Walgreens: Updates From The Field 6/24

by Christie Bisbee on June 24, 2012

Here are some updates from my Walgreens Shopping trip today. It’s a raining mess where I am so I grabbed my polka-dotted rain boots and headed over to the store. πŸ™‚

BAYER ASPIRIN DEAL: We have a super deal on the Bayer Aspirin! If you got the $3 coupon that’s good on ANY Bayer 20ct+ you’ll have a $8.67 Money Maker (or better) when you buy (7) of these. There is no limit on the coupon as far as how many you can use in one transaction. If you need more of these, you can find the Bayer Coupon on Ebay HERE.

You can also get great deals on the 325mg Aspirin which is priced at about $4.99 for the 50ct. And remember prices may vary at your store. The low dose were $3.19 at my store but make sure you check your price before doing this deal and adjust accordingly. You’ll need to hit $20 in participating Bayer product before coupons.

Walgreens Deal
Buy (7) Bayer Low Dose (Regular, or Chewable Orange or Cherry) $3.19
Total = $22.33
(7) $3/1 Bayer Aspirin Product, exp. 8/18/12 (SS 06/24/12)
Total = $1.33, Get Back $10 Register Reward
= $8.67 Money Maker!

If you need more coupons you can also use…
(1) $2.50/2 Bayer Aspirin Product, exp. 6/30/12 (RP 04/29/12)
(1) $1/1 Bayer Aspirin Product, exp. 6/30/12 (RP 04/29/12)

***If you have issues at your particular store using coupons with these types of deals (where you need to hit a $$$ amount), then I would not do this deal.Β  I believe this is an issue that may be unique to select stores.*** (Thanks Frugal Finders, Couponaholic & Sarah!)

BLUE DIAMOND ALMONDS DEAL: There’s a new coupon onΒ Recyclebank for $1.50/2 Blue Diamond Almonds! That makes for a super deal on these this week, since they are B1G1 Free! Plus the coupon only requires 50 points to redeem. (Thanks Crystal!)

Buy (2) Blue Diamond Almonds 6oz B1 @$3.79 G1 FREE
$1.50/2 Blue Diamond Almonds 6oz+ Recyclebank Coupon
Total = $1.15 EACH!

GILLETTE FUSION REGISTER REWARD DEAL: The Gillette deal was acting VERY strangely today. When I purchased the 4ct Fusion cartridges and the razor no $10 RR printed. However, the manager rang up (2) Fusion razors to get the Register Reward to print and that worked just fine. And the Fusion Power and Razor seemed to work too. STRANGE! So, if you are doing this deal today, make sure your register reward prints.

SUAVE DEAL: Remember the Suave deal is still going on this week, so you can grab (2) FREE shampoos after Register Rewards! Just buy (2) Suave Shampoo or conditioner, at $1 each in one transaction and you’ll get a $2 Register Reward back making them free!

STARBUCKS: This sale continues this week, so you can get some great deals! We just got a Keurig so I am excited about this deal.

Starbucks Coffee K-Cups 10pk or Ground Coffee 12oz $6.49
$3/$13 any Starbucks products printable
$1.50/1 Starbucks coffee 11oz+, exp. 8/31/12 (SS 06/17/12)

So how did your shop go? Find any great deals? Let us know! πŸ™‚

Tried to do the razor deal and it didn’t print for me either here in Orange Park area. And of course it was at a “difficult” store where they always have issues with coupons and usage and NEVER want to work through the deal.I just had her void the entire thing. Not sure why I even continue to shop there other than the fact its so close to the house.

Tracy,
Don’t go to the one on Kingsley, just walking into the store is a great big hassel for them. No one greets you and they get bend just having to ring you up. They NEVER have the RR deals printed and up under the products, it is like they don’t want anyone to buy anything. Unless they get an overhaul, I’m sure they will close and wonder why. Drive a few miles south to the one on HWY17 in FI. They cut coupons out of the paper and tape them to the shelves, they bend over backwards to help you!! They know the weekly ad and have signs posted everywhere. The manager will go in the back to look for stuff and if they are out, he will substitute items…they get my money repeatedly they are so good with that old fashion word….customer service!

Thanks for the warning! I’ll make sure to avoid that store.Avoid the Brannan field store too. They actually refused to honor thier own ad one week. You probably remember the carefree deal that had the 1.00 off Q a month or so ago right?Well it was listed in walgreens ad as being able to use the coupon combined with sale and get the liners for free. They refused to do it because I would get the item free even though thier own ad told me I could!!They told me I couldn’t use the coupon at all. You’re right about the 17 store. Been there too. AWESOME customer service,I also get great service from the knight box road walgreens. They are always friendly and also tape Q’s to the shelves.

Both of you need to be certain to call corporate and ask for a DISTRICT manager to call you back on that store! They do NOT go for that kind of thing- and the district manager can actually go to the store and correct this – we have done this in El Paso- yo u would be surprised at he results! I got over $40 in gift cards from Wags last year because of one TOTALLY RUDE manager! Besides, think of all the other customers you would be helping!

Yup I had issues with the Kingley store too. I have stopped going there since last summer! The second time I was in there I wanted to do 2 transactions so I could roll my RR. The manager that was there wispered to the cashier, “It’s one of those people trying to score RR again!” Needless to say they did not let me do the second transaction and told me only one transaction per person per day with RR, even though the second transaction had different items in it, I couldn’t ring it up and pay with my RR. I had my mom with me that day so I gave her my RR and said fine, she’s another person and they still said no because I gave her my RR! What a load of crap. So I have not been back to that store and vowed never to shop there again! There are plenty of other Walgreens in OP that are more than accomodating. One on Well Rd and Blanding and one on 220 are very nice.

I hear you all! About a month ago I was not able to get ahold of any Ecotrin when it was a money maker so I thought at least I’d get it for free with my coupons and a rain check… well the “wonderful” manager on duty refused to give me a rain check for the sale price and her reason was “because it was the last day of the sale” ???? Helloooo! Then what is the purpose of a rain check?

niki June 24, 2012 at 12:13 pm

Out of suave here, and have been since the 1st day of the sale.

My store said only participating items were giving rewards with the gillette. They did however ring them all up to find out which ones they were. Any gillette razor. The only cartridges that worked were the more expensive power ones. $18.99 for a 4ct. ( I did however find a box of power cartridges with a free trial face scrub).

I got 2 sunscreens, 1 power razor, 1 4pk cartridges, 4 bayer low dose aspirin, 1 40ct Aleve. Started with no RR, spent $27 cash, and have $10RR for next time.

Reply

Venessa June 24, 2012 at 12:29 pm

The suave lotion is in the ad picture as generating the RR. Does anybody know the price on these (fingers crossed- say $1, say $1)?

Reply

sharell June 24, 2012 at 12:37 pm

The lotions are $3

Hi I wanted to see of anyone else was having any problems with the Schick razors. The ad says they’re on sale for b1g1 free, but when I got to the store there were sticky notes saying that the Schick razors are not included in the sale, even though the ad lists them. I only went to one Walgreens so I don’t know if this is the same at all Walgreens, just thought I’d ask. I was looking forward to getting them.

Reply

Amber June 24, 2012 at 2:06 pm

My store said just the Schick hydro wasn’t included but the others mentioned were

Reply

Hedy June 24, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Online at Walgreens.com they show b1g1 free so.. I’m going to try a different store

Reply

Dave June 24, 2012 at 5:10 pm

I had the same problem at my Wags with the Schick deal (in The Villages, FL on CR 466 — not my favorite Wags, but the one closest to me unfortunately).

Christie, do you know what the policy is on this? I would have thought that the printed ad trumps everything. Otherwise, they could say whatever they want in the ads (“everything in the store is free!”) but then refuse to honor the deal in-store. Doesn’t seem right to me.

Reply

Tasha June 25, 2012 at 12:44 am

Walgreens has a disclaimer usually on the bottom of the front or back page of the ad saying that they reserve the right to adjust as needed in case of an ad misprint. Everyone makes mistake and a company is no different. Other retailers usually have the same disclaimer on their ad. So yes they can refuse to honor it. With that said, I am a manager with Walgreens. All stores were supposed to put up an ad apology sign today saying hydro was not included. Now if I were the manager in a store that did NOT have the sign up yet and a customer wanted it, I’d give it to them for the ad price. But if there were an ad apology up and visible, I would not.

Reply

Christie June 25, 2012 at 12:48 am

Unfortunately, they can always say the ad was a mistake. But I think this may have been a boo boo that hopefully will be fixed later in the week. If you look at Walgreens.com you’ll find that Hydro is listed is B1G1 Free on-line.

Reply

Deana June 24, 2012 at 8:38 pm

I had the same problem, DH was charged for BOTH razors, so I had to send DD down to fix it… (I was on migraine meds and couldn’t drive)..Anywhoo, DD was in a vicious circle with the cosmetics lady until the Mgr. came out and said “It’s been a problem all morning, you need to hard key it in, schick hydro 3 and 5 are both part of the deal, corporate just hasn’t programmed it in yet”…thank goodness for Anne! She’s a super friendly manager πŸ™‚

Reply

Jaime June 24, 2012 at 9:53 pm

Had the same problem with the Schick hydro silk razors. The ad doesn’t state which hydro razors are b1g1free. So the store modified the price so I got the sale. They said they were also having other issues with other sales not ringing up right either. I planned to buy more razors this Saturday hopefully they have it all straighten out by then

I was surprised to get a $1 RR when I purchased 4 boxes of Post Shredded Wheat. Anybody else have comments on this?

Wendy,

I had a $1 RR print when I bought 2 Post Honey Bunches of Oats. So, I went and got 2 more and it printed another $1 RR! Making each box only $2 each!

Reply

Allison June 24, 2012 at 1:27 pm

The reason you were having problems with the Gillette is you were buying the 4ct and to get the RR you have to purchase the 8ct and the coupon is only for the 4ct.

Reply

Nancy H June 24, 2012 at 2:26 pm

I used the coupon and bought the Gillette Fusion Proglides (4 count) and got the catalina. The regular fusion blades wouldn’t work-I tried them at first and voided that transaction to try the proglides which worked fine.

For the Coppertone, which should be handed first the skin care, or the $5/2? I’ve had problems before since the skin care says “mfq good at walgreens” in the fine print.

Our awesome store manager told me if new machin es, the in ad and ivc coupons must be scanned first THEN the man. coupons- last week on the hershey candybar deals-if she didnt scan them first- the price tripled automaticallY! Oddest thing!

It was weird, they scanned the skin care first, then mfq and the $5/2 beeped, but she pushed it through.

Print out Walgreens coupon policy that states the coupon will be reduced if it is over the price of the item.

Reply

kahla June 24, 2012 at 9:20 pm

yes, this is true. It seems like managers and employees either dont know the policy or they just dont like doing the work on adjusting the coupon down. I always have the policy with me to every store that i coupon at and it helps alot. Main thing is , is that you have to stand your ground. It clearly states in the coupon policy that the coupon is to be reduced if the value of the coupon exceded the item .

Reply

Karen A June 25, 2012 at 1:26 am

It actually READS that it can be adjusted down and GIVES an example of how the coupon will be adjusted in the policy- James- read your policy and stand your ground. Ask for a manager. If they still say no- call corporate right then and there, and ask for the district manager to call you back! You would be surprised at the outcome!!

Michelle – When you’re using mfc coupons, it is before coupons. I have already done this deal today in Illinois and it worked fine.

Reply

Reeca June 24, 2012 at 10:58 pm

I bought 7 bayer at $2.99 each today and used 7- $3 coupons. The 7th one had to be reduced to $2.94 because of the coupon overage. The $10 RR printed no problem. I would try it at a store and see if it prints.

Reply

rodney June 24, 2012 at 11:59 pm

had to complain to my store about it today and called corporate on the spot cuz me or the cashier knew for sure and they did say my total had to be 20 dollars after coupons and thats why mine didnt print i did say theres nothing on the tags that say that either so they ended up giving it to me

Yvette June 24, 2012 at 4:44 pm

After reading everyone’s troubles with the Gillette catalinas I almost skipped buying them. Instead, I drove past the “difficult” Walgreen’s in Wheeling and went to the slightly less difficult one down the street. Bought 4pk Proglide cartridges for $17.99 and the matching razor for 10.99 on sale. Used the B1G1 from 6/3PG and $3 off from 6/17SS (which I thought they would disallow, but worth a shot). Not only did the catalina print no problem, but the B1G1 scanned for 17.99, so I ended up with a little momeymaker on the deal. πŸ™‚

Reply

Karen A June 25, 2012 at 1:29 am

So Yvette- you bought 4 proglide and 4 razors? You can always use a coupon on the free item per Wags coupon policy so that isnt ever going to be a problem if they know their policy.

Reply

LoriSaves June 27, 2012 at 11:56 am

Their policy is referring to an item made FREE by a STORE sale, or coupon!! Not by you using a coupon already on the item (mfr)!!!

Think about it- if you have a “Free Razor” coupon by itself, would you then REALLY THINK you could use a $3 off coupon WITH it??? you’re already getting it for free, they can’t discount it FURTHER!

This is dishonest, people, and YOU KNOW IT

Don’t be willing to sacrifice your integrity in order to save a few extra dollars.

Reply

LoriSaves June 27, 2012 at 11:53 am

that’s wonderful that you’re willing to try using the $3 off coupon, even though you KNOW you’re misusing it. But hey, if they let you get away with it then great, right?

*shakes head*

The way that you people justify your theft is appalling.

You CANNOT use a coupon that makes the razor FREE with a $3 off the RAZOR coupon!!!!!!

Things like this (little deceptions/misuse) are what make people SUSPICIOUS of couponers! Conduct yourself HONESTLY ALWAYS!!!!!

Reply

Karen A June 30, 2012 at 8:00 pm

Lorie, this is a forum for asking questions and figuring out how to use a coupon appropriately. I do not need you to preach, criticuze or judge anyone. If I wanted your opinion I would have asked for it. I was merely asking a question to think it through for myself, to get it clear in my head. My statement about using a coupon on any B1G1 free is INDEED in their coupon policy, and THAT was what I was referring to!

Instead of judging others, how about being helpful and simply stating what should be used, and the reasons why? I am so SICK of judgmental people like you who feel the need to jump all over those who are learning. “If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.” Try than mantra. OR as an alternative- ZIP it.

I purchased the Gillette Fusion razor and the 4ct cartridge pack and the $10 RR did not print out. My store manager was so very helpful and she did a separate transaction to get me the Cat . (I’m in central Wisconsin and the manager of my store is so nice). I was very disappointed on the Schick Hydro deal as I had $4 coupons for them. Posted was a sign saying that there was a misprint in the ad and the Hydro was not included. I used my $3/1 Bayer coupon for the Bayer advanced to get it free – never thinking I could use it on the $10 wyb $20 deal. Thanks for the idea! Love your site!

I did the Coppertone deal, then rolled the $10RR into the Bayer deal, then rolled that $10RR into another Coppertone deal. I still have $10RR for next week. I could have kept going but I ran out of sunscreen coupons. I am lucky at my store. The same lady is at the register every sunday morning. She likes dealing with me. She tells me I am the most polite couponer that she deals with, I always know the rules and policy, and I dont get mad when a deal doesnt work. She says she deals with too many rude couponers and gets a sigh of relief when I come through her line.

Reply

Karen A June 26, 2012 at 2:58 am

Too bad that’s her experience Scott because all our girls here say most of our couponers are quite considerate. We have about 20 stores throughout the entire city. I wonder sometimes when cashiers say they have rude couponers who is actually rude- because many, many cashiers do not know their policies. I used to work at Walgreens and know it first hand!

I had a rough time with the Bayer deal yesterday. I was buying several things together including Twizzlers, Coppertone, Hefty slider bags, milk, Suave, and Dixie napkins along with 7 Bayer orange low dose. About midway through scanning coupons, the register froze up and wouldn’t take any more coupons (my order was still over $70 and I had more items than coupons so that wasn’t the problem.) Manager had to over-ride and manually enter coupons. I used 5 $3/1 and 1 $2.50/2 Bayer coupons so it wasn’t an overage problem either. My Suave and Coppertone RRs printed, but the Bayer one did not. The clerk wanted to argue that it was because the orange low dose wasn’t pictured in the ad, and was this even in this week’s ad. Manager came back and verified that it was included, so he rang another Bayer product up to print the RR for me but he wasn’t happy.

FYI…ran across a GREAT deal today! My store has had lots of Clairol hair color on the clearance endcap. I noticed the Natural Instinct ‘no brass’ in the mix for $4.39 (half of regular price) so I grabbed 2 so that I could use my $5/2 coupon which I thought was a great deal…but was gladly surprised to have them ring up at 4.39 for the first and 50% off for the second at 2.19, so with $5 off together they were $1.60 so 80 cents each.

I just did the bayer deal. Mine was $2.99 each, so I was $.07 over. I suggested they adjust the coupon down. The manager refused and said it was coupon fraud and he refused to do it. I did finally convince him to increase the price of one of the asprins. I said to raise it up to $3.07, which was the correct price but he raised it up to $3.10 “just to be safe.” So weekday is the correct way? The walgreens policy says if the items sell price is less than the value of the coupon, walgreens will only accept the coupon in exchange for the sales price of the item. Thoughts?

Reply

Karen A June 30, 2012 at 8:07 pm

Andrea, I have run across this SO many times! Call corporate Walgreens, and ask for a DISTRICT manager to return your call. Tell him or her that this happened, the policy specifically says the coupon must be adjusted to the lower price and ask if the manager has been educated on this because it’s a huge problem for you when you shop. I have done this 3 times this year- and received a $10 gift card for my troubles PLUS the manager got educated at my store finally! YAY! WIn win for all of us!

Reply

Andrea June 27, 2012 at 8:00 pm

My thought that means that the coupon needs to match the item, not the item match the coupon
