Update – If you missed it, they are taking applications again!
Nielsen Home Scan is currently accepting a limited number of applications for their homescan program HERE. They have also totally dropped the requirement to have a land line. So a land line is NO longer required!
If you are accepted into the program, you are provided with a hand held scanner that you use to record your purchases. You then transmit your purchases 1x per week by phone, it can be fun for kids to help out too!
You can also get a ton of points just from doing the on-line surveys. They really help boost your totals and the surveys are super short. The longer you are part of the program the more points you’ll get for every activity. I recently completed my 6 months and so I now get more points every time I transmit.
Points are redeemable for all sorts of prizes (Dooney & Bourke purses, Fisher Price Toys, a Nintendo Wii, ipods and more). Plus, every month 15 panel members win $1,000 and every quarter 2 panel members win $20,000! Not everyone will be accepted, and there is usually a waiting period if you are. You can apply HERE. Good Luck 🙂

Even if you’ve applied before and weren’t accepted, keep trying! I got accepted on the third try — and so far it’s super easy, doesn’t take that much extra time and if anything it’s made me more aware of how much I’m spending.
I just tried they said they were not looking in my area 🙁 I’ll keep trying!
Did they tell you rightway or did they send you a email in a few weeks?
In my case I got an e-mail quite a few weeks later.
So frustrating, i’ve tried this a few times and every time it tells me my city isn’t recognized by there system…. I gaurentee that it exist! even the post office says it does LOL.
I signed up a while back and got accepted. I was so excited. I recieved the kit and after a month of scanning my items I sent it back. I thought I would just have to scan my item and be done with it. You have to scan your item type in the price and if you used a coupon with that item type it in as well. If you picked up a few items it was fine but if you did a big grocery shopping trip it took forever to get through it. The last time I did an actual scan of my items i was about 45 mins into it and gave up. It was to time consuming!!!!
Ditto!!! I couldn’t wait to send mine back. Just like Brittany said, you have to manually type in if it was on sale, did you use a store Q & if so how much, Manu Q & if so how much, prices of prod if the scanner doesn’t have them already programmed in (which mine never seem to be in there) CRAZY time consuming! When you come in w/your BIG haul of groceries the last thing you want to do is stand there and re-scan everything, keying in sales, Qs, & sometimes even prices. UGH!!
