Walgreens: Updates From the Field 1/22

by Christie Bisbee on January 22, 2012

Here are a few updates from Walgreens today. Things pretty much went smoothly since it was a light shopping day for me.

BIC COUPON
So, it looks like the Bic Twist is also considered disposable. My coupon had the Hybrid pictured but not the Twist so I wasn’t sure until I saw the product up close today.

Get $2 RR WYB Bic Twist $5.99
-B1G1 Bic Disposable Razor (SS 01/08/12)
= $1.99 EACH

TRIAMINIC FEVER REDUCER
Some of you are having a hard time finding these. They should be in the same isle as the regular Triaminic, but my store has them on the last level at the bottom, where the regular Triaminic are more eye level.

TYLENOL COLD/SORE THROAT
And here’s an awesome tip from Brenda – If you get the Tylenol Cold โ€“ Sore Throat regular variety (blue liquid – not nighttime or daytime, just regular), the only active ingredient in it is Tylenol and 1 tablespoon is equal to 1 extra strength Tylenol pill. The other bottles have additional active ingredients but not that particular variety, so it’s basically liquid Tylenol. (Thanks Brenda!)

BREATHE RIGHT STRIPS
Some of you are still getting the catalina for the FREE Breathe Right Strips when you buy the Tylenol. (Thanks Jennifer!) I didn’t buy any Tylenol this time but if you got the catalina again today let us know!

POWER BARS
Kristina let me know she kept getting $2/10 catalina coupons for the PowerBars today! If you get the same, remember that these will produce a $2 Register Reward WYB 10. The Pure & Simple bars are on sale for 2/$1 so if you get the catalina too, you can grab them for just .10 each! (Thanks Kristina)

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy 10 PowerBars Pure & Simple 2/$1
Total = $5
-$2/10 PowerBar Catalina
Total = $3 Get Back $2 Register Reward
= .10ยข EACH

How was your shop? What great deals did you find? Let us know!

I have noticed that the powerbar catalina spits out when you use a powerbar rr to pay for your other stuff. hth

Thanks for the info on the Tylenol! My daughter doesn’t swallow pills and is well beyond children’s meds so this is a great find!

I received a Free Breath Right. I purchased the Tylenol, Triaminic, Theraflu and Flurry protein bar. I also have been getting the $2 off 10 powerbar when I use the 2RR from Powerbar.

I also received a heads up on Kleenex starting 1-23 through 2-19. Buy Kleenex tissue (50ct or larger) buy 5 get $1RR,
buy 6 get $1.50 RR, buy 7 get $2RR.
there is a IVC this week for 99cents on kleenex.

Lauren January 22, 2012 at 5:18 pm

The Kleenex WQ says “limit 3”. How will this work if I buy 5+?

Jill January 23, 2012 at 12:53 pm

That’s where a great relationship with your cashier comes into play. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And just a heads up on this cat deal…it didn’t work at by Walgreens. I too had this at our local grocery store, so thought I would give it a shot. It was a no go.

Reply

Judy January 23, 2012 at 10:44 pm

Sorry it didn’t work for you. I received a Catalina saying it would.

Reply

Lindsay January 22, 2012 at 5:01 pm

Do you have to buy something specific to get the powerbar coupon?

Reply

Melody January 22, 2012 at 7:33 pm

I used my rr powerbar from previous week to pay for my purchase and it spit out the $2 off catalina for the powerbar. I has done that everytime I use a powerbar rr, HTH

I bought the .5oz Cortaid for $3.99 and used the $2/1 Wags Q and the $3/1 any size Cortaid MQ to get it for FREE!

BUT- They had a lot of problems ringing up the MQ for some reason. She had to enter it manually…. There was a line of people glaring at me ๐Ÿ™

Reply

Leigh January 22, 2012 at 10:08 pm

I had the same issue with the Cortaid today, she had to manually enter the manufactor q, after trying everything else, but thank goodness it wasn’t a printable or they wouldn’t of taken it!! My cashier is a big couponer herself, so she knew it was legit!

Reply

Melody January 23, 2012 at 1:34 am

Where did you find the $2/1 Wags coupon?

Reply

Heather L. January 23, 2012 at 10:37 am

Melody, the $2/1 coupon is in the weekly flyer from wags. I too had theproblem of the $3 MQ not ringing up right and the cashier ad to enter it in manually. I think the problem is this: $4.29 (reg price @ my wags for .5oz size). Minus the $2 wags and $3 MQ is more then the cost. Since Wags doesn’t do overage, then the coupon would need to be adjusted down.
But I don’t think my cashier did that, I think he gave me the full $3 off b/c I saved a lot more then I figured out I would save. But I’m not sure, those are just my thoughts.

Reply

Kim January 25, 2012 at 12:40 pm

I went today to use the $3 Cortaid MQ and the cashier (who said she was a couponer herself) stated that if I would have read the whole page that the coupon was on it said ‘Only Redeemable at Walmart’, and after she told that it was true to the Manager he wouldn’t take it off manually either! Does anyone remember seeing that on the page because it says it no where on the coupon itself (although it is small)?

Reply

Christie January 25, 2012 at 2:38 pm

A cashier is going to deny you using a coupon because the cashier “thinks” that there was an ad for walmart somewhere on the page but NOT on the actual coupon? I’m sorry but that’s NUTS!

Reply

Kim January 25, 2012 at 2:59 pm

UGH, I agree.. I have trouble at this Walgreens all the time, you would think I would learn and go to another one, BUT I was close by and gave it a try!

Wendy January 22, 2012 at 5:52 pm

I wanted to buy a single women’s Rogaine that was on clearance for $7.50 today. I gave them the $10 off any Rogaine coupon, and they would not take it because it was over the amount of the product.

I went home and printed/highlighted their policy which said “in the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Walgreens will only accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item.” So I went back to the store to purchase the $7.50 Rogaine, and this time the employee said we do not take coupons on clearance items. I know that I have purchased clearance items many times in the past with coupons. Haven’t you?????

Reply

Dealwagger January 22, 2012 at 6:05 pm

Sounds like you should give corporate a call. I have heard that too many times to count from uniformed cashiers (even on just sale items!) but those that know better will definitely take the MQ on clearance!

Reply

Jennifer January 22, 2012 at 6:25 pm

On sat i bought the pantene that was clearanced at 2.00 and then b1g1 50 off and used the 3$ pantene coupon no problem.

Reply

Chris January 23, 2012 at 2:01 pm

So then, instead of calling corporate, who is only going to forward the message onto the store, why not go and talk to the manager? Cut out the middleman as it were.

Reply

rrashelle January 22, 2012 at 6:45 pm

You most certainly can use coupons on clearance. I would be calling corp on that.

Reply

sarrah j January 22, 2012 at 6:50 pm

was absolutely harassed by store employee Nicole at Bothell, Wa store. I have never had an issue and am so sad that it happened. Dont really know what to do. I was still shopping in cosmetics to check out last minute clearance while I over heard her questioning a womans return of a toaster “she had the same one of and cant believe it had a defect”. Belittling a customer is Nicoles MO because she soon looked into my cart and yelled over to me that I am not allowed to buy 3 of the Flurry bars. She continued to go on saying that she needs to save some for the rest of the customers (like i was buying them out with only 3 bars?!) and it clearly states in the ad 1 per customer, which it does not. Mind you I had my 11 year old daughter with me and try to set the proper example and bit my tongue. We left the cart in the aisle and left to another wags with no issues whatsoever and helpful guidance to the items on my list even. So do I call corporate? Will anything even be done? Waste of time or not?

Reply

Valencia January 22, 2012 at 7:18 pm

You should definitely call. Hopefully it will save someone else from having to deal with her antics.

Reply

Jennifer January 22, 2012 at 7:42 pm

The only 2 walgreens in my area have also put an 1 item limit on the Free after RR products. They are also very anti coupons, and have told me in the past I cannot use a coupon on the free after rr items.

Reply

Christie January 22, 2012 at 10:07 pm

I would call. It’s not about the (3) power bars it’s about how she spoke to you. I’m sure if she had been polite about it, it would have been different. And you had already heard her talking about another customer in front of you. That’s awful!

Reply

sarrah j January 23, 2012 at 12:30 am

Absolutely. If she would have been polite or anything but the way she behaved towards me it would have resulted in a different manor. I have bartended for 10 years and when you cut someone off its all about the approach. You get what you give. Whats funny is that they are 3/$5 but I can only purchase 1???

Reply

Guest January 22, 2012 at 10:17 pm

@Sarrah the way she spoke to you is definitely wrong, but you’re also setting a bad example for your daughter by making it seem okay to leave your cart in the middle of the store. :/

Reply

Christine January 23, 2012 at 12:01 am

Seriously? I would have shoved the cart right up Ole Nicole the sadist’s butt. Sara J definitely took the high road but just leaving the cart. Can you imagine putting the items back with the evil employee from hell watching?

Reply

sarrah j January 23, 2012 at 12:21 am

Hi ‘guest’ Im Sarrah Johnson. Your right. I should have put back all 3 bars and the 2 boxes of Triaminic fever reducer. Since we are being honest here I feel I should tell you once when my daughter was a toddler she was having an awful tantrum (as most tots do) I left the store with an entire cart full of groceries in the middle of the store! goodness how can I sleep at night? ๐Ÿ™‚

Reply

Guest January 23, 2012 at 6:05 pm

Hi @Sarrahj, that’s a wonderful story. I hope you know employees do actually have to put all that away before the end of the night, and maybe that’s why they’re rude to you.

Reply

kelly January 23, 2012 at 11:13 pm

Maybe thats why they are rude…. but they do get paid! I do not think that Sarrah should have had to put her cart away if she has to leave the store for ANY reason! She does not work at the store…My opinion!

? on Powerbars and Flurry update

Please clarify the PowerBar P&S — do you get a RR and a catalina when you buy 10? Have 0 catalinas for powerbars.

My Walgreens had a sign by the Flurrys 3/$5 or $1.99. It did note you would only receive one RR. I would complain to corporate.

Reply

Christie January 22, 2012 at 10:03 pm

Jan – You can read about the Power Bar RR HERE. The Catalina is random. It could print from just about anything – so there’s no way to know for sure.

Reply

Guest January 22, 2012 at 10:18 pm

@Jan why would you complain to corporate!?!? The regular price of the item is 1.99 or 3/$5. The writing above the tag clearly states “buy 1 or more”!

Reply

JoAnn January 23, 2012 at 9:50 am

I’m taking it as a reply to Sarrah as to how she was treated for having 3 bars in her cart, not as in anyone expecting to get multiple RRs for them.

Reply

Tammie H January 22, 2012 at 8:09 pm

if anyone has the $2.00 catalinas that have been recently printing out at walgreens for thermacare – just a heads up – it allowed me to use 2/$2.00 catalina coupons and still printed out my $5.00 RR – paid $7.98/2 and received 5RR and printed out another $2.00 catalina

I need paper towels. Any thoughts on the Nice! or Tuf towels at Walgreens? Both are on sale this week.

I have trouble finding deals so I never really have them stockpiled. I live in an area that does not double coupons. I usually just burn a few register rewards or extra bucks to ease the pain of buying them.

Reply

Lindsay S. January 23, 2012 at 12:52 am

Hi Cat! I have also used some RRs on these, especially when I had a moneymaker deal and needed to fill in a dollar or so on my transactions. I haven’t used the Nice! paper towels, but I have bought the Tuf ones and they’re very good. They’re not really very soft, but they get the job done for sure. I’m sure the Nice! ones are also very good as well, though, so I’m sure either would be good – but you can’t go wrong with the Tuf ones! ๐Ÿ™‚ HTH!

Reply

Cindy January 23, 2012 at 2:30 pm

I found the Tuf paper towels would not tear off easily. They may absorb ok but aren’t worth the fight to try and tear a sheet off.

I bought 10 P&S Powerbars and one Flurry on same transaction %6.99. Paid with $6 South Beach RR. Received $2 RR for Flurry and $2 RR for powerbars.

Why didn’t I also receive $2/10 catalina on this transaction?

Reply

Guest January 22, 2012 at 11:00 pm

When you spend the $2 RR you received for the powerbars it will print the $2/10 catalina.

I had to call corporate a couple of weeks ago after being accused of trying to run a scam by using internet coupons. The cashier was adamant in refusing the coupons, so I asked to speak to a manager. The cashier called the manager and she reiterated a “no printable coupon” policy even though I had a copy of the Walgreens coupon policy in hand that clearly states otherwise.

I called the Walgreens corporate office and questioned whether individual stores could go against the corporate policy that allows internet coupons. The answer was no. ALL Walgreens are supposed to adhere to corporate policy and individual stores MAY NOT alter the policy.

Within two hours I received calls from both a corporate VIP (apologizing profusely)and the store manger who refused my coupons in the first place. She said “Oh it was just a misunderstanding”. She invited me back to the store and re-rang my transaction allowing the coupons. But it was a traumatizing experience.

Ordinarily I would have cancelled the transaction and just left the store after my coupons were refused. But I was tired of being treated badly just for using coupons so I stood my ground. I shop in small transactions daily, so refusal of $2.00 in internet coupons adds up to $730 a year.

I would be thrown in jail if I tried to take $730 from a store and feel like I should stand up for my rights (in principle)and not have $730 (in theory) taken from me. I won’t be shopping at that particular Walgreens again. But I am very satisfied with the corporate response and hope the next customer using printable coupons at that store will benefit from my incident.

Good for you Bonnie!

I was at a store once when I was out of town, and the cashier was refusing to take the $1/1 huggies printable coupon this elderly gentleman in front of me was trying to use. I knew the coupon was legit and you could just tell this poor guy had been sent out by his wife for his daughter to buy some huggies for a grandchild.

So, I told the cashier she needed to call the manager, who then came over. After a long explanation he agreed to take the coupon, I practically gave him a 5 minute printable coupon class. The funny part was that he thought the huggies coupon was for me. LOL. So, he was quite surprised when he said “ok, I’ll ring up the Huggies in cosmetics” and I said – well, it’s not me – it’s for him. LOL. But the eldery man was very happy.

So, sometimes we hope our efforts pay off for someone else.

Great news!!! After emailing corporate yesterday regarding my Walgreens store refusing to reduce a $10 Rogaine coupon for a clearance $7.50 Rogaine product, my local Walgreens manager called me this morning to say that they certainly will accept the coupon. Thanks to all of you for your suggestion to contact corporate!

Reply

Chris January 23, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Next time, you should skip calling corporate and just talk to the manager when you are in there. Corporate had nothing to do with that manager’s decision to allow you that coupon.

Reply

Wendy January 23, 2012 at 4:03 pm

I did talk to the clerk’s supervisor. She said they could not reduce the coupon’s value. I went back later that day and the next supervisor told me they did not accept coupons on clearance items.

Chris, I’m afraid I have to disagree. I work retail for a large home improvement chain. No matter how ridiculous the customer’s reqest (or demand), i.e. ” I’ve only had this refrigerator for six years and I shouldn’t have to pay for a new light bulb or filter for it, you should provide it for free, even if I didn’t buy it here and I don’t have a receipt” (lol, but it really happens). If they call our corporate office not only will they get the light bulb and filter for free, we generally have to deliver it to them as well.
Many of our managers will only do what it takes to satisfy a customer, even when the customer is right, if they think the customer is going to call our corporate office. When a customer calls in a complaint, it is submitted via email to every manager in our store and the district manager and when at all possible, the issue is to be resolved within 24 hrs. A manger has to contact cust. and email corp. with details of conversation and how issue was resolved. I have heard my district manager say that unless it means paying out thousands of dollars that he better not have to handle a complaint because he is going to give them whatever they want to make them happy.Contacting corporate does work with most companies.

Good job Wendy!!

There was $4 Brainstrong vitamins on clearance, and I asked the manager how to use the $5 coupon from the Jan. booklet on the clearance item. She took the item to some computer near the back, and she said “you’re not allowed to use coupons on clearance items”. I was not in a good mood that day, so I didn’t even bother. Then I asked if she could write me a raincheck on the Ester-C Vitamin gummies that were B1G1 (there was only 1 left). She then goes “could you get me the item?”. I was like uhh sure *gets item in the way back of the store*. I come back and she goes “so how much is this?”. Then I go “7.99, b1g1 free”. And she goes “are you sure?” and starts ringing up the item. UHH WHY WOULD I EVEN LIE? Then she starts filling out my raincheck, and she doesn’t even write the price, nor their store ID#. I ask her to do it, and she gives me this “look”. My goodness I swear sometimes I have no clue how some people become “managers” at stores when even the cashiers know more or are friendlier/more reasonable. More blatantly sometimes who do you have to sleep with to get promoted? :/ I’m done with my rant lol.

Becky January 23, 2012 at 6:29 pm

It sounds like you work for who I work for. Calling “corporate” is like sayng you will go tell a childs parents with any company.

Melody January 23, 2012 at 7:10 pm

I used to call corporate every time I had problem with my Wags but soon I befriended the Asst. Manager and he told me that I always get their manager in trouble when I call corporate on them. But I haven’t called corporate on them lately. I just go directly to the Store Manager and ask my questions and he has always solved it. I think they know not to mess around with me. However their are a couple of store associates I don’t really like but I try to stay clear of them.

Reply

Wendy January 23, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Thanks everyone. I think my passive personality leads some cashiers/managers to believe I will accept whatever they say as true. Sometimes I think they think it’s “fun” to tell us “no”. Every time I do get a friendly, fast, and helpful cashier (which seems about 10% of the time), I tell them how wonderful they are.

Reply

Tee January 25, 2012 at 12:41 pm

That clearance rogain is a single count, the wags coupon is for the three count package thats why it would not work. They were wrong to treat you like that, but the computer was right not to take that coupon for that clearance item.

Just wanted to verify about the power bars. I bought 10 today and got the $2RR. Now, from what I have read, if I buy 10 more and use the $2RR, it will print a $2/10 catalina? But it won’t print another $2RR, right?

Reply

Judy January 23, 2012 at 10:54 pm

the first part is correct. When you USE the $2RR the coupon for $2/10 should print.

Reply

Judy January 23, 2012 at 10:56 pm

whoops, forgot to add. If you use the $2RR to buy more Powerbars…another $2RR will NOT print.. No roll and
no double dip.

I got a good deal on Osteo Bi-Flex–B1G1, and I used two 7.00 coupons off the 20.00 price. So I paid only 6.00 for the two bottles; 3.00 each is a good price. It really helps my joints!

Strange thing tonight…went to Wags to get the Thermacare deal, checked out and went to leave when I see the cashier wadding up stuff from the catalina…so I peek in my bag and ask politely if this wasn’t the type that was supposed to print the Register Reward. Cashier tells me “oh, I put it in there” and starts walking away. Well, he put the $2 coupon in there and was taking my $5 RR! He wadded it into the trash and said “oh, sorry, I was throwing that away”, and was joking and apologizing, but now I’m wondering if this is an honest ‘mistake’ or a systematic ‘behavior’. This was not my typical Walgreens but one across town….so should I let it go or should I call someone?
