Coupon Friendly Walgreens!

by Christie Bisbee on May 18, 2011

Check out these awesome pictures that Ashley sent us of her Walgreens in St. Louis!

We’ve got one picture letting everyone know they can get FREE Tylenol Precise by stacking an internet printable coupon with one from the Monthly book and another advertising couponing supplies!

I love it! This one certainly gets the Wild For Wags coupon friendly Walgreens seal of approval! 😉

(Thanks Ashley!)

That is just AWESOME! I truly wish my Walgreens was that wonderful. I got a lot of eye rolling and complaining from the cashier on how much she hated couponers. Funny thing is I was only purchasing 3 items with 3 coupons, one of which was the precise! I almost dislike going back there because of her rude comments…

Email Corporate! They shoot them straight to the Store Manager.

I once emailed compliments about a BA and her Mgr called to ask specifics. He told me that handling customers with coupons and without attitude is what he expects — well, so do I, but that’s not the norm anymore. Good or bad, let WAGS know.

Thats great, too bad Wags can’t keep it in stock! LOL I have gotten 2 sets of rain checks for them! alas I will keep trying!!

Wish they were ALL like that I might actually shop there. I NEVER go anymore at all. Tried three times to use coupons at different stores and had three bad experiences.

Love it. Mine doesn’t have signs like this up, but they are definitely coupon friendly!!! which i’m really glad since there is only one in my town and the next closest one is about an hour drive (where there are like 10 in about a 30 mile radius)

My Walgreens actually puts a sample coupon up next to the item with a little note that says see cashier for a coupon (limited supply)….I think that’s pretty cool!

Love it! I just found one of the Wags in my area has a cosmetics counter cashier with a big box of coupons. She pulls out coupons and matches them with people’s purchases as she check them out!

Becky May 18, 2011 at 3:08 pm

Wow. Maybe someone should get her a binder all set up and ready to go to make it easier on her!

Reply

jessica May 18, 2011 at 4:18 pm

She’s actually got a pretty good system. A big flat box with index card dividers. I think she has too many coupons for a binder!

LOVE IT!!! I really wish there were more like this. I had such a problem with my Wags yesterday:( The manger tried to tell me that I could not use manufacturer coupon and get RR. I asked her to tell me when they changed their policy and she replied it it has always been that way. I will go back but get the a different person

Reply

Sarah May 19, 2011 at 1:35 pm

Was this for the Dove Men’s deodorant? I had that problem too with the RR not printing out and she tried to tell me the same thing (she was nice as good be). I told them I doubt that’s it because I have done that before countless times and suggested turning the register on and off to reset it since this was a Sunday morning. Low and behold, it worked!

I went to a different Wags (I had 4 coupons, was buying 2 at 2 diff stores to not be a shelf clearer) and had the same problem. Even though I explained what happened just that morning, they refused to try.

I wonder which one in St. Louis this is from? I live in the suburbs of St. Louis and I’ve found that some of the stores around me are ok with couponers, others not so much. But definitely no signage like this!

LOVE IT! Well, it all goes towards their sales, right? So why not promote….they get reimbursed. They are looking at the big picture and it’s sad that more stores don’t see that. How lucky you are to have a friendly Wags. Mine are annoyed with shelf clearers and treat all couponers like they are giving them a headache. 🙁

Hats off to that store Manager & staff on letting customers know the deals! Despite calls to corporate for certain managers and, claim after a call back from store manager, no more problems, every day is different.

It sure would be nice if our walgreens would stock the shelfs with the Tyenol precise.

Brandy May 18, 2011 at 3:48 pm

love it! The walgreens I shop at in Ocala Fl tapes their in store coupons/coupon booklet coupons on the product the coupons are for! I love how easy they make it!

Sarah May 18, 2011 at 5:22 pm

I think I have had it with Walgreens. They always act like we are doing something wrong and actually the deals are not as good as CVS or Rite-Aid. They do not let me roll RR into my next transaction or really ever have anything in stock. I got more today at rite-aid and cvs then I could of ever gotten at Walgreens and I don’t have to do two transactions normally.

Sarah May 18, 2011 at 5:24 pm

I also forgot to say Wal-Mart has price matching and will match what Walgreens is advertising. I think it has been a blessing!

That’s great! I hope their shelves were stocked too (unlike ours). I saw a lot of commetns about nasty employees, eye rolling, etc. and that makes me wonder how are the couponers treating the employees? I’ve never had an employee at any store treat me badly when I use coupons and i’ve been using them for a LONG, LONG time. Are couponers going in there being snippy, demanding, pushy? Or are they friendly and mention that they also have coupons to go with their purchases? Just curious.

I wasn’t one of the ones who made comments about rude employees, but I will tell you that some of them just are. I always remember to treat cashiers/managers politely, make my purchase in an organized way, and answer any questions they have politely and cheerfully. But some just think couponers are there to give them a hard time, or are trying to scam the system, and are rude no matter how polite you are to them.

On the other hand, most of the employees I’ve dealt with are very polite and friendly. There is one manager who always is grumpy and tries to give me a hard time, so I avoid that store.

A couple of the WAGS in So.Cal I visited yesterday had a Video Loop Player on a table at entrance with a couponer showing a news reporter how you can shop WAGS with coupons and get things for free, or better than free with RR. Liken It!!!

I live in STL city and most of the Wags near me are really coupon friendly. I think it’s because there are fewer couponers out this way. When the Almay was on the RR with the coupon book, they had a table set up with big signs and product out included in the deal. The new store on Lafayette near the Georgian is the only one I’ve had trouble with.

Love, love my WAGS here in Sacramento. The store manager actually takes the in-ad coupon and place it next to the sales tag to let people know about the sales. They never give me a hassle about the coupons. Used to but that was taken care of by showing their coupon policy and now they don’t question when I shop at their store.

I always look for Precise when I am in Walgreens and it is always out. Gave up and finally went to walmart. it was only 97 cents their after the $5 off

Reply

Shelby May 18, 2011 at 11:00 pm

I wonder why they have to adjust the coupons down on items, say for instance I give them a $1.00 coupon for reach and the items is .99 cents. I should get credit for that extra penny because i’m sure when they submit those coupons into Reach Corporate, they get the FULL $1.00. Am I up in the air on this?

Reply

Missy R May 18, 2011 at 11:30 pm

It seems more honest to adjust the price of the item UP to match the coupon, or give overage like Wal-Mart does.

Reply

Kiapita May 19, 2011 at 11:15 am

When my cahsiers adjust down, they scratch out the amount on the coupon and right in the lower amount. I assume that’s what they’re supposed to do.

Kelsey May 19, 2011 at 2:56 pm

The store sends the coupons they collect from customers to a large “redemption facility” indicated by the address in the small print on the coupon. At redemption facilities, the coupons are laid out on a conveyor belt and are scanned in large batches, and the store receives a lump sum from the manufacturer. There is no one checking by hand for scratched out prices. So, the store receives the full amount, even if they don’t pass on the savings to you. It isn’t fraudulent, but it does seem a little unfair! Oh well – the more $$ the store makes from accepting coupons, the better my couponing experience will be.

They asked me if I would like to have the merchandise adjusted up to 1 dollar…she explains it makes it easier to work the register…and I try to be flexable and nice to cashiers 🙂

Getting credit, even if it is a penny, for something that you technically didn’t buy is considered coupon fraud. That’s why you can’t just apply it to the rest of your purchase. I mean, Covergirl won’t want to literally pay for you to get a discount on your Almay.

While I’m all for being coupon friendly, this is a bad idea from a cashier’s point of view. I would get plenty of clueless people going “YEAH IT SAYS THIS IS FREE”. “Yes, but you have to print a $5 coupon online”. Get where I’m going with this?

Reply

Tawanda May 19, 2011 at 11:20 am

It actually does state that the $5 coupon must be obtained online as the word Internet is in there. If there is any confusion, this would be a teachable moment for the new couponer and savvy sales associate. Get where I’M going with this? 🙂

Yes, I get where YOU’RE going with this. But you have no idea how annoying and repetitive these questions get. Sure, couponers know how to read sales tags, most people just assume they’re getting it free. Or when it says Buy one get one 50% off, they say “no it said its 50% off”. Try being on the opposite side of the counter for just ONE day (unless you’ve already worked retail). It’s hard to constantly keep a smile on your face.

BTW, I have had pretty friendly experiences with both of my neighborhood WAGS. There is BA who KNOWS, KNOW, KNOWS her policy and because of her knowledge, people flock to her counter. She’s training those who work in her department to be friendly and knowledable to couponers. I also “leave” coupons for her and the other women who work there, and I pass them onto the sales associates at CVS and Rite Aid as well as my local Winn Dixie. No one has ever mentioned it may be against policy. I think it harkens back to the good old days when stores personally knew their customers. I’m greeted with a friendly wave or a hug from some of the employees when I miss a few weeks of shopping. That makes me feel like a valued customer!

Wow, that’s really nice, I wish I had a nice Walgreen’s like that. My Walgreen’s no longer allows more than 1 transaction per person a day and they put a limit of 2 of the same items per person per day. To bad for them they are going to lose a lot of my money.

Are the coupons in the monthly savings book store coupons, manufacturer’s coupons, or both?
Here’s why I ask: we just went to Walgreens to get the Tylenol Precise, but they wouldn’t let us get the deal. The deal was to use the $3 coupon in the booklet and the $5 printable manufacturer’s coupon (just like in the picture from May 9th). The manager said that the coupon in the monthly coupon booklet was also a manufacturer’s coupon, and we couldn’t use two manufacturer’s coupons. We checked the coupon and it says “manufacturer coupon only good at Walgreens”. What does this mean exactly? Is it a manufacturer or store coupon? Christie, please explain!!!!!
