Updates From The Field Thanksgiving Edition!

by Christie Bisbee on November 24, 2011

Today’s shop when remarkably well. My store had most of the items I wanted in stock. They were however limiting people to (2) FREE after Register Reward items per customer, not. That was fine by me, since I only did each deal once and it was fine for most other customers.

There was one woman who actually caused a scene. She had a cart FULL of the freebies, just totally clearing the shelves. I have seen her before at my store.Β  Well, when they limited her to (2) of each, she started screaming at the poor cashier. The cashier tried to explain that they wanted to have enough for everyone but the woman just kept screaming and finally threw a bunch of her items on the counter and stormed out, buying nothing.

I was SO glad she left, since it meant myself and the one other shopper looking for the deals would be able to actually buy something! Quite a scene though. The poor cashier then had to take this huge cart full of stuff and put it all back. Of course myself and the other shopper just went through the cart taking one of each of what we needed before she did. πŸ˜‰

Other than that ridiculous drama, the day went great!

Joyce,
Look on the right hand side of your redbox coupon. in the fine print it says Promo code expires 12/24/2011.

Thank you so much for pointing this out. I thought they were only good for today and we really didn’t want to watch a movie tonight.

I noticed the same thing…then I read i the fine print area that the actual promotion is only good for today but the expiration date to use the code is 12/24! Awesome because I got a ton!

I was shocked pulling up to our store that there were about 20 people lined up. Usually there are 3 to 4 of us that coupon on Sundays (two of us were there today). Thank goodness we were the only ones with coupons in tow ha ha. I got nearly everything, no limits on free after RR(s). There were a couple of rude folks and today I didn’t let anyone go in front. Did all 8 of my transactions in a row. Figure I normally do allow non couponers to go and wasn’t going to the back of a line with 15 people in it that were bum rushing the cashiers to get in. Limits are limits for whatever reason. Even though I had two helper elves today I still stuck with my typical 3 limit on things.

Daisy November 24, 2011 at 5:06 pm

So the Children’s Advil isn’t producing $3 RR anymore, just $.99 on both?

Reply

Mpayshnt November 24, 2011 at 8:22 pm

She isn’t referring to the Childrens/infants Advil. That is still a $3 RR. She means the 4 count Advil PM that’s a freebie. It prints as a .99 RR.

I should post my friends picture. She spent all night in Walgreens and saved over $3000. Only paid $76 I think

The first walgreens I went to limited in RR deals to one per customer, which I was fine with expect there were no signs posted. However, then I drove to a another Walgreens down the street who did not have any limits.

My redbox says expires 11/24 in the main part, but then it says promo code expires 12/24 in the corner, weird.

My shopping experience went very well. I went to a 24 hour store at around 2AM. They did not have any restrictions. There was another couponer in the store in front of me who was disorganized and did not let even regular customers step in between transactions. I on the other hand always step out of the way for other people. My cart was organized and ready to go. I did 4 transactions with anywhere from 4-6 items each in less than 10 minutes. The manager who was my cashier said I was very organized and thanked me for stepping to the side for other customers. Have a great Thanksgiving all.

Strange thing happened to me. When I tried to use the $1 Revlon coupon from the Walmart booklet, it would not scan. The manager explained that the coupon did not have a barcode. Thus, the store does not get credit for it. Anyone have this problem?

Reply

It didn’t scan for me either, but the cashier typed some digits in and it took the dollar off no prob.

I had a great trip, I saw the clearanced Revlon too!
I used most of my rewards on several bottles of A&H detergent and still ended up with $6 in rewards. It was mighty quiet in my Walgreens, I had no restrictions at that location, & not a soul in there but me at 6 am.
BTW – I literally LOL at the crazy shopper you told us about. Oh well, at least you got a good laugh and good deals.

Reply

Kelly Riley November 24, 2011 at 5:41 pm

My Walgreens did not take the Revlon coupon either, said it was because it was only for Walmart. Oh well, I didn’t care I still did really well and had a great trip. No limitations at my Walgreens but I only did 3 transactions.

Kristi November 24, 2011 at 5:59 pm

I went to Rite Aid first and when I pulled in I saw a long line outside the Wags across the street. When we left Rite Aid there were still tons of cars in the parking lot at Wags. We decided to go down the street to another Wags which only had a few cars in the lot, and they must have all been employees! They had tons of everything on the end caps and were not limiting anything. The employees were really helpful and it was a really good experience overall. I was able to get several of each deal and came nowhere near to clearing the shelves of anything.

My trip was NOT good!
They would not allow you to break up your transaction, so I had to pay for everything out of pocket. And then the manager said I couldn’t use the RR I earned until next week. This was about the tipping point of never shopping at walgreens again!!

Reply

Jennifer November 24, 2011 at 6:15 pm

My trip was awesome as well! My favorite cashier was working in the photo dept, so he rang me up. I was going to go to 3 different Wags because I had 12 transactions planned, but he insisted I just do them all there. My store was stocked except for the Crest TP. Ended up paying $15 OOP (with tax), still have $21 in RR, and saved $340 according to the receipts. The Revlon and Dentek Qs wouldn’t scan, but he pushed them through manually. Said something about the new barcode on them.

Thanks for the headsup on the RedBox codes…I was ready to throw them away!

What a funny story. I had a great time at my store. They had everything I was looking for and had no restrictions. I didn’t clear the shelves so others could get the same deal. Meet a fellow couponer who is new and helped her along the way. It was great and meet a new friend too! My oop 54/ 10rr left over and bought 384.00. I rolled most of my rewards toward the b1g1/2 off of the toys. Plus for every transaction I did I got the redbox as well. What a great day!

Reply

melissa November 24, 2011 at 6:39 pm

Nothing was marked , but I did find almost everything on the shelves. I was only buying one of each items, so I had no issues. I did 3 transactions and stepped aside after each so I didn’t cause a backup.

We are out of town, so I had to go to Walgreens I wasn’t familiar with. They didn’t have any tags out. Thankfully I had wrote everything down and had a plan. They had everything I wanted, and had no restrictions. I checked out at the cosmetics counter, and luckily the “coupon cashier” was working it! I was so glad. She was so sweet and didn’t care that I had 7 different transactions!

Great trip today. No limits, no crowds at 7am, and plenty of stock left for a 24 hour store. I spent 5.36 including my tax for 101 dollars in savings with 16.25 left in RR and I got a Diabetes booklet.

Beverly November 24, 2011 at 6:55 pm

My Walgreens was limiting the free items to only one per person. They tried to tell me I could only do one transaction too, but I talked to the manager about it and explained I wanted to roll me rr’s and he let me. I wouldn’t have bought all the stuff I had in my cart if I would have had to pay so much out of pocket for it without using my rr’s.

All went almost as planned πŸ™‚ went to a 24 hour store and everything was there- minus the floss picks lol. Nobody eas getting the A & H detergent sooooo my mom and in both got 3 πŸ™‚ I love this stuff. There were several shelf clearers who were actually hiding the gilette stuff, which I found lol. We accidentally bought the wrong culturelle, because it was in the same shelf. Manager exchanged it and gave us a refund. Other than that, it went really well. I had bigger savings at RA but still had fun at wags πŸ™‚

I did the 4 scenarios you posted and winged it on the 5th and everything went great! My store did not carry the Culturelle Digestive Health just the other one so I substituted with another SAME mood joint & bone for the first transaction. I did find Neutrogena mascara marked down to $4.29 where I used the store & 2$ off q so that worked out cooool:) Thank you for your wags & cvs sites, I used the scenarios there too. I was so nervous about it I couldn’t sleep they helped so much!! Happy Turkey Day! FYI the apple Itunes gc deal where u get 10 back was not working at my store:(

My Walgreens stopped accepting the Culturelle coupons ($3/1) because they said they weren’t geoing to get reimbursed for them. Anyone else hear this? Where did he get the idea they weren’t going to get reimbursed? I really hate seeing these go to waste.

I went to 2 Walgreens this morning in Dallas, TX. They both had signs up saying they weren’t accepting the Culturelle coupon. I was bummed, because I did print mine directly from their website.

I still had a great morning. I got everything else that I wanted and had a great time doing it.

This kind of stuff makes me very grumpy! The Culturelle coupon printed from the Culturelle site is just fine to use and will be reimbursed. So the “we won’t be reimbursed” line is just not true.

I wish stores like this would just tell the truth and stop blaming it on the manufacturers.

They aren’t taking it because either a manager or a district manager doesn’t want to take it. As management if you are going to make a decision like that – fine – but don’t be a chicken and blame someone else!

Culturelle will reimburse the coupons printed from their site. You can even see them address this exact issue on their facebook page. Maybe you should send them the picture of the sign at your store!

Well, I didn’t buy it. But I did see lots of couponers buying it anyway. They were bummed about their coupons not being accepted too. But we all moved on pretty quickly.

I know my coupons were completely real and not fake as I printed them directly from the company website. But maybe there is no way to distinguish a fake one from a real one.

Reply

Jane November 25, 2011 at 3:00 pm

I didn’t print this coupon myself so don’t know if it is a PDF. If it is they probably aren’t taking them because of so many people “snipping” coupons. That’s saving a coupon to their computer and then after the manufacturer takes it off the website they keep printing it even though the manufacturer has reached it’s limit. I know I see this posted quite a bit on this website …people asking for PDF files of coupons that are gone off the site. (no reflection on you Christie…I know you don’t encourage or approve of this dishonesty). Although if it’s still on their website I say bring it up on your phone and show it to the manager. If it’s not still there then you have to pay the price for people being dishonest.

Walgreens can contact there sorting center (where they send all there coupons) and ask about the reinbursment if there so iffy about getting paid. I know my manager had doubts about it and as a couponer myself i made him call. And they do get reinbursed.

I had fun shopping at Wags today. Got there at 9:30 am and felt like I was on an Easter Egg Hunt. The Wags had a bunch of RR items co-located at the end caps which eventually made shopping easier. Got everything that I needed and use except for the toothbrushes. After shopping at Wags with RR for the past 10 months, I finally ran into another RR shopper. I was able to help her out and verify that the toothbrush she grabbed was the wrong kind and gave her tips that Wags like to place items in the strangest places, like toothpaste display by the fridge section and dental floss in a random aisle hanging on the plastic clips.

My store was so nice to me, they gave me about 2#s worth of leftover coupons and said I was the most gracious couponer they have every week, every one else bitches! Believe it or not, my store has no clue till sunday at 9am of sales and I even gave the clerck, my fav coupons and the helped the manager pick out lip gloss color for her purchase. They even gave me a clue on unadvtised deals register rewards, coupons & deals!

Wild about my WAGS CREW! Happy Thanksgiving Waalgreens!

I got two transactions done at one wags around midnight last night, and then one more transaction done this afternoon around 3pm.. everything was still stocked, our city is a zombieland now lol… the first wags I went to had a super stock of everything… i might go back tomorrow just for the gum toothbrushes cuz they are so supersoft!

My kids and I had a great time at our Walgreens. The Register Reward deals were well stocked and many had been grouped together on an end cap. Two of the store’s assistant managers even asked us where to find the Nutralife SAMe, and we knew! lol!

However, when we went back to the store to use some of our RR stash, my youngest daughter and I were informed at checkout that the assistant manager in charge had changed the store policy and Register Rewards obtained earlier today couldn’t be used until tomorrow or the next day.

My nine year old came home in tears; she had been buying Christmas presents with her Register Rewards. We left and were thankful for all the things we had gotten earlier.

A while later a phone call to corporate (yes, they answered the phone today) confirmed that it is not part of Walgreens policy to restrict the use of Register Rewards in the above manner. We were told that our store would be contacted regarding this, and we should hear back from Walgreens in two business days.

I did the Revlon deal this morning, using only the Make This Season Stunning booklet & the $4 RR printed just fine. When I went back to the same Wags do a few more Revlon deals for my sisters later this evening, the RR wouldn’t print. The manager gave me the mail-in form – I just thought it odd that it changed within 12 hours.

And they totally let me roll my RRs – no prob.

Had a good day at Wags. Despite the fact that they opened at 8:30 instead of 9, I was able to do multiple transactions and get what I wanted. I did 14 transactions (5, 7, 2) over the course of the day. I spent $41.71 oop, saved $273.14, and have $59.50 in RR. I decided to add the Right Guard, Advil PM, and more Cortaid and Thermacare when I got there after seeing the group of women filling 5 carts with various items. I’m going back tomorrow even though they won’t have much left. The mgr. said what you see is what we have. Oh well, we’ll see what tomorrow brings:)

and then they held up the line for me, and everyone else for 2 hours. only 1 person working at the time. they would not let anyone else go between thier 20 transactions! they were rude and unorganized. lots of customers walked out and left things behind cuz of them!

during my transactions the venus rr was printing for $5.50 and it was rolling with the gillette and secret rr for $5.50….yay!

My trip was AWESOME! My store limits to 4 per sale item which is about right and I always stick to it. I even got there a little late and there was still tons of stuff left. I got everything on my list and even decided to grab some of the razors. This was a donation trip to go with the freebies trip I made to Walmart to donate to our local foster homes. I calculated my numbers a bit ago and it was retail $666.77 for an OOP of $62.98!

My local Walgreens opened at 9AM and had combined many of the RR deals on end caps, however most sales tags were not up yet. Good thing I had your shopping scenarios in hand. It was also helpful that they had a shopping cart filled with $.10 bags of left over candy corn I was able to use as filler items πŸ™‚ I also had to point out to a neighboring cashier that the Redbox code was valid thru December as she told another customer that it was good “today only”. Overall a nice trip, surprisingly not crowded and was able to find all of the items I wanted!

Frustrated Newbie November 25, 2011 at 2:19 am

Today was my first attempt with couponing at Walgreens. I spent a long time getting everything ready. I went to the first store and had a great experience. I actually found a shelf with several RR items grouped together.

The second store was a disappointment. Many shelves were already cleared, which I understand happens. One worker must have seen that I was confused and asked what I was looking for. When I told her about the toothpaste, she said that there were some in stock in the back and was nice enough to ask me if I was looking for anything else. I mentioned the Thermacare wrap.

I followed her to the front, and she went to a cabinet type thing under the register. The person working the register snapped at her, but my helper said that she was looking to make sure that there weren’t any neck Thermacare wraps there. The cashier said that there was only the menstrual kind (I guess the other option), but I did not need one of those. My helper went to a side door and brought out the toothpaste. I picked up a few more items and went to check out.

I do want to point out that the store was the only one in line, and I only had four items. When I went to use my RRs, the cashier told me that they were not accepting RRs purchased today because it wouldn’t be fair to the other customers. I didn’t think that was right, but did not know any better and left.

When I got to my car, I realized that she only used two of the coupons that I gave her and threw the other two in the drawer by the register without using them. This upset me. I went back inside and interrupted her purchasing RR items in the photo department. The cashier at the photo department told her he would finish her transaction so that she could go to the front to handle the coupon errors with me.

Three gripes with this cashier:
1. The information she gave me regarding the RRs was incorrect (after reading this board I understand that I would have needed filler items, but because I went on her statement, I now have about 15 RRs from my trip to 7 different Walgreens today- I was very careful to only take one of each item at each store).
2. She missed not one but TWO of my coupons.
3. I don’t have proof, but I suspect she was hoarding some of the RR items for her own personal purchase.

How would you handle this situation?

Reply

Christie November 25, 2011 at 3:55 am

I would call corporate and let them know how you were new to Register Rewards and very disappointed at how things went at that store.

I had a very successful run at my favorite WG with my fav. cashier at the cosmetics counter today. I went with my cousin, so we essentially both purchased the same items, and performed the same coupon usage, and paid almost the same amounts.

My store was VERY well stocked, and had cartloads more of the “free” goods on the back page of the ad in their storeroom.

The manager was nice enough to let me use the .39 Tuf Paper towels as my “filler” items! (limit 3) There were a LOT of the Tuf paper towels in my store. I left with 10 Tuf paper towels as fillers (and so did my cousin). Even though that was 20, the shelves w/ Tuf towels looked untouched.

I rolled the Colgate and the Cortaid RRs and purchased 4 of each. There were still at least 30+ of each item, so I don’t think anyone can say I wasn’t being “fair”.

Reading through the comments above, I feel bad that some encountered some unfriendly couponers/shoppers. Luckily instead of performing all my transctions at once, my cousin and I let people in line go next. We met and talked to some other couponers in line as we grabbed some more stuff to put in our cart as we waited in line.

I will try again tomorrow to see if I can score some more toothpaste and toothbrushes so I can start donating them.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and congratulations on the deals you got! And also thanks to Christie for everything she does!

I went to 3 stores. 2 of them were fantastic, had tons of stock and all of the free after RR items grouped together on endcaps. It was fabulous to get everything in one spot and not have to go all over the store. All of my cashiers were wonderful. The last store I went to has only been open a few months and the young female cashier was so friendly & excited by the great deals I was getting, when I finished she said, “You are so organized, that was the best shopping trip I have ever seen.” It made my hours of planning totally wprth it.

I ended up paying $20 OOP & ending with $20 in RR’s.

I have….$20 in Walgreens gift cards

i did the ponds deal at 2 different locations….1st tranaction, i got the citrus ones and the basic ones. i got back a $1 RR after the buy 1 get 1 free and wags coupon came off. weird, cuz the second time i bought 2 citrus towelettes (free samples attached to them), it printed a $2 RR. not sure why, but i got the 2 exact same citrus ones that time…maybe that’s why?

I bet that’s it! I bought the regular ones and didn’t get the $2 RR. I bet it was the Citrus Ones that are producing the RR! πŸ™‚

If you look closely at your Oct 27 post, it shows the 3 ponds items https://wildforwags.com//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////register-rewards/2011/10/27/ponds-monthly-register-reward-deal/. That’s why the regular ones didn’t produce RR even though it said “any”. πŸ˜‰

Yes because I tried another transaction with the plain one and citrus and only got a 1RR. The first time I mixed lavender and citrus and got the 2RR. The plain ones are obviously not producing any RR

I went to my favorite wags first (I went to school with the mananger =) and there was 2 ladies with about 5 carts worth of stuff blocking one of the aisles. They asked if I needed by and I said no but I am embarrassed for you and walked out. I went to another and they had everything!

Went this evening and most stuff was still there, except for the toothbrushes-of course the one thing I really was looking for!

I headed out this morning, prepared to go to all the Walgreens in a 30 mile radius to get stocked up on everything. I read here that people were having trouble finding items, so I was not expecting great success. I was so surprised, that the first Walgreens I went to had tons of EVERYTHING except for the Cortaid. Even bigger surprise was that the lady working in cosmetics encouraged me to “get as much as you want, as long as you don’t mind doing multiple transactions”. She said she had ordered tons and wanted it out of there by tomorrow. lol. Are you kidding me? I was thrilled. I ended up doing about 15 transactions, and getting about $350 worth of merchandise for around $30. There was still tons of most everything when I left.

Oh, and what’s with the Redbox codes? Where were they at? I didn’t see anything on any of my receipts.

Cheryl – great store! Woo Hoo! The Redbox codes were only for the first customers at each store yesterday.

More clarification on the Redbox codes. In the back of the ad, it said first 130 customers at each Wags store… promotion begins 12:01 am 11/24/11 and ends 11:59 pm 11/24/11. I wouldn’t be surprised if a bunch of people threw the freebie away :(. Luckily I noticed it immediately and even got a $2 off catalina for the Thermacare 2 count or larger size, which I got after purchasing the neck one, but not the menstrual.

Yes, you are right I bought 5 Therma Care, 2 were the menstrual ones and the other 3 were the neck, wrist and shoulder. I have 3 Q of $2 off , actually I wanted the neck item but the second store I went they only had the menstrual one. I’ll guess you can place them any where they are only heat patches. Thanks Heavens I do not suffer from menstrual pain so yes I will use those for my neck hahaha (just cut them to shape)…

My Wags Trip was awesome as all of you. I started with $47RR and spend OOP $38.14 (my saving undetermined will continue shopping today hahaha). Here in Puerto Rico they had a deal of LOREAL for $5 each (very few Loreal products did not apply to this offer) up to 10 products per customer. I bought my 10 (mostly powder $12.49 and foundation $14.49) used the $1 IVC, 6 MQ of $2, 4 MQ of $1 and $23.25 of RR as filler items used 9 x-mas bags for .12 and an eye shadow for $2.99 (the one on special) I spend OOP $9.22 and got a free Loreal cosmetic bag. Could have save more on the transaction because three of my bags were scan at regular price and could have used higher amount of RR but I wanted to get rid of the ones with the lower amount. I’ll guess I was the one with the best deal that day. The cashiers were mad at me because they were saying that I shouldn’t be allow to use Q’s since it was a Mega Deal offered by Loreal. If they would have been nice I could have share my Q’s with them TOO BAD!!!

Now I have $60.50 RR and yes you guess it today I will be doing more shopping but to stores I haven’t visited. Thanks everyone for posting your findings.

So I thought I would share my shopping trip to Walgreens yesterday. I printed the $1.00 coupon for the thermacare. It says 2 count but scans on the 1 count that is $2.49 with $2.50 in RR. After you purchase 1 (not the menstral ones) the register prints out a coupon for $2.00/one thermacare product. with a $2.50RR… Making the total $.70 out of pocket and $2.50in RR. Big profit. I bought 31 of and will be donating them. I ended the day spending $33 and receiving $125 in RR…good couple of weeks of grocery shopping I would say.

DId you use the 2ct Thermacare MQ on the 1ct by mistake? The store wont get reimbursed for taking 2ct coupons on the 1ct products.

My friend who works at wags said a lady went in and bought 3 cartloads full of freebies, even making the comment she wasn’t going to use half the stuff and she just wanted to register rewards :/ I know people donate, etc., etc., but thats no excuse to go clean out the store. I bought things myself (yay for thermacare menstrual! A &h detergent! Colgate!! Gilette fusion for gifts for all my dudes lol!!) and my mom and other family members (culturelle is a life saver lol) will use. NOT just for the rr’s. It’s why I avoid wags like the plague, unless there’s a great deal. Oh well, I guess my goal is to only worry about myself and my loved ones πŸ™‚
