Updates From the Field!

by Christie Bisbee on May 16, 2010

Here are some updates for this weeks ad…

1) Gillette/Old Spice is NOT rolling. Bummer.

2) You can buy 2 or 4 of the Reach products to get a better deal than the (3) Reach products if your store allows you to use the In ad Q with the MQ. This is a total YMMV!
Buy
2 – Reach Toothbrushes $4 Each
Total = $8
1 -B1G1 Reach Total Care Toothbrush – 01-03-10 RP – valid up to $3.99 (Takes Off $3.99)
1 -$1/1 Reach Toothbrush or Reach Value Pack, Any One. – 04-11-10 RP

1 -In Ad Q for Reach (-$3.33)
Total = $-.32 in overage

3) The Gillette coupons in today’s ad give you most bang for your buck as far as the Gillette RR deal goes and it works with no beeps or issues. (I bought the jello becaue otherwise I’d be a penny short and not able to use my $3 RR.)
Buy
1 – Gillette Body Wash $4.49
1 – Gillette Odor Shield Deodorant $4.99
1 – Royal Gelatin $.19
Total = $9.67
Use
-Get Gillette Body Wash FREE wyb Gillette Anti-perspirant/deodorant 05-16-10 RP (Takes OFF $4.49)
-$2/1 Gillette Odor Shield Anti-perspirant/deodorant 05-16-10 RP
-$3 RR EOS

Total = $0.18
Get Back = $4.50!

Just trying to understand why you also bought the Gelatin- if you have the 2 items and use the 2 Gillette coupons, wouldn’t that work?

Just updated it to make it clearer. I needed it to use a $3 RR. Without the $.19 Jello I’d be under by a penny and I wouldn’t be able to use the $3 RR.

Hi Christie:

I am new to walgreens as this store just opened up in our area. In the above transaciton can you please explain what EOS means. In the last step you have it as -$3 RR EOS. I checked your glossary section but couldnt find what EOS is. Sorry if it is too silly to ask:)

Thanks in advance

Hi Nina, No it’s not silly at all! That is a $3 Register Reward from a deal that was going on last week. The product was an EOS Shaving Cream product. So that scenario is for someone using Register Rewards from last week. They would most likely have that $3 RR from last week from buying EOS since it was FREE after RR last week.

The odor shield deodorant is $5.99 at my store. :[ Their prices always throw off my deals.

Hey, I just stumbled on this site. Very cool!

I am a huge WAGS nut. Isnt using the B1 deo G1 BW and the 2/1 deo double stacking? Can you use both of them basically on the same product? (The deo?)

Just curious.

Hi Mike,
The one coupon makes the body wash FREE and the $2/1 is for the deodorant that you are paying full price for. So one coupon for each item, my store found this acceptable. What would not be acceptable would be if it was a $2/2 or that $4/2 gillette for example, since you can’t have more money off the FREE item. So if someone wanted to use the $4/2 they’d have to buy 3 items. Or if the $2/1 was on the body wash that would be a no too, since it’s already free. All these gillette coupons are making my head spin!

I have a question. Can I use the BOGO Gillette body wash coupon from a month or so ago in this deal and end up getting two body washes for free (after RR)? I don’t want to make the register beep! I do have the other scenario coupons but would rather have body wash than the deodorant. Help!

The BOGO Body Was will work! No problems!

TWO of my local Walgreens jacked up the price of the Odor shield to 5.79 this week. So annoying! Well, that just means the third local store gets my business!

My local Walgreens just informed me that when using a b1g1 free with a $$ off MQ, the b1g1 price you get off is the price minus the $1 MQ. I think they just made this up!! I have NEVER heard this before!! I have done several b1g1 with a $$ off MQ and NEVER had a problem. The cashier also adjusted the b1g1 down to $2.33 so I actually owed money instead of a MM. It was a good try though! This Wags in particular hates me and the cashier that was there especially. He is always out to mess something up. I should’ve just walked out when I saw him at the register. My other Wags here in town don’t mind my couponing they are just a farther drive but I’m sure worth it in the long run… anyway, I’m just rambling, but did want to ask if that first part is true? For ex: I bought 4 Reach toothbrushes at $4 each. Before he saw my in-ad q, he took off the 2 $1 off Reach MQ, then the b1g1 he only took $3 off because he said “you get the cheapest price for the b1g1 MQ” (so $4-$1 MQ=$3) … even when you say one coupon each item, it seems like the $3 toothbrush (that already has the $1 off MQ) is getting both the $1 off and the b1g1 coupon, which doesn’t make any sense!! Any thoughts? I may email corporate and ask them so I know and have the correct answer on paper and can take it with me when I need it. Thanks for your site! I love it! 🙂

Oh, I think you just a creative cashier. If you buy 2 toothbrushes that are $4 each and you use a B1G1 you are getting -$4 off. One FREE toothbrush. You are still paying full price for the other one so you can use a $1/1 coupon. So $3 for both. I love the creative rules that they come up with. “If it’s raining outside then the B1G1 coupons are only a B1G1 50% off and if its a full moon out we can’t take them.”. 🙂

So last night I was over at my mother-in-law’s house, and she gave me her last week’s inserts. It was about 10 until 10 p.m. when I left her house, so I wouldn’t make it to my favorite Wags before closing time. I rushed over to the 24 hr store (which I’ve never been to before), eager to have a money-making Gilette shop!… but, alas, they would not let me use the $2 off deo coupon with the Buy 1 deo Get 1 BW coupon. Even more tragic ( 😉 ) is that I had just figured out that was even a possibility. So the other 3 Gilette shops I did were not money-makers either! *Sigh* The drama of learning to shop at Wags!
