Walgreens: Updates From the Field 4/15

by Christie Bisbee on April 15, 2012

Here are some updates from my Walgreens trip today to help your trip go a bit smoother!

LYSOL DUAL ACTION WIPES: I was pretty excited to find these B1G1 FREE packs of Lysol Dual Action Wipes at my store! Some of you are also finding these at your stores too. (thanks so much kaclovesshoes & Kumiko! :-)) Although these would not work for the rebate (rebate says single packages only), they are still a fabulous deal! And no stamp or fussing with a rebate needed. 😉

Buy (2) Lysol Dual Action B1G1 Free packs 2/$6
$1/2 Lysol disinfecting wipes, exp. 5/16/12 (SS 04/15/12)
Total = $5, Get Back $2 RR
Like Paying $.75 EACH!

NASAL EASE: I stopped by my closest and favorite Walgreens only to find 1 Nasal Ease left! And I only found it because someone had hidden it behind another product (if you are looking for your hidden Nasal Ease – sorry I beat you to it! ;)). However store #2 was a Nasal Ease paradise with at least 15 of them on the shelf! Yay! No issues with my coupons. My $9 Register Reward printed with no problems.

SIMILASAN: Found plenty of Similasan everywhere! There’s also a $1/1 Similasan printable coupon available, if you didn’t get the $1.50 coupon. This is a pdf but it’s on the Similasan USA website and it expires 10/31/12. Certainly better than no coupon at all. (Thanks Roxanne!)

PEPSI NEXT: This one actually prints as $.99 Register Reward. Some of you e-mailed me about finding $.50/1 Pepsi next tearpads at your grocery store so be on the lookout! (Thanks Lisa, Gina & KT)

FILLERS: I was a bit at a loss for fillers this week. There’s only so many Hunt’s tomato sauce a girl needs. I think I was spoiled by Easter pencils. So if you have some good filler ideas for this week let me know!

So what great deals did you all find today? How did your shop go? Let us know! 🙂

Some of the Similasan boxes have a $2 coupon attached to them. Mine had a display right as you walked in with plenty. But I looked on the shelf in the allergy section and those ones had the $2 coupons. Good luck!

The $2 are expired, I used it at the first store not realizing it and it went though, but the 2nd store said it was a 2011 coupon. All my store had tons of everything. My issue was 2 store were not printing the RR the 2 nasal products, they offered me a mail in….I just did a return and went to another store that did have them working.

Brenda April 16, 2012 at 1:41 am

Yeah, I got excited when I saw the $2 peelies to and then noticed that they were expired! Oh well, the $1.50 coupon is good enough!

I had asked my store to order 5 of the nasal ease for me. So my first 5 transactions were that using 4rr from luster and the $5 coupon. Then I did the dove hair care deal twice using 2 $2 coupons and 2 $1 coupons and paid with the 9rr. Then I got 2 purex, 3 dawn hand renewal dishsoap, and two Splenda and used a 9rr to pay for that. I used 75% off Easter candy as fillers. I’m a teacher and needed candy for school.

I found 4 Nasal Eases to match my 4 $5 off coupons. Got 2 Therma Cares used 1 coupon, got the $3 rr which I used at Jewel for butter and paid .07 out of pocket at the grocery store. Depending on the Jewels deals next week, I should get some good freebies since I have $36 in rr to spend there and a $1 off produce store coupon.

Reply

kelsie April 15, 2012 at 6:09 pm

Which coupon did you have that worked for the thermacare? None of the ones I had were a match!

Lately I have noticed that all of my register rewards say “redeemable only at wal-greens” so I figured I couldn’t spend them anywhere else anymore?

Reply

Jackie B April 15, 2012 at 8:12 pm

My Kroger store takes RR’s – they are a manufacturers coupon. Just ask your store and see.

Reply

Julie April 16, 2012 at 10:24 am

I have used Wags RR’s in the past at safeway, randalls, and krogers, but I just thought it odd that now they are printing out with “manufacturere’s coupon” at the top, but then at the bottom “redeemable only at wal-greens” so I guess they don’t want people spending them at other retailers…

Debbie April 15, 2012 at 5:55 pm

All the Easter candy’s are on clearance for 50% off. I got the Cadbury eggs for 25 cents. I checked 4 Walgreens in my area and all where out of the Nasal Ease by 10am. bummer!!!

we’re not much for pepsi products around here, but I plan to donate them to my daughter’s girl scout troops’ end of year party:)

I bought 6 packages of Nice cheese (mix & match cheeses), 1 Nice wax paper and 1 Wags paper plates, got back a $2RR plus I used the Wags Prescription Savings card that added $1.11 for next use, so it was kinda like paying about a $1 for each item. I’m good with that considering it’s difficult to find 8oz cheese in any brand for that price!

Has anyone else had problems with the new registers crashing when doing the Nasal Ease deal? I was alternating transactions
buying (1) Nasal Ease /(2) Nivea Shave Gel and getting $9 RR and $2 RR
then
buying Similisan and Cottonelle , using $9 RR paying .50 OOP,
Did this 3 times, alternating RR’s no problem
then
bought (1) Nasal Ease and (1) Cottonelle and caramel filler, used $6 RR (Similisan) & $2 RR (Nivea)
Coupon for Nasal Ease and RR’s scanned fine, my balance was $1.39 and all of a sudden the register crashed and had to be rebooted (new registers)
They took me to another register and the same thing happened!
Then they took me to photo register and same thing!!! I didn’t want to crash their only remaining register in case it was being caused by my transaction so I left!
I went back this afternoon and tried it again….. AND IT CRASHED AGAIN!?!?!?!?!
They said it took 45 minutes for the two front registers to come back online this morning! I feel horrible I caused such a headache for them!
I’m wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Or am I having the worst luck ever?

Reply

Mary April 15, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Embarrassingly enough, I have had it happen to me three times with the new registers. Thankfully my mom is an employee, so they all know me and don’t give me too hard a time. Usually, the second time they ring it up (even if everything is identical to the failed transaction) I have no problems. I have also found that for some reason it had been happening every time I try to scan my own credit card. If I give them my card to scan at the screen, I have no problems.

Reply

Vic April 15, 2012 at 7:07 pm

Same thing happened to me the system crashing in St. Paul. We discovered at my stores that it was the $2 Nivea coupon triggering the system to freeze. The cashiers had to manually enter the coupon as a $2 man coupon instead of scanning it. I went to three stores today (since I have several around me and then I buy only 2 of the same item at each store so as not to clear shelves). If you go back… ask them to manually enter the $2 RR so as not to freeze the system. Good luck!

Reply

Vic April 15, 2012 at 7:08 pm

** meant to say it was the $2 Nivea REGISTER REWARD (not man coupon) that caused the freeze. 🙂

Reply

Stacey April 15, 2012 at 7:13 pm

I used my Nivea $2 RR this afternoon and it caused no problem. Maybe they got it fixed.

Reply

Joe April 15, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Thank you so much! I wanted to do this transaction again but was afraid to. I live in Oregon and we did not get the Nasal Ease coupons here in either of the two papers sold locally so I ordered them from a clipping service, since no one around her got the coupons our stores have FULL shelves!
Thanks again!

wendy April 15, 2012 at 7:10 pm

Joe I had them crash on me about five times last night at my 24hr store. i was rolling silmilisan, nasal ease, goody and cottonelle. When paying for the 2 cottonelle with the 9RR from the nasal ease and the 1RR from the goody…every time he scanned the 1RR it would crash the system. The manager said it has something to do with new barcodes on the RRs. they would have to cover up the two on the right of the RR and only let it scan the barcode.

Reply

Joe April 15, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Thanks, I thought I was cursed or something! 🙂

Reply

Roxanne April 15, 2012 at 7:30 pm

@Joe, I was paying for Similasan, thermacare and pepsi using 2 RRs from last week and crashed two registers once she entered the second RR after coupons. The ass’t manager came over and she did some sort of override and then it went through. Luckily it was early (no customers) and the registers rebooted within 10 minutes. The cashier told me it’s been happening alot lately and she didn’t know why.

Reply

Mary April 16, 2012 at 11:03 am

I had this happen to me several weeks back with the B1G1 Right Guard RR deal … I never got as far as them being able to Total my transaction, it crashed twice and each time when they tried to scan the last RR. They ended up splitting up my transactions, which worked out better for me cause I paid less out of pocket by them allowing me to do more than the store limit of two transactions.

Reply

Marissa April 15, 2012 at 6:22 pm

My Walgreens is awesome!!! To allow everyone a chance to get the FREE products they limit the number you are allowed to buy to 2 (identical items) per household per day. I am one of 4 exterme couponers in my city and we all love the rule. We all get a chance at the FREE items and don’t have to worry about the shelves being cleared before we get there.

Reply

Jaclyn Wilson April 16, 2012 at 1:35 am

@marissa if your walgreens has the newer touch screen registars mine does it only allows two of the same RR to print per the payment card you use it has slowed the out of stock problem here also 🙂

Reply

Kent April 16, 2012 at 3:41 am

One of our local Wags got a new manager last year that decided only one of each RR item per customer. Most of her couponers abandoned the store and sales dropped. Now she wants ‘us’ back and we can do multiple transactions. If you have a store that is always out of the best deals it is not always the fault of the ‘extreme’ couponers. It is more the failure of the manager to order extra stock to accommodate the customers. I remember a Proglide razor deal where one store ordered an extra dozen or so, while another store ordered over 200 (we got 40 of them).

Karin April 15, 2012 at 6:27 pm

All I got is just some free Aquafresh toothpastes only, but it made my day! Totally free, and my hubby said the cashier was so impressed and she asked him where he found that $1/1 coupons!

Reply

Mary April 16, 2012 at 11:16 am

I purchased the last Aquafresh pump at my local Walgreen’s … the cashier, who just returned from maternity leave asked where I got the coupon. I gladly told her. Later, while at another Walgreen’s I realized that the Aquafresh Kid’s paste (one in the box – not the pump kind), is also working with IVC coupon and is ringing up $2, but wasn’t labeled on sale at any of the stores I went to. Was able to use the last of my coupons …
FYI: I also stopped by CVS and used my Colgate coupons on the Kids Colgate 2-in-1 toothpaste included in their $2.99 get back $2 ECB deal. No beeps, but later I realized the coupon indicates several different kinds of Colgate toothpaste, not specific to Kids Toothpaste.

If you do find the $2 peelie coupons on your Similasan, please check the date on it before using it. Even if it goes through without beeping, you are committing coupon fraud by using an EXPIRED coupon. Walgreen’s will NOT get reimbursed for it. Please, let’s be honest with our couponing so it doesn’t get harder for us in the future.

Reply

Bethanie April 15, 2012 at 6:37 pm

I didn’t look at the date. I was going to use my $1.50 and the assistant manager told me “use the $2 one off the box”. I was like OOOOHHH. Didn’t get a chance to check them, she ripped all 4 off during my transactions. Guess Walgreens employee committed coupon fraud!!! 😀

I know that there will be some people who unknowingly use an expired, I just want the one’s who “knowingly” do it to please get a conscience.

Reply

Edda April 17, 2012 at 10:41 am

So true tessanoel74 we have to keep an eye and read the Q carefully before handing them out. I was so pleased when I saw those $2 Q and there was these employee picking it up and I told him about the expiration date of 2011. My cashier is so nice and she was telling me that there were $2 Q pellies I told her they had expired and she tells I just scanned it to an employee. I replied I imagine to the one I just told that those Q were no good.
It really gets you upset when you do things right and the employees knowing the rules are the ones that breaks them.

For fillers, I used items on sale from the frozen foods sections. I think there were Jose Ole Steak Chimichangas for .64. These are VERY good. My college girl loves them. Also, one store had the single frozen chicken sandwiches for .25. Some good deals in the frozen foods section!!

Got one of each of the allergy things and had a coupon for each, then gave my sweet cashier my spare couon so she can get the deal too. Not sure why I would need more than one of each of these and I feel like sharing the wealth is the right thing to do. I bought Johnson and Johnson baby products for a shower gift but none of the coupons from today’s paper or the website would scan….and lotion was not ringing at buy1 get1 50 percent. Will have to look for the 12 packs of soda! Thanks all.

One of my tactics is not only giving Q’s but giving the product. This time since they were money makers I gave a few Nasal Ease away, not only to the cashier attending me but to others cashiers that usually are really nice to me.

Samantha April 15, 2012 at 7:19 pm

My Walgreens had jars of Laffy Taffy pieces. Well buckets each piece was 15 cents. It made for an awesome filler.

Reply

Jolene April 15, 2012 at 7:20 pm

My first store I went to I had the same issue with someone hiding the nasal ease. I found it 4 products over behind some other nasal spray. I grabbed the 2 that were hidden. I honestly didn’t feel bad about it either. For fillers I actually ended up using the 99 cent Pepsi. I figured if I had to have a filler I might as well get something back for it. I had no luck on the Aquafresh toothpaste at all!! I wanted 4 since I have 2 kids and they waste so much of it 4 of them would get me through maybe 2 months if I were lucky. I’ll end up getting a rain check on those.

Reply

Roxanne April 15, 2012 at 7:34 pm

Christie, I used the Similasan site $1 printable no problem (no beeps).

For fillers, I used a Russel Stovers easter egg (25 cents ea), pepsi next (I had no Q’s but got the RR deal), $1/3 packets “American Seeds” (watch this one…1 packet only is 99 cents!?), and one of the Wags I went to had small bottles of Clear n’ Natural hand sanitizer on clearance for 49 cents.

When I got there, I couldn’t buy any because they were holding them for a “large corporation”…..whatever that means?? I spent a lot of time, money and gas to get NOTHING! So annoyed!

Tried to buy the Nasal Ease near closing time last night but the RR didn’t print as it had in the past right before closing time on Saturday night. Returned it but frustrated the cashier and manager unintentionally.

Tried to get a Nasal Ease at a different Wags today. Couldn’t find any on the shelf. Caught the manager and a “customer” coming out of a back room with about 8 that the manager handed off to the “customer” who I am assuming was an employee since she was in the back room. How frustrating. Went ahead and bought the Similasan and Pepsi Next.

Found Nasal Ease at the next one. Did two transactions with $2.31 OOP for (1) Nasal Ease (1) Similasan (2) Goody hair bands (1) Ramen (2) single pack of M&Ms (2) Tic Tacs (1) package of plastic forks AND $7 left in RRs! Transactions did not turn out like I intended because the Goody hairbands I picked up rung up $1.09 instead of the $1.99 I was planning on. It did not produce the RR, but the final cost is about the same anyway.

Reply

VB April 15, 2012 at 11:07 pm

That is frustrating. I can never find the great deals at Target near me. I thought it was a case of early bird gets the worm until my brother overheard employees talking about how they cleared the shelves of a great deal so it can be had by the employees. I guess its the perk they get to get first dibbs.

In the past, I complained to the Walgreens store manager about his employees clearing the shelves of all the good deals and holding them for their own purchases on Sunday mornings. He said he did not see anything wrong with that as long as he
got the sales (why did he even bother to open the door ?) Instead he advised me to be at the store earlier – I was there at 9:15 am, the store opened at 9:00am…..all the free items after the register rewards were gone. I called Corporate at least five times, no one had ever called back. Walgreens corporate management doesn’t care. I still check your site every week out of curiosity to see the good deals but I boycott Walgreens.

I try NOT to alert the stores to the hidden deals we discuss, for exact situation that happened to you or they start putting unwritten limits on the items etc… Next time, don’t say a word about RR or anything. Grab what you need and do your purchases (always best to add as many items as possible to this type of transaction – like your NE, similsan, toothpaste etc, so they don’t catch your hidden deal). If by chance RR doesn’t print, simply return/exchange the item once your transaction is finished. “Opps! I made a mistake. I meant to get the single pks instead.”

The opposite happened at my store. They had 4 pks on the shelf, along with tons of singles. I took 2, and asked Mgr (who was cashing me out) if they get the 2pk bonus ones in regularly (hoping more might show up in the week)? He said he wasn’t sure, but if I wanted more pls take them. I told him its ok I don’t want to clear his shelves (he knows I qpon). He said it would be doing him/store a favor cuz a) he needed the shelf space and b) more importantly he didn’t want ppl buying the 2pk and then coming in to return just 1 pack without a receipt (my wags is in a shady/fraud area). Well shucks, he didn’t have to ask me twice!! I came home with all 4 packs/8 wipes!!!

Where in there do you see I asked? This was at 9:15 am on Sunday when I was going to try this. Before I could have seen ‘hidden deals we discuss’.

Oh, maybe I’m confused. I don’t understand how the issue of receiving RR back on an item would come up before you made a purchase… But it doesn’t really matter anyways as you shouldve been allowed to purchase and the store is totally out of line.

Niki~I went and did this deal. The 1st time I did it wrong, and only bought 1~2 pack(B1G1 Free). So it did not print. I went back and bought 2~2packs=4 Lysol wipes(B1G1 Free) used the the $1.00/2 and got a $2 RR from Lysol

Some stores will preorder for you if you have a good relationship with the store manager. So when you check the availability online, it may not be correct.

Interesting learning today …I did the Lysol deal today YAY! ( having 2 coupons 3 with items being purchased)…..so I had 2 packs of Lysol and 1 pencil – used 1 Lysol Q $1/2 and 1 RR…..machine wouldn’t allow it (new machines at my walgreens) ….cashier said the 1/2 coupon was being applied to BOTH Lysols so I needed to buy an extra pencil…..it was my understanding that I couldn’t have more coupons than items (which I didn’t initially)…wondering if new machines/software has changed with the coupons that apply to more than 1 item….any thoughts?

Same happened to me. I had to throw in an Easter candy as filler… My cashier said same thing. Register (new) counted the 2 Lysol wipes as 1 item since the q applies to both.

The bonus pack of Lysol counts as 1 product (1 barcode is scanned), even though it contains 2 canisters. So if you are purchasing the Lysol bonus packs, you need to buy 2 packs to use the q and get the RR.

For those of you with A LOT of tomato sauce that you bought as a filler . . . here’s what I used mine for yesterday . . . Yummy Tomato Soup: Saute 6 T. of butter with 1 medium diced onion until transparent, add 28 oz diced tomatoes, 40 oz tomato sauce, 3 T. chicken base, 6 T. sugar, pinch of salt, black pepper. Bring to a boil. Turn off heat and add 1 1/2 c. heavy cream or half and half, parsley, and basil–I used dried, but fresh may have been better. This recipe is very quick to make and delicious!

Quick venting: I think it’s a bummer that the sales start Sunday! I don’t shop on Sunday for religious reasons, but usually everything’s gone by the time I get there Monday!

I have three kids 3 and under and we’re a one income family, so I can use just about any deal that comes along! Oh well!

Me too Vanessa.
I only have 2 kids tho. My walgreens are always good about unloading their shipments fast so a lot of the time i go on wed instead of mondays. I would suggest finding out when their truck arrives and then asking them when is the best time to come in and do your shopping 🙂

There is a coupon on Coupons.com Buy Any 2 Clorox® Brand products and Get Any One (1) Clorox® Brand Product Free. This is for Saving club members. I was able to purchase 2, use the $1.00/2 coupon and then use the bogo coupon for the third. Would like to mention that I was able to do this on the bogo packs, but the coupon did beep. Cashier rang it thru and I got 3 bogo packs for $5.00 and received the $2.00 RR!

you used a Clorox coupon for Lysol wipes? Or are you talking about another deal in the ad?

I always find it curious that people complain because things are gone by SUnday night yet qualify they won’t shop for religious reasons! Sunday is the sales- go after midnight Saturday night, or find out when the sales start Saturday- it isnt that hard! Or go Sunday after church- I am sure God won’t send you to hell for shopping and providing for your family!!!!! Sorry to vent but it’s annoying. My family knows on the way home from church we will stop. Easy.

As for other deals- don’t forget to look for tear pads on Pepsi Next- 50 cents off. Lots of gas stations have them right now too. Filler items are great this week- clearance things for under .25, Easter candy for 50-75% off. Waiting for my Nivea coupons in the mail!!!

I’m sorry you find it annoying, but my not shopping on any hour of Sunday is more important to me than getting the deals. I don’t think God’s gonna send me to hell if I do, but I’m still going to live my life and set an example for my children that says we do what we think is right even when it’s inconvenient.

My Walgreens all close at ten, so I’m not sure what you even mean by go after midnight on Saturday.. And the sales never work on Saturday night before close, especially the RRs so it’s not really productive to go then. As far as going when the trucks arrive during the week, I keep trying that, but they keep moving delivery dates. Literally, it has changed every month for the last four months. I’ve no idea why. I don’t have time to shop multiple times during the week, as I limit myself to after the kids are asleep and my husband’s home with them, so I need to make my trip count. I’ve tried shopping with a 3, 1, and two month old, and it was a nightmare.

Bottom line is my Walgreens never order extra product for the sales and when I’ve asked the managers if they could, they have all told me the computer orders automatically based on what was sold the previous week. They agree it’s dumb but there’s nothing they can do, so they say.

It’s annoying to plan a trip (which always takes way too long with my munchkins around) and then only be able to get about a third of what I’d planned on. It’s fine llike I said my religious convictions are more important to me, but it is frustrating sometimes.

Re: truck delivery schedule. IF the deliveries are on Wednesday, they will change to Thursday after the next holiday. Then when another holiday causes a skipped delivery, the new delivery day will be Friday. It’s sooo easy,,,, unless of course you have 5 Wags close by and a dozen more not too far away.

good for you!!! we have to put up with so much judgment already for actually being religious and HAVING morals/ethics/convictions/ETC we don’t need it from fellow couponers!

Why is it a big deal that she’s frustrated? She is just hoping that somebody selfish doesn’t clear the place out at 12:01 am (for 24 hour stores) or first thing in the morning- it’s totally different if it’s just sold out because it’s a popular item—

And good for you that your family “knows” that you stop at Wags after church- i’ve done it a few times and it’s enough to have my husband say “I’m not going to church because you want to go to Walgreens afterwards and I am NOT spending 2 hours on my day off in a freakin’ drugstore!!!” (he exaggerates) so I have to find time during the week to drive the HOUR to the nearest wags- all with my one year old in tow- so just count your blessings that you have stores nearby that actually HAVE deals! LOL

I tried to hold my tongue but can’t. Just need to say . . . a person can have “morals/ethics/convictions/etc” without being religious.

On the DOVE DEAL I was able to get the Men + Care body wash with a BONUS of a 1.7 deodorant. My $2 Q were beeping for the shampoo and conditioner even though it says for these 2 and the styling product. The funny thing is that they were not beeping for the treatment and hair mask. I had shampoo and conditioner from previous offers, so now I have the complete hair line woohoo….

Scored FREE razors today. BIC Comfort 3 disposable razors 4ct are part of the BOGO 50% sale. There were $3 MQs in my paper on 4/15. Razors were $3.99, with BOGO total of $5.98. We have new registers at my Walgreens, and I had to tell the cashier how to enter the second coupon because it did beep. She pressed the payment key, then the manufacturer coupon button, and then enter the coupon amount of $2.98 and voila! free razors. I did have to pay tax, but still!!
