Walgreens Shopping Scenario 5/15!

by Christie Bisbee on May 14, 2011

Here’s my scenario for 5/15. In this scenario you’d spend $4.39 out of pocket and end with $3 in Register Rewards. You’d get $36.34 in merchandise and 11 items. So it’s like you are getting just about 97% off and paying $1.39 for everything! :-)

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THESE TRANSACTIONS
-) You can’t have more MQ than items!
-) You don’t have to do these in one day, just pick up where you left off.
-) Blue are MQ, Red are Store coupons and are not included in your coupon count.
-) If you didn’t print the Dove Men+Care AP/Deo coupon, your total will be $1 more. However, if you got the Dove Men+Care sample that was available recently, there was a $1/1 coupon that came with that, so check your binders.

Thank you so much. This really helps me, I am fairly new to couponing (October) I am still trying to get a handle on all of this. So when you break it down like this, it makes it easier for me to learn.

Jen May 14, 2011 at 11:32 pm

hope someone an help clarify, will transaction #2 really work? my add shows the gillette deo is B1G1 50%. that means you’ll need a $2.50 filler to use the $4RR, right?

Reply

Melissa May 14, 2011 at 11:41 pm

you’ll get all three deos free with the coupons

Reply

Christie May 15, 2011 at 12:53 am

Really they should just be taking off $4.99, $2.49 and $4.99. If your cashier takes off $4.99 x 3 times, then you would be short but that’s not what they should actually be doing. So if you think that might happen just wait to hand over the Register Reward to pay until they subtotal.

Reply

Susan May 15, 2011 at 12:58 pm

The deodorant was $5.49 at my store. The cashier took off $4.99, $4.99 and $2.75 which is the way I thought it should be. I was able to use the $2/1 Body Wash Q’s also. It was a great deal!

Reply

Feli May 15, 2011 at 2:07 pm

Susan my deoderant was 5.49 too! How much did you pay OOP?

Reply

Susan May 15, 2011 at 3:19 pm

3 Gillette Body Wash ~ $10
3 Gillette Deodorants ~ $5.49, $5.49 & $2.74

Got off $6 for the Body Wash & $4.99, $4.99 & $2.75 for the deodorant.

So OOP was $4.99 and got a $3 RR.

A Walgreens coupon doesn’t count towards the 1:1 item/coupon ratio? Only MQs count?

Reply

Sabrina May 15, 2011 at 2:49 am

I saw on another blog that Scotch magic tape was going to be free again-it was shown in a picture with envelopes and it was 1.99 bogo or something like that, then use the Scotch printable to get for free.

Okay, I see it in your super deals, just not in the scenario.

my wags trip from just now…
3 gillette body wash 3/$10

I also got a B1G1 free Gillette Deodorant coupon today. Could I use that to essentially get 6 sticks of free deodorant?

I didnt get smartsource insert today. I live in FL… i wonder if it’s our area only.

April – I’m in FL and I got mine in both papers (they are two different newspapers not just 2 copies of the same paper). If you get a subscription delivered at home call for sure!

I’m in East Central Florida and both the Orlando Sentinel and the Florida Today had BOTH inserts (RP & SS) newstand editions.

YMMV with the Gillette BOGO Q’s and the $2 off Gillette Body Wash Q’s … the manager at my Wags in MI said that the BOGO attaches to both so you wouldn’t be able to use the $2 off as well.

And the Dove Deodorant RR did not print but they gave me a $3 gift card instead.

Reply

Jackie May 15, 2011 at 12:10 pm

My Dove Deodorant RR didn’t print either. The manager told me it’s because I used a P&G RR on that transaction and since Dove is “housed” by P&G, it won’t print a new RR. Seems like WAGS is really making some big changes now that so many more people are couponing. The manager even said that each week she gets new updates from corporate about what is allowed and what is not. I hope all of our good deals don’t start disappearing or that they just give the good RR on P&G housed products so that we can’t roll anymore… 🙁

Reply

Christie May 15, 2011 at 1:33 pm

Dove and P&G have nothing to do with one another…! Dove is Unilever! He might as well said Dove was made by McDonald’s!

Reply

Samantha May 15, 2011 at 2:53 pm

lol 😀

The cashier tried telling me that Dove was a P&G product too.. I did just the dove deodorant (& a filler) in my first transaction to dump the P&G RR I had from a couple of weeks ago so there weren’t any issues with the Gillette RR!

Reply

Michele May 15, 2011 at 5:07 pm

OMG!!! I had the same thing happen to me this morning. You wouldn’t believe the line of garbage the cashier & the manager were giving me as to why I didn’t the RR for the Dove. I explained in every way humanly possible, and even showing her that I just bought a Finish with a RR and got a RR (as that was one of the excuses they gave me…that I won’t get a RR if I used a RR). My husband told them that there has to be a glitch in THEIR system. The manager tried to purchase one without a RR (to show me it would print that way) and guess what….it didn’t print for her!! So she went to the back with some explanation that she’ll have to read what the manual says to do when they RR won’t print. She came back with that same silly form for me to fill out and send in. I told her I will settle for a Walgreens gift card for my purchase & RR’s that I just used and simply return the product. Needless to say, this story goes on even longer (the computer system rebooted during our discussion and printed only 1 RR). Grrrrr…..Walgreens needs to get it together & teach their employees a little more in depth about the couponing, RR’s, and such. I’m thankful for the great deals but sometimes the hassle is incredible!
At the end, the manager did apologize for the mess & time wasted, saying it was their fault.

Reply

Sarah May 15, 2011 at 4:21 pm

lol….Next time this happens, I would show them the ACTUAL product, turn it over and point to the “Manufactured by: Unilever”!!!

BTW: I used my Gillette $3RR on the Dove deodorant and got the $3RR. HTH!

Reply

Diana May 15, 2011 at 6:03 pm

My RR didn’t print for my Dove either but the manager was able to give me the $3 back in cash. He said that he had that to happen earlier this morning as well. He said it happened often first thing on Sunday when the rewards start. I did not use any RR for the product so I don’t think it had anything to do with your coupon. It just doesn’t sound like your manager knew his products. I would take your receipt & the Dove back to the store & ask them to correct.

Reply

Barbara May 15, 2011 at 4:27 pm

It is a system problem today. I got the form to mail in.

Reply

stacia May 15, 2011 at 12:33 pm

my receipt looks like this! (I could only use 2 $2 off bodywash because my total was too low to take of the other $2 coupons because the bodywash is also ringing up buy 1 get 1 50% off)

I had planned on getting 4 in each transaction anyway, that way the deodorant would be taken off again. 🙂

gillette bw 3.34
gillette bw 3.33
gillette bw 3.33
gillette bw 3.34
gillette cool wave do 4.99
gillette cool wave do 4.99
gillette cool wave do 4.99
gillette cool wave do 4.99
minus—-
4.99 (free do with bw)
4.99 (free do with bw)
4.99 (free do with bw)
4.99 (free do with bw)
2.00 (off bw)
2.00 (off bw)
then the register took off
1.67 for 1/2 price bw
1.67 for 1/2 price bw
5.00 for 1/2 price dod
total = 1.00 plus 1.62 for tax = $2.62 total and I got a 3RR.
It was a total surprise that the bodywash was gonna be b1g1 50% off too!!!!!!

Reply

Mary May 15, 2011 at 1:05 pm

I did this deal today too, but my body wash wasn’t bogo 50% off, just the deodorant was. I ended up paying $3.99 OOP and got back $3 RR. $.99 for 6 items is fine with me though 🙂

Reply

Crystal May 15, 2011 at 6:59 pm

My BW also rang up BOGO 50% off. I still have (2) $2 off qs. It was a nice surprise but it threw everything off.

Reply

Kimberly Elms May 15, 2011 at 1:03 pm

I didn’t realize that I would get a RR for the Gillette items so they ended up being free for me plus a money maker. WOOT!!!

Reply

Rebecca May 15, 2011 at 2:15 pm

I just bought two old spice body wash, one gillette body wash, and one gillete deodorant. I had bogo for the old spice wash and then 2/1 gillette and the free deodorant coupon, but the cashier only took off 2.50 for the deodorant (even though the coupon is suppose to be for get a free deodorant for buying the gillete wash) instead of 4.99… she said it’s because the deodorants are buy one get the second one 50% off so thats why she takes off 2.50 instead of 5…. this sounds crazy to me since that means im paying 2.50 for it instead of getting it free like the coupon says… is she right?

Reply

Christie May 15, 2011 at 2:17 pm

If you only bought 1 Gillette deodorant it should be $4.99, if you had bought 2 then the 2nd one should have been $2.49.

Reply

Rebecca May 15, 2011 at 5:26 pm

I just bought one.. i just ended up returning it since i dont want to have to pay for deodorant when i could just get them free usually.

Christie..
Just wanted to share.. I was told that as of ..now.. Walgreens Corporate policy is they will limit coupon usage to 4 coupons per person per day..not per transaction .. per person per day. this is in Central Florida,,, Ocoee Walgreens.. has anyone else run into this???

Reply

Christie May 15, 2011 at 4:04 pm

What – That’s ridiculous! 4 of the same or just 4?

Reply

carol May 15, 2011 at 11:32 pm

The managers exact words “Under the new Walgreens Corporate Policy that just went into effect a customer may only use use a total of 4 coupons per person per day…” she said this would be going into effect at all Walgreens…..

Reply

lisa May 15, 2011 at 6:46 pm

Umm. If this is corporate policy, where is the paper? Please don’t at face value what is being told you without checking on it. They say some really strange things.

Reply

Jo May 16, 2011 at 12:57 am

Lurk the corporate email stating “limit 4 of the same coupons use per customer per transaction OR day”
It will be up to the store how would they want to translate the coupons use, some stores only limit 4 of the same coupons use per transaction (guess this is because of the new P&G coupons limitation of 4 same coupons per shopping trip) and others could use this new corporate regulation to limit only 4 coupons use per customer and that is the sign to walk out from the store.

Reply

Heather May 16, 2011 at 6:21 pm

I was in Walgreen’s today in Iowa and asked about the new policy and they had not heard of anything like that happening.

Reply

Nickolas May 17, 2011 at 10:16 am

Whercan we find this new policy? Does someone have a link to it?

Was able to get through with 6 body washes, 6 deodorants, and our Walgreens is still offering the $3 RR on the 12pk of Cottonelle again this week. Since they are now out of all Gillette body washes, we can now go to WalMart and do the body wash/deodorant deal for only $3.00 out of pocket. Still not too bad since we only have one Walgreens and will be wiped out for the rest of the week.

Wags in Travelers Rest,S.C. said there is a problem with Dove deo. RR and with Soft Soap RR printing. It is a catalina company problem. They called several times with no response back yet. Soft Soap did start to print 30 minutes ago (5:00 pm). You can buy and call a number tell them (cat. co.)that the RR did not print and you will get it in the mail in 2 to 6 weeks. You will need receipt with a transaction number on it to give them. Hope this helps.

Bobbi Jean May 15, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Sigh, sounds like a bad day overall for everyone. At my wags, my store was out of nearly everything. Only 4 fusion razors left, no tylenol precise, no finish, no gillete BW (not even a spot on the shelf for it). I did manage to use up my RR on the Activ-on that is free w. MIR otherwise they were going to expire today! Oh well…another one bites the dust.

Jennifer May 15, 2011 at 6:11 pm

HORRIBLE experience today! My Dove deodorant RR didn’t print (like many of you all). First, the manbager tried telling me I got the wrong one. I don’t think so! Finally, she just gave me $3 refund. Then, they told me I could only get 1 free Gillette deodorant instead of 3 (I also bought the 3 Gillette body washed). The manager’s logic made no sense so I just conceded on that. It was awful. I am going to start going to alternate Walgreens. We have about 3 in The Villages, FL, so I won’t be returning to the one. CVS, on the other hand, was a pleasure to shop at today! Good deals, plenty of inventory, and no coupon hassles. You’d think Walgreens wouldn’t want to alienate their shoppers!

Reply

Guest May 15, 2011 at 8:07 pm

haha! they have plenty of inventory because nobody shops at CrapVS.

Reply

Betty May 19, 2011 at 6:41 am

Same here. I have about 6 Walgreens in my area (Miami) and about the same CVS. Only one of the Walgreens never gives me any trouble, but I always have a pleaseant experience at any of the CVS. Maybe we should do something about this, writing emails or something.

thank you so much christie for doing these scenarios! they really help! i think walgreens can be hard to prepare for and this helps organize me! i used newspapers and skinny cow bars as fillers instead of jello (don’t like jello).
i went early this morning and didn’t have any issues with RR printing…must have been a random issue…i bought the 2 toothpastes, 2 old spice bodywashes, gillette body wash & deod, and the dove men’s deod. i have the $3 dove RR that i am going to go back and see what else i can find.
my gillette body wash or deod (not sure which one) did ring up 50% off plus she took off $4.99 for the free deog coupon so i did have to add two fillers. i just bought two of the skinny cow bars (wags coupon for them in the booklet) – my walgreens is donating candy to the troops so i just donate my fillers! had to spend a little more but figured it was a donation…only spent 1.08 on the body wash/deod transaction and most of that was tax!

Where did you find the 1/1 coupon on the colgate pro clinical. My 5/15 SS only had a .75c coupon. I never seem to get the same coupons posted. Mine are always less. And according to sites I have seen there were supposed to be 2 SS inserts and I only see one. I don’t have delivery I go to the marketet to get my papers. Would this be different if I got them delivered?

Reply

Christie May 17, 2011 at 1:31 am

Some areas got $1 some got $.75. It varies. This week there was (1) SS and (1) RP. What state are you in? In some states including FL many of the papers are no longer printing enough inserts for all the papers off the stands to have them. So it’s hit or miss. But the paper delivered to your house should have everything.

Reply

Nickolas May 17, 2011 at 10:09 am

I guess I will have to start getting them delivered to get everything. I found a website that shows what inserts should be in the papers each week and it said that there was to be (2) SS and (1) RP. I have found out that my area sends the RP out on Wednesday the week early. Thanks for the help and you did a great job on the show the other night. You have helped me saved so much as a coupon novice of 1 month. Now I have to try to apply this to other stores for regular groceries not just toothpaste and body wash but cereal and other items my family needs. Louisiana does not seem to have all the great deals as other places in the country I see on tv and online. And Winn Dixie here no longer doubles coupons. But again thanks for what you do because it helps us all in these tough economic times.

Thanks for the info – very informative to someone new to couponing. My friend was able to complete the entire scenario in Connecticut however the two walgreens i went to in Queens new york Did NOT have colgate clinical toothpaste on sale for the 2 for $6.
The entire circular was different. I did find a walgreens in Long Island that did offer the toothpaste on sale with register rewards but then they only had one gillette body wash left on the shelf.

Any suggestions on where to shop in NYC?

But I did get the toothpaste for .12 cents each in CT and .26 cent each in NY (the difference is the tax) – So I’m happy. Thanks.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who had a problem with the Dove RR. Mine didn’t print either and was told that it didn’t print because I used a RR for my purchase. Still fairly new at this, so I’ll know better for the next time! Don’t understand why employees aren’t better informed though. Most of the time I think they just make up an answer and hope you’ll go away.
