Walmart released their NEW coupon policy today. You might be scratching your head wondering what a Walgreens site would be doing talking about Walmart. Well… based on this new policy it’s looking like you soon might be able to use your Register Rewards and Catalinas at Walmart! Yes, my jaw dropped when I read that too!
Here’s a quote directly from the new coupon policy says…
We gladly accept the following coupons: Checkout Coupons (also called “Catalinas) that are printed at our competitors registers, have “Manufacturer Coupons” with specific requirements printed on them, a valid remit address for the manufacturer, valid expiration date and a scannable bar code.
As I sit here looking at my $5 Refresh Register Reward, it meets all of those requirements. It says MQ, the requirements for redemption are on the back of the RR, it’s got a remit address, a valid expiration date and a scannable bar code. Hmmmm… even the graphic of the sample Catalina looks a little like a Register Reward (coincidence?).
I imagine it will take a while to get the staff at Walmart up to speed on these new changes and I’m sure we’ll get some clarification on this in the coming weeks. I’ll keep you posted as we learn more. It looks promising and it does look like you should certainly be able to use Walgreens printed Catalina coupons. Tara over at Deal Seeking Mom is a Walmart Mom and has more information on the new policy HERE and a printable version of the policy HERE.
Anyone else find themselves wishing that they had found more Motrin? 😉
(Thanks, Deal Seeking Mom!)

I’d love it if RR worked at Walmart! I’ve tried using them (at multiple stores) and they never work, the cashiers seem to think you need to purchase the item/brand pictured on the coupon, can’t use them on ANY purchase like you can at Walgreens.
more and more stores are accepting these. Kroger (Fred Meyers) just updated their policy last month to accept them as well….woot woot. It’ll be nice to get some real food with those cats.
wow~! I didn’t know FM will take them! This could seriously change my grocery shopping!
Woot Woot. I hope other places follow suit.
“found more Motrin” I wish I would have found 1 some any!
LOL! I went to multiple stores before I found any and there wasn’t much!
I didn’t realize that Kroger would accept RR from Walgreens. Does it say this in their coupon site?
I have not located any Motrin, but I did get FREE excedrin at Target today and also FREE nature Valley granola bars! 🙂
You can use Walgreens Register Rewards at other stores??? I thought they were only good at Walgreens even though they say Manufacturers Coupon on them.
I hope it works! My friend tried and they don’t scan, she said…I’ve yet to try.
I have used them at kroger for ages and I loved that…I have never had them expire and back when I was making a $3 profit on Nivea body wash I was using that profit to pay for groceries!!! lol
Holly-
Do you get to use the RR rewards for any items? Do they work like cash like at Walgreens? Is there any limits on how many you can use? I will look up the coupon policy, but I wanted to know from someone who has personally done it. Are there any other stores that accept them besides Krogers and possibly Walmart (which would be incredible).
I have used them at Walmart and Shopko (like a Kmart in the midwest) and a smaller local grocery store. The cashiers usually have to call a manager because they don’t want to get in trouble but it usually works.
Please correct me if I’m wrong. Unless you need to buy something and have extra RR, you’d be losing money by using them at Walmart. Walmart doesn’t produce any catalinas. Isn’t the beauty of RR is that you can use them to purchase items at Wags and get more RR?? Thanks.
Lisa, I’m with you…I roll mine and if you can’t get any back from walmart then I won’t be using them there.
Christi, I have not found any Motrin yet, all out.
Yeh but some times there is nothing to roll them into I have $200 worth of them and nothing to really roll them on in the next two weeks. So if I can go get meat and produce with them then so be it.
They don’t roll, but you’re really not losing money using them to buy items you’d be paying out of pocket for if you shop Walmart anyway and you don’t have to spend them on stuff at WAGS that you don’t want, that you’re just using to roll RRs. You may end up with more cash out of pocket at WAGS but less cash out of pocket at WM so it evens out. I use mine at the Commissary for my groceries, so I get the stuff I want/will use or donate from WAGS and don’t have to worry about how I’m going to keep them going. Otherwise, I don’t think I’d shop nearly as much at Walgreens.
I can order at my store and will get tons of these for free/ almost free. I’ve been using them to get more stuff at Walgreens but if I can use them at WM – fresh produce, meat etc!!
Lisa, this is exactly what i was thinking. The only beauty I can think of is if you have a bunch expiring that day and Wags shelves are empty or nothing you want left. But this will also lead Wags employees to start scamming. Think about it, all they have to do is “purchase” and “return” items that print the rewards. Then they are not out any money at all because they returned it. Then they go on a shopping spree at Walmart. It may also lead to manufacturer’s becoming a little more tight with the RR printing, ie, lower values or Wags coming up with a card system where they can track and limit purchases. This should be good for a few weeks but somewhere someone will catch on and make it more difficult to do. 🙁
I will always keep some to roll, but it would be nice to have somewhere to use up the excess RR I have.
Our Safeway stores accept Walgreens rr also! I have only had a problem 1 time & I think it was lack of education on the cashiers part… and that was also at a Safeway I don’t frequent very often. My usual Safeway takes them without any questions!
You guys are lucky. I’ve tried at both Walmart and Von’s….the managers at each store told me almost the same thing….the ‘manufacturer coupon’ catalinas had to be for specific items not for dollars off amounts on anything. Bummer.
@Chantelle L, you need to print a copy of the PDF version of the Walmart Coupon Policy that gives photo examples of what each coupon is. For the Catalinas/Manufacturer Rewards category there is a picture of a coupon that has *NO ITEM* on it, and it says *SAVE $2.00* – which is the same exact wording as the Register Rewards from Walgreens.
You need to be persistent. If they still refuse ask them to call the Ops Managers, if he refuses, ask to talk to the store manager, if he refuses talk to the District Manager, if he refuses talk to Corporate. Post your troubles on Facebook.com/Walmart and specify which store isn’t following the new coupon policy. The stores will get a call from Corporate and put into place. 😉
A girl I work with said her Publix takes them but I have not attempted it because I always use them at Wags. There’s always something I need on sale. I dread going to Walmart. Can’t even remember the last time I stepped foot in one.
I am not clear on this, does that mean I can use CVS or Walgreens RR at Walmart. Please can someone clarify, thanks.
I don’t know that a CVS ECB would work.
A CVS ECB does not meet the requirements Walmart laid out. So a ECB wouldn’t work. I’m sure we’ll get more info soon about Register Rewards, but they sure do sound like they meet the requirement, so we shall see!
What about Sinex Register Reward? It has not been printing still. Does anybody have answer from Catalina?
The display material was printed in error. They were meant to say ends 2/26, not 3/26. There is no Register Rewards currently for any Vicks products.
I am very frustrated with Walgreens!! I have tried 3 times now to go in and purchase what is advertised in their flyer and they are out of the items!! The crazy thing is that I went on a Monday morning. THat is only 1 day into their sale!! I voiced my complaint to the manager. He seemed unmoved. It makes me NOT want to shop there!!!
see if the manager will order for you. Mine does!
My local grocery store accepts the Register Rewards. I’ve been able to pick up the FREEBIES at WAGS, utilize them at WAGS to make a profit and then get my grocery shopping done with a fair amount of it FREE!
Fred Meyer has been giving me a hard time about using Walgreens RR. Some cashiers take them and others think they are not supposed to. The registers never beep when they are scanned. I didn’t know safeway and now walmart will take them. That is great.
I found NONE of the Motrin at 3 different stores in my area!
Has this already started at Walmart? Has anyone used their RR’s there?
I tried using some of my RR at our local walmart and they wouldn’t take them because they stated they wouldn’t be able to send them in to Walgreens and get reimbursed. I tried to tell them and show them that they don’t get sent into Walgreens for reimbursement. I talked to several CSMs who all told me different things and asked for the actual Store Manager and was told she is out for nine days and that the Assistant Manager was not in either. I always hate shopping at WalMart because they make me feel like I am doing something wrong when I use coupons. I always try to avoid shopping there but thought with the new policy it would be worth a try…no thank you. Needless to say I will not be shopping at Walmart!
I also tried to use Register Rewards on Saturday at Walmart and it was a big NO GO! Cashier called her cashier manager, who called the customer service manager, who called the assistant manager, who called the on duty store manager. It was comical. Between the four of them and my copy of the coupon policy, they had all sorts of excuses. My favorite was the manager who said I had to buy more Motrin, Baby Magic and Colgate Toothpaste, as if I need more of that! Another one suggested that “if we did take these” they would only be good on items in my cart over the value of the coupon. It was no problem, I just thought I’d try so I paid for my stuff and got out of there. Love to hear from others who had success. Oh, I am in the St. Louis, Missouri area.
My WalMart is not coupon friendly. I wouldn’t even begin to think about using a RR.
Put the following in to your cell phone:
1-800-Walmart (1-800-925-6278)
If everyone at your Walamrt refuses to follow the printed corporate coupon policy, just smile and say, “Let’s call corporate and verify this right here and now,” and dial. Most times management will cave so the line is not held up, but even if the call goes through, the store personnel will then be informed by corporate of the policy.
Win-win, except for time.
OMG! I love it! Call corporate right now! That should shut em up! I have the most coupon illiterate employees at my Walmart & I’m gonna have to try this! LMAO!
I wonder…if tons of WAGS customers start using their RRs at competing stores, would they be more likely to replace RRs with the point system they’re testing in Oregon and Kansas? That would REALLY stink.
Still, it’s super tempting to take them to Walmart and buy actual FOOD! I guess time will tell. Keeping my fingers crossed the RR system will live on forever! 😀
