Walgreens: Updates From the Field 6/10

by Christie Bisbee on June 10, 2012

Here are some Walgreens updates from my trip to help your trip go a little easier!

NIVEA DEAL: The Nivea or Men Face Balms pictured and the Nivea shave gels (sensitive and moisturizing) were marked for the Register Reward. The Nivea for Men face wash, lotion and scrub all rang up regular price for me. So you can do this deal…

Walgreens Deal
Buy (2) Nivea Post Shave Balm 2/$7
$2.25/1 Nivea for Men After Shave Balm printable
Total = $2.50, Get Back $2 RR
= $0.25 EACH

GILLETTE DEAL: The Gillette Fusion razor that’s $9.99 with the $4 RR is not overlapping with the $10 RR WYB $30 in Select P&G products deal. So if you want to use the FREE Gillette Razor wyb Fusion Cartridge (P&G 06/03/12) coupon, you’ll get the Razor FREE and get $4 RR and the Cartridge will count towards the $10/$30 deal but the razor will not. I had my fingers crossed for a nice surprise but not this time around!

STARBUCKS DEAL: The $3 off a $13 Starbucks coupon was a big old beeper. It didn’t matter if it was coffee, ice cream, K-cups, whatever, it was just a beeper. So be prepared for that coupon to be entered manually. I used it to get Java Chip ice cream (YUM!) for cheap.

Walgreens Deal
Buy (6) Starbucks Ice Cream $4.99 B1G1 FREE
Total = $14.97
$3 off of $13 Starbucks Purchase, Any (zip 77477)
Total = $1.99 EACH!

We also will have Starbucks Coffee and K-cups on sale next week so you may want to print and hold the coupon till next week if you prefer coffee over ice cream.

KEURIG GIVEAWAY: Speak of coffee… if any of you are coffee addicts (like me) you might want to check out my Keurig Giveaway on my other site Wild For CVS. You can go HERE to enter to win a Keurig Coffee Maker Home & Travel Set! You have until tomorrow – Monday, June 11th at midnight ET, to enter.

NEW SIGNS: Anyone notice the new funny looking signs at their stores too? Some sales are going to start running for two weeks instead of one – so I’m guessing that’s part of the change, and why they have the end dates printed in the corner on them. They are easy to read but I have to admit – I am so used to looking for yellow that it was strange. They just don’t stand out very much!

How did your shop go? Did you find any great deals? Let us know! 🙂

I was excited about the Nivea deal this week. Wanted to stock up on Shaving cream and face wash. Went to the store and nothing was marked on sale or RR. But some were on Clearance.

Tried the face wash and did not ring up on sale. The manager rung up the other items to see which ones came up on sale and gave the RR. The only ones we saw were the Balm and lotion that were the clearance items. Did not care for the Balm. The lotion might be O.K., but did not see a coupon for that unless it falls under one of the other categories.

Which shave gel rang up on sale. The clear tube stuff or the tall bottle. Neither showed on sale or RR at my Walgreens.

It worked on the nivea sensitive lotion and the shaving gel for me….and the extreme comfort shave balm was marked on clearance for 3.49 and gave the rr … thank goodness the girls at my store are so patient….

Crappy week for me…used my RRs from last week and bought my son two packs of the Hanes Tshirts that are BOGO. Not the greatest deal ever, but RRs would be expiring soon and he needed new tshirts…total of 6 Hanes tshirts for $13.49.

Also noticed on the shaving gel, the coupon is on 2 products. So this is not really a great deal unless you need the Balm.

My walgreens ad showed an exclusion on the Nivea Q10 products. So I didn’t try to buy those, even though your picture shows them on sale. No signs were up at my store at 7am, so I tried a few items but found only the balm was on sale.
Other than that I got Cottonelle and Therma care wraps. Pretty light week overall.

Mitchell @ Frugal Finders June 10, 2012 at 7:01 pm

I did buy a couple items that were labeled as Q10 items. Very odd that they were excluded in the ad but rang up on sale!

Reply

Juliet June 11, 2012 at 2:11 am

It’s only the Q10 LOTION that was excluded and lip balm per the ad.

The manager at mine had to come over and adjust everything, but I held them to the exact wording of their ad 🙂

I was able to pick up 2-in1 Q10 Balm, the after shave balm and the Face scrub for the 2/$7 deal. Register rewards printed out just fine.

Mitchell @ Frugal Finders June 10, 2012 at 7:00 pm

I thought the signs were odd too! I’m very nervous about all of the changes that will be happening at Walgreens in the near future.

Have you heard that Walgreens is going to implement some kind of loyalty system/card in September?

Reply

rashelle June 10, 2012 at 9:30 pm

i did not like the new tags. they are funky.
I have not seen the new ads that have the 2 week sales but I heard that some of the ad will be for one week and the rest of the ad will 2 weeks. its gonna be weird ar first.

Brenda June 11, 2012 at 1:28 am

Mitchell,
Some of the cashiers in my area have been talking about a new loyalty card, too. I’m still hoping it’s just a rumor…or at least different than the program they tested before. I was in the test market for that program and was not impressed at all!

Reply

Dianne June 11, 2012 at 9:04 am

Not rumor, it will be going live Corporate wise in September. Check out the post of iheartwags. I spoke to my manager about it last week. He told me he has a district managers meeting in July where they will probably find out the info. He said he would let me know after that. He also said that “some” employees will be given the cards to test in August but it WILL go live in September. His response to my question…”Will they be doing away with RRs?” I don’t know yet…Let’s hope not!

Christie June 11, 2012 at 9:52 am

Once we have actual details I will write about it. Until then, I am not going to speculate. I don’t want to confuse people. 😛

Reply

Christie June 11, 2012 at 9:42 am

There will be a card – it’s why the stores are getting new registers.

All the details of the program are not known. I don’t post rumors or speculation so I am not going to write about something where the details are not available.

@ Robert… somehow I had 2 printables for 2.25/1 shaving product…so it was a good deal on the shave gel…I. was gonna do the deal again and realized the next 2 qs I had were 2.25/2 ….:(

Jacob June 10, 2012 at 7:27 pm

At the Walgreens we went to today, the Q10 shave gel was on clearance for $1.99. We used the 2.25/2 coupon and the register reward printed to our surprise. Made this a nice little .27 MM!

Reply

Vanessa June 10, 2012 at 7:28 pm

I was able to get the Balm, face wash, face scrub, and aftershave/gel moisturizer in Mo. They were all 2/$7 and printed the $2 register rewards (only the balm was marked on the shelf). after coupons I paid $2.70 out of pocket and got the $2 RR, which means I really only paid .70 or .35 per item. Great deal!!!!

Reply

Shannon June 10, 2012 at 7:29 pm

My favorite BA must have called in because she wasn’t there and no tags were up. I had already read that the face wash was not ringing up on sale but was still printing the $2 RR. My store knows me and adjusted the price of the face wash when I showed them the ad. It was a good trip for me because of this!

The Nivea For Men face wash rang up at 6.99 but still printed the $2 RR. They also price adjusted it down for me so I still got it at the price I was hoping for.

The Gillette Fusion razor that’s $9.99 with the $4 RR is overlapping with the $10 RR WYB $30 in Select P&G products deal.
Purchased:
(4) – Nestle spree $1.96
(2) – ProGlide Razors $19.98
(2)- 4ct ProGlide Cartridges $33.98
(2)- Gillette Hydra Gel $9.98
– (2) bogo $9.99
– (2) Gillette shave gel $1.00
– (4) $10.00 RR
subtotal 3.92
tax $5.93
total $9.85 OOP
Get back $10 RR and $4 RR

You would need 2 of the BOGO Qs to get the overlapping RR. Hope this helps.

Mary June 10, 2012 at 10:00 pm

Christie mentioned the Fusion razor $9.99 is not counting towards the $30 … Your scenario shows you purchasing both deals, but you met your $30 with just the cartridges. You should be able to get the $10 RR and $4 RR by buying one less cartridge, one less Razor and adding one more shave gel. I believe the shave gels are included in the $10 RR deal. Your subtotal would’ve been $21.93 or $20.93 if you use another $1 off shave gel.

Deb H. June 11, 2012 at 11:16 am

I tried a similar deal and only got the $4 RR. I also tried the Gillette deal with just body washes and I didn’t get ANY RR! The cashier said that the total of $30 must be AFTER the coupons. That doesn’t make it a very good deal then!

Reply

Mary June 11, 2012 at 12:05 pm

I always use coupons on RR deals and up until this $10 RR deal I have not had a problem … I’ve done several deals with cartridges and shave gel and have yet to get a $10 RR. This deal is really frustrating since these cartridges are so expensive … and Wags registers are deducting for the amount of the cartridges which is JUST CRAZY!!!

I was very dissatisfied also. I e-mailed catalina with my info and am waiting to hear back from them. I purchased 1 Gillette styler, 1 Gillette ProGlide razor, 1 Gillette gel, 1 Gillette Fusion cartridge, 1 Mack 3 cartridge, The cartidges were clearly marked along with the shave gel as part of this deal, well over $30.00. This was a bust. I hope catalina holds their end the deal. Hopefully the fight is worth something:) If not I may be returning these items.

Julie June 13, 2012 at 8:58 am

No gillete deal here either. I tried (2) fusion razors and (2) 4 count cartridges.
The cartirdges alone were 31.98 and I got no RR. I am not sure if it was because I go tthe $4 RR for teh first razor, since it was gillette also? I was hoping for a $4RR from 1 razor and a $10RR from teh cartridges. The cashier said the $10 RR was only for teh items in the picture not the fusion cartidges (which were not pictured)

I bought 2 of the Nivea shaving creams on clearance for $2.19 and used the $2.25 off 2 coupon and got the $2 reward. So that made them only .13 each and my store had lots on clearance. (One of the shaving creams was even a Q10, but the ad I read said excludes Q10 lotion not shaving cream).

grace June 10, 2012 at 8:19 pm

I’m really bummed the Gillette razors arent’ overlapping. The cashier told me they were included in the Buy $30 get $10. 🙁

Reply

melissa June 10, 2012 at 9:00 pm

I hope there are good deals next week. I don’t have anything for this week and I have a TON of RR that will expire in about 10 days.

Reply

cristy June 10, 2012 at 9:22 pm

I use my RR at Fred Meyer (Kroger Affiliate) if I cant find anything to roll them into at Wags. They will accept them since they are a manf. coupon. I use them on things like meat and produce since it is rare to have a coupon for those items.

Reply

mary June 10, 2012 at 10:48 pm

I am surprised they take them…they say Redeemable only at Walgreens on them. Publix used to take them, but recently has stopped due to this wording. Lucky for you!

Reply

mkw June 10, 2012 at 10:52 pm

Cub Foods will also take Register Rewards. In addition, they take coupons (and register rewards) that are 30 days expired!

Reply

Charity June 11, 2012 at 12:19 am

And you can use the RRs at Walmart. Be sure to bring coupon policy with you because many cashiers don’t understand that these are the Catalinas that Walmart accepts.

Reply

Karen A June 11, 2012 at 6:03 am

I used RRs at Walmart today because expiring and didnt have time to use the $2 rr. No problem, says right in the Walmart Policy they take them.

Reply

mel June 11, 2012 at 1:40 pm

where in the policy does it say they take rr’s? I have read and reread the policy and they say they accept –
Checkout coupons (“Catalinas”)
Printed at our competitors’ registers for dollar/cents off on a specific item (like a .75/4 Skinny Cow candy)

Then it goes on to say they don’t accept
Checkout coupons:
Dollars/cents off the entire basket purchase
Percentage off the entire basket purchase
Print-at-home Internet coupons that require no purchase
Competitors’ coupons: Dollars/cents off at a specific retailer

To me, the don’t accept would be RR’s for a dollar off amount, like the $2 RR from purchasing Nivea would be specific to Walgreens.

Reply

Diane June 11, 2012 at 11:52 pm

Mel, I agree. The way I read the Walmart policy, a RR would be a non-acceptable “checkout coupon” because they are $/off entire purchase, and do not list $/off a SPECIFIC item. As you also stated, the Skinny Cow coupon is proper use of a catalina printed at a competitor register. Also many Target catalinas should be accepted at Walmart, as lots of them say “manufacturers coupon” and list $/off a specific item. The catalinas that state “Target coupon” should not be accepted. I guess it is up to management at individual Walmart stores whether or not to take RRs.

Reply

Karen A June 16, 2012 at 7:36 pm

No, a Register Reward is considered a Catalina. I have been through corporate on this SEVERAL times- Walmart considers the RR a Catalina- because that’s what it is. Done it at lots of stores, and i never get a problem- the district manager called me on this last month as I wanted to make sure I was using the right thing- and he said their managers have specifically been trained to recognize a RR as a Catalina.

Think of it this way- if you don’t get a RR -where do you write to get it mailed to you? CATALINA!

I work at walgreens and just wanted to tell you the deal with the new ads. Walgreens will have a new ad system. What we were told is that the ad will be the same as for two weeks but only the front pages will change. We will find out for sure next week. But all the ads will look like these new green ones. Megasavers and sale ads.

Jorge June 10, 2012 at 9:46 pm

Sorry to ask but what Q10 stands for and where should I look for it?

Reply

Diane June 10, 2012 at 11:38 pm

Only one nivea men’s balm left on the shelf, so I missed out on that one for now. But I was excited to see an in-store special on Cottonelle 2/$7! So with my (2) .50 mqs and $2 RR that printed, only $2 pkg. Also got some of the Skinny Cow singles with BOGO coupons and the Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls for $1 ea after (2) $1 mqs. Never tried these, but for a dollar a piece, willing to take a chance!

Reply

Ashley June 10, 2012 at 11:40 pm

I did the cottonelle deal ( bought 2 12 pk to and two wipes tubs) but only one $2 RR printed.

I hate the new tags since I am in COS they overlap on products because of there size, plus being hard to recoginize because they kind of blend in more than likely old tags will be missed and prices not ring up right equaling unhappy customers. I’ll just have to see what the new ad looks like hopefully I will get a glimpse of it on Wednesday, Manager said that the front page will be this weeks deals and the last page will be next weeks deals and everything in between will be for both weeks.

Reply

Patti June 11, 2012 at 11:08 am

Clearly the scrub and face wash should have been part of the sale, per the ad I read, however, the clerk checked the price for me on these and it was not. They didn’t offer to adjust it down, and I did not ask. They just told me it was not part of the sale. Another misprint maybe? I did get the Q10 shave cream on clearnace and got a reward.

My Walgreens cashier adjusted all the Nivea Mens products down that I picked out (various face washes, lotions, balms, etc.) even when they did not scan at $3.50 each. The add said “Nivea Mens Care” and did not specify a type.

Reply

dee June 12, 2012 at 3:22 am

my ad in SoCal did not show the BOGO on the Starbucks ice cream. totally blows, been craving that deal since last week!

Reply

Sara June 12, 2012 at 2:21 pm

My Walgreens, the Nivea balm was only ringing up, but since the ad clearly states “Nivea Men” and did not specify any particular one Nivea Men the manager adjusted the price on the face scrub and after shave gels for me. They printed put RR fine and I was able to get a great deal, no problems.
