Updates From the Field 4/25 Edition!

by Christie Bisbee on April 25, 2011

With the holiday yesterday I wasn’t able to make it to the store until this morning.Β  Here are some updates from my trip to help your trip go a little easier! πŸ™‚

SPLENDA DEAL
I luckily found lots of Splenda at my store. I bought a box of Splenda with Fiber, a box of regular 100ct packets and a box of the granulated and I had no problem getting my Register Reward. I used (2) of the $3 and one of the $2 printable coupons to avoid the horrible beep. So all three varieties seem to be working for the deal! Yippee!

FRUITY PEBBLES DEAL
The Fruity Pebbles deal was really bizarre for me. I bought (2) boxes with no coupon, got my Register Reward no problem. I then bought (3) boxes with the $2/3 Catalina coupon and NO Register Reward printed.Β  This reminds me of a similar problem that we had with the Pupperoni Dog Treats from a couple of weeks ago.

If you have a problem with your Register Reward printing you can contact Catalina 1-888-8COUPON or do what I do and return the item on the spot. You can also bring a copy of the ad for the deal which you can find HERE.

STAYFREE DEAL
The $1/1 Stayfree was a beeper for me for some reason. It’s obviously for the right product so they just manually put it through. Just don’t be caught by surprise if it happens.

NEXCARE DEAL
Also, nothing prints out when you buy the Nexcare bandages, at least it didn’t for me. Just be sure you find the packages with the yellow Mail In Rebate sticker stuck to the front!

I had a problem on Saturday with my RR not printing for the hair bands things that were supposed to be free after RR(was in the ad last week). The manager was really cool about it though and said he’d take care of it in a second. He went to the back and grabbed a box of zantac or something and scanned that to get a $3 RR to print…

Stayfree $1/1 MQ was also a beeper for me. Luster Toothpaste and Clorox Cleaner Q’s/RR’s went smoothly. Wish I had some Splenda Q’s πŸ™

Stayfree was a beeper in all my transactions.

Posted this comment on another post, but thought it might be helpful here to….

I purchased 4 today, using the $2 catalina coupon and a $4 RR, but my $3 RR did not print. πŸ™ However, I saw Christie’s comment above with the catalina phone number and made the call. It was easy to do, and all I have to do is call back tomorrow to see if they were able to verify the transaction (takes 24 hours after purchase). Thanks, Christie for everything including the tech support! πŸ™‚

i stopped at one and got the stayfree with a beep but an override from the man behind the counter. I went to one near my work at lunch and the lady behind THAT counter told me that i couldn’t use it b/c it was only for ultra thins (because that’s what the picture had on it).

Flustered, I left without getting them (b/c the ultra thins weren’t on sale). I’m going back after work to get them b/c it sounds like the error was on her part, not mine.

Follow up: Went back to the same store and seeing that the same lady was behind the register, I went to the manager and asked her specifically.

She said that it was for ANY (as the coupon indicated) and that the graphic had nothing to do with it.

She then went so far as ringing me up for my purchases herself – VERY HELPFUL!!!!!

Is it still possible to print the Splenda coupons?

Carol April 25, 2011 at 4:58 pm

I’m having problems finding Splenda. The 2 closest Wags to me are already sold out. This is extremely frustrating. When they have a great deal, they need to be prepared for it.

I started printing the advance ad and stacking scenarios and taking to my local Walgreens Manager to show him what was gonna be hot to the couponers. He appreciates the advance notice and his store often has plenty of hot deal items.

That’s a great idea, do you just mean the Thursday ad sneak peek?

I did about 12 stayfree yesterday without beeps worked fine and splendid is gonna be hard to find

danielle April 25, 2011 at 5:17 pm

Stayfree beeped for me too, and the casiher said it was because it wasn’t the right count, to which I pointed out that the coupon says “any” size. He called someone else and they put it through for me. The Nexcare was fine, but nothing printed for me either, lucky for me there were peelies on the packages. Also did the Colgate total B1G1 free deal, got two for .99-cents. Didn’t try the Splenda deal today, but plan to try it in the next day or so, along with the Clorox clean up with Q’s from Facebook.

I picked up three boxes of Splenda and was happy to find that they each came with a coupon booklet with about $10 worth of coupons, one of which was for $1 off any Splenda. It’s the boxes that are wrapped in the clear cellophane that have the coupons.

At my store, the cashiers were all afraid to use my coupons. They said that they just had regional meeting and because the show “Extreme Couponing” they were warned that overages were coupon fraud (for example the tape deal last week they called coupon fraud, they also gave the example of the lady on the show with the excedrin overages). They said that Walgreens is getting ready to come out with a new coupon policy. I’m kind of worried and hope this doesn’t happen. I have a great store who has never given me any problems, let me do as many transactions as I wanted at one time and encouraged me to get the best deal. This dramatic shift in their behavior is a bit concerning. I’m not real happy with this show right now, they’re not making us couponers look very good. I think it would be ashame if we all suffer because of a few extreme couponers.

Christie April 25, 2011 at 5:26 pm

It’s not fraud – they are so ridiculous. If it’s fraud perhaps they should shut down all the Walmart stores in the country for committing fraud.

They can come out with all the policies they’d like, since they don’t follow their own current policy it doesn’t much matter. πŸ™

i think the “Extreme Couponing” show is not good for us consumers, one way or another.

I have frequently chat with the manager at my local Walgreens. (turns out she is my niece’s ex-mother-in-law)

Last week, she was telling me that the store managers received a memo from Walgreens corporate. One of the things in the memo was that the manager were “encouraged” to watch Extreme Coupononing on TV in order to better combat coupon fraud. Yes, apparently Walgreen corporate considers all those people on Extreme Couponing to be guilty of coupon fraud. πŸ™ The strage thing is that that type of “extreme couponing” cannot possibly be carried out at Walgreens stores.

Take for example, the Splenda deal…. each of the 5 local Walgreens only had 4 boxes on the shelves. πŸ™ I mangaged to get zero. πŸ™‚

If anyones committing fraud it is the store themself. They dont give overage yet they redeem the coupon for the full value from the mnfctr

Well said, Pam and Christie!!

danni April 25, 2011 at 8:07 pm

I also agree about the coupons, and they mark them down to the price of the item, but get the full value + .08!!

Reply

Anne April 26, 2011 at 10:35 am

Danni, that’s not always the case. At my store, we are allowed to mark the coupon down making the coupon worth less and we have to write on the coupon what we really took it for. Then the mfg only pays us for that amount(plus the $.08)

I went to my normal Walgreens and got 5 different Splendas (2 transactions), 2 of the boxes, and 3 of the packets. Everything went fine, and I got my RR. Yipee! Thanks for your help before. I don’t know why I had an issue before. I also got the Clorox, Stayfree, and Schick Hydro razors, all without any major issues. The Stayfree beeped for me too, but she pushed in through without a word.

I had a similar problem at my local Walgreens where my RR didn’t print. I asked the manager why this happened and he told me that it could have had something to do with the fact that I used a Walgreens catalina on that item in the same transaction. He said it’s the computer not recognizing that the coupon was not a RR… He was kind enough to print one out for me

If I remember right (I don’t have the ad in front of me at the moment) there is a in ad wags q for Mead envelopes .69 cents each with in ad q, I have Man. for $1.00 off when you buy any two boxes, I got these from the Mead 2011 calendars that where on clearence at Wags awhile ago, so I’d pay .19 cents a box sounds good to me! it does expire 4/30/11

no splenda for me, I went to 4 different wags:( I did the stayfree, got beeped at one store and not the others but it got pushed through without problems. I also got more luster white toothpaste and pringles with my stayfree RR’s. Very mad about the splenda but everything else went fine, for once!

I wish I had known about the register rewards because I had 15 $3 coupons from the 4/17 paper. I could have gotten more register rewards if I would have done separate transactions…

I have to vent, I just don’t understand managment and cashiers sometimes. This weekend I went out of town, on my return to home on Sunday I stopped at 4 different Walgreens. I didn’t stop at my local Walgreens, I was ready to get home. Not any of them would allow me to use my $3. Q on the $2.99 Splenda, they were not willing to adjust down the Q. I tried to patiently explain their Coupon policy allows it; they just wouldn’t budge. I ended up having to tell them to just void the transaction. Tonight at my local Walgreens I tried the Splenda deal, again they wouldn’t budge, the transaction was voided. I had a seperate order with marked down Easter candy, in the checkout I realized I had forgot to look for the Butterfinger Snackers, I asked the cashier if they had them in stock and was told yes, I asked if I could use my $1./2 Q, since they were on sale, the cashier encouraged me to do so, when the last two Qs beeped they pushed it through without a question. Now tell me how is using a $1. Q for .78 worth of product different from using a $3. Q on a $2.99 item. I have to wonder if the cashier will eventually realize what they did. Sorry for the long vent, it just baffles me. How can we get the cashiers and management to realize it is okay to adjust down the coupon, and it is in their coupon policy?

Hi Christie,

For the Splenda deal…just curious what you meant by using the $2 coupon onthe 3rd box to avoid the beep? Why would it beep?

Thanks!

I ended up doing the 3 boxes of splenda for 2.99 with 3 3.00 off coupons…my total was 0.00 and got the 4.00rr. My second transaction was the charmin for 2.99 and 4 boxes of the freezer pops for .59 each. I paid with my 4.00 rr and a 1.00 off any charmin coupon that I’ve had for a long time. My total was .35 oop πŸ™‚

I found that the Lysol wipes are on sale 2/$3 at my Wags this week and they advertise it’s with a $2 off coupon. So I’m standing there trying to find this Q and give up when a manager walks by. He finds it (no wipes pictured but it is stated on the coupon) and warns his cashier that I’m coming. That’s fine until she tries to use my 2 $1.50 off Q’s and the second beeps so she tells me the coupon says ‘only one’. Now I’m new to this so I don’t argue and I ask her to remove the items so I can try again after some research. But the Q states it’s one per purchase, not transaction….
Was I wrong to try to use 2 for this deal? How can I handle this and get them to ring it up right?

I am not sure if this applies to your scenario, but I’ve found that if you are making a purchase w/ a Wags coupon from the booklet and you are going to use mfr coupons on top of that, you need to have the cashier scan the mfr coupons FIRST, then have them scan the Wags coupon last.

This week – Greenworks dishsoap is on sale 2/$5. There is a $2 wags cpn in their monthly booklets. Well I also found $1 peelies on the bottles. The first time I bought these, the cashier scanned the wags cpn first and would not let me use the mfr cpns b/c they beeped. The store manager kindly pushed them through. I went back this morning and did the deal again…this time asking the cashier to scan the mfr cpns first then the wags cpn…and it went through smoothly! 2 bottles of dishsoap for $1!

Splenda and Stayfree both did not print out. When I asked cashier about it, he said ‘IF you use Manufacture coupons, it will not print. It will print only when you use Wags coupon or when you buy without any coupons’ HUH?

I have to brag about tonight!!! I had the worlds BEST Wags employee ring me out! Man! he was sooo nice…and knew what he was doing and did it with a smile!! My first transaction was the dreaded splenda deal! They only had 2 boxes on the shelf…so I bought those and used me 2 $3.00 off coupons…ohhhh no problem man! I’ll just mark these down to 2.99 for you and you’ll have yourself a great deal!!! Then I used the rr to buy charmin and a few easter things and he was so nice about that too! My total was .34 oop for everything tonight and he seemed really happy about it! I love Wags employees like that…I just wish they weren’t so few and far between.
