Updates From the Field 4/17!

by Christie Bisbee on April 17, 2011

Here are some updates from my trip to help your trip go a little easier!

ALWAYS PADS & LINERS DEAL
I had no problem getting the Always Register Reward to print when I purchased the pads at one store. However, at a second store I bought the Always liners that are pictured as part of the deal and my Register Reward didn’t print. My suggestion? Stick to the pads that you see pictured here for the time being and just make sure it prints before you leave the store!

SCOTT NATURALS DEAL
I used the -$1/1 Scott Naturals Paper Towels, 6 rolls+ PRINT to pick these up today for just $3 after the coupon in the April Coupon booklet AND I did get the $2.50/1 Scott Naturals paper towels catalina! So I grabbed another for just $1.50! I do want to add that I ONLY got it when I paid with a credit card. I get very few catalinas when I pay cash and many more when I use a debit card or credit card to pay. Just a thought!

REACH DEAL & SCOTCH TAPE DEALS
Worked like a charm with the $1/1 coupons! 🙂

GAS-X PREVENTION DEAL
Worked like a charm! Wish I had more of those coupons. Just be sure to buy at least $1.01 more of stuff with it.

AJAX DEAL
Even though the Ajax coupon says any, the coupon beeped. I think that although it says “any” it’s intended and coded for laundry products. So that’s a no go.

GOODY DEAL
This was a little problematic for me this morning. Some of the items pictured didn’t ring up as $3 so to me that’s a red flag that there’s a good chance the $3 Register Reward isn’t going to print!  So, again make sure it rings up for $3 and make sure your Register Reward prints!

How Did Your Trip Go? Find any great deals? Let us know! 🙂

The Goody deal did not work for me. There was not sign that they were on sale nor did the RR print out. The cashier adjusted the price to $3 and and gave me $3 in cash back so I did get the deal since it was advertised in the sale ad.

I bought 9 tapes with coupons=free. They all worked fine. Happy couponing!

The goody products wrang up wrong and the rr did not print for my mom. The manager had to manually adjust the price and they gave her a gift card instead. Her manager was going to investigate…I guess its not just her store then..

Yay! I found a $3 off peelie on the neilmed, so a $3 MM for me! 😀

My goody ouchless was elastics (the only goody I could find in my store) and it rang up at $2.99…not RR. Bummer. Will return it and try another store.

Tiffany April 17, 2011 at 3:32 pm

The RR didnt print for me with the Always, but the manager rang up something else that would print out a $4 RR 🙂

My 15 year old son, yes they tweeze eyebrows too, bought Sally Hansen tweezers and a $2 revelon beauty tool cat printed!

Did the Gas X Prevention work for the Gas X deal?

Reply

matt April 17, 2011 at 3:44 pm

Yes it worked for me. The gas x prevention was on sale for $4.99. I gave my $4 manufacture coupon first then the $2 april coupon booklet coupon second. Make sure you have other items to cover the overage though.

I bought the goody products that were pictured in the ad and they worked fine for me, even though one of the stores did not have the rr deals on them! I also bought the 5 coke zero deal and used my last wags coupon that I had so I paid 3 dollars for 5 cokes! thanks for all you do=)

My trip went well over all. My store doesn’t carry the color wonder unfortunately. My goody hairbands did not ring up at $3.00 but $3.99. The RR for that did print. I gave them a couple of Wags coupons that I am not sure rang up! A bit frustrated….

Reply

Stephanie W April 17, 2011 at 9:53 pm

My store didn’t have a regular spot for the Color Wonder, but I found a hanging display on an endcap near the pet food aisle, believe it or not.

Any updates on the gas x prevention?

The Goodie product rant up at $3.99 and did not print a RR. I missed it and will return it. The Always RR did not print, and the manager explained it was because I used coupons. I showed him the company policy and he relented, but I definitely should have driven the additional 10 miles to the wonderful Walgreens store that everything works out perfectly when purchasing.

I wound up with 4 free Airwick Freshmatics, 3 of the goody hair things that came with bonus ponytails, 6 Sally Henson nail polishes (free), 4 dozen eggs that gave me 4 movie codes, 2 always pads (RR didn’t print, gave me $ 4 cash), 3 Green Giant veges, 2 toothbrushes, and a 2 liter Coke zero. Value: $ 70 + OOP: $ 7.26

Reply

The only $2/1 I see if for beauty tools, not nail polish. Where did you find yours? Would love to score a deal on all the new spring nail polish colors.

Letisha, you are the Coupon Queen! Great shopping! 🙂

The color wonders were only $1 at my store! Messed up my transaction though! I was going to get Goody, Color Wonder and Nivea and then pay with $1 off color wonder and $3 off Nivea and a 4RR from Luster. My total should have been 29 cents plus tax. I had to rework that one. 🙂
When I bought the Scott and paid with my debt card, I got another cat for 2.50 off. The next time I paid cash and didn’t get another cat.
I did get some Head and Shoulders that is BOGO50 and used the BOGO that came in the inserts and then $1 off from P&G.
The olny Goodies I bought were the headbands and clips. They had the RR signage. It printed fine.

Letisha April 17, 2011 at 4:18 pm

I purchased 2 of the Scott yesterday hoping to get the cat but didn’t!! Paid with giftcard I won a few weeks ago…..

Today is the last day. Just make sure you get the 7 strips and not the 6. The 6 are NOT printing the RR.

The store manager had to key in the barcode for the 7 ct on my 6 ct to make the reward print. They were out of 7 cts.

Goody & Always RR did not work for me. Manager adjusted which was very nice of her. I get so frustrated! I spend so much time trying to figure everything out even w/ the help of wfw. What am I doing wrong? I have a binder etc. I get really messed up when I can’t find what I am looking for bc some crazy lady comes in right when the open and wipes out the shelves often! I never buy more than 1 item if it is going to wipe the shelve out. Just sayin….=)

Julie April 17, 2011 at 4:23 pm

🙁 the coke zero catalina wouldn’t print, nor did the scott paper towels one.

Reply

Lynn in MD April 17, 2011 at 9:08 pm

I don’t know about Scott… but there IS NO Coke Zero Catalina that prints. You need to use the manufacturer coupon that’s in the ad to get the 5/$13 price and then give the Walgreens coupon code (2078 I believe??) to get an additional $10 off.

Reply

matt April 17, 2011 at 4:30 pm

If you look in the walgreens flyer, they are giving more and more hints that you can use a manufacture coupon with the monthly coupon booklet coupons. Walgreens never makes me cut out any coupons from the monthly coupon booklet, so that is another sign that they are in store coupons. If they were manufacture coupons, walgreens would need them to send them in to redeem them. If you look in the coupon insert for 4/17, there is an advertisement about the scott naturals towels that are $5 at walgreens. It says that the towels are $5 – $1 in store coupon – $1 manufacture coupon = $3!!! Always hand over manufacture coupon first, then the monthly coupon booklet coupon. Cut out the scott advertisement and bring it with you when doing the scott deal.

The Goody deal worked for me! However, when I decided to purchase the Goody Ouchless hair bands, they came up $2.99 and did not print out a RR. The manager at Walgreens said that you had to buy the ones that are in the picture in the ad, not just any Goody Ouchless brand.

Reply

Heather April 17, 2011 at 11:27 pm

Same for me. I was hoping for the RR to print with the elastics but it was only for the items pictured. The elastics at my store were $4.99 and didn’t ring up on sale…so there’s the clue it was not RR on those. The ones pictured all rang up correctly, though, on sale and with the RR.

I bought the cute donut-style Scotch Magic Tape pictured right on the Wags-Q, but for some reason the Wags-Q beeped. I had not even handed over any of the 3M mfg Qs yet. I had decided not to push my luck and only use ONE mfg Q on the one you buy to get two free, instead of using three Qs, but that one beeped, too and the cashier handed it back to me and wouldn’t put it through. I don’t know if that was because I chose the donut style or if it might have beeped anyway on the regular tape.

I only ended up paying like 60 cents for the 3 donut tapes and five 12-packs of Coke Zero and a newspaper in that transaction, so I didn’t mind so much!

I’m going to try buying the regular tape later when I go back for the eggs. Did Staci buy 9 rolls of tape all at once?

Reply

matt April 17, 2011 at 6:35 pm

I bought the regular tape. I handed over the $1 manufacture coupons first, then the in ad coupon 2nd. It worked fine for me.

I had a really good trip. I LOVE my Walgreens. I travel about an extra 5 miles to go to a really awesome store. The one closer to me is terrible. Super cranky ladies that work there. The only down-side to my trip was I couldn’t find the Always pads (although I had my baby with me and she needs the shopping cart to keep moving, if I stop she gets fussy), so I couldn’t stand too long to look for them. They only had one of the Nescafe’s left in stock so I couldn’t do that deal either. I did get really great deals on those Gillette Fusion razors though, as I had two $5 off man. coupons, making them $.99, not $2.99 as they would have been with the coupons from the last P & G insert. I was pretty happy about that.

Reply

Missy R April 17, 2011 at 4:51 pm

I think it might have to be a Goody Ouchless “FLEX” item.
At the store I was at, everything pictured in the ad was marked on the shelf at bit over $3, without any RR tags, but it rang up at the sale price of $3 and the RR printed out automatically.

My barrettes had “bonus” hair elastics attached.

OK, so I was at Walgreens today and we bought the Huggies diapers and the wipes. We used 3 manufacturer coupons, 2 for 2.00 off the diapers, and 1 for .50 cents off the wipes. We were only able to get the 3 dollar RR. We talked to the cashier (she might have also been the manager) and she told us that we had to spend the 20 dollars AFTER the coupons to get the 5 dollar RR. 🙁

HELP! Does your total have to be $20 AFTER Coupons???

Reply

Christie April 17, 2011 at 6:33 pm

It shouldn’t be after coupons. What was your total before coupons and tax?

Reply

CarrieD April 17, 2011 at 7:43 pm

I did this deal today and my total before the Qs was $23.96 and after the Qs was $14.46. The RR printed without issue.

Reply

Roxanne Nhi April 17, 2011 at 10:55 pm

We bought the 2 packs of diapers for 8.99 and a pack of wipes for 3.49…Total was 21.47 before coupons and tax.

Reply

Christie April 18, 2011 at 12:07 am

Ok – I think what may have happened is that the $3.49 wipes may not have been included. Only the larger refills were in the ad. Did the smaller wipes have signs up for the RR?

Reply

Sara Marie April 18, 2011 at 12:14 am

The smaller packages didn’t have signs. Used a smaller package to bring my total above 20 and only got the 3RR.

Reply

I’m thinking that the smaller package wasn’t included.

I had a similar problem today with Huggies Pull ups. I bought 2 packages for $8.99 each used 2 $2/1.00 coupons and expected to get a $3.00 RR for spending $15.00. The cashier called the manager over and she looked at my reciept and told me it was because I used the coupons and my coupons made my total less than $15.00. I think I will try to contact the Catalina company.

Definitely don’t need to hand over a coupon, just give them the coupon code. In fact, the one time I gave them the actual coupon, it didn’t scan anyway and they had to manually enter the code. Now I just give them the code and just hang on to the coupon in case they ask where it came from.

Now I know why my Always RR didn’t print for me. I saw someone said that Always RR is rolling, so I paid with my Always RR to buy another Always. Then it didn’t give me another RR, so I thought it didn’t roll at my store. But I purchased 1 pack of pads and 1 pack of liners, maybe it was the reason RR didn’t print for me…

Had another great morning at my Wags. They are so nice to me and they do know who i am. My total OOP was $32 with the value of goods being $221. I also walked out with $6 in RR to use next week. I will take an 85% savings any day!!!

Oh and I did the Banana boat/hawaiian tropics deal. MOST of them were not on sale for $7.99. however, I showed the mgr the ad and he even said that the ad basically says all are 7.99. So I was able to get the ones that were not ringing up. I used the $2 Qs and got back the RR. GREAT deal and I already used them for our HOT day at the park!

I had the same thing happen with the Always this morning at my first Walgreens store. I didn’t realize it until I’d left the store. When I got to the 2nd store & did the deal again, I checked & discovered I didn’t get the RR again! I asked the checker & he tried to push it off on my that I bought the wrong pads…but there was a sign below it saying it WAS included so I asked for a manager. (Something I never do!) She ended up giving me $4 cash back!

Definately something went on with the RR

I did the proglide Razor and the Always driliner pads and one of the RR didn’t print. The manager came over and thought it was the Razor RR that didn’t print.

To fix it she made it seam like I returned the razor and rebought it, then the 4RR printed.

Now, reading all the comments, it seems that it was the pads that were the issue… will I have any trouble using the original RR that did print the first time around?

i had no issues with the Goody, or the Neilmed nose drops and got a great deal with the tape!

Goody worked for me and also picked up super cheap clearance Bic razors! My store has a bundled Nivea razor pack (2 packs for the price of 1) so if your store has those, and you have any of the $2 off coupons that came in the boxes some time ago you could get a good deal there.

Reply

ali April 18, 2011 at 11:41 am

The wonderful manager at my store told me ahead of time that the Always liners were the “old” style boxes, and they wouldn’t generate the RR, but the pads were the “new” packages and they would work fine. Since I only had coupons for the liners, he just did a separate transaction with the pads so it would give me the RR. I looked VERY carefully at the liners box in the ad and it has more graphics on the box than the one I bought, so he was right–it will only work on the “new” boxes. Hope this helps!

At my Walgreens today, the manager refused to let me use my $1.50/1 6-roll or more manufacturer’s coupon on the Scott paper towels along with the Walgreens Q in the April coupon book. He pointed out that the Wags Q says “manufacturer coupon” and therefore I can’t use 2 manufacturer coupons on one item. Anyone else had this problem? If it was a manufacturer coupon, why wouldn’t they need to send it in to get reimbursed?? They had a stack of their own Wags Q’s at the register to scan, so I don’t think they were planning on mailing those anywhere!

20 minutes of headache on what should have been a straight forward deal.

I am so frustratd when the cashier or floor manageer makes up their own excuses as to why a coupon will not work. My coupons yesterday needed to be ajusted down as they were a penny over what the product price was. I kept asking them to just adjust down the price and they were clueless (one cashier and one floor manager both working on this situation). Had not done that before and claimed they cant do that. I stated that their store policy allows them to do that. The floor manager then (with an attitude) asked me “How do you know what our store coupon policy states?” OH WOW, I just took my copy of their policy out of my book, darn. Anyway, I asked to see their copy as I did not have mine with me. She would not let me see it, and slowly read through the whole policy. Then she said, oh I guess we can do that. 🙂 But, when she saw my Degree coupon, $1.00 off ANY, and I was buying the .99cent trial size, she said she can’t give it to me for free because the coupon was more than the actual price. Here we go again on the same issue I just had with the tape. Now Im really confused…:( What a mess. The floor manager kept asking me to take back some coupons and just pay the difference. Example, Tape.. $1.99, buy 1 get two free. I gave them 2 coupons worth $2.00. She stated, just pay the extra dollar, take back this coupon because you are getting 2 free anyway. I nicely stated I would love to give you the dollar but if I don’t have to I really don’t want to. Then she came up with a balance of .32 cents. Not sure how, but asked me to just pay it so I could get out of there. I again stated I don’t know how you would come up with .32 cents as everything I am buying today is free. So, no…not interested in paying, SORRY. So, has anyone else seen a floor manager throw around their big wad of keys because they have to override a sale? It was very interesting.

So what did I learn? They are encouraging me to buy lots of fillers to cover any overage that might occure. So, as honest as I have tried to be, I will conform to what they want me to do. I will be better at putting together my list so that any overage will pay for other product I may want to purchase for the day. 🙂 Well, maybe not but it is a thought. And YES, I did call coorprate on this one. So sad, and my poor little boy was just beside himself over the long “Ill just take a minute babe” trip. He keeps reminding me “you always say it will be quick momma”. 🙂

Take your candy coupons with you today! There was LOTS of Easter candy clearance. I got Dove chocolate $1.99-1.00 coupon – I think there may be a $1.00 off of 2 coupon in the April booklet too. Oops. I also got the Starburst Jellybeans $1.50-1.00 manu. coupon off of 2. This was the first time I have used the in-store coupon book in addition to manu. coupons and have NOT had problems! I did have a problem with the cake mix/brownie/veggie deal. I gave her the in-ad coupons first and then the .50 off coupon. It beeped and she was waiting for a manager – but they were so busy she just pushed it through.

FYI – On Saturday I bought a package of Planter’s peanuts that are by the register because I needed to get cash. I got the Scott $2.50 coupon. Then immediately after I bought Planter’s almonds and got cash back, but no Scott coupon. I made another purchase later with the color wonder, no Scott coupon. And another purchase of groceries on Sunday…no coupon. (But i did buy Scott and used the 2.50, and did not get another coupon).

I just got the Neilmed and there was a $1 peelie so I made a $1 on that. Most of the items I went to get were out of stock so I had to get a bunch of rain checks 🙁 I was able to do the tape deal though and got 3 of those and used 3 of the man. coupons for a $1 off. I did see the Goodies head bands marked for the $3 deal but chose not to get them so I am not sure if they would ring up right. I also bought the two chocolate peeps that were 2 for a $1 and used the $1 off 2 coupon to get those for free. All in all a good trip!

I want to get the Colgate deal as I have two $1 off 1 coupons, but the Walgreens ad says “Limit 1 coupon per printed offer”. Does that mean I can only use 1 coupon for the RR deal even though I am buying two?

Kendra, that means about RR, not coupon. RR will be printed only 1 per transaction. For example, you buy 2 Colgate with 2-$1/1 coupons, then you receive 1-$4 RR. Even you buy 4 of Colgate with/without coupons, you will receive only 1-$4 RR. But if you do 2 separate transactions for 2 of each Colgate, then you can receive $4 RR from both transaction.

Today I went and got 2 peeps, 2 Dove bars, 1 reach toothbrush and 3 rolls of tape. I was prepared to use (2) $1 off coupons for the tape, but the register would only take one. I made sure to give the manufacturers coupons first, and by my count I had 8 items and 8 coupons (including walgreens in-ad coupons) so that wasn’t the problem either. I was going to have to pay $1.99 for the toothbrush so there should have been plenty of overage. I told the cashier that their coupon policy says they can take two coupons on a B1G1 deal – and he said yeah, one manufacturer and one Walgreens. Is that right? Did anyone else have trouble getting 2 tape coupons to work?

Crystal – The peeps coupon is $1/2 and the Dove coupon is $1/2. So those may have attached to (2) items, meaning you may have had 8 items but only 6 counted. I suspect that’s what happened.

I didn’t get the CAT for Scotts to print either and I used a credit card. 🙁

I thought WAGS took all MFG coupons, they wouldn’t take a CAT coupon from another grocery store 🙁
