*HOT* Walgreens $8 Money Maker on Contour!

by Christie Bisbee on January 9, 2013

There’s a HOT $8 Money Maker going on at Walgreens on the Contour Next EZ Meter! These are priced at $9.99 this week with Balance Rewards Card, plus if you find the Diabetes Care Booklet in your store it has a $10 off Bayer Contour Next EZ meter coupon! That makes the meter free after the coupon. In addition, you’ll get a 3,000 in points ($3) with your purchase AND a $5 Register Reward, making it an $8 Money Maker!

My insert had an advertisement for the $5 Register Reward and the Walgreens ad this week advertises the 3,000 points with purchase. Both deals overlapped for me tonight for a SWEET Money Maker! 🙂

The ad mentions a coupon for these in most Sunday papers but I didn’t get one in any of my papers. Remember, the Diabetes Care Book coupon will have to be adjusted by $0.01 because the coupon exceeds the price of the item by $0.01. So here’s how to get a super deal…

Walgreens Deals (Thru 1/12)
Buy (1) Contour Next EZ Meter $9.99
(1) $10/1 Contour Next EZ (exp 10/15/13) Walgreens Diabetes Care book (adjusted to $9.99)
Total = $0, Get Back $5 Register Reward & 3,000 Balance Rewards Points ($3)
= $8 MONEY MAKER!

(Thanks Kim! :))

I did not get the $5 RR when I purchased mine yesterday. Did this just start today?

Reply

Christie January 9, 2013 at 10:02 pm

Yes, it just started printing today! 🙂 Call Catalina however because it was advertised as Starting 1/6 so they should send you the $5.

Leslie January 9, 2013 at 10:16 pm

Where may I find the numbe for Catalina? I also bought the meter a couple of days ago and did not get the $5RR.

Also, where does it state that there is a $5RR printing for this? I want to be able to tell my cashier about it.

Mine was advertised in my coupon insert, think it was my SmartSource. However I get two papers and one had the ad for it and one did not.

I donate items that I don’t need. Where I live, many people are in need and a little goes a long way. It’s not about MM; it’s more about the gift of life I am giving to someone who will now have a meter to stay healthy and alive. Pay it forward…

Jen Harris January 9, 2013 at 11:49 pm

Why comment on this -if you don’t want to do it then DON’T! Otherwise, get it and donate to the juvenile diabetes foundation. They will take it with pleasure! Why do negative people always say things so nasty? Keep your opinion to your SELF!

Reply

SANDRA January 10, 2013 at 12:35 am

Many people donate these items, and the RR lets you get merchandise that you do need.

Reply

Christie January 10, 2013 at 1:00 am

I have a family member with diabetes so I will send it to her. I don’t need it for myself but happy to purchase it for someone else.

Back when the Tornadoes hit Alabama I sent meters to my friends church, they needed them because so many had lost everything.

Maybe it’s just me but I always find someone that needs the stuff I buy. I have to buy a lot of stuff I don’t need to test deals to share with everyone. (I may not need it but I know many readers might.) I’ve never had a difficult time finding someone in need of the stuff in my closet. And for me it feels good to share. 🙂

Yes Christie I agree, but I’m sure you don’t buy more than one or two……..

Reply

Christie January 10, 2013 at 7:21 pm

Yep, that’s right – I bought one. 🙂

Reply

Jane January 10, 2013 at 1:17 pm

I agree, donate BUT what about all the diabetics out there who would like to go to Walgreens and take advantage of this deal (just once) but people who don’t really need them have taken more than their fair share (even to donate) and now the shelves are bare?? IMO if you want to donate buy ONE and donate it and leave some for others 🙂

Reply

Jen Harris January 12, 2013 at 4:12 pm

Well Jane, then if they want the deal they will pick it up by the beginning of the week. Additionally, they have the same opportunity to shop as we who use coupons do. Each store generally only carries 1-3 of these out on the shelf. The rest stay in the pharmacy. Additionally, when i shop for these I go on Saturday- the end of the week for the deal. Bayer does this deal all the time- the strips are $51 and $89 a 30 day box! I am always curious why people are so invested in how others shop and how they save. If i ant to buy 100 of these, then I will do it. I also donated to the Red Cross, and they were THRILLED with it. Sorry to sound so annoyed, but honestly, invest your time in someone else’s shopping- leave mine alone!

That ‘s true Jane I am diabetic and I have been trying to get a meter everytime an offer comes and so far no luck 🙁

Reply

If that is true lily, you can get a rain check. All you have to ask is for the same price, and you will get it free. If the true point in getting a monitor is to get a free one for your diabetes, then go today. This deal comes along frequently!

I bought one on Sunday and didn’t get a register reward but that’s OK. I got the points. Too bad my Walgreen’s acts like your stealing when you get items for free with a coupon. If I had received a RR, they probably would have called the Manager to review the transaction.

Reply

Julie January 10, 2013 at 6:12 pm

Sorry you have that kind of experience at your Walgreens LeeAnn. I work at a Walgreens and I LOVE when our customers get great deals like this!!! Our store really is customer service/satisfaction comes 1st….I would complain to manager if a cashier is rude to you.

Reply

Kim January 10, 2013 at 8:44 am

I bought 5 meters on the 6th and didn’t get the register rewards but when I bought 1 yesterday I got it. I also didn’t see anything in the paper this week about the register rewards and I didn’t find a coupon for the meter in the paper like the Walgreens ad said. Today I am going back to walgreens to see if I can get the RR I didn’t get when I bought the meters on the 6th 🙂

Diana January 10, 2013 at 12:31 pm

lucky for you ,there isn’t a store in 20 mile that has one.Thank to people who clearing the selfs. You got 6 already , many more you need, donation or not?

Reply

Jane January 10, 2013 at 1:23 pm

I have to agree….even when you donate all you buy it’s still a bit much when there are people out there who actually need and can use them and can’t get them because one person took them all 🙁 You can still donate …just don’t take more than your fair share doing it 🙂

Reply

mel January 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm

true.. but you don’t know if she’s buying them for family or friends. Maybe she ordered ahead. don’t judge/berate when you don’t even know the story.

Reply

Jen Harris January 12, 2013 at 4:26 pm

Fellow couponers are extremely judgemental. Jane, it’s not really your business. Maybe she is using htem for herself, family, or maybe she is donating them all. It’s up to her.

I didn’t clear the shelf got one for my mom and one for my papaw, but try asking a manager to order some and get a raincheck atleast it will be free. My personal opnion is the early bird gets the worm, and when you can get it free with asking for a raincheck there is no need to complain about something that will never change.

BJ January 10, 2013 at 11:29 am

I did not get the $5 register reward.

Reply

Susan January 10, 2013 at 11:50 am

I don’t mind people donating these, but do be considerate. Despite so many sounding so altruistic, let’s face it: it’s a money maker. I printed a coupon to get one (which I planned to donate) this week at CVS. Despite 3 visits to 2 different stores, all of the coupon models have been out all week. Frustrating for me, but even more so I would assume for people who actually need the meters and hoped to get one free/cheap.

Reply

Christie January 10, 2013 at 12:23 pm

Also ask the pharmacist. I know they often keep some behind them in pharmacy.

Reply

Jane January 10, 2013 at 1:29 pm

Unfortunately, people get greedy and some use the excuse of “donating” to make themselves feel better and to not look bad. Some feel like as long as they are donating what they get it’s ok to be a piggy and take all they can. You don’t have to be a shelf clearer to be a good person by donating so why do it???

Reply

Jeff January 10, 2013 at 1:28 pm

Why don’t you buy it on raincheck. Rainchecks can be done at CVS including ECB deals. Or you can pay now (use coupons, get the ECB) and receive a raincheck that’s marked “paid” that allows you to pick one up later for $0.

Reply

Jane January 10, 2013 at 1:35 pm

Rainchecks only work at Walgreens for RR IF the product comes in before the sale is gone. Once the sale is over you can get the sale price with a raincheck but not any RR 🙁

Reply

Shannon G January 11, 2013 at 6:31 am

It would still be free with the raincheck

Reply

mary ellen January 10, 2013 at 4:33 pm

they will give a raincheck at cvs i know for sure so what is the problem???

Reply

sharell January 10, 2013 at 1:56 pm

Oh I forgot……I bought some of the Dial Nutri Skin lotion that was on clearance for $3.19 last week, but today my store had it for $1.99 each! So with the $1.50 coupon, I only paid $0.49 each for them! Was so excited!

Reply

kleanne January 11, 2013 at 11:12 am

Where oh where did you get this coupon? I couldn’t find it. =/ I LOVE this lotion!

Reply

Ashley January 10, 2013 at 2:02 pm

So, I just bought one and used the coupon. I received the points but not the RR. Any ideas why? They adjusted the price of the item to $10 instead of adjusting the coupon down. Would that affect receiving a RR?

Reply

Jen Harris January 12, 2013 at 4:40 pm

No it has no effect Ashley. The system just didn’t print. Get in touch with Catalina and they will mail it to you- usually quite fast too!

Reply

Miranda January 10, 2013 at 2:31 pm

I agree with Jen. I think it’s great that people get things for free and donate but please be mindful of others and don’t clear the shelves.

I had that same experience at Costco, right before Christmas. The lady checking out in front of me bought one and i happen to ask her about it. The cashier wanted to buy one too. The Vtech Innotab2 was on sale/clearance from 69.99 to 39.99 and when i went to find one, ALL (about 20) were gone. Then i see a lady at the food court with a cart full of clearance toys. I told the cashier someone bought the rest. I was so mad I put it on FB. One of my FB friends found a lady selling on FB. The next day I happen to go back to Costco and the cashier said she tried to buy one from the lady but the lady said she was donating. LIAR!! I confronted her on FB and she blocked me…LOL!!!

Someone took all the books and there was only one meter left at 1 store out of the four I went to. I have diabetes and always look for these deals because insurance is so stingy on what they will help pay for. People may think it is a waste, but when you get these meters a lot of times they come with free strips or coupons or rebates for the strips, so I really wish that people would leave something behind and I know that it is couponers,(when all the coupons are gone and the shelves are barren, usually a couponer has been there 😉 ) I am not against people trying to make money and all and then they donate them but the reality is that it is hard to get the strips and they are very expensive.

Reply

Margarita January 10, 2013 at 5:01 pm

And it is hard to get a donated meter, I don’t think people realize this. You either have to come out of pockt, wait for a good sale or sign up online and wait for the company to send you a meter.

Reply

Jen Harris January 12, 2013 at 4:43 pm

Margarita,
First- these meters do NOT come with free anything- no strips, nothing. If you are pinching pennies, then getting a CONTOUR meter, which have $50 and $90 strips/30 strips is not the way to save money!!

Reply

Julie January 10, 2013 at 6:22 pm

I read all the comments regarding donating the items and I truly hope that everyone is donating them and not returning them at a later date without receipts so that you actually make cash off of Walgreens. I saw this happen way too often before the Balance Rewards card came out and there were lots of items every week with RRs…I had a feeling back then that Walgreens would stop doing RR or cut way down on them, which is what happened 🙁 It really doesn’t make sense to clear off a shelf of items you would not use yourself. Donating 1 or 2 is great but 6!!! Here’s to hoping that these are getting donated and not returned without receipt!!

Reply

Karen A January 12, 2013 at 4:49 pm

Julie, Walgreens did not cut down on RRs because of this. They cut down because employees clear shelves, and ring the sales up for themselves. It was costing them THOUSANDS. My uncle is in corporate at Walgreens, and said it was a huge issue- they were losing a lot of money. That’s why employees had to get the card first.

Personally, my coupon club girls gave me every one of their meters- I donated 30 of them to the Red Cross. They were completely THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL- because BAYER donates strips to them for crisis! It is a very win/win situation. People are not really mad here because people are donating- let’s be honest- they are upset because they didn’t get the deal!!!!

Frances January 11, 2013 at 5:03 am

Yeah like when the Depends silhouettes were a money-maker, I bought a couple even though I don’t have a bladder control problem. I got them in my storage because I have a feeling that in 30 years I may get a bladder control problem. Not going to do that again ie. buy polydent in case my teeth fall out & I get dentures in 30 years.
