Updates From the Field 1/15

by Christie Bisbee on January 15, 2012

Here are some updates from my Walgreens trip today!

SOUTH BEACH DIET BARS DEAL
I was so pleased that my stores had decent stock of the South Beach diet bars. There were several varieties to choose from and some are Meal Bars – at about 180 calories each and other are snack bars at 100 calories each. If you don’t find a place for them on the shelf, look around endcaps for special “diet item” displays like this one. My store didn’t have a regular place for them on the shelf.

THERMACARE DEAL
When I purchased the ThermaCare a manufacture’s coupon for $2/1 ThermaCare 2ct+ printed! Although it’s not going to work on this deal, because this weeks deal is on the single count, I know I’ll use it on another deal. The expiration date isn’t until 4/8 and it printed right after the item was scanned.

ABREXIN DEAL
I’m hearing from some of you that the Abrexin was out at your stores and they were substituting a different product. (Thanks Stacia & Beka!) I didn’t purchase this product but if you plan to purchase it just a heads up.

ESTROVEN PM
My stores were VERY well stocked with the Estroven, so if you do want the Abrexin you can roll between those two rather nicely.

REGISTER REWARDS
Anyone else notice their Register Reward now print with blue bar codes instead of black? Or maybe it was just me? 😛

How did your shop go? Find any great deals? Let us know!

Mine printed in blue also. The cashier pointed it out to me saying it is a new thing for them. She had no idea why, but she was aware that is the way it will be. Maybe they got a better deal on blue ink? Lol.

I haven’t been shopping yet to receive a blue RR, but my husband noticed a catalina he received at Kroger printed in many colors (like a printer running out of ink). He mentioned to the cashier she may need to change the ink cartridge, and she replied that it is meant to print in different shades to prevent proper scanning and copies from being made. Wow, copying a catalina never crossed my mind, especially since I am blessed with so many free and cheap deals on almost everything I know … I’d rather earn blessings by donating to the unfortunate than create my fortune illegally.

I went to three Walgreens today; one had no Abrexin in stock and they were not offering substitutions. The other two had a small amount of it in stock. The South Beach bars were abundant in each – two had it stocked right in the diet section, one had it on a random end cap (very tricky to find!) The Thermacare were aplenty everywhere. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m almost looking forward to that time of the month so I can see how well the Thermacare Menstrual works. Ha!

But freebies aside, my favorite deal of the day was getting 4 boxes of Aleve for $0.74 apiece (using $2/1 Aleve 40ct+ coupons from 1/1 SmartSource). My favorite pricey pain reliever for under $1 a box? SCORE! =)

I was just wondering how much the aleeve rings up at? I’m getting confused on my scenario for it. Any help is much appreciated!!

I got 4 Aleve (50 count) and they rang up 3.79 each. Total $15.16. Used 2-$5/2, so that made it $5.16 for all 4. Plus I got $5 RR for spending over $15. Hope that helps.

Sandy January 16, 2012 at 12:55 am

Where did you get the 5/2 from?

Reply

Julie January 16, 2012 at 12:01 pm

I’m in Northwest Arkansas. We got it in the December 4th Red Plum insert.

Reply

Scarlett January 16, 2012 at 3:35 am

Not sure if locality makes a difference, but I’m in Arizona and my Aleve 50ct caplets rang up at $3.99. I used four $2.00/1 Aleve from the January 1st SmartSource to bring them down to $1.99 apiece. After the $5.00 RR, they worked out to be $0.74 each. HTH!

My RR printed in blue as well. Kind of odd looking as I’m so used to the black ink. lol

Neither one of my stores had the Estroven which sucked because I have 2 $3/1 coupons. They weren’t sold out either – they said they never got them!

Oh well, They had the South Beach bars! Got 2, paid $9.98 and got two $6 RR back!

I had a few stores that had the Abrexin and a few that didn’t. The substitute for Abrexin was Full Fast an Appetite Control Spray (in the picture above) they adjusted the price from $19.99 down to $10 and still get the $10 RR.

deranged.me January 15, 2012 at 5:35 pm

My Wags told me Corporate was unable to get sufficient Ambrexin for this deal and was substituting Full Fast Appetite Spray instead. When you buy the FF, the $10 RR that prints says Ambrexin (cashier doesn’t need to do anything). I was able to roll this about 45-50 times between the Full Fast and the Estroven.

Jen January 15, 2012 at 5:42 pm

I wish I thought this was a typo…wow. 50 estroven and diet sprays. Flea market or ebay?

I was thinking overweight and menopausal. Maybe we’re both wrong and she’s just greedy…

Jill January 17, 2012 at 3:39 pm

Apparently Amazon is another option. When I first saw the (at the time upcoming) Abrexin deal, I was curious about the product and doing some internet research. I went to Amazon to see if there were any customer reviews. At that time, Abrexin was not available or listed on Amazon at all. Now . . . there are 16 sellers selling it on Amazon, and if you look at the other items they are selling, you’ll recognize them all. Irritating.

BJ January 15, 2012 at 7:07 pm

Shame on the stores that let you buy purchase that many!

Reply

nini January 15, 2012 at 7:32 pm

Wow! Really 45-50 times !!!

Reply

Deborah January 15, 2012 at 7:54 pm

Is this some kind of show off?? While most of the posts are about people not finding the products, all of a sudden someone says did it 45-50 times??? Very greedy in my opinion and thumbs down to the store that allowed that.

Reply

Marianne January 15, 2012 at 8:22 pm

Rolling 45 or 50 times? That IS greedy.

Reply

amanda January 15, 2012 at 8:53 pm

I dont find it greedy if the s tore had plenty of stock! Hey she might donate it or she might NEED it. If i needed it I would do it 45-50 times as well and would Not appreciate it if someone called me greedy because I got a good deal on something I NEED!!! You have a stick pile for 1 reason to stock up on stuff you need when the price is right!

Reply

Crystal January 15, 2012 at 9:58 pm

No one needs that much estroven! That is more than 2 years worth!

Reply

Amanda January 15, 2012 at 11:10 pm

Hey like I said she might donate it or know people who need it give her a break!.Calling her greedy ,overweight, and a show off is just flat out mean I thought most adults are more mature then this but I guess I am wrong!! Most of you are probably envious of her because she was able to get so many and you were not able to get as many so you result to attacking her, grow up!!! Let her be seriously!

Reply

Tom January 16, 2012 at 1:17 am

Getting that many on a Friday or Saturday would be perfectly fine and no one would complain. That is stocking up on something you need at a good price, after others have also had a chance to get some. Getting 45-50 on the VERY FIRST DAY of the sale is extremely inconsiderate. Apparently she forgot that stores cater to people other than just herself and that other people are also looking to save money on necessary items. I’m guessing that you are either the original poster of that comment, or you are also guilty of doing this.

Reply

Jill January 17, 2012 at 5:43 pm

Ehhhhh, envious that he/she has 50 boxes of weight loss supplements, no. Irritated that because he/she has 50 boxes that he/she intends to re-sell for a $500 to $1000 profit, me and 20-40 other people who wanted to get 1 or 2 boxes to try can’t, yes. 50 for me, none for you. That, by definition, is greedy.

My RR are also printing blue. And my store did not get south beach in there stock. Go figure

Lindsay S. January 15, 2012 at 5:39 pm

I’ve hit up 2 so far and no South Beach Diet bars or Abrexin. I’m going to check a few more on my way to a friend’s house this evening. I also have the blue ink. 🙂

Christy Y January 15, 2012 at 6:01 pm

Just the opposite here both stores had Abrexin… no south beach to be found anywhere at either one.. Im hoping for later in the week maybe.

Reply

james January 15, 2012 at 6:03 pm

found the abrexin and south beach bars on top shelf sort of hidden as though they were pverstock…look high AND low 🙂

Reply

vicki January 15, 2012 at 6:10 pm

@Scarlett the thermacare works wonders for the wonderful time…I used the back ones recently and it was very comforting 🙂 my RR are blue also As far as other people rolling the rewards, why can you not leave some for other people that truely need and or rely on these deals to stretch their money.

Reply

Christine January 15, 2012 at 7:54 pm

I was wondering the same thing. Rolling it 50 times is just greedy. NO ONE needs that much or can use it in a reasonable amount of time. It’s not like this is a product one would donate to charity. These are the folks that will screw it up for the rest of us.

Reply

Deanna January 15, 2012 at 8:01 pm

I thought about that earlier when people were posting on a different topic that they didn’t need something, but they bought it anyway so they could roll their RR’s. I understand people don’t want to be out of pocket more $, but how many people later on in the week won’t be able to get something they wanted/needed because someone bought it and threw it away just so they didn’t have to put more $ out of pocket? You get your money back on the item anyway, why waste a product and cost everybody? The company & store that’s giving away the product and the next person who can’t buy the product they needed?

I got the Abrexin, Estroven, thermacare (1 each) 4 advil, 2 alka selser plus, 2 aleve, 1 south beach and some walgreens candy bags as my fillers. But my best deal of the day was the lysol wipes. The double packages were priced at $3 each and my store only had 5, so I had to get a couple singles to make get my $20 worth, used the $1 off 2 coupons, and got the $6 RR (I think it was 6). I am stocked up on Lysol wipes for the next year, for sure. Did 5 transactions and my OOP was about $12 since I do have to pay tax. I was very happy.

katie January 15, 2012 at 6:29 pm

i didnt read the thermacare coupon when i got it and used it on the 1ct on another transaction and it worked..

No Abrexin in Hot Springs, AR but did estroven deal worked well and was well stocked. Founf 2 baby brainsmart @ 4,29 and the $5 q in wags book made them FREE. Spent 7.06 OOP, Got $6 RR back and got $77.10 in merch. so basically spent 1.06 or paid 1.37% for stuff !!!!

I think Catalina rolled out an update to their printers so the barcodes print in blue. I noticed the barcode was blue on my Catalina at Target too. Probably so the scanners will scan it easier 🙂

Abbe January 15, 2012 at 7:35 pm

My store had plenty of Abrexin, but it was not tagged on sale or for a RR, so that may be why. Couldn’t find any South Beach, disappointed in that, but did get the Advil Congestion super cheap!! Not a bad week, but I’m hoping they rev up their deals soon!!

Re: the Thermacare; last week when I did the Precise deals, I received catalinas for $2 off Thermacare! If I use these, will it interfere with the RR?

Reply

FrugalBehind January 15, 2012 at 10:51 pm

What printed last week is for the 2ct or larger… NOT the trial size that’s got the RR this week.

Reply

Jeremy January 16, 2012 at 12:14 am

FYI, by mistake I handed my cashier that $2 off the Thermacare and I did, indeed, still get the $2.50 RR. May not work every time, but it did for me.

MeliB January 15, 2012 at 9:00 pm

LOL – I keep telling cashier that the ink running out. Now we know….
Also, today I was the first customer at the cosmetic counter and my first transaction was South Beach Bars. The catalina printed out a 2.00 any Childrens Advil Value Pack(mfc) AND a 2.00 Gain (mfc).

Out of the 6+ I went to, i only found two that had some South Beach Diet bars left and only one that had the Abrexin – and only one bottle there! My stores did not stock up well. They should know to stock up since it’s the beginning of the new
year!

Reply

Sandy January 16, 2012 at 1:03 am

I am pretty sure they stocked up, they just didn’t plan for one person to purchase over 40 of one item!

:/

Scarlett January 16, 2012 at 3:39 am

The very friendly and accommodating manager at the 1st store I went to said that he and his staff are not informed in advance about the RR deals. He was very apologetic about the Abrexin being out of stock, and I saw a few other ladies coming in and clustering around the Health & Diet section, so I felt bad that they were so unprepared for a free-after-RR deal.

Raquel January 15, 2012 at 10:37 pm

Went to two diff stores in Chicago and neither had the estroven! In what section did you find them?

Reply

Lyndsey January 16, 2012 at 2:34 am

My RR’s printed in blue ink, also. So strange!

Totally on a sidenote, my Walgreens in San Marcos, CA still has the old scanners which wouldn’t accept my Advil CR newspaper coupon with the new barcode. The manager had to be called and was totally clueless as to why it wouldn’t scan. I politely mentioned the new bar code in effect and the cashier and manager both looked at me like I was from Mars. This is why it’s so frustrating for me to shop at Walgreens.

The Walgreens nearest my home (Memphis) did not have any South Beach bars in stock. There were 3 bottles of Abrexin, but the item did not have a shelf tag advertising as being on sale or producing a RR. I’ll be checking the 2 Walgreens between my home and office today.

Reply

Laura Johnson January 16, 2012 at 9:54 am

I also got the $2 off Thermacare catalina…was wondering the same thing. I’d sure like to be able to use this coupon and still get a RR!

I also bought a box of South Beach bars. My store had several flavors, but the Chocolate Meal Bars were on sale for $4.99 each, and still printed a $6 RR! Even after my $1/1 coupon!

Reply

Amber January 17, 2012 at 1:26 am

sounds like most of the walgreens are already out of the south beach diet bars but the $1 coupon is back for those who want it.

Just got back from a weekend getaway and have the day off work because of snow…was going to try to get to Wags for a deal on Aleve and Southbeach but wondering now if it’s worth attempting to venture out for that.
The 45-50 rolls is excessive no matter what item it is or how bad you need it. Probably why my local Wags will NOT allow any customer to buy more than 1 of any RR deal (can’t separate transactions now…I learned last week on the Chex mix that I was going to buy twice for my trip, but just bought once).

Reply

Lindsay S. January 18, 2012 at 2:01 am

I know all Wags are different, but does anyone have an idea when they typically restock? I’m not sure yet if any of my stores will order inventory or if they normally do that for the RR items, so I was just wondering if anybody else has an idea of when that might happen so I know when to check.

Reply

Amber January 18, 2012 at 4:36 am

I have a couple of stores near me and the closest one restocks on friday and the other on thursday. so each one’s different you’ll have to call and ask. As far as restocking sometimes my stores gest restocked but i’ve found that if it’s a hot item they may not get it in. Sry not very helpful but hope this helps a little bit.

My store was out of the Abrexin and the sales clerk told me it was recalled. Not sure if that is true or not but they did have a substitute but were out of stock on that. I went to Abrexin’s website and didn’t see anything about a recall.
