Need Prescription Drugs? $25 Walgreens Card!

by Christie Bisbee on March 31, 2012

If you need any prescription drugs, here’s some awesome news for you! Walgreens is currently offering a $25 Gift Card when you transfer a prescription from a different pharmacy.

You’ll need to head on over to the Transfer Prescription page on their site. You’ll then need to enter your prescription information and the information for the pharmacy you are transferring from. Once you have entered all of your information it will give you a link to a coupon you can print to bring with you to get your $25 gift card.

You’ll want to do this for a prescription you plan to pick up soon, since you’ll have to enter a pick up date. However the offer is good till 4/30/12 so that gives you some time to take advantage of this deal! Plus if you have the Walgreens Prescription Discount card you may be able to save even more. Depending on your individual situation this can be great way to save on something you needed anyway.

Don’t forget about prescriptions for pets – if you or your family members don’t need anything transferred maybe Fido or Fluffy do. 😉

Offer Details: This card is not valid for and cannot be used by any holder who is a beneficiary of a Federal health care program. Offer not available in Alabama, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, New York, and New Jersey.  See more HERE.

(Thanks for the great deal Amanda!)

Can you do this for more than one prescription?

I just transferred my prescription. Here is the fine print from the coupon I received. I copied and pasted it: This offer is not valid for and cannot be used by any holder who is a beneficiary of a federal healthcare program, such as Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part B, Medicaid, TRICARE or the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. Offer not valid in AL, AR, MA, MS, ND, NJ, NY and PR.
*Purchase of a transferred prescription is required and coupon must be presented at prescription payment. Prescriptions cannot be transferred from another Walgreens or Duane Reade. Some card restrictions apply. Transfer offer expires 5/30/12. Not valid with any other offers. Redeemable in store only. Coupon must be surrendered at time of purchase. Limit one card per transaction.
Cashier: Prescription must be included in purchase. Scan bar code. If eligible, proceed with activation of Well at Walgreens promotion card.

update – I went to pick up my scrip today and they said the coupons were having problems before they ever tried to help me. I paid for my prescription and then they tried for 10 mins to get the computer to accept the coupon. Then they said it took the coupon but I was denied but they don’t know why. They thought it was maybe because I had the prescription filled there a year ago so it’s not ‘new’. They said a manager will check into it and call me. I left my scrip there and said if it won’t work – I’m not getting my prescription there. So frustrating when I read all the fine print and they don’t honor their deal. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

do they offer $4 price on generics? I currently pay just $4 for a prescription at Walmart. If I am charged $10 or so at Walgreens it would not make much sense to transfer if I’ll be paying more.

@Nancy. I had the same issue. I picked mine up and was basically told that it wasn’t working (“Promo not valid”) and that they would call me back after 20 minutes of waiting.

They called, three days later to say I wasn’t “eligible” for some reason, despite meeting all the requirements on the coupon. She wasn’t willing to figure out why and didn’t offer to issue a gift card, I emailed Corp and told them to send me a gift card and pointed out they need to inform their employees of any promos going on and to load it into their system before releasing their coupons.

I had a problem earlier this evening. Walgreens computer system spit out erroneous information as to whether I am on Medicare. I am not. I showed my Prescription Drug Benefit card from a private company; but the manager wouldn’t override it.

I am to return tomorrow to hopefully pick up my giftcards. If Walgreens can’t fix this when I return; they will be returning my prescription. I won’t buy it there.

Last year 2012 my RX provider Expresscripts was unable to reach an agreement on terms with Walgreens so I was told to go elsewhere for my prescriptions. This year we were told that they had reached an agreement with them. I saw the Coupon for the $25 and it says Welcome Back Express Script Members! I took the coupon to Walgreens in anticipation of bringing my business back to Walgreens when the Pharmacist stated that my particular medication did not qualify for the transfer of a prescription because my medication is a schedule 2 drug which requires a new script each month since it is Mandated by the Feds. So that eliminates me from being eligible for the coupon? This is a script I get every month as a maintenance drug, just because the Feds require that I get a prescription written for it each month eliminates me from being eligible for the coupon? Is that my problem? Am I not still transferring a prescription or my business back to them? If they are worried I might try to redeem the $25 coupon each month they would have record of my prescription and record that I had already got that coupon offer in their data bank. It seems to me that if they truly wanted my business back to them they would have honored it. I Really wanted to go back to Walgreens as some of them are open 24 hours and very convenient but well I will not go back to Walgreens if they want to treat me this way. I can’t help the medication I am on and I was looking forward to returning to Walgreens again but I feel like I’m not wanted there. So I continue to go elsewhere.

If you take more than one prescription it would be wise to stay with one pharmacy so they can watch for possible drug interactions.
