Walgreens Updates From The Field (5/27)

by Christie Bisbee on May 27, 2012

Here are some Walgreens updates from my trip today. Hope they help & enjoy! 🙂

SKINTIMATE DEAL: Turns out the Skintimate Shave Gel isn’t included in the Register Reward deal even though it’s advertised and pictured. My buddy Mitchell over at Frugal Finders found this sign at his store. I purchased the Skintimate Cream (the one circled) and it rang up $2.99 and I did get my register reward. Unfortunately, I only had the coupon with me that was good for the gel not the cream so make sure you have the coupon that includes the cream.

Walgreens Deal
Buy (1) Skintimate Shave Cream $2.99
$0.55/1 Skintimate Shave Gel or Cream Shave, exp. 6/23/12 (SS 05/13/12)
Total = $2.44, Get Back $2 RR
= $0.44 EACH

OSCAR MAYER DEAL: Yay! The Oscar Mayer deal worked for me! I purchased (5) of these – a mix of ham and turkey and got my $4 Register Reward, making them only $1.70 each, which is an awesome price. You can’t tell from the picture but my store had about 7-8 of each kind.

If you want to be sure it’s available in your area, I would suggest heading over to COUPONNETWORK to check based on your zip code that this Catalina deal comes up for you at Walgreens. This is also a GREAT way to roll those small $0.99 Register Rewards since there’s no coupon for this deal, it’s a great filler.

$4 RR WYB (5), $3 WYB (4), $2 WYB (3) Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Shaved Meat 9oz 2/$5
Buy (5) Oscar Mayer Deli Shaved Meat 9oz 2/$5
Total = $12.50, Get Back $4 RR
= $1.70 EACH

TECNU GEL: Look for this one in the First Aid Isle by the anti-itch products. It was on the top shelf at my store and it took me forever to find it. I’m 5’2″ so things on the top shelf are literally over my head! 😉 This is a great product to have around so I’m super excited to try this freebie.

YOUTHEORY COLLAGEN: This is actually found by the vitamins. Don’t ask my why when I think of Collagen I think of skincream, but these are pills found in a box in the vitamin isle.

ECOTRIN: This deal worked like a charm and my store was very well stocked! I plan on getting a couple of the BC or Goody powder for me later this week. Those small pks are perfect to keep in your purse and I swear it’s the only thing that helps my headaches.

VANITY FAIR NAPKINS: This was my only failure today. My store was totally out of Vanity Fair Napkins. I’ll try back later in the week, but if they don’t come in, this is a perfect item to get a rain check for. Walgreens rain checks normally don’t have expiration dates on them, and the insert coupons are good till August.

So how did your shop go? Find any great deals? Let us know! 🙂

Hi Christie. I have a question about the Vanity Fair napkins. I ran into a manager today that told me I could not use the $1/2 coupon because I was only buying one pack of napkins and getting the other free. I told her no, their policy states up to 2 coupons can be used on a b1g1 promotion. I didn’t have the policy with me, so I went to another Walgreens a few miles away and had no issues using the coupons. When I went back to the original store, I showed her the policy and she insisted she was correct, that it only applies when using a b1g1 coupon. Her argument made no sense to me so I returned what I purchased at her store and contacted corporate for clarification. I’ve coupon shopped at Walgreens for a few years now and have never run into this. Have I been interpreting this part of the policy incorrectly or is this manager wrong? I haven’t heard from corporate yet, so I was just wondering.

Thanks for your awesome site, by the way!

No, you are right and your manager is just confused. 😛 Glad you enjoy the site and I’m even more glad you got your napkins! 🙂

I had the same problem with the shave gel. None of the ones at my Walgreen’s were ringing up as 2.99 so they price modified it to .99 from the picture in the add and then I used my .55 coupon. I didn’t get the register rewards since they “used” it in the price modify. Still, I only paid .45 for it so I can’t complain.

I don't shop @ Walmart May 27, 2012 at 4:18 pm

At my store Colgate Total Advanced had $15 coupon booklet attached to the box!! Inside coupons for more Colgate toothpaste and toothbrushes, Softsoap, Irish Spring, Speed Stick, and Palmolive products. Great, high value coupons!!! So, check your shelves before purchasing 😉

I bought the ecotrin this morning and wast told that it would give RR using the 1.50 coupons! I still bought it becasue it was a product I use and paid 3c for two bottles. Didn’t question cashier becasue she is my favoirte cashier and my walgreens so didin’t want to make any waves. Anyone else come across this. This was at the Morris, IL walgreens.

Jill May 27, 2012 at 5:14 pm

I used 1 $1.50 and 1 $1 coupon for the ecotrin and my RR printed fine.

I used two $1.50 coupons for the Ecotrin and my RR printed.

I used TWO $1.50 coupons and I got RR at Largo Florida store.

I got the Skintimate cream today, but the coupon from 5/13 SS beeped. The cashier pushed it through since it did say “gel or cream,” but just a note that it might beep for you. I also had a hard time finding the Tecnu, but I had no problems with that. I was really confused on the collagen, so I asked and an employee brought me one from the back – had no problems with RR on that one. One store only had one box of Ecotrin left, but a second one had a big stock, so I got four of them there to get some extra RR for free!
After I bought the Tecnu, I got a coupon for $3/2 Pantene that said “Thanks for being a loyal customer”; I know there are some from the newspaper, but it was nice to have right there because I found a few types of Pantene that were on clearance at one store. Got about $50 worth of product today at Wags for only about $2! Awesome! Thanks Christie!

My WAGS had lots of Vanity Fair napkins left, and I was lucky enough to snag the last 2 boxes of Ecotrin on the shelf. I was also able to use my 2.00 Kingsford charcoal qs on the 2/8.00 sale. The sizes matched up, so only 2.00 ea. There must have been at least 10 bags ea of the regular and the maqtchlight, as well as the lighter fluid. My brother is a loyal charcoal griller only, so will add these to his b’day gift! i didn’t do the Skintimate or the first aid gel deal, but did notice lots of stock on the shelf for both items. Both WAGS and CVS seemed quiet today. I suppose lots of folks out camping and picnicking for the holiday.

Important! The Colgate RR are ROLLING in Sioux City Iowa…not sure about anywhere else. I did this at 2:30 CST today! 🙂

I had a previous $3 ecotrin coupon that came from Wags catalina. I bought 2 ecotrin and handed the cashier the $3 off coupon and it went thru with no problems! To make it even better, out printed another ecotrin coupon for $2 off any ecotrin. I went to another Wags further up the street and bought 2 more ecotrin and the coupon went right thru. But did not receive any more ecotrin coupons.

Reply

Stacie May 27, 2012 at 5:44 pm

I got that $2 coupon too. Haven’t used it yet. Was wondering if it would affect RR since they were both $2. Did your RR still print? Thanks.

Did Tecnu, Collagen, Ecotrin, and Colgate deals. Had to hunt for the Tecnu & Collagen because those did not have any shelf labels at all, not the regular price labels and not the sale/RR deals. Used 19 cent clearance Easter pencils as fillers.

Judy May 27, 2012 at 5:19 pm

I had the same problem with Skintimate. I purchased the shave gel and used the 55 cent coupon but did not receive the $2 RRs. The clerk at the front assumed that I didn’t get the RRs because I had used a coupon. When I asked to return the Skintimate, I was sent to a clerk in the photo department, who ever so patiently worked and worked to help me out. She told me that the store had just gotten new computers, so she figured that accounted for the problem with my transaction.. In the end, she reduced the price to 99 cents and accepted my coupon. Needless to say, I was quite happy by the time I left the store.

Abbe May 27, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Got the last 2 Ecotrin at my store, found the Tecnu with no problems. Did have an issue getting the Skintimate gel (RR did not print), but the manager just rang up the cream to make it print…I thought that the Summer’s Eve products were BOGO, but it wasn’t in the ad and it had no signs to say otherwise so I skipped that 🙁

Reply

Sarah May 27, 2012 at 5:38 pm

The Summer’s Eve was the same at my store as you mentioned, but I did a price check and they were indeed BOGO.

Reply

Lindsay S. May 27, 2012 at 6:12 pm

Hey Abbe, I believe the Summer’s Eve BOGO deal is in the online only ad (Bonus Buys), so it’s likely the stores won’t have signs for it. You might check the products you want with the cashier and see – it should work I think!

My Wags cashier handed me a mail in on the Skintimate the minute I walked up to the register. It is printed clearly that it’s for the RR for the skintimate since ‘this store is not set up for the coupon machine yet’…even though it is and I got the RRs on everything else. I’ve got it ready to mail, but I might look later this week for the other version to see if it works without spending a stamp on it.

I got the Tecnu, Kelloggs Cereal and Irish Spring rr. Was very disappointed that no one in the store could locate the 9 Collagen they said they had on hand. I also bought the Colgate toothpaste and a dozen of the Arizona teas. I do have a question though… as I am relatively new to this, when I don’t see a limit advertised – is there one? The manager made a big deal out of asking me not to wipe him out on the Arizona teas.
Spent $21 on $60 worth of merchandise today! Thank you all for the great advice.

Reply

Me May 27, 2012 at 11:29 pm

They have the right to set one if they see that someone is rudely trying to clear the shelf.

Reply

Andrew May 28, 2012 at 6:18 am

If you’re “relatively new”, I suggest getting to know your store managers! That’s the first thing I always stress to those who ask me on how to start out. The reason I bring this up is because a few weeks back? (Sorry I don’t remember), there was a deal on the Arizona teas ($.50/each?), and I think my store ordered for people who wanted to “stock up” for them by the case loads. That way, the store still had a shelf of Arizona, and those who wanted big amounts didn’t have to “clear shelves”. I don’t drink Arizona, so I didn’t pay much attention to those happenings at all :s

My store is very on top of their game and already has all the sale items for the next week, the week before. All I do is phone in and tell them which items I need, and the quantity. That way when I come to the store on Sunday, everything is set aside for me, so I don’t need to touch the aisles (besides scanning for new clearance tags of course!). I know that sounds all concierge, but that’s from a result from building a good relationship with the store managers and employees at my fav. WG location- most of them are now couponers too! We all trade coupons like pokemon cards, and “help” each other out. The only thing I don’t help is the “frustration” of them couponing with their 15% employee discount that usually throws off all their rolling transactions. Good luck! 🙂

I found Irish spring deodorant (regular not antipersperant) on clearance for $1.99 I bought 2 and used (2).50/1 coupons paid 2.98 and got back $3 RR! I love finding surprise freebies!

Awesome day, went out about 10am, my store had everything that I went there for. And the manager even price adjusted the 8 Skintimates to .99 because the rr didn’t print on my 1st transaction, was no sign at my store. I was ablble to flip 4 of each, First Aid Gel and Youtherapy, filled with batteries for the summer. 🙂

I had a question about the rain check. Are the rainchecks at walgreens like the ones at cvs, where you can get th register rewards for them after that or is it just for the sale price?

Reply

Venessa May 28, 2012 at 12:29 am

In my experience, they usually give you the price taking the Register Reward into account. For example, if the item was $4 with a $1 RR, they write the raincheck for $3 since the RR won’t print after the (week long or month long) period in which it was running.

Reply

Layla May 28, 2012 at 12:30 pm

Most will only give a raincheck for the sale price and will not adjust it in any way. Venessa, you are extremely lucky. I’ve never heard of a Wags doing that. Wish mine did.

Reply

Venessa May 28, 2012 at 1:24 pm

I didn’t know that wasn’t normal! I only shop at this one location. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn’t change!

It’s weird to me that there’s so much variation in how Walgreens can handle
different situations. At least in this case, I got the most beneficial interpretation! They’re really strict on BOGO 50%, though, so those deals are rarely fabulous for me. Ya win some, ya lose some!

Reply

Jaime May 28, 2012 at 2:50 pm

I also get rain checks at my store for items that have register rewards on them, they adjusted the price when the product comes in. But I’ve also went to other stores and found out they dont write rain checks for items that have register rewards. Which doesn’t make sense. All Walgreens should be the same.

Nicky O. May 28, 2012 at 12:28 am

I was able to get the Collagen, rang that up first and rolled that one to get the first aid gel, then used that RR to get the Colgate, 6 Ecotrins (our store had a ton!), 2 Pantenes on clearance which were free after coupon, a Glade Sense & Spray on clearance which was only $1.49 w/coupon, batteries and tape. Also found some Sally Hansen Hair remover creme on clearance for $4.49, so stacked my $2 printable and $2 Walgreen’s coupon to make it .49! My manager gave me a form too for the Skintimate since it wouldn’t print out, and price modified it to $2.99, but I am taking it back tomorrow because thanks to Christie’s update, those ones were not covered (my store had no signs and even the manager had no clue what was going on), they won’t send me one and I don’t want to waste a stamp. Kinda just wish they would have rang it up at .99 like some other managers did for other people O:

Reply

Susan May 28, 2012 at 1:36 am

You can do it online and also by mail. I did this once and got 2 RR’s for the same thing. Actually, I might have called on the phone too. I got 2 RR’s that I hadn’t gotten (for the one that didn’t print). So it was a double bonus.

Reply

Penelope May 28, 2012 at 2:59 am

My store in Prairie Village, KS had both the shave cream and selected shave gels at 2.99. I didn’t have any trouble with them ringing up incorrectly and the register rewards printed just fine.

Reply

Andrew May 28, 2012 at 6:01 am

Did not try the shave gel because I still have enough from the CVS sales 🙁 So no comment on that one..

My favorite Walgreens store saved me 6 Ecotrins, so I got three $2 RR’s.
They also ordered ~100 each of the collagen and the tecnu gels, so I got three of each to roll the RR’s (put the gels in my three emergency kits for me, mom, and dad- you should have one for each family member, not “a family kit”)

For those who use the “Yes To” line of skincare products, the Buy one get 2nd 50% off sale this week also applies to their clearanced items! There’s a PDF “Save $3 when you purchase $10 of Yes To” products coupon, and also one on coupons.com (if it’s still available).
Some of the cucumber and carrot products are all on clearance at all 4 of my Walgreens stores. The cheapest Cucumber conditioner/body wash are on clearance for $4.49 at my favorite store. The carrot sunscreen is $6.99 (zinc oxide), and the carrot facial wash is $3.99.

Watch out for your store’s “clearance section/rack” if they have one- mine has some chinet plates on clearance, but the coupon out is $0.55/1. I’ll wait for the price to drop a bit so I can be all fancy-schmancy with the Vanity fair napkins deal from this week. HAHA.

Good luck and happy couponing everyone! Thanks for everyone’s input, and thanks Christie for all the posts!

Rainchecks are only written up for the sale price….not including the rr. If something is $4.99 on sale with a $1.00 rr the raincheck should be written out only for $4.99

Reply

Jaime May 28, 2012 at 2:54 pm

My store writes rain checks with the rr included. Never had a problem with them writing those for me. But other store won’t write them. I think all Walgreens should do this. It’s the managers fault half the time they should make sure they have a stock of all items with rr. There should be a policy for this. Either you do write them or not.

Reply

Guest May 29, 2012 at 12:17 am

It’s almost never the manager’s fault. Whether or not the merchandise shows up when ordered is the manufacturers or warehouses fault.

I received (3) Catalinas a while back from the Rembrandt deal for $2 off any Listerine Whitening Rinse.

Went to one Walgreens and used the $2 Cat. Saw the receipt and it rang up as $1.49 instead of $3.99, using $2 Cat and getting $1 RR = $1.51 money maker and then 2 more Listerine Catalina came out $2 off 2 and $3 off 3.

Tried another Walgreens, rang up at $3.99, minus $2 Cat getting $1 RR = $0.99 and then 1 more Listerine Catalina came out $1 off 1.

Not bad for 2 free bottles of Whitening Rinse. And it’s amazing how the Walgreens within 3 miles of each other can have different prices.

My cashier advised me that they are getting new cash registers soon. These registers will only allow the cashier to accept RR BEFORE a MQ. How will this work? I’m so used to handing the MQ’s first

yesterday i was at a place with new registers. the funny thing was i had 3 items, 3 MQ and 1 RR. i thought i needed a filler item, but i did not. there wasn’t any beeping at all. maybe we won’t need filler items in the future? that would be nice.

I had this happen too. I just kept handing over my rr q’s. I used way more q’s than I had product for. But the cashier just kept running them through. I’m guessing it must’ve been a gliche in the system.

I did the Ecotrin deal today with two of the $1.50 coupons and paid 0. The RR didn’t print. I asked the manager why the RR did not print and he said it is because I used coupons. Is this true? Can I still get the $2 RR? Thanks.

No that’s not right. Read my post below…

To see what to do if your Register Reward doesn’t print – you can call Catalina to get your RR.
