Walgreens: Updates From the Field – Surprise Colgate Register Reward = Money Maker!

by Christie Bisbee on February 9, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-02-09 at 11.20.31 AMI’m still out doing my shopping but I wanted to let you all know about an awesome surprise deal at Walgreens today. The Colgate Total Toothpaste that’s 2/$6 and part of the $4 Register Reward deal is printing an extra unadvertised $1.50 Register Reward. That’s in addition to the $4 Register Reward that’s advertised in the ad.

We have a couple of coupons that we can use on this deal, so after coupons and Register Rewards, these are a nice little Money Maker. Plus these also qualify for the Winter Beauty Event. So if you are participating in that, you’ll get an additional 300 points. I’d do this deal quick since I don’t know how long the extra $1.50 Register Reward will last.

Both the Deep Clean and the Whitening worked on this deal, let us know if it works for you on any other varieties.

Buy (2) Colgate Total Advanced Deep Clean or Whitening Toothpaste 2/$6

Thank you!
There are reports that the advertised extra point deal is not working. Have you found that?

your store should have the correct coupon to scan. the one in the ad isn’t working.

Reply

Christie February 9, 2014 at 1:07 pm

Yes the one in the ad is not working properly but they should have one in the store that is working. ๐Ÿ™‚

just worked for me actually I was wondering how I received it

The points booster from the ad isn’t working. The store should have one in a flyer that they have in their email. Also, check your email for one. I was able to use the store’s point booster twice.

and I bought that colgate (advanced whitening toothpaste) and didn’t realize that was what the extra 1.50 was for!

the winter points coupon and the 5k coupon wouldn’t scan in the same transaction, so I only scanned the 5k coupon and saw on my receipt that the beauty points were still added on. I had scanned the beauty coupon before so maybe its already in my card?

the NIVEA chapsticks priced at 2.99 were included in the B1G1 50% off sale so 2 for 4.49 minus 3/2 MQ and get 2k back=small moneymaker

the scrubbing bubbles gel did not ring up as 2/7 FYI

had 3 great transactions, paid 3.15 OOP including tax, saved 103.48, made 22k and left with 6.50 in RR. going to do one more transaction later to make another 4RR and 14k points and pay 1.85 plus tax OOP

The stores in my area are saying the 5k coupon can only be used if the total is after the coupons including register rewards? Anyone else having that problem?

Reply

Victor February 9, 2014 at 12:31 pm

That’s not true afton, it is before manufacturer coupons but after Walgreens coupons

Reply

Afton February 9, 2014 at 12:44 pm

They said that they got a letter stating that they were not allowed to do it until the end of the transaction. I have only gone to one of the walgreens around me I will try the others later. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

At my Walgreens (St. Louis area), my cashier rang my items, used any Walgreens coupons and THEN scanned the 5,000 bonus coupon. Up on the screen popped “This transaction qualifies for the 5,000 Bonus Points” ( not sure of the exact wording, but it clued the cashier that my transaction qualified) She then deducted my manufacturers coupons and my 2 register rewards. It went smoothly and I got all my points. I know a lady in front of me did not get the 5,000 points even with a total of 71.00 because she had several items that apparently did not qualify for the points. Hope that this helps you.

this is also working for both of the 2 in 1 versions (squeeze bottles, not boxes)

You can donate to battered womens shelters/homeless shelters, plus, I bet your local church has some affiliates who accept personal care item donations

Anne – Have you heard of Operation Christmas Child? Go here to learn more. http://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ In a nutshell, you pack shoe boxes or plastic tubs with personal care items, school supplies, small toys, etc. Around November, you drop them off at collection centers around the US. They get delivered (with the Gospel message) to kids around the world. For many, it is the first gift they have received. They ask for a donation to cover shipping also. It is possibly to track your box and find out what country it was shipped to. If you include a letter, the child may write back. We received a letter back one year, which was cool! When I coupon throughout the year and come home with free or cheap surplus items, my kids and I put them in our Operation Christmas Child bin. Then when November comes, we pack our boxes with our surplus.

You can also check with the local schools. My niece is a school nurse and is always asking for donations of toothpaste/brushes etc as some of them can’t afford them

Gayle February 9, 2014 at 5:39 pm

We do a ton of donating. My local Ronald McDonald House loves HBA products. Another local charity also creates family care packages for families with children in the hospital. Covenant House is our local teen runaway shelter. I also donate to men’s shelters, women/children’s shelters, & nursing homes/long-term care facilities.

Btw, my husband feels the same way about paper towels ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bonus points not working at my store either in KC. They just scanned a code to add the extra points for me at the end of each transaction. I did 3 and the last one the girl informed me that I was below the 25.00 but she would do it this time for me. I think if the coupon was working there would not have been a problem but not sure. I bought too much to list but spent $64.28 on all 3 transactions, got back 20.50 in RR and earned 34,870 points, plus got the $40 Date night from KY – so I think I did excellent!
Also I did get the extra RR for Colgate – wahoo!

stacia February 9, 2014 at 3:04 pm

i did 4 transactions. spent $7.66 before tax. earned 39000 points. started with 36RR and ended with 6.50RR. it was a fun morning! ๐Ÿ™‚ total saved was: $132.30

Tori February 9, 2014 at 3:40 pm

I did 7 transactions and every single one worked beautifully—using the in-ad coupon. The 5,000 points was added to my account every time and the Beauty points came off automatically.

Michael February 9, 2014 at 4:05 pm

My store received an email with the corrected 5,000 bonus point ad. I did this 7 times and received my 5,000 points plus any beauty points each time. The Nature Made vitamins are b1g1. So if you have the $5 and $3 coupons from a couple of weeks ago this helps with reaching the $25.

And thanks for the heads up on the colgate deal. Worked well at my store. Passed it on to other shoppers.

look for clearance mitchum and softsoap body wash.
I got 2 Mitchum on clearance for 2.24 each – 2.00/1 coupon
and 2 softsoaf body wash for 1.90 each.
Both produced the RRs and I got the beauty points for both too.
with all my items and other RR, I spent 4.63 oop but got back 15.50 in RR and 11000 reward points.

Tori February 9, 2014 at 5:15 pm

Axe face wash and Axe [Kilo] deodorant are also on clearance, ringing up B1G1 50% AND producing the 2,000 points. If you have the $2/1 coupons, they’re a great MM.

I had a question about donations, most of my diabetic meters I donated to School of Medicine. My food I was able to donate to the food pantry near my house and the health and beauty I’m planning to donate either a homeless shelter, or a women’s shelter. My questions is between all Walgreens RR and CVS ECB what can I do with all the medications and vitamins. I talk to one shelter who said that’s its illegal to give out medicine without a license. Ladies and Gents what did any of you do with yours. I hate to throw away all the meds. any ideas. Thanks for your time

Kelly February 9, 2014 at 6:16 pm

Whenever there are [U.S.] natural disasters, they ask for medicine. I usually box up a couple of boxes and then call churches to see if they’re sending anyone to help out. You can usually find someone or a whole group and they’re always happy to take donations. Believe it or not, they also ask for feminine products.

I have the same problem here Vancouver WA. I have a ton of vitamins and anti acid tablets, but I contacted every food bank office and free clinics but no luck, no one want them, same respond it’s illegal for them to give away any kind of medications (include vitamins and supplement ) for food banks and respond from free clinic was that they are getting medications from big companies so no individual donation…bummer

Gayle February 10, 2014 at 10:52 pm

Really? My local Covenant House, Ronald McDonald House, & men’s & women/children’s shelters were very grateful to receive OTC medications & vitamins.

Reply

Jen February 9, 2014 at 6:19 pm

@Stacy5:
I’m not sure what you mean when you say medications, like prescription meds? Most places will accept UNOPENED vitamins (unless they do not want/need them) but even as a donation you cannot give anyone your prescription meds.

Reply

grace February 9, 2014 at 10:56 pm

I think they mean vitamins and not prescription. I can see how some people would be weary of taking medications. some people do not really understand that you are getting this stuff free and they are wondering why you would want to give them away, they probably think there is something wrong with them.

Thank you ladies, I don’t mean prescription I know that’s illegal. I’m talking about vitamins, supplements, aspirin, anti gas, anti acid, etc.

There is a coupon (has to be scanned) on the first page of the weekly ad this week that gives you 5000 pts for every qualifying purchase of $25. It is good from Sun till Tuesday. HTH

Tried this Monday morning and I only got the $4 RR. I purchased two of the deep clean. Did the second one stop printing?

Reply

Lenore February 11, 2014 at 2:52 am

I just got back from my local Walgreens and they did have the corrected ad scan for the 5000 pts. And I had no trouble with that. However, when I got home I looked over my receipts and I noticed that the Colgate that I purchased was not 2/$6 even though I got the right kind. Colgate Advantage Whitening, also did not print the 2 coupons. I will take my receipts tomorrow and get the correct amount, has anyone else noticed this? I also found a lot of tresemme on the clearance for $2.89 it works with the points and the $2/1 MQ so low out of pocket. In total I spent $54.04 OOP in #5 Transactions got back
$13 RR and earned 50,210 pts. Went home with (4) Mitchum Deo., (4) Colgate toothpaste, (14) Nivea Lip Kiss, (2) Rockstar, (2) Snap super candy, (1) TRESemme Platinum Strength cond., (6) TRESemme Plat. Str. heat Prot. Spray, (3) TRESemme Deep Cond. trtm. (4) WNW nail polish, (2) St. Joseph Melts, (3) kids 3n1 and (4) valentines candy. Making it all free + a $23 MM. Also keep an eye out for peelies on the WNW nail polish I found $1/1 on the caps.

I just purchased two of the Colgate Fresh+whitening and I only received the $4 RR. The AM said he knew nothing about the $1.50 RR and could do nothing without an ad showing that there should have been $1.50 RR.

Reply

Jocelyn February 12, 2014 at 10:01 am

Did my 5000 point booster last night. Wasn’t successful with the Colgate $1.50 extra RR. And also the beauty event wouldn’t scan. Too bad because I bought the eucerin lotion b1g1 50% off.
Didn’t see any Hershey spread and so with Nutella and the Nivea lip care.
Would need to go to other wags
Have a fun day everyone
