Walgreens: Updates From the Field 8/26

by Christie Bisbee on August 26, 2012

I’m in the middle of some super nasty weather thanks to Hurricane Issac today, tornado warning and all! Luckily the Walgreens is only a few minutes away. Here’s hoping I don’t lose power today! 🙂 So here’s what I found at Walgreens…

HARIBO DEAL
Looks like there are various Haribo products priced at $0.79. You can use the $0.30 Haribo coupon to grab any of these for just $0.49 each.

Buy (2) Haribo Happy Cola, Peaches, Cherry or Gummy Bears
$0.30 Haribo Product Coupon
= $0.49 EACH

KRAFT DEAL
The Kraft salad dressing aren’t ringing up at the advertised price of 2/$4. This is a bonus buy, which simply means it’s not in the printed ad but in the on-line ad which has additional pages. If you want to see it you can check page 4 of the Walgreens Ad on-line.

If you go to purchase the Kraft Salad dressing, be sure to let them know that this is an advertised bonus buy and they should adjust the price for you. Hopefully they’ll fix this soon because well, it’s a pain in the butt.

HELP DEAL
Looks like the Help deal is priced at $3.99 with a $3 Register Reward in some areas and $3 with a $3 Register Reward in others. So you may want to check your local ad prior to making this purchase!

So what deals did you find today? How did your shop go? Let us know! 🙂

my shops went well.
I got 6 shells, 2 mayo, 2 dressings. and a candy bar
used coupons and 1 RR from last week and ended up spending 7.38, got back the10.00.
I did have to have them adjust the dressing but it wasn’t an issue.

Dressing is ringing up $3.29 here in Waco/Valley Mills Wags. Didn’t have a hard copy of the online ad…so they wouldn’t adjust price. I just bought more Mac & Cheese to get the deal.

Oh, but our $1.29 sale eggs are ringing up for only 69 cents! lol.

adijat August 26, 2012 at 4:22 pm

I guess it’s time to stock up on the eggs, thanks for the heads up.

I didn’t notice til I got home that the Kraft dressing didn’t ring up 2/$4, also i brought q-tips that were suppose to be 2/$5. Both of these items did not ring up right, when I went back to get the price right the manager at my store kept wanting to take off the coupons and refund me only the price minus the coupons. Even though the receipt clearly shows that I paid $7.58 for the dressing she would only give me $2.58 back when it should have been $3.58. It did not go well. I did get the right price for the q-tips only because she didn’t want to argue anymore. I gave up even though I shouldn’t have.

Dressings were messed up at my store too and they only had 3 of the Zesty Itailian, so that messed me up even more 🙂 I just showed them the right price on my phone and they fixed it.
The Stayfree weren’t ringing up 1.99 either. They were 3.99, so I had to get that fixed as well.
The HELP I cut myself wasn’t printing the RR, but the other one was. They are 3,99 at my store.

my store was wiped clean of shells and cheese, mayo and miracle whip by noon!! they dont get a truck until thursday and “aren’t sure what will be on it”. I will have to check another wags later this week when I have time.

Andrea August 26, 2012 at 5:11 pm

Christie, I am in Minnesota, and the kraft dressing is in our ad on page 2 right next to the almonds. It shows 2/$4. The mayo is on page 3 for 2/$6, but there is no mention of the shells and cheese sale/mac and cheese sale. I know the gals who work at my wags are couponers, so I am sure they wiped the shelves clean of these items which is why there were none left by noon today. Happens all the time.

Get a rain check if you can’t get any. The kraft deal goes till middle of Sept. I believe. Can you do an online pickup order?

JoAnn August 27, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Pittsburgh ad is the same. I just gave up on the Kraft deal. Got the purex and napkins I wanted and found flipflops for 75%off. Someone placed the wrong Stayfree product in the wrong spot, but the lead who rang me up spotted it right away, went to get the right one, saw it was empty and went to the back and brought a case out. The other cashier couldn’t say enough nice things about her, and I agree. I will be doing a survey full of positive feedback for her!

Stay safe, Christie!

I was happy I got the 6 shells and 4 mayo I wanted. I almost didn’t get the shells though. They had a ton of them, but there was another woman right behind me that cleared the shelf. Thank goodness I was there first or I would of ended up with none.

The pads also rang up 3.99 for me and didn’t realize it at first. I thought my total seemed off, but the line was building behind me. Once I got in the car, I looked my receipt over and figured it out and ran back inside to get it fixed. Then I decided to buy the crest toothpaste since I realized I almost left with a RR that was expiring today! After I got in the car (for the second time), I realized by .50 cent filler rang up as a $1. By then, I wasn’t about to go back in again. Oh well, I’m just happy I got the mayo and shells!~

The Stayfree pads rang up for $3.99 for me as well. The cashier insisted that I hadn’t gotten the right item, so I ended up having to put ’em back (and use my $2 Stayfree coupon at CVS instead). I also had to leave behind a box of 8 W Perfection tampons, as the cashier didn’t know how to ring up my raincheck and wasn’t willing to find out how to do it since there was a line of people behind me.

Does anyone know if the wags coupon in the booklet will work for other dressings or is it just the Italian kind?

Reply

Susan August 26, 2012 at 6:48 pm

The coupon in the book worked for the Ranch dressing as well as the Italian for me.

I did have problems with the price of the salad dressings and the Stayfree. I went back and was given a refund. It was a pain, but they were nice about it.

I would recommend getting a raincheck for the Velveeta shells. The Catalina deal is good until 9/15.

I didn’t realize the Zesty Italian rang up with wrong price until my cashier told me my total. When I found the error and showed him correct price on my phone, he wasn’t going to adjust the price. I asked him if he could just void the transaction and give me my coupons back. He was stunned, but wandered off to check with a manager to see what he should do. I waited nearly 10 minutes, but he did come back and re-ring my transaction with the proper prices. Then, he voided it all and rang it AGAIN. He thought he did something wrong because my total was “too low”! I knew it was correct, as I always have my scenarios/totals with me at checkout. I had several RR from last week, so my OOP was just over $1.00 I had never seen this gentleman before, so maybe he is a new employee.

I didn’t realize my salad dressing rang up wrong, and I knew it was too much, but then the Monthly booklet wouldn’t work, and they had to price adjust some stuff and I never got back to the dressing…and worst of all, my catalina didn’t print…they said the machine was updating, and I actually think the cashier enjoyed telling me that after everything was done. I was so disappointed, by I’ll apply for the Catalina by mail, it just takes awhile. So I’ve done the Kraft deal at a local grocery twice, and it works so smoothly, I am not bothering with Wags any more for this one.

kraft dressings ringing up at $3.99, told cashier about the bonus buy ad, she checked with manager, got them adjusted to 2 for $4.00 but the Kraft deal buy 10 items get 10.00 RR did not work only got $5.00 RR until it was also researched by the manager.

Reply

Barbara August 26, 2012 at 9:26 pm

Did they fix it, cause that is also what I got.

Reply

Amber August 26, 2012 at 11:33 pm

which items did you get for the kraft deal? I heard several people say they only recieved the 5 RR even though they had 10 items. They were getting items that weren’t included for the kraft RR

cindy August 26, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Had the same problem with the salad dressing. Mine rang up 3.98 each. Since it wasnt in their ad they wouldnt adjust it. Then the stayfree did ring up right but they didnt want to take my coupon because of the 1 cent difference finally got him to adjust the coupon after I pointed it out in the ad. I wish the checkout could go more efficently. On the good side, I did run into some clearance cereal for really cheap. I do a great deal of couponing for the womens shelter in my town. My walgreens had bulk size cereal bags 75% off which ended up being only $! a bag. I bought 9 from the money I made from my other deals!

Sounds like it is going to be a long week for the Walgreens employees. I wish they would send their employees to a coupon class so they would all understand how this works! LOL

Susan August 26, 2012 at 9:31 pm

I have no complaints about the employees or managers at my store. I must be lucky. I just wish the systems would be up to date with their advertised sale prices. I live in Plano, TX and my Walgreen’s had the highest reported price for Kraft salad dressings at $4.29. I wonder if other things in that store are higher priced?!

i have two walgreens with in 10 miles of me the one in my small town the prices are normally higher than the one with walmart nearby and I was told the one near walmart has to be competitive than my small town one.

Totally bummed… was looking forward to getting the miracle whip and shells and cheese deal. Miracle Whip on sale 2/$6 (no signs) but only 1 jar left, so couldn’t use wags Q. Mac and cheese not on sale at my store 🙁 Disappointing day at Walgreens

Reply

Amber August 26, 2012 at 11:39 pm

you can’t always go by the signs, just have them price check. A lot of stores don’t have the sale prices up by sunday and one of my stores don’t put up sales tags at all. But in this particular sale I think most of the sales were in the bonus buys, which are only available online. If you have a smart phone you should be able to pull the ad up on your phone or you can always print off the bonus buys pages on your computer so that the cashier can see what the prices should be. HTH!

I am getting a wireless printer today and want to print from my iPad. How do you do it?

Reply

Melissa August 27, 2012 at 8:54 am

I have a wireless printer and it’s awesome!! I’m assuming it’s the same as the iPhone to print from the iPad, I haven’t stolen my husbands yet to find out, but I just downloaded the coupons.com ap and at the bottom after you’ve selected your coupons it has a check out button or something like that and it gives you the option to email them or print them. My HP wireless printer actually has the coupons.com ap on the printer so I can print two more!

Sad Face…. The whole thing was a mess.. The cash register was happily ripping everyone off… The Stayfree rang at 3.99 x 3 and I didn’t catch that till I was home.. The Help rang at 3.99 even though the store flyer stated 3.00 .. They adjusted down .99. Couldn’t get the salad dressing.. it was ringing for a kings ransom. In fact I think everything rang wrong except the aussie and ironically they’d pulled the tag for it 3 days early..Across the street at cvs got the stayfree deal and it worked as well as everything else at cvs all systems were go. Does walgreens ever wonder why cvs is so packed I can’t find a parking place and why walgreens parking is always empty? Last week walgreens register ripped me off on there house brand facial tissue, and it wasn’t even on sale.. but scanned for a buck more then the shelf tag.

My stores walgreens employees are great and will adjust it if i catch it.. it is the computer updating system that is run by incompetent baffoons. I have a dream of a walgreens that has the register ring for the price on the ad. done with rant..

For all of you who had such a hard time with prices ringing up incorrectly, please contact Walgreens corporate and let them know your frustrations. I think it’s important to give feedback because I think sometimes the upper management doesn’t see what’s going on at the local level or understand the frustration it causes.

I don’t see it as being mean, it’s letting them know what’s happening so they can give us a better shopping experience. 🙂

Jill August 27, 2012 at 12:25 pm

Yes, great idea Christie.. In fact at the bottom of my receipt is a tellwag.com survey. I just finished completing it and it’s not just a yes/no rank.. etc.. they actually let you fill out a couple paragraphs as to why you are not happy with your recent shopping trip, and ask you if you would like corporate to phone you. So I listed all the items that didn’t ring correctly in detail with upc.. I praised the clerks, cleanliness etc.. probably overly so in a hope that they would concentrate on the real problem of the updating system accurately. I hope others do the same, not just on our deals we seek but on all the incorrect pricing.

I got over $216 in deals this week after pre-ordering Velveeta- NONE of the Kraft dressings rang up right-it all was $4.49 a bottle. I purchased all kinds- Ranch, Italian, Thousand Island and Honey Mustard- they were all in the system wrong. They did adjust to the correct price though.

Also, our Help Remedy Products were $3 in the add, but rang up $3.99 on the register- it also had to be adjusted.

I called corporate this morning and she said they were starting to get some calls on this- the best way to fix this problem is to call Corporate and NICELY let them know the issues. She did say they were unaware because they are not in the stores- there’s no possible way they could know price issues unless customers tell them! I appreciated her honesty and letting me know this was what should be done!

Reply

Kathy August 27, 2012 at 5:36 pm

I called corporate a few weeks ago when the Ensure was not ringing up correctly. They took down my info and their “solution” was to have the local store manager call me back. The manager wasn’t my problem – the computer not having the correct prices in it was my problem. Corporate just doesn’t “GET IT”. Why do the managers each have to fix the problems when it should be solved on corporate’s end!!

Has anyone else bought the Kraft Dressing (other than the Italian) and had the $1 off 2 coupon in the wags booklet work? I just wanted to make sure the coupon was working before I bought the other kinds.

I did the Kraft deal on Monday night at my 24hr Wags. I had to hurry because the RR printers go down around 12 a.m. Luckily I called the awesome manager to ask about the Kraft and Velveeta mac, he said they had plenty in stock , I warned him I was going in later to get a few , Lol. Since I had my $10 RR to roll from the Omega Smart deal I got the 10 items . Here’s what I got :
4 Boxes Kraft Deluxe Mac & Cheese
2 Boxes Velveeta Shells & Cheese both @ 2/$4
2 Jars of Miracle Whip @ 2/$6
2 Bottles of Kraft Ital. Dressing ( Didn’t ring up sale price , I showed them the Bonus Buy price on my phone & it was adjusted down ) @ 2/$4
-$3 Kraft & Velv. Mac IVC
-$1/2 Miracle whip/mayo
$1/2 Kraft Dressings
-2 $1/1 Velv. Mac. IPS, -2 $1/1 Kraft Mayo/Whip IPS,-1 $1/2 Kraft Dressing IP
– $10 RR = $2 OOP Got my $10 Kraft RR .Yay!

I read on another couponing website that the RR on the Crest toothpaste is rolling right now! Tomorrow will be the last day to use some of the coupons on that, so you might want to go try it out! I haven’t tried it myself, so I’m not completely sure.
