Walgreens Updates From the Field 8/14!

by Christie Bisbee on August 14, 2011

Here are a few updates from my trip to hopefully help your trip go a bit smoother…

DOVE DEAL
Here’s a deal where we can take lemons and make lemonade!

The Dove is going to ring up $4.49 for the first (3) and then $1.53 for the last one. Again, totally ridiculous (in my opinion). However, because the coupon is for a FREE treatment we can make it work.  Just be sure to have your cashier scan the treatments FIRST. That way both treatments will ring up for $4.49 each. The coupon value is up to $6, so no problems there. 😉

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (2) Dove Treatments SCAN FIRST $4.49 each
(1) Dove Shampoo or conditioner $4.49
(1) Dove Shampoo or conditioner $1.53
Total = $15
(2) -B1G1 Dove Treatment, Any 1 FREE WYB Shampoo Or Cond., Any (ETS & 40 Oz) – 07-31-11 RP x8/28 (Takes off $4.49 x 2)
Total = $6.02, Get Back $5 Register Reward
= $.26 EACH

EXPO MARKERS
I had no problem stacking the (2) coupons for the Expo Markers. Please remember however, that you must give the MQ FIRST if you want to avoid any problems.

Also, I suggest not buying the markers by themselves, unless you have an awesome cashier who actually knows what they are doing and knows to adjust the coupon down. The total for (2) sets of markers comes out to $7.98 and after the $2/2 and the $3/1 that leaves you negative $.02. So you’ll need something else in your order to absorb the $.02 overage.

Again, according to policy they would just adjust the coupon down and you’d be able to get two free. However, finding a cashier who follows coupon policy in this regard is a little like finding a black pearl.

REVLON DEAL
If you have the Revlon Walgreens coupon from the 07-24-11 SS, I had no problems there. However, all the $1/1 MQs beeped for me. It’s the right coupon but just beeping whether I used the Wags coupon or not. Which is really ironic because it has a bunch of nail polish pictured on it! Hopefully your cashier will put it through for you.If not you’ll still have a $1 Money Maker with just the Walgreens coupon.

Find any great deals? How was your shop? Let us know! :-)

I used the BOGO womens/mens deod. Dove coupon and used it on a BOGO men’s pack. So, I really got 3 for the price of 1. As far as my BOGO coupons, they adjusted it so one was at $4.49 and one at $3, which I think is totally fair. So with my 5 items, I was right at 50c per item.

Sue August 14, 2011 at 3:01 pm

On the dove deal, I did have him scan the treatments first and he still only took off $1.53 for the 2nd BOGO. So I had a manager come up
And said she would take off $3.75 each since that’s what they
Come out to be at 4/$15. Oh well still a good deal

This was a total fluke for me. I didn’t see your post before I went this morning, but the cashier just happened to ring them up like this. He took off $4.49 for both coupons which was an even more awesome deal than I was looking for. Thanks for all you do Christie!

I got 4 of the Revlon polishes (I’m a nail polish junkie), and didn’t get my RR for the first transaction, the coupons also gave me issues for trans #1, but they pushed them through. I ended up getting a $3 GC instead (which I’d prefer anyway). I had about $40 worth of RR that were expiring today so I had to wander around the store for a while trying to figure out what else to get. Ended up buying milk, eggs, and two large cans of Enfamil LIPIL on clearance for $13.24 (normally over $20 a can).

Judy August 14, 2011 at 10:54 pm

Hi Lisa
Does your Walgreens let you use RR for milk? Mine won’t allow milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt because of the dairy exclusion listed on it.

Reply

Rebecca August 15, 2011 at 8:57 am

Judy – the RR state that you can’t use them on milk, but i’ve found as long as you have non-milk items in your order you can use milk as a “filler” and the RR still work. But if all you purchased was milk then no the RR can’t be used in that transaction

SLC, Utah – My Omega coupon beeped, but they put it through. Also revlon MQ beeped too, even when I had them scan it before the Wags coupon. But they put that one through too. No problem with the markers, was even able to get the finer point too!
Skinny Cow Candy was on sale for $49 each, reg $79, and you might have a BOGO MQ, so two for $49, not free, but yummy!

It’s very interesting how different the manufactuer coupons can be in the Sunday papers. I had coupons for buy a womens deo and get the men’s free. So it rang up 3 at $4.49 then the 4th at $1.53, but I was lucky the clerk took off two of the $4.49 making my total $1.02 for the four items. I love Wild for Wags, I used to come home from work and check my email now I check the website. (I live in northern Wisconsin and I have a great Walgreens).

Thats such an awesome deal!!! you are really lucky to have a walgreens close to you thats so cool

Victoria August 14, 2011 at 3:14 pm

Thanks for the update. My Walgreens which is normally fabulous was not well stocked this morning. Shelf Clearing wasn’t to blame as that really isn’t a problem where I live due to the fact we have probably 15 walgreens in the metro area. No reach floss i did the oral b deal instead, no colgate tooth paste so did a razor deal instead, the pert deal is actually good on a larger size even though the small size was marked with the RR glad i compared the sizes. Got to the check out and my revlon coupon beeped. The cashier went ahead read the coupon then put it through. The cashiers all know me and in fact will ask me about how good the deals are this week. The cashier actually commented on how the pert deal was a good one. Total oop $1.47 using rr from last week with 12 RR to use for next week. Thanks for everything – Love this site!!

I also used the BOGO for the Deodorant. I found a double mens pack so I ended up getting 3 deodorants and 2 hair care products for $1. YAY!!!

Reply

Alisa August 14, 2011 at 3:32 pm

Same here! I got the last two double packs.

Reply

Megan August 14, 2011 at 6:01 pm

So did you use 1 B1G1 deo and 1 B1g1 Hair care q’s?

Reply

alyssa August 14, 2011 at 3:17 pm

ya lol. i worked at walgreens and i know their policy, but i had that problem today buying bic pens. they are on sale for 99 cents but ringing up for 69 cents. had a $1 off coupon and the manager doesn’t like adjusting the price down so she wouldn’t let me use the coupon. i still got a great deal on the pens, so i didn’t argue as i usually would, but yes, it is their policy that they can price down the manufacture coupons. but i didn’t have any issue with the expo markers which is a miracle at this walgreens lol.

Reply

Dawn August 14, 2011 at 3:33 pm

why would the managers have an issue w/ pricing down the coupons if it is the corporate policy to do so? I don’t understand, how does this effect them in the long run? thanks…

Reply

Lori M. August 14, 2011 at 4:31 pm

It doesn’t affect them at all. If the adjust a $1.00 Q to .69c they still get the $1.00 back. They are the ones that get to make the extra money. All the cashiers I deal with make sure I get the full amount of the Q even if it exceeds the price of the product! Good luck with your shopping adventures!!

My favorite cosmetic cashier told me that she will receive a monetary bonus for every Dove deal she sells on Saturday, August 20. I decided to take my chances on stock and wait until Saturday do to the deal in order to help her out. Not sure if the Saturdate programs are the same everywhere but wanted to share this info just in case.

I went to two different Walgreens. The first one is newer, and they used newer cashier machines. The second one is old, they never update anything. But! The first place didn’t take off 4.49 twice. They charged me like they were suppose to…unfortunatly. Luckly, the second walgreens did. So just fyi. Chi-Town Rocks!

I asked the Manager at my Walgreens about the Dove deal, and he said that it was only on Saturday. I dont think he knew what he was talking about. Im kind of hesitate to do this deal

Reply

Joelle August 14, 2011 at 10:30 pm

I didd the dove deal 2x today… totally works, go for it 🙂 The revlon deal beeped on the MQ, manager said that nail polish is NOT a color cosmetic AND they took my walgreens revlon Q!!!

Reply

Jenny August 14, 2011 at 11:07 pm

I had two Walgreens revlon Q’s. I went to two stores and both of them took them. Are they not supposed to? Now that I think of it, they never take the ones in the ads…they just scan them. That bites. :o)

Reply

Jan August 15, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Yep, they took my Walgreens Revlon coupon also—Bummer! They said it was a “newspaper issued” Walgreens coupon and had to be collected just like a manufacturers coupon. I have never heard of such a thing. A Walgreens coupon is a Walgreens coupon. I figured since they knew it was a money maker coupon, they decided to collect them.

Reply

Cathy August 15, 2011 at 10:13 pm

Mine told me the same thing. Didn’t get my RR for my Dove deal, and they didn’t ring up at 4/$15. I m trying to teach my hubby how this works, so I was too busy talking to him to pay attention. My bad! The manager also told me the Dove deal was only on Saturday. Wish I had the number to call about the RR.

Reply

Lindsey August 14, 2011 at 3:44 pm

I totally lucked out. When I got home I realized my cashier took off $5.99 each for the Dove treatments. I ended up making money after the RR.

The $5 RR for Hershey candy can only be used on your next Hershey purchase (as stated in the ad), so be careful if you plan to roll this one.

Reply

Betsy August 14, 2011 at 5:23 pm

Also have a question about using this $5RR. Do you have to purchase $5 of Hershey products for it to work?

Reply

Jenny August 14, 2011 at 11:16 pm

I’m curious about this as well. I just went ahead and used it on two more bags. with the coupons I had it worked out to about 1.66 a bag. Not as great as the Dove bags I totally missed last week, but I guess you can’t win ’em all. :o)

Reply

KIM August 14, 2011 at 5:10 pm

I have gotten to know the cashiers very well at my Walgreens and even though they rang at $1.53 she gave me the $4.49 for each one. So I made out even better. Overall spent $49 oop and saved $245. Still have $18 in rewards for next week! I think this was my best trip so far.

Rie August 14, 2011 at 5:13 pm

If I use a RR on the Dove deal, will I still need a filler item? I am never sure if a BOGO coupon is coded to link to 2 items or just the treatment. TIA

Reply

Monica August 14, 2011 at 6:06 pm

Yes a BOGO is linked to both items so you’ll need a filler!

Reply

Sean August 14, 2011 at 9:23 pm

A coupon coded with a 14 as the last 2 digits in the barcode attach to both items… at every store I’ve been to accept Walgreens. You can use up to two RR on the deal. I used a -$1 Dove hair care from All You magazine as well as a $4 RR on the deal earlier today with no beepage.

It looks like Revlon Nail Polish Coupons are regional. I didn’t get it this week and no Walgreens Coupon (7/24 insert)for me. Don’t want to complain because I did get 4 packs of free Dry erase Markers (6 markers in each pack). My Store’s limit was 4(the Circular doesn’t say anything about the Limit but my Store’s manager had apparently set limit of 4 pks/person per day.I did 2 transactions I bought something else each time I did the Transaction for the Markers so that the high value coupons don’t put me in trouble and absorbs the overages too even if it not much. I’m happy.

Great trip today! My Walgreens was well stocked except Expo markers, they only had 2 of the large tip, but lots of the fine tip markers. They were also out of the Reach Floss which is a bummer because I had 2 $1/1 that had printed from the catalina machine in previous weeks. But I was expecting it, because they always seem to be out of the Reach floss!

I had a question about the revlon deal do they keep the wags coupon of the revlon nail polish? Also, my MQ’s beeped also but pushed them through.

my MQ beeped too but they did NOT let me use it and YES they kept my revlon WAGS Q

Melissa August 15, 2011 at 12:43 am

I don’t understand why all the stores are having such trouble with the Revlon coupons. I especially don’t understand why they wouldn’t accept it for the nail polish ESPECIALLY because it has nail polish pictured on the coupon….that’s ridiculous!

Reply

dina August 14, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I also accidentally got the Dove deal right – my cashier was young and excited for me when my RR’s came out. The way it looks on my receipt though is that they charged me for 3 of the Dove products at 4.49, then the last one at 1.53 and then took off 4.49 twice. So that’s about $1.50 apiece? That could have worked out better for me.

The only thing that’s been driving me crazy all day is that at the second wags, my Pert RR did not print. I did not use RR’s to pay in that transaction (already had the same number of coupons and items) and instead, I got a random catalina for Fashion Bug.

Reply

Lynn August 14, 2011 at 6:45 pm

Dina, if they took off $4.49 twice, that’s $9 (rounded). You paid $4.49 + $1.53 ($6.02) and then got $5 RR. Taking the RR into consideration, that means you paid $1.02 for 4 products which is about .26 each, right? That sounds like a fabulous deal to me! If that’s how it was (I could have read it wrong), then you did great!

Reply

dina August 14, 2011 at 9:52 pm

Oh duh, you are right. Yes, I got 5 RR’s back, so yeah, I got four things of hair product for a little over a dollar. Which is what I was trying to do, lol, but sometimes when I come home and go over my receipts I get myself all confused. Thanks.

Reply

denise August 14, 2011 at 10:59 pm

If convenient, you may want to take your receipt back to the store. I have not received RRs on a few deals that I didn’t realize until I got home (usually on my “bigger” shopping trips). Each time I have taken my receipt back to the store and the Manager has printed the RR out for me.

Reply

Regena August 14, 2011 at 6:58 pm

You can try calling the catalina company

andrea jones August 14, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Did you get the small bottles or the large? I beleive that the ad says the 25.4 ounce ones. This is what I got and I did receive my RR first thing this morning.

anyone know if they small bottles are working as well?

Reply

Julie August 14, 2011 at 9:37 pm

The small bottles of Pert did not work for me this morning, so I returned it….got a big one and got my RR.

Reply

dina August 14, 2011 at 9:51 pm

You have solved the mystery! For some reason I thought the two bottles I got at the two different stores were the same size, since the Pert bottles are identical among different sizes you know? But I just checked and you are totally right, I got a smaller one the second time. I’m just glad the mystery has been solved!

In trying to save time, I cut both my inserts from two different newspapers at the same time a few weeks ago and accidently cut the expiration date off the top of one of my Dove coupons and didn’t notice until I tried using it today. 🙁 Lesson learned! lol

Reply

andrea jones August 14, 2011 at 7:30 pm

here is a quick tip I learned on that extreme couponing show. After tearing you ads apart and stacking them together to cut, staple in 3-4 places where the coupons are not. this keeps them from slipping and sliding around. I won’t say that it is 100% reliable but works really well!

Reply

Jenny August 14, 2011 at 11:14 pm

Ugh…I feel your pain. I’ve done that before. I still clip them at the same time but I’m a nervous wreck when there isn’t much space between them.

I’m so happy! Good deals, few “issues”, great, flexible cashiers, no limits, great stock and very little “competition” (did they all take the day off???) I wish every Sunday was like this; I’m rarely this happy after a couponing trip.

Reply

Beth August 14, 2011 at 7:33 pm

SO I assume if I use the bogo deodorant ones that I should do the men’s first (just like the hair treatment) because it is what you’re getting ‘free’? I’m just hoping my transactions go smoothly tomorrow.

Dove mm for me after rr and q’s. I bought 2 womens deodorant and 2 men+care double packs. I used (2) b1g1 q’s and (2) $1.00 printed q’s. I got paid $1.00 for buying a total of 6 deodorants. It’s great to get paid for shopping.

So with the comments on the dry erase markers, will any of them work? I thought the IVC was for the washable only? Just curious as the washables were all gone at my store

Reply

Denise August 14, 2011 at 10:20 pm

They were gone at my store also, so I ask the manager if I could substitute the 4 pack regular, and they said yes, they just price modified each to $1, so I could use my $2/2 coupon.

Reply

Clare August 14, 2011 at 10:55 pm

No markers at my store, but I saw someone say once that their Walgreens restocks on Fridays. Anyone know if they are all the same that way, or if I should even hope they will get more? I tried two in our area (Colorado Springs) and just don’t know if it is worth it to drive around to anymore. I did do the Dove deal, though-it is my favorite shampoo, so $0.26 each was a fabulous price. Wish I had more coupons!;)

Reply

Jenny August 14, 2011 at 11:48 pm

It varies by store. Just ask the manager when they get their truck in and if they think they’ll be getting more.

I had an “issue” at the first Walgreens I went to today (which turned out to be a blessing). I spent extra time figuring my oop expenses before I went because of RR that expired today. I purchased a total of 11 items (2 Expo, 2 Scope, 1 Pert and 6 Trident gum). I was only able to use 8 MQs. The cashier even called the Manager over (no help of course). They tried to tell me that since the Expo MQ was off of 2 items that it counted as 2 coupons. The Walgreens Expo coupon also rang up as a MQ. I wound up paying more oop than I wanted but it prompted me to go to a second Wags as I HAD to use my $5 RR! There I found a pack of Huggies diapers on clearance for $3 (free after the $3 MQ!), I bought 2 more Expo and 3 boxes of Mac&Cheese. No problem there using my RRs. All in all a good Walgreens day.

Reply

Joelle August 14, 2011 at 10:59 pm

When doing the BOGO for dove hair and dove deodorant, can you also use another dollar off Q to reduce the price even further? I was surprised by another post allowing her to do this. Is this do-able or was she just lucky? I have to say, “you go sister!” I should have done that this morning whit my dove deals 🙂

Reply

Amber August 14, 2011 at 11:08 pm

What products are considered “treatments” for the Dove coupon?

Reply

Jennifer August 14, 2011 at 11:40 pm

Did anyone try to use the Stayfree BOGO and BOGO coupon on the smaller sizes? The ad in the newspaper says 24-48 count packages, but the tag in the store says it’s only for the $6.79+ packs. Just wondering if the $3+ packages are working so they’d be free with the coupons.

Yes you can – however the MQ is a beeper, so hopefully you won’t have an issue. They should put it through for you.

Oh! The horror!! I messed up, kinda. So I purchased 4 shampoo/conditioner + 2 treatments because I figured I wouldn’t get the RR unless I actually spent the 15 (didn’t think the freebies would count).

Do you think they will let me take the two back? I guess its still a good deal but I sure wish I would have looked at this before I left the house!!!!

Just an FYI, that Revlon coupon has beeped everywhere I try to use it (Target, CVS, etc) and everywhere has just pushed it through. No matter what it says on the coupon it always beeps for the nail polish. There was even one a while back that showed a picture of the nail polish and it still beeped! I think it is just a Revlon thing.

I was upset the Walgreens I went to for the Dove deal the woman would only take off the $1.53 and the $4.49 for the bogo coupon. I said to her, technically these are 4/$15 so the $3.75 should be taken off…but she normally works in the photo (they were short handed at the registers) and she said that she had to go by what was on the receipt 🙁 Still a good deal, but could have been better! oh and at my walgreens I saw Dentek flossers are Bogo, I left my coupons at home, but I am gonna go back to get the $1/1 coupon to use on them! Will make for 40 cents per package!

Christy,

I went to my local Wags with the coupon from their book, and read it carefully, took it with the $2 off 2 expo markers. I was instructed that I could not use the Wags coupon for the $3 off because it states one per customer. so I got them for 99 cents, but could not use the $2 off 2 with the coupon to make them free. Happy that I got some for 99 cents but bummed that I could not use 2 off them.

EXPO MARKERS-
My store only had the 4 or 5 packs, but the Aug Wags coupon book says “6 count”. Does anyone know if the other packs work as well?
Thanks-

Mel August 17, 2011 at 11:10 pm

@Julie, I just went thru this today b/c my store was sold out.

They would not allow substitutions…which kind of surprised me. They were clear it had to be the ones on the coupon. The “Washable Dry Erase markers”, 6 count.

Since I’ve 4 other Walgreens within a few miles, it was no big deal. The Walgreens people I work with are so great I like to stay on a friendly basis and not push things, so I didn’t ask for a manager.

If the other stores are also sold out, I may request a substitution. Often if things are sold out a manager okays a substitution.

So give it a go and ask a manager if you can substitute, the worst they can say is no. Then, just get a raincheck. 🙂

Just learned at the second Walgreens I stopped in for the Expo markers that the 3/1 coupon will be counted as a separate coupon for each item it reduces the price, i.e. purchased 6, and this counted as 6 mfr Qs so had to add 3 filler items to use the other 3 2/2 Qs. But it still worked out favorably.

Reply

Minerva August 15, 2011 at 4:42 pm

If I buy two items, can I use two coupons even if one of my Q’s says $1/2.

Reply

Mel August 17, 2011 at 10:17 pm

@Minerva ~ No, not in my experience. If you read the writing on the coupon, it spells it out…that you are allowed only one coupon.

Only if it is a WAGs coupon can you add it to your MFR $1/2.

That’s been my experience. Anyone whom has had a different one, please correct me. 🙂

I tried this dove deal…had 2 BOGO, and also picked up 2- .50 cents off MQ from beauty department basket. Went through the first time, and cashier gave me $4.49 off/2…so made them free, except for tax. Went back, and a different cashier only gave me $4.49 and $1.51 (whatever the amount was) off. It makes no sense to me why they ring up so funny even whey stated 4/$15!!!! I still got them. I wanted to do 2 deals but wanted to go to the other cashier with my second deal. Of couse the BA talked to my earlier cashier tellin them they did it “wrong”, so I just left and did not do my second transaction. I guess I should ask the store manager when I see them, what I can do in the future.

Beatrice F. August 15, 2011 at 6:08 pm

I can understand all the frustration as I’ve encounted many problems ie transactions not working right, being told locally how I can and can’t use my coupons, and leaving Wags MENTALLY exhausted! Note to Walgreens, PLEASE DON’T make it essy to spend my money at your store and keep you in business”! It’s funny that yesterday I went to Wags w/the intention of making it my FINAL trip to Wags. Anyway, I was just going to get 2 boxes FREE Expo markers (6 count) for my grandsons, $1 pilot pens (on sale and I had $1 off Q, and a bottle of Revlon nail polish for $1 ( Wags $2 Q and Revlon $1 Q off 1 nail polish). Well, momma did not raise no fool. When that $3 q came out for the Revlon nail polish, the wheels started smokin’. Took my purchases to the car and went back inside for more nail polish!!! I had tons of Wags $2 off q’. Funny thing is that I don’t wear nail polish. My nails break so I keep them very short. I guess one of the light colors would look fine on short nails.
So today I see the Dove deal…remember, yesterday I SWORE off Walgreens” but I have FIVE $3 q’s form Sunday’s Revlon deal. So there I go again TODAY and think to myself “O.k., let’s go see if this Dove deal works”. Lo and behold it WORKS! I had the cashier ring it up the treatments first as suggested. I turned around and purchased the 100 oz Tide (on sale for $11.99) less that $5 Q I just earned and pd $8.04 w/tax! WHOAH! I might be done w/Wags but I don’t think they’re done w/me because I have ANOTHER FIVE $3 q’s!!!…..to be continued I’m sure… 🙂 P.S. The cashiers and managers at the closest Wags that I use are the best, most helpful, and friendly cashiers EVER! I shop early when they are not busy and they more than help me to make sure I’m doing my transactions correctly. I look forward to seeing them. It’s too bad more store don’t have these customer friendly cashiers and managers as we are who keep them in business.

Does anybody have the Wag’s coupon for revlon nail polish that they can make a copy of for me? I didn’t get the Q in my paper but I talked to the manager at Wag’s today and she told me if I can get a photocopy of the revlon Q, she can honor it. Please help because I love nail polish. Thanks.

Thanks so much for this tip! When I went in yesterday, I was very careful to have her scan the treatment first. My cashier is actually the ONE in my store who understands their coupon policy. She told me that they would have to take off the dollar something amount since it was the least amount. I told her I didn’t think that was right so she got her assistant manager. Her manager looked at the receipt and said “nope, it will take off for what the treatments rang up for!” Yea! The cashier was actually really nice about it and excited to find out what order she needs to scan things in for that coupon! If I hadn’t read this first I probably would have just said okay and not had her clarify her understanding of the coupon!

**Question on the dove deal**:

I went to wags yest to do the dove deal, bought 2 shampoos and 2 treatments, and the RR did not print. Two depends coupons printed then the catalina machine ran out of paper, she replaced it, but nothing more printed. She called over the manager who said it did not print b/c it was a Saturday only deal as indicated in the weekly ad.

Based on the comments here you all are getting the RR now- so what’s the deal?? Are you all doing this deal now? Should I try another wags?

Thank you.

I am so excited about the Expo Marker deal this week. I was able to get 12 packs (nope, didn’t even come close to clearing the shelves…) to donate to my daughter’s school. My awesome cashier in the photo dept. didn’t even make me break things up in to multiple transactions. He did exclaim, with a big grin on his face, when he saw the IVC coupon take off $36 and then said that he thought I had actually made $0.06 after the MFQ’s came off. 🙂
