Crazy Chapstick Coupon Now = FREE Chapstick!

by Christie Bisbee on February 16, 2012

Reader Kurleigh e-mailed me to let me know that the $1/1 ChapStick Lip Care .15oz coupon in the February book is now working on the regular Chapstick priced at .99.

Now what’s super crazy, is that I tried using it earlier this month on the same exact chapstick and it did NOT work. So, I went back to the same store I tried it at earlier this month and today it TOTALLY worked.  How wacky is that?!

So, I don’t know why it’s suddenly working but I can say it did for me. I purchased the cherry and the regular because, well, as you can see it’s all there was. 😉 The coupon automatically adjusted to $1.98 (the price of two) to make them FREE.

So, again earlier in the month I got a beep, today it ran right thru – so if you had the same experience earlier this month you may want to give it another try!

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (1) Chapstick .15oz .99
-$1/1 ChapStick Lip Care .15oz (5083) Walgreens coupon February book
= FREE!

Let us know if it works for you and what kind you got!

(Thanks Kurleigh!)

FREE sounds great but that is misleading – you still pay sales tax; don’t misread my intent: Not having to pay .99 cents and only paying .9 cents is great…..I bought 10 and paid .90 cents BAM!

Reply

wendy February 18, 2012 at 7:47 pm

There was NO sales tax on the ones I bought,so they were free for me,,,not misleading!!!!

angela February 16, 2012 at 10:45 pm

It just worked for me and it did not work earlier with the bogo. I did not have to pay taxes either which was nice because i have paid tax before on “free” items. Yeah!!!!

not at my walgreens in the bay area 🙁 the ones on sale were blistex

I’m in the Bay Area as well. My store had no signs up, so I grabbed a hand full of different kinds of Chapstick to price check at the registers. The .99cents are the classic/original ones.

I bought the apple, vanilla and strawberry. Used the coupon in the book, no beeps, was able to get 6 at one time.

It worked!(: I got 50 because my brother is a soldier and I wanted to donate it. Used the 1 coupon and only paid $3.84. There will be troops with moisturized lips thanks to you. (:

My sister and i got 90 altogether and did 2 seperate transactions, they were all free and didn’t have to pay sales tax and there were no beeps. No shelves were cleared.

Becky February 17, 2012 at 12:39 am

Worked great for me too! Got a bunch at 2 different stores (without clearing the shelves). I got cherry, strawberry, green apple, vanilla mint, spearmint, medicated, and original. I’ll send a bunch of it to school for my son’s teacher (they do what’s called “smellies” which is rubbing it on the spot between thumb and index finger – kids love it!).

My two close stores would not allow me to use that Q in the booklet for these chapsticks – said it must be the one pictured. 🙁

Reply

Aimee February 17, 2012 at 8:17 am

Is there a limit on how many you can buy with one coupoon? It sounds like you can buy as many as you want seeing as someone bought 90 in only 2 transactions but I want to make sure before I get to the register. TIA

Pat February 17, 2012 at 8:39 am

I thought the coupons in the monthly book would only work on one item! Is that true with all of the time that one coupon works for multiple items?

Reply

Shell February 17, 2012 at 3:39 pm

I have previously used 1 coupon on multiple items from the coupon book. The register automatically deducts the correct amount. Of course, the most I ever bought at once of an item was 4… never tried 90… thats a little crazy! lol

Aimee February 17, 2012 at 7:04 pm

I ended up getting 10 at one store and 10 at another, both had tons of them. One they were advertised at being .99 and one wasn’t but rang up .99.

Does anyone know if the got2be coupons will beep if you have two and you use two coupons will the second beep…if it does my walgreens will be like an act of congress to get them to take the second one…just wondering before I go….

Reply

Darla February 17, 2012 at 9:18 am

Yes mine beeped, they had to change the to 1 @ 3.99 & 1 @ 2.99 & adjust the 2nd q to 2.99 hope this helps

Reply

Michelle R. February 17, 2012 at 9:33 am

Yes the second one will beep. Good Luck.

Wow Amy, that’s kinda harsh! I work at Walgreens and I love to see couponers do well. I can’t tell you how many times I given out this and other websites to help my customers do well. It’s such a shame that you feel that way.

sarrah February 17, 2012 at 11:21 am

Kensie,
I wish more Wags employees were more like you. I myself have come across some anti coupon employees in my time and can not understand how they feel it is ok to judge the customer by a piece of paper or lack of payment. Thank you for being helpful to your customers but dont think that all employees express the same feelings as you or execute customer service like yourself. Again Thank you and wish there were more of you 🙂

campanita February 17, 2012 at 12:28 pm

I love Walgreens, most of the employees are really nice/helpful but some are just mean. I started couponing last year but I’ve been doing the RR for years, so I paid full price for some items before, I noticed that a few cashiers are mean not just to couponers but for costumers that pay retail. Also I wish there were more like you 🙂

In Enfield, CT there a few “really good cashiers” that can’t wait to see what my total OOP will be when I go on Sundays. That makes me feel good & the customers kind of get involved too & their mouths drop open. A couple weeks ago I had one transaction that was for $34.44 in product & OOP was $.47; the second was for $212.61 in product & $.55 in OOP. So, a total of $247.05 for $1.02 OOP – All the “strategy” from the night before paid off. A great combination of coupons (plus the Star Wars B1G1 sale w/a coupon that also offered B1G1) & RR’s.
However, it is unfortunate that there are still way too many that are not friendly & and/or trained properly. And this goes for the managers. Thank Goodness for the Cashiers that make you feel like a star or at least a regular customer rather than like you are poor or stealing from Walgreen’s. They make their policies, which are odd, but even they can’t get it right. Enough said – Thank-you Christie & all the Good Walgreen’s employees’!!! 🙂

I actually had a cashier refuse to take my coupons for this item today. I was only buying 4 and of course the last coupon beeps… I told her, I think you need to adjust it down 2 cents for it to work.

She scrolls the register tape up and says, “Oh I see, well we don’t do that because then you would be paying nothing for these items.”

I said, ok… took my coupons back and went to the wags down the street and they were happy to help me.

I knew I shouldn’t have went to that location. =(

Reply

Jane February 17, 2012 at 1:17 pm

WOW this gives a new meaning to “this little piggy went to market” Sorry guys but buying 64-90 chapsticks at one time (even if you are donating and no shelves are cleared)is preventing a lot of OTHER people from getting at least one. Very excessive IMO and selfish.

Reply

Lisa February 17, 2012 at 2:12 pm

Settle down Jane. Implying that people are pigs for taking advantage of a good deal is not cool. I haven’t seen any posts on here with people saying they couldn’t buy ONE, as you said. Maybe you should worry a little bit more about yourself then what other people are respectfully doing. Mind your own business.

Shell February 18, 2012 at 12:47 am

Well, here’s your first then. My wags was completely wiped out of these.

Normally I would agree with the excessive chap stick amount, but when every store has them in almost every isle, by the registrars, and in their normal spot, I see nothing wrong with the number taken as long as there’s plenty left.

There is one day left in the sale, and typically there’s a Walgreens or four with in a 2 mile radius alone. This is not the typical scenario.

Hello,

I bought over 200 form different stores adn i did not clear shelves at any of them… I am donating them to the womens shelter we have in our town.

Just got back from Walgreens. The chapstick was not marked $0.99, but thought that I would price check them anyway…rang up at $0.99. Picked up a few and got them all for FREE. Cashier said that she was going to go back and pick some up for herself. Thanks so much for posting about this because I would never have thought to look for this…especially since this was unmarked at my store.

I live in an area that had terrible wildfires all summer long, and fire stations were all asking for donations of chapstick, so I am hoping to donate the few that I picked up today to the fire station that my sons’ school adopted.

Jane, I agree I read a comment on another
Site that someone got 116. That’s hoarding,
Not right

Reply

Debby February 17, 2012 at 4:46 pm

I agree with Jane and Sue, sorry but this is why Walgreens where I live is giving us couponer’s such a hard time, and the most I ever got of an item at one time was 4 and I felt good but greedy. I have to fight with the cashier’s everytime to do this.

Reply

debra February 17, 2012 at 4:54 pm

And I thought my 10 was a lot. My Wags had a ton of them and the deal was not advertised. They did not ring up on sale and the manager price modified each one. I would have felt like a heel if I had 116 or even 20. I understand donating and I donate a lot but you should really leave some for others as well. Customers who abuse these kinds of deals are what prompt stores to post limits of 2 per customer.

Hooray! Something that worked without a problem at Walgreen’s! Almost a miracle lately. It was a great feeling to get a few things & no “beeps” or hassles on something I thought was going to be Free. Thanks for all your great work Christie!!! 🙂

Chris February 17, 2012 at 5:31 pm

My walgreens would NOT allow the coupon to be used (although the register did accept it); they said they were informed by corporate via email this morning that it’s a mistake and no stores should be accepting the coupons for the regular chapstick – only on the variety pictured. All stores should be notified and the cashiers should not be allowing the coupons through.

I heard this tonight also. But only after I had picked some up this morning and yesterday. It was fun while it lasted!!

Jane and Sue
Just because other people get a large amount of one product doesn’t mean they’re hoarders and obviously people are still able to buy at least one if not more since everone keeps saying “NO SHELVES CLEARED!” These are hard times so you can’t blame people for taking advantage!

Reply

Shell February 18, 2012 at 12:51 am

Hard times??? LMAO… I can see a food item being cleared, but chapstick??? Are you kidding???

Its a good thing I can type my responses, due to the fact that my lips are so seriously chapped now from lack of chapstick because my wags was completely sold out, I can no longer speak… oh, the pain…. I really need to move out of the desert so I can once again have soft lips instead of dried out cracked up lips. Can anyone spare a tube??? =)

You have to keep in mind that all stores and areas are different. Some stores have a large couponer population while others, like mine, only have a handful of very casual couponers. I could have grabbed 100 sticks at a single store and they wouldn’t have barely noticed. Between the shelves and the back, they had over 300 tubes of Original and 200 each of the Cherry and Vanilla. Factor in that there’s 2 other stores within 10 miles and another 4 on my way to/from work, I could have easily picked up 500+ tubes yet still left TONS for other people. Btw, I picked up 75 and let my co-workers take whatever they wanted.

I went to Wags this morning to get my Got2B. One of the managers actually came to me and asked me if I had heard about the Chapstik deal. I told him I had and inquired if it was still working to which he replied Yes. He then told me they had Chapstik running out their ears, in places all over the store and that they had no problems with anyone getting many. He stated he sold a lady 30 earlier in the morning. I then got 14. I guess that is too many?

Reply

kelsie February 18, 2012 at 9:14 am

Shell, get a life 🙂 It’s Chapstick. I think it’s great that we have lil deals that come thru like this whether an error or not and use them for the good our community or soldiers.

Reply

Shell February 18, 2012 at 9:50 am

My point exactly! Deals like this come up all the time. Some times we get lucky, some times we don’t. It makes me laugh that so many ppl are going crazy over this….

I predict…. this same rant is going to happen again this week over the Tylenol precise…. what do you think??? =)

Reply

Brandon February 18, 2012 at 6:06 pm

At least with the Tylenol we can price match at Walmart 🙂

I sell toys on Ebay and always check out other things that are being sold on Ebay well you should see how many new listings there are for Chapstick!! And most of the sellers also sell so many other items that we get for free with coupons.. If you havent seen this you should really check it out, someone here who bought 20 or 30 compare them to the seller who probably cleared a bunch of stores..Theres deo, vitamins, all kinds of stuff on there for sale, that is whats going to be the downfall of the good deals not what you are complaining about so and so bought 30!!

Reply

Danielle February 18, 2012 at 11:38 pm

The coupon in the Feb. book did not work on any of the chapstick. We tried them all. It even beeped at the one in the picture, I figure it is not programed into the computer at all. So no chapstick here.
