Updates From the Field: Jergens $.79 Each!

by Christie Bisbee on October 9, 2011

Here are some updates from my trip to help your trip go a little smoother!

JERGENS DEAL
So at my store I found that the 10oz Jergens are also included in the Buy (2) get $5 Register Reward deal! That means if your store carries these as well, you can grab these for as low as $.79 each after the coupon.

***DEAL IDEA***
Buy (2) Jergens Ultra Healing 10oz $4.29 each
Total = $8.58
(2) -$1/1 Jergens Moisturizer 7.5 fl+, or Natural Glow (excl 2oz) 10-09-11 SS x12/3
Total = $6.58, Get Back $5 Register Rewards
= $.79 EACH!

JOHN FRIEDA DEAL
For those of you who have the B1G1 John Frieda printable from a couple of weeks ago, the coupon worked fine but it automatically deducted a very odd amount for me? It just automatically came off at the register. It was more than I anticipated so I didn’t complain, but it was just – well, odd. Not sure if it was just me? If you do this deal, let us know how it went for you and what amount it took off.

COVERGIRL
I did the Covergirl deal at my store today and the products I bought were about $.06 below the $8. I was fully prepared for battle, (since my stores don’t ever want to adjust the coupons down regardless of what policy is). I had my policy printed and pulled up on my phone (I got a new phone for my birthday that is actually of this century! ;-)) and I was ready. As I stood there bracing myself for what is always a blood pressure raising conversation… she scans the coupon and…nothing… no beeps!

which Covergirl products did you get? Do you have a pic?
thank you

I purchased 8 Cover Girl eyeshadows (used 4 coupons for $8 off 2) and had to buy almost $10 worth of other stuff to get my purchase up to $0. After my total purchases equaling $68, I only paid $.33!! I still have 187 Cover Girl coupons left to use!!

Reply

carolyn October 9, 2011 at 10:31 pm

good job but what will someone do with 187 coupons?

Reply

grace October 9, 2011 at 10:41 pm

187 covergirl coupons!!!

Reply

Kristi T October 9, 2011 at 10:44 pm

I thought the Covergirl coupons are only for face items? Are there different versions out there? I guess I’ll have to start checking with the coupon services, I would love some I could use on eye shadow!

Reply

matt October 9, 2011 at 11:47 pm

yes, those covergirl coupons are only for the face products stated on the covergirl website. please use the coupons properly, otherwise we will not get these high value coupons.

Reply

Lorrie October 10, 2011 at 1:21 am

Hardly anyone is actually using these coupons the right way. Someone on another sight actually referred to us who are using them correctly as “coupon nazis”! HORRIBLE!

Reply

Cindy October 10, 2011 at 10:31 am

I agree with you Matt. People should be using the coupons correctly. If Cover Girl had wanted them to be used on eye shadows they would have said face and eye products. Couponers should play by the rules. Some people are going to ruin it for all of us.

Leah October 9, 2011 at 11:12 pm

Are you selling your covergirl coupons 🙂

Reply

Heather October 10, 2011 at 8:02 am

Would you mind telling me how you got 187 copies of 1 coupon? That’s the one thing I don’t understand about Extreme Couponing is obtaining that many inserts, as buying that many would seem prohibitively expensive. Thanks!

Reply

Dave October 10, 2011 at 8:31 am

Heather, I get 40+ every week just from what friends/family give me. I could see people pulling in 100+ if they had it set up with enough people. Remember, most people still don’t use coupons, and just end up throwing them away. Plus, as far as buying them goes…..I see one site has them for $0.80 each. If you were going to but 100 of them for $80, but get $800 face value, still seems like a pretty good deal if it’s something you will use or have friends/family that will use it.

I did the John Frieda deal and when I used the B1G1 coupon, it beeped, but my cashier pushed it through. My Wags also had a $1 off Walgreens manuf coupon taped on the bottles for “hair product” and $2 tags off the Volume products. Great deal!

I was super excited about the Ecotrin deal lol. Two year supply for my daddy yay! And I had a few rr’s that were expiring so I also got orange juice lol. Small trip but worth it to me 🙂

Reply

Monica,

I had the same problem today, I tried to buy both kind and no rr came out on either one of them. Not a happy camper on this one.

I bought 2 with the purple packaging on Fri and got the 3.00 rr. It must not have stayed active after midnight.

I was wondering the same thing, which products did you get for the John Freida deal? What were the in store prices for the items, I couldn’t find anything that would add up to $20 or over for the RR. The highest I could get it was 19.98. Thanks!

Reply

Amy October 10, 2011 at 12:37 pm

I saw them for $6.49. If you have rite aid it’s a better deal. $5 each and $5 up if you buy 2, so they end up being $.50 each.

Pam D October 9, 2011 at 2:39 pm

I only stopped this morning briefly to pick up 2 packs of cottonelle since we were nearly out. But I had my bumblebee q’s with me and a few covergirl q’s. I found some foundation on clearance for 4.85 and it was ringing up bglp. I was also prepared for a battle but not a beep one and I was allowed the overage. So with the .72 per q overage (4 q’s) then I figure that my tp was only 1.03 (I only got the .75/1 cottonelle q) and my bumblebee was only .13 per can. I feel like it was a very good. Yay me! Wish there was not a limit on recyclebank for 1redemption per week on the bumblebee q or I wish I were more prepared and would have started printing the q 3 weeks ago when I saw the ad preview. Silly me!

Pam D October 9, 2011 at 2:49 pm

I am planning a trip this afternoon and plan on getting frizzease serum (9.99) frizzease leavein conditioner (6.49) and root awakening shampoo (6.49) all prices from the website. Will total 22.97 will use the bogo (deduct 6.49) 2/1 root awakening product 10/9 ss and 2/1 any full size john freida product (deduct 4.00) = 12.49 get back 10 rr = 2.49 or .83 each absolutely a stock up price for me.

Reply

Camille Brown October 10, 2011 at 5:58 pm

If you chose you could have made all three of your items $9.99 since one of the $9.99’s would be taken off for the bogo. I did notice only a couple of things were $9.99 though.

Reply

Leslie October 9, 2011 at 2:51 pm

I did the covergirl deal and got two four color eyeshadows for $0.11 each!

Reply

I was going to check on the John Frieda deal myself since I have the bogo q’s. I would also like to know what you bought and what amount it automatically deducted so I can be prepared. Thanks!

Reply

Me, too! YAY! With little ones, we go through an awful lot of Honey Nut Cherrios. I need all the coupons on those I can get!

Reply

Sarah October 9, 2011 at 10:32 pm

I tried to use two coupons for cereal. One from the Walgreens booklet, and a manufacturer coupon. I was told by the cashier that I could not use both bc the Walgreens coupon is considered a mnfc coupon too. I am so fed up with Walgreens. This isn’t the first time I’ve combined two coupons there, but lately it seems like there is a prob 80% of the time.

Reply

Dave October 10, 2011 at 2:05 am

Did you ask for a manager? The Walgreens coupons are clearly not MFG coupons. People need to make sure they talk to a manager when things like this come up. The cashiers at most stores have no clue on what store policy is.

Reply

Debbie October 9, 2011 at 4:30 pm

I bought the listerine total care zero @ 2.74 (50% off), used 2.00 ip coupon, paid .74 then received a catalina for 2.00 off listerine total care zero, expires 1-1-12. So I went and bought another one and the same thing happened again. I’ll go back this week and get some more.

Is the Jergens coupon regional? I don’t see it in my Idaho insert.

Reply

Victoria October 9, 2011 at 5:03 pm

At my Walgreens today Tide with Bleach and Tide with Downy were both on clearance. If you still have the $2 coupon you can pick up a box of Tide with Bleach 31 loads for $2.49. The Downy box was a bit more expensive.

I bought 2 of the 10 0z Jergens original
Scent and a RR didn’t print.I believe it’s only
Working on the ultra healing.

Reply

Natalie October 10, 2011 at 1:47 pm

At our Walgreens in Greer, SC, nearly ALL of the Jergens were marked with the $5 RR, only problem is that the sale price is $5.99 each. So, I got two for $10.70 – $5 RR = $5.70 for 2. Not great, BUT, better than full price. 🙁

Reply

Ashley October 9, 2011 at 5:52 pm

That is a nice deal for Jergens! I should have looked at my store!! I have some RR to roll though so will probably go back and get some Jergens!

I was tempted to try some Covergirl but because it’s always a battle I just didn’t. But that’s ok ’cause I can get plenty of overage at my grocery stores. Glad it worked for you though.

Today I did 2 transactions and got a total of 5 Garnier conditioners, 2 packs Ultra Cottonelle TP, two Russell Stover caramel pumpkins, 2 bags of pretzel M&M’s, 4 bags od Halls lozenges and 4 packs of Orbit (3pack) gum for less than $15! Plus I have $5 in RR to spend.
I love Walgreens!

I was able to get the Frizz Ease Serum and two Frizz Ease Products for $2.98 After 10RR! I found most of the FRIZZ EASE Products were either $9.99 or $6.99. I got the serum $9.99 and the other two products were $6.99 each, used the B1G1 FREE FB offer and 2 $2 Q’s from today’s SS. You can also get twoo $9.99 Products and if your cashier is nice she can reduce the $9.99 🙂 I just wanted the cheaper product.
I found a couple of other good deals today, the Revlon Age Defying Concealer is coming out to $5.99 with the 40% off. If you use the $5/1 Q from 9/18 SS it would make it only $.99! 🙂 and also the L’oreal Go 360 Cleanser comes out to $2.24 after Wags Q and $1/1 Q. The small bottle of Osteo Biflex was also B1G1 making it only $9.99 for 2 after the $5 Q from todays RedPlum or the printable.

Christina October 9, 2011 at 6:14 pm

Has anyone ever placed a special order at Wags? My store doesn’t have the purple Ultra Cottonelle and was wondering if they might order it for me…?

Reply

Lindsay October 9, 2011 at 8:16 pm

It depends on how coupon friendly your manager is. Mine is awesome and I place an order every week along with 2 other couponers so we don’t clear the shelves 🙂 It works out great because we can all get what we need and then the manager knows what the hot sellers will be for the next week and order extra so they will be plenty for everyone!

Reply

Dave October 10, 2011 at 2:11 am

Doesn’t hurt to ask a manager. One of the Walgreens that I shop at always does custom orders for me. Most stores only get one shipment a week (wed, and thurs around here). So you need to make sure to let them know ahead of time so your items will get there while a sale/RR is still going. Also, if you do a order with them, make sure to pick it up. Another local Walgreens won’t do custom orders anymore because they were stuck with extra product too many times.

I didn’t find Jergens coupons in my insert, but there were Curel coupons, so I bought curel lotions(sensitive skin remedy) with $2 coupons for this deal. This one does not have any smell unlike most lotions. Love it so far!

Reply

Jolene October 9, 2011 at 7:40 pm

My Jergens coupons were on the same fold out page as the Curel. The fold out page had UP2U gum then when you openeded it at the top it said “Autumn Beauty” with Jergens, Ban and John Frieda. The last page (when you closed the fold out) had the Curel coupons. Just in case you missed it. If you didn’t get it you could always order them if you really really wanted the lotion.

JoAnn October 9, 2011 at 8:54 pm

Mixed results today–only one purple cottonelle left, only one nivea lip balm on the shelf. Cheekers blush went through with the overage, hall’s cough drops were not marked so there was plenty left. The best was the clearance section. I found Starbucks via ready brew iced coffee 6 packs, marked down to $1.99 from $7.99. I used the $2 off coupon from a smartsource exp. 10/31. Got $24 of coffee for free! and found a random watermelon lip smacker for 49 cents. Not a bad day.

I was waiting for a long time for a deal like this so that I can make money on free items. My Rite Aid ran out of the Cover Girl Cosmetics that I wanted but I’ll wait until Wednesday and use this $5 + Up reward to grab some good deal on Cover Girl Stuff. I was sad that I couldn’t get any Cover Girl items that went well with the $8 Coupon and on the items that I wanted to have.

It is SERIOUSLY about time that Walgreens starting properly training their cashiers on their coupon policy. They need to teach them that it is there job to properly follow the coupon policy, not to act as the coupon police. It is obviously a nationwide Walgreens issue. Coupon use is on the rise, Walgreens! Start training your employees accordingly!!!!

Also…..make sure to not go on a cashiers word. ALWAYS ask for a manager if there is any issues.

I think I’ll stick to Target…stacking their coupons with manufacturing coupons seems to work out way better for me than this rolling rewards deals….

It does take a while to get used to, but I actually prefer Walgreens to Target any day as I feel I get way better deals and more freebies. 🙂

Michelle,Lisa is correct it takes a little bit to get used to. It took me a few weeks to get more comfortable with the rolling RR’s and now I love the store. I just wished I had learned about these years ago, I could have saved a ton of money. A lot also depends on your cashiers. I happen to shop at 2 different Walgreens and have the best cashiers at both and great managers. Justkeep at it and keep trying, but try smaller deals until you feel more comfortable

I took a REAL close look at my wife just the other day, and sure enough, her eyes on right there on her face. Now, that coupon that some of you are all in a dither over, has a picture of a compact, you know, that thing you girls use when you go “powder your nose”. Don’t you dare buy that compact, because the coupon is not for a nose product. If the coupon stated “for purchase of face products EXCLUDING eye products (eye liner, eye shadow, etc.)”, then you would have a legit complaint/comment.

Reply

Jackie October 10, 2011 at 1:06 pm

Dana is completely correct. If the coupon were meant to be used on any cosmetic item it would state $8 off of ANY 2 Items. But it doesn’t say that. It states specifically Face product. There was also a $1 coupon in the p&g for cover girl that is worded $1 off any cover girl. Why would they put out 2 different coupons with 2 different wordings?

Reply

Linda October 10, 2011 at 1:24 pm

I asked the BA at Wags which items I could use the $8/2 Q on and she said concealer, blush, foundation, powder. According to covergirl.com, there are 4 categories: face, eyes, lips, & collections. Face products are diff. from eye products, but the Q does work on eye shadow. The BA let me purchase an eye shadow along with a blush. She said the Q would not work on lipstick products. Even though your lips are technically on your face (LOL), the Q was not meant for lip products. I didn’t feel like I was “breaking any rules”.

amy October 10, 2011 at 1:14 pm

AND IF YOU GO TO ANY PLACE THAT HAS SEPARATE AISLE TYPE MARKERS FOR COVER GIRL, LIKE WALGREENS, TARGET, N WALMART..THERE IS CLEARLY MARKED SECTIONS THAT SAY FACE AND EYES. TO KENT: YES, UR WIFE’S EYES ARE ON HER FACE, BUT YOU DONT KNOW THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY AS FAR AS COSMETIC COUPONS GO. GO TO COVERGIRL’S WEBSITE AND YOU WILL FIND OUT FOR URSELF. BETTER YET, IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING, CONTACT COVERGIRL THEMSELVES AND ASK IF YOU CAN USE THIS FACE COUPON ON AN EYE PRODUCT. THEY WILL TELL YOU NO!

You are right. I did not notice on the coupon the small print that said “Since coupon users do not have the common sense to know what is on a face, we have provided a website (covergirl.com) to tell you what WE think is on a face. It is your responsibility to visit our website before using our coupon. If you think we should have printed an exclusion for items not covered by our coupon, than do not use our coupon at all under penalty of a lengthy prison sentence”. If the marketing folks at Covergirl could not foresee at least a grey area of misunderstanding without printing an exclusion, somebody there is getting paid way too much. On their choice of words, you and I simply disagree. It is not my responsibility to go to a manufacturer’s website before I use each coupon. The idea that I must do so is just silly and I will not waste my time. Now if you want to complain about the misuse of a coupon, head over to SD and look for the post in the Walmart Deals regarding the Crest 3.5 oz at the $ store that you can price-match at Walmart and use the $1.00 coupon that CLEARLY says 4 oz or larger. SD says “it’s up to the stores to catch it, the post is fine”.

For those of you who have encountered Walgreen’s clerks who insist that some of the coupons in their monthly Q book are actually manufacturer’s Q’s, hold onto the Walgreen’s weekly flyer dated Oct. 2 through Oct. 8. On the front page on the top row is the advertised Cottonelle bathroom tissue deal for $5. In the pricing box, it states $5 (our price); $1 (less Coupon in Store) and .50 (less Coupon Savings in most Sunday papers) for a final cost of $3.50. In fine print under that it states Sunday paper coupon and Coupon in Store required for pricing. The Coupon in Store is, of course, the coupon from the monthly book. Walgreens printed this flyer and those are Walgreens’ words. Just show the flyer to the coupon “cop” – hopefully, it will shut them up and better still, maybe he or she will learn what we already know.

My store had the small Jergens and I was able to pick them up tonight, thanks for the heads up! One of them had a sticker on it that said “Ask About Coupon at Beauty Counter!” I had never seen that before so I tracked someone down and asked (it was in the evening and there was nobody staffing the beauty counter). She informed me that everyone who works there cuts coupons and they keep them in a big folder at the beauty counter for customers to use! She looked and someone had already taken all the Jergens coupons (I had my own anyway, just wanted to see if maybe they had some better ones) but it was a really nice discovery and makes me love my Wags even more!

Actually Kent, it is your responsibilty to use a coupon correctly. It is called coupon fraud if you misuse it. U are very ignorant, need to learn manners, and dont belong on a blog if you are going to be rude. I suggest you take a lesson in couponing correctly before you ruin it for those honest couponers out there.

Actually Dana, it is your responsibilty to go to every manufacturer’s website and educate the rest of us. U are very ignorant, need to learn manners, and dont (don’t) belong on a blog if you are going to be rude (or shout all the time). I suggest you take a lesson in commenting correctly before you ruin it for those honest blog commenters out there.
Now, if you wish to act more mature and move past the name calling, we can discuss deals and coupon usage. Of course I did not see a comment on the misuse of the Crest coupon that is posted on SD.

So – If anyone would like to know more about the CoverGirl coupon and what is included per P&G (who makes CoverGirl) you can go to my post below…

https://wildforwags.com//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////get-free-stuff/2011/10/03/free-cheap-cover-girl-products/

I’m going to ask that we please end the Covergirl conversation or I feel like I’m going to have to close comments on this one.

Thanks guys! 🙂

My Walgreens refused to take the B1G1 John Frieda coupon. They said because it says Store Coupon but has the 5 in front of the UPC code indicating its a MQ plus didn’t have the verify symbol or a website on it, it was a fake coupon (which we know its not since it came from the JF site although I can’t prove that to them since the coupon is no longer available). Anyone else run into this problem?
