Why I do What I do… $223 in Product for 36¢!

by Christie Bisbee on April 23, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 8.32.46 AMI will admit, I love writing Wild for Wags and Wild for CVS. But I’m only human and sadly, dealing with a bunch of personal stuff right now.

Some days, well, I’m tired, or cranky, or just want to stay under the covers and sleep.  I also work a full time job and as you know, the blog doesn’t take weekends off. As silly as it might sound, it really is a labor of love.

When I hear from a reader about how the blog actually helped them and their family, it reminds me why I do what I do and why I love it so much! It’s SOOOO appreciated, plus it’s a major motivator for me to keep looking for deals!

I got this picture from Deanna and I wanted to share it with all of you. It put such a big smile on my face! 🙂

This is her receipt from her Friends & Family Day shop. Her total was 36¢ + an additional $5.85 in tax. Her total savings was $223.94! WOWZA! Here’s what she wrote…

I would just like to say thank you for all your Walgreen’s shopping help! Not only was I able to save tons of money but I was able to share the items I got for free with family and friends who are down on there luck! Sharing a couple of photos of Friends and Family day! You are the best!

So when people ask me why I do this, and if coupons are really worth it… I think I’ll just tell them to look at this post. GREAT JOB DEANNA. Thank you for making my day and keep up the good work! 😉

Wow, what did she get? I see a lot of $4.00, so I’m guessing Almay items? 🙂 Great job!!

I don’t think it was almay. she didn’t get enough bonus points. I am guessing it was probably register rewards from maybe the Epsom salt or the allergy medicine…

A lot of those coupons are register rewards that she got from the week before.

Reply

Lisa April 23, 2013 at 4:41 pm

Maybe she’s been rolling Register Rewards, which is kind of the point, isn’t it? I say great job!

Annora April 23, 2013 at 4:57 pm

Definitely rolling the coupons—smart Couponer! I’ve been rolling mine for over 2 years (much harder to do with points in the mix) and that means much less out of pocket.

As for you, Christie, we love your blog (without question, the best out there!) and greatly appreciate all you do. If the personal crap weighs you down, let us know and we’ll be more than happy to lift your spirits; think of all of us as your Couponing Family. We’re here if you need us!

I hardly ever shopped at Walgreens, until I started reading your blog
I haven’t done a big shopping trip for a while, mainly because of the new point system, but savings are phenomenal. THANK YOU so much for all the hard work!
🙂 🙂

Woo-hoo! I’ve had a few receipts to be proud of but if this one was mine I would have turned cartwheels back to my car! Congrats Deanna!
And Christie, I so appreciate all of your hard work! You are such a big help and a blessing to all of us! Thanks for everything you do!

Christie!

Sending you a BIG GIANT THANK YOU for all you do for your followers! I never shopped at Walgreens before I “met” you, and waited patiently for my local one to open. Most of the employees know me by name now because I’m in there so often, and they are amazed at what I do/save/donate. I encourage them to watch your blog so they can see what will be coming up.

I can’t begin to tell you the $$ I have saved, and free merchandise I have been able to get (and donate) because of your blog. It is simply wonderful, and I’m sure I’m one of many many whose financial life has been helped out by what you do.

I wish I could help you out on a weekend day and give you the day off, but that won’t work! So please accept my THANK YOU SO MUCH as a not-so-great-but-the-best-I-can substitute!

Susan from Seattle

Should have left the transaction details out. Low OOP means nothing; RRs and ECBs are seldom free.

Reply

Crystal April 23, 2013 at 8:13 pm

Low oop is everything Jeff. Nothing is free – there is always tax. We focus on free after RRs, points and rolling RRs. This was an amazing trip and I appreciate

Crystal is right, Jeff. Perfectly said.

Mary April 24, 2013 at 4:15 pm

That is exactly what I was thinking. There have been quite a few moneymaker deals recently though that could have truly made this a “free” trip, but if not moneymaker deals, then you are correct that the OOP definitely started somewhere. At this point it doesn’t really matter. That is a boatload of savings in one trip.

@jeff, how are RR’s & ECB’s hardly ever “free”, if u are rolling them every wk & getting more then u are never paying for anything , u are rolling them into the next wks deals, if u aren’t doing this then you’re doing it all wrong 🙂

Erica April 23, 2013 at 7:24 pm

I love big checkouts, and I personally love the new point system, it makes it easier to roll rr because you don’t have to keep track of the manufacture it came from. I have used 40000 pts 5 times so far and 2 of those have been this week, using my rr from last week and pts I have spent under 20.00 and got 2 chairs for 34.50 and got both the 10.00 rr items in the same transaction had the $5 off $20 purchase coupon to. started the week with 30000 pts and $19 in rr now have $30 in rr and 2950. thanks so much

Way to go Deanna!
Christie I’ll be praying for you. Hang in there, things will change for the better. Take one day at the time and soon you’ll look at this difficult time just as a distant memory. My family and I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS for ALL you have done for us. My husband was laid off unexpectedly 3 months ago and looking at our stock pile was a great source of comfort and security. I haven’t purchased a single tube of toothpaste, a toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. etc. etc.during this past 3 months. Thank GOD my hubby has found a job now and I can now re-stock. Please know that your hard work has helped my family during a time when we needed it the most. God bless!

Christie,
As I read the others posts, I’m tearing up! Your blog is always so positive that it lifts my spirits when I’m down. Everyone has issues, I hope and pray yours become easier to bear with this out pouring of love. I’ve been lurking with you for a few years, dropped away when Walgreens went to the point system and work became consuming, but now I’m back with you and Walgreens and happier again! Thank you so must for all the time you put into this blog – you must know how helpful it is to everyone!

Lance April 24, 2013 at 10:51 am

I think Jeff has a valid point here. OOP can be very misleading. With RRs it’s easy to create a single transaction where you “save” hundreds. When in reality you had to start rolling your RRs at some point and spend additional money to keep them rolling depending on weekly deals.

Net savings (or profit in some cases) is a much better representation of the financial impact of a transaction or set of transactions. And ultimately isn’t that what this is all about?

Great shopping trip! Way to go! And Christie… your 2 sites are the only ones I follow for CVS and Walgreens. I tell all my friends to check the sites before shopping because you will have the best deals posted! I am able to provide food/toiletries for my family AND donate to my church regularly BECAUSE of your hard work and dedication. Thank you!!!

Can I use a lot of coupons if there isn’t restriction on number of coupons I can use? I try to use 4 same like coupon in one shopping trip because most stores do that.. Anyone knows?

Reply

sharell April 24, 2013 at 11:10 pm

Jenny,
Most coupons will say if there is a limit to how many of like coupons you can use. As far as walgreens goes, as long as you have an item for each coupon you should be ok. I have never had so many in one transaction that it wouldnt take any more coupons. Now there is a limit of transactions in a single day, I have hit it once, I think its 20 but dont quote me.

Awesome receipt and always fun to share the big score, no matter how you go there! Yippee! I do have to say a HUGE ‘thank you’ to you, Christie for never giving up on sharing the great info here. You were the start of my couponing adventure about 2 years ago when I was seriously down on my luck and wasn’t sure I could even feed my family. You showed me a light at the end of the tunnel and have saved me a ton.

I now donate my stash and will probably continue to coupon forever just to help others now. I knew you were a gem when one of my first trips to Walgreens with coupons (to get toilet paper and cereal I remember), the guy in line behind me actually left the line and followed me out to the car to ask “HOW DID YOU DO THAT?”….I told him to come to your website (and have now probably shared it with dozens of people).

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Christie, please forgive us for forgetting you have a life outside of this site. Its easy to forget that you sacrafice for us. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, I never shopped at Walgreens until I found your site. It never occurred to me that if might help you to know just how much you help us. I do my best savings at Christmas. Last year following your site, I was able to get just over $1200 in products, toys included for just over $600 and I was so excited. This past Christmas, I did so much better! I got $2300 in products, including toys and other items, for just over $300! I do alot of small shops, but I keep track of the price of item and what I actually pay oop including tax. If that was all of the savings I got, I would be happy, but you show me how every week how to get the most for my money. I have little workshops to show people how to coupon and your site is the first place I tell them about. Because of you and your site, I can not only support my family, but I am able to donate and help others also. Thank you Christie, I wouldnt be able to do it without you. How can we help you? If there is anything I can do, anything at all, please email me. Again, thank you!

I too had a transaction last week with a 100% savings! I have had a transaction before with no money OOP….but something about looking at the receipt and seeing that 100% savings listed….just made me realize how much I am saving our family…and that it IS worth all the hard work we do to follow what you have shown us with your website and that what you do means something to us all. Thank you!!!

I also wanted to say, Thank You, especially because you are getting out their when you would rather be in bed! Your selfless determination to help others is like the movie “Pay it Forward”. You will be blessed as you are blessing others, they are passing it along! With the help of your wonderful blogs I was able to donate a lot of coupon items high quality name brand to the Christian Clinic, the Diabetes House, the meters free with 10 strips. Hospice House, lots of soups and toiletries for family members who may have forgotten them in the rush to be near their loved ones. My family and Church. These are really your blessings for I could not have done any of this without your selfless hard work! Thank you so much, again.
