1.99.

At my store we have no problems with multiple transactions. We do ask that you check out in the photo Lab or Cosmetics so our main register is not held up.

When in doubt ask for assistance. We are seeing a lot of new couponers that don’t fully understand register rewards. If you are confused ask a manager or Knowledgeable associate for help.

We appreciate your business.

WOW! I went to the walgreens in Clarksville, TN today (the one open 24 hours) and I have never had a cashier so rude or confused. I only did one transaction with about 15 items and 13 coupons. She refused all my internet coupons saying they were fake (they were .30 cents off for the Haribo gummies)and when my carefree coupon beeped since you have to enter the price (the item was free up to .99) she refused that as well and told me I didn’t purchase the item. I laughed and pulled it right out of the bag. She was a complete idiot, my blood pressure went up and I am now officially done with WAGS after couponing there for 3 years. It just isn’t worth it with good customer service at our local Rite Aid

Marcy May 22, 2011 at 2:39 pm

@ Lindsay…I did have a problem with the first Wags I went to today…they said I was only allowed one transaction on the “first” day…which I assume means on Sundays…so I left and did the other 5 at another store with no problems at all…just aggrivating when then seem to change policys every week.

I went to 4 different stores and did one transaction at each. The only issue that I had was for the Advil/Thermacare $5 RR. Mine didn’t print. The manager said it was because I bought a bonus pack of the Thermacare and the register didn’t recognize it as part of the RR’s deal. So she fixed it and made it print.

My stores were pretty well stocked on everything except Reach toothbrushes.

Thanks Christie!

Christie May 22, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Me too with the bonus pack! It worked with the non-bonus pack just fine.

Reply

craqed May 22, 2011 at 3:11 pm

The Advil and Thermacare deal was a bit of a pain this morning. The register beeped on the Q (overrode), then didn’t print the RR.

Turned out the Thermacare I picked up was a “bonus” pack (2 S-M Back/Thigh +1). Manager did the transaction with a regular pack and it printed.

YMMV

Great great great shopping trip today. I got $308 in product and i only spent $42 OOP.

For those having issues with their stores I would send an email to corp. Then when they respond you have it in writing. I have no issues at my store but I know the mgrs.

This was my first real trip using coupons, and I don’t think I did too bad. Didn’t have any RR to start with, and I had to alter a few things, because they were out of a couple of items.
Here’s what I got:

Listerine
2 Axe Spray
1 Axe Deodorant
2 Colgate Toothpaste
Scunci Elastics (Bonus pack)
Yardley Soap
Hawaiian Punch Drink Mix
Wylers Drink Mix
Advil
Thermocare
2 Caress Bodywash
2 Suave Lotions (25% bonus)
2 Purex Detergent
Cottonelle Wipes
Qtips
2 Schick Hydro Razors
2 Schick Hydro Shave Gel
Bayer Aspirin (.19 after coupons)
3 Hunts Sauces
2 4pk Energizer Batteries
4 Wonka Bars
Gallon Water
Finesse Shampoo (Free after Rebate)

Paid $45.79 OOP, Saved $107.13

I saved about 70% if I figured that right.

Didn’t end up with any RR after all transactions, because there were just too many things I needed now. We are getting ready to go spend the summer with my husband, who works out of state, so we need items to take with us and snacks, water for our dog, etc for trip. My store was out of Complete Solution and OM Hot Dogs, so I’ll have to try again later.
I did 5 transactions and the cashier was nothing but patient and kind. I did check out at cosm. counter, but had no problems at all.

Reply

Joanne May 23, 2011 at 4:33 pm

Hi Everyone, Newbie here. I only did one transaction today, but I’m wondering if my cashier made an error because she did not give me the $5RR for the Advil/Thermacare. When I questioned her, she said that because I used a $5 coupon I would not get the $5 RR. This was my transaction:
1 Charmin 6 count @$3.99
1 Advil @$4.29
1 Scunci @$2.00
1 Thermacare @$5.99
less:
Charmin Wag Coupon -$1.00
Advil/Thermacare Coupon -$5.00
Charmin Mfg coupon -$1.00
$5 RR -$5.00
Total oop $4.27, received $2RR from scunci (didn’t get my $5 from advil/thermacare.

Now that I look at my coupon, it looks like she may have entered my $5RR as a manufacturer’s coupon. I have two $5 deductions that say MFGC. One $5 deduction should be RR, but I don’t know how they are supposed to ring up. Should it be displayed differently on my receipt and is this the reason why my $5RR for advil/thermacare didn’t print?

Thanks for any insight.

Just looked in the Walgreen’s circular. I think I bought the wrong Advil. I paid $4.29 for 40 ct., & the circular said $4.99. Maybe that’s the problem.

Reply

Dionna M Gregory May 23, 2011 at 6:01 pm

@Joanne–Yes, I think that is probably what the issue was. I know I paid $4.99 for the Advil here. And yes, the RRs will look like a MQ on your receipt.

Help! I can’t get any of the coupons from the thermacare website to print! It either acts like it will print and doesn’t on one computer and on another computer it tells me that the page I am trying to access is not there….anyone else have this problem? Is the coupon not available anymore? And if so, then why does it let me put in all my information only to get nada? Ugh…want those coupons!

Hi Christie Im a big fan of your website. Ive only been couponing since late march but walgreens has always been my favorite store ever since I learned how to get 2 jumbo packs of pampers diapers and a pack of wipes for 4 dollars I never looked back(I have 2 young ones still in diapers). But lately the assistant manager has been coming up with some new rules everyt time. Last time I was trying to get some colgate toothpaste that was b1g1 freee and the cashier would not let me use a 1off coupon on the free toothpaste she said the assistant mngr and the LP manager told them not to because it was stealing…I felt very upset because they called me a thief when it clearly states in their policy that you can use a coupon against every item on a b1g1 free sale. Has their policy changed?? I know most of the savings are from being able to use a coupon on the free item If Im not able to do that then I guess Ill just try walmart :/.

Christie May 24, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Please, please, please call corporate. NO one should be called a thief because they are trying to use coupons legitimately!

I love this website. I’ve only been couponing since March and no, that stupid TLC show didn’t inspire me, but I find Walgreens is the best drugstore to shop at. It’s also the hardest.

I agree with what most of you are saying about stock flying off the shelf fast. If it’s a moneymaker then you better go the second you get all your Sunday papers. That’s what I’m learning.

Reply

Rebecca May 25, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Maybe all of you know this but I just wanted to let you know my experience shopping this past week. There are new coupon policies that changed in our area and I don’t know who will be affected.

While ringing up the lady@ cosmetics called the store manager to ask about my couponing. He asked if she had read the policy update posted that morning then went through the policy w/her while I was standing right there(and told me to take notes).

Coupons will be deducted for every 1 item no matter if the items are used in a B1Get2Free scenario. So if you buy 3 items you are able to use 3 coupons you just have to spend the overage on other items. I would love for everyone to know this cause I had no idea that you could use a coupon on items that were for free anyways, exciting!! I’ll be going back to that store!!

Happy Wags Shopping!!!
