Walgreens Updates from the Field 9/30

by Christie Bisbee on September 30, 2012

Here are some updates from my trip today to help your trip go a bit easier!

CEPACOL DEAL: I found plenty of Cepacol at my store this morning and had no problem with this deal. I didn’t include the $1/1 Cepacol coupon in my match ups because it said exc. 4ct on the screen (even though it didn’t when you printed the coupon). However, I have heard from several of you this morning that tried using the $1/1 Cepacol coupon and did not get the $1 Register Reward. So I wanted to address that…

This occasionally  happens when the coupon is the same dollar amount (in this case for $1) as the Register Reward. The coupon is coded similarly to the Register Reward and so it can appear to the register that you are using a $1 Cepacol RR to pay. If it’s coded similarly then the register doesn’t know the difference between a coupon and a RR.

So, if you printed that coupon, save it for a future deal, and enjoy some free Cepacol no coupon necessary! 🙂

ROBITUSSIN DEAL: I am super excited about the new Robitussin coupon! We have both a printable (that won’t last I’m sure!) and an insert coupon for these. This is a great chance to stock up on these for Cold + Flu season that’s just around the corner. I would much rather grab these now, then wait until I’m sick and have to pay full price! You’ll can grab these for $0.65 each (or less) when you buy (3) or $0.98 (or less) when you buy (2).

Walgreens Deals
Buy (3) Robitussin 20 ct or 4 oz $4.99
Total = $14.97
(3) $3.00 off ANY Robitussin® product (90210) (or 9/30 RP)
Total = $5.97, Get Back 4,000 Balance Reward Points ($4 – $5)
= $0.65 EACH! (Or as low as $0.32 each if you accumulate points)

Buy (2) Robitussin 20 ct or 4 oz $4.99
Total = $9.98
(2) $3.00 off ANY Robitussin® product (or 9/30 RP)
Total = $3.97, Get Back 2,000 Balance Reward Points ($2 – $2.50)
= $0.98 EACH! (Or as low as $0.73 each if you accumulate points)

DEGREE DEAL: There’s a new $0.75 off Degree Women motionSENSE product coupon available to print. This is part of the Register Reward deal this week for Degree, so you can use it to do this deal…

Walgreens Deals
Buy (1) Degree MotionSENSE for women $3.99 (reg.$4.99)
$0.75 off Degree Women motionSENSE product
Total = $3.24, Get Back $1 RR
= $2.24 EACH

$5 OFF $20 SURPRISE: Some of you are getting a surprise $5/$20 coupon good today only printing for you after your purchase! I don’t know what it prompting it but you might want to buy just one small item first to see if you get this surprise!

So how did your trip go? Find any great deals? Let us know! 🙂

(Thanks Lisa, AJ & Dawn!)

Watch the Nice -n- Easy Hair Color — it’s the NON permanent, not the regular. I bought 4 and it popped a $5.00 OYNO from Nice-n-Easy.

Also watch the Tampax/Always deal. If you purchase more than one “set” (2/$8) it only prints one $.50 RR.

Balance Rewards Central is slammed — they know there are things working and not working, but the lady I spoke with was incredibly nice.

Thank you! I was thinking about getting the deal since it looked pretty good for hair color, but I definitely don’t want non-permanent.

Reply

Kari September 30, 2012 at 5:56 pm

When I bought 2 of the hair colors today it popped out a $2 RR. Great deal 🙂 Same things, it was the NON permanent.

In 2 transactions today I purchased (8) Act microwave popcorns. I used the 4/$1.00 coupon in the ad. To my surprise they were also b1g1 at my store. So I received (8) popcorns for $1.00. We LOVE popcorn:) I also received a $5.00/$35.00 catalina from Balance Rewards expires 10/3.

I saw a post somewhere on the Cepacol. The person that posted said that the store forced the RRs to print by returning the Cepacol and ringing them up again without the coupons. So, she got 2 free boxes plus $2.00 RRs. I emailed corporate about this problem.

Yes that was me, VERY nice cashier….she did it without me even asking too! So it was a MM for me, it was nice to have a pleasant cashier first thing on Sunday morning 🙂

Was me too. This is how my Walgreens has fixed this over the years.
But there were three people at the register…a newer clerk, a training asst manager, and the manager. The first two people tried to explain that I shouldn’t get the RR because I used the coupon…aaahhhh but I’m smarter than that thanks to this site, and then the manager was brought over and she knew that it was a RR problem not my problem. So be strong out there, and don’t give up on what you know is right thanks to Christie!!!

It is my understanding that for this promotion, Walgreens programmed their registers to stop the Register Rewards from printing if the $1.00 mfg’s coupon is used. So, they planned ahead to stop this deal from being a moneymaker.

Reply

Lindsay S. September 30, 2012 at 2:18 pm

Christie made a post about the Cold and Flu book, and she said that the coupons are manufacturer coupons, so we can’t stack them.

I did the contonelle wipes deal three times because I just had colon surgery. I received the 500 points and a $2 RR each time! It was a good day!

My RR did not print when I used to Cepacol coupon. The Cashier took the amount off, then just gave me the coupons back. I did not realize until later that he may get in trouble for not having the coupons in his register. Aw well, live and learn (and I can go in and buy two more Cepacol anyways since I still have the coupons!).

Lorraine September 30, 2012 at 4:39 pm

Found clearanced robitissun…check it out in your store!

Reply

waverly September 30, 2012 at 6:22 pm

I bought a degree deodorant from the clearance section for $1 and got the Clear shampoo for men free with the coupon. I wasn’t expecting the 1000 points which made these two items free.

Additional note: I was surprised that the cashier and later the manager tell me that coupons that you print from the computer were not allowed, but the manager said he would let me slide on this shopping visit.

The manager said that the policy has been in effect for some time. I told him that I hadn’t heard that, but that I would consult the Walgreen’s website for confirmation. I am surprised that someone like that would flat out lie to me. I don’t understand the motivation either.

Karen A September 30, 2012 at 6:32 pm

Which Degree was it on clearance? Btw- call corporate and ask for DISTRICT manager to call you back, not the store manager- they are the only ones that can correctly teach the store managers what the coupon policies are.

mjc September 30, 2012 at 6:29 pm

I asked about the Cepacol RR today because it did not print. The clerk was apologetic and gave me a form to fill out and send in. It said something about the new registers not being set up to print RRs from the company yet… So, it will cost me a stamp, but it was still a money maker.

Reply

Julie October 1, 2012 at 8:37 am

There is an email address you can use for Catalina Marketing if you want to save your stamp. I had to contact them once for a missing RR and that is how I did it. They emailed me back within a day or so and then I got a RR ion the mail a short time later.

you can also call 1-888-8COUPON.

Melanie O. September 30, 2012 at 6:41 pm

I had no problems with using the Cepacol coupon and I got my RR in Missouri.
I ended up getting 2- $15/50 coupons, but I noticed they had short expiration dates…so I bought more Cottonelle TP & wipes and Kleenex before the RR ended today.

Reply

Angel B October 3, 2012 at 10:55 am

I Used my 15/50 coupon… I stocked up on Scott paper towels (w/ the 1.25 printable), Splenda, Vicks Fusion (was clearance for 3.99, bought 4 and still got my 4K points!!), Purex detergent, and some other items…Was a little hard to hit the 50 due to very few GREAT deals…wish I had known about the degree deo, could have used that 2x! 🙂

waverly September 30, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Karen,

It was Degree deodorant Extreme Blast 1.7 oz. It was on the rack with other closeout items.

I will call corporate if this store gives me an issue in the future with printed coupons.

Reply

rakellee September 30, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I also used the buy one degree mens deodorant, get one clear shampoo for free earlier in the week… The degree was in a clearance bin marked at a $1.00 and the clear was free, plus 1000 points for each bottle of clear… Making both free… this was an excellent deal for the week…Store I go to is very coupon friendly so I love going there! Used the points to buy a few toys for my kids…

Reply

KellyC September 30, 2012 at 7:58 pm

For the degree deal…if I do two deals (as coupons specifies) will I get points for each bottle of clear?

Reply

Wendy September 30, 2012 at 11:29 pm

You should, just do two separate transactions so that you will get $1 RR from each Degree.

Reply

Diane September 30, 2012 at 8:03 pm

If you do the Pantene 2/$8, 1500 points are being earned for EACH bottle. So if you have your BOGO coupon, will make it 2/$4, plus 3000 points equals .50 each! Grabbed the Act popcorn for my fillers today and I too was pleasantly surprised to find it was BOGO. I stocked up on the Butterball turkey bacon, and did several other deals as well. All my earned points showed up on my receipt properly. Had a great trip!

Reply

Victoria September 30, 2012 at 9:28 pm

Do you have to buy 8 each time or does it ring up as .13 if you only buy 1 or 2 (with in-ad coupon)?

Reply

Diane October 1, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Mine was ringing up .25 for the first and .00 for the second, so buy in multiples of 2.

Sandy September 30, 2012 at 8:48 pm

Thank you all for posting what does and does not work and clearance items to look out for!! I have gotten so many good deals by checking these comments through the week. 🙂 We love popcorn around here so I will be on the look out at my store for it.

Reply

Dianne September 30, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Christie, I used the $1/1 MQ for the Cepacol and did not get the RR. The Asst. Manager came we looked at the RR that was “forced” without the coupon. They are coded exactly the same. I figured it would be a problem when I saw the “992” in the product code area… Just and FYI. I spoke to each of my Walgreen’s about it and just got mine for free.

I have a question about the balance reward points, if I buy two of the robitussin, I get 2000 points if I buy another one during the sale will I get the extra 2000 points since the deal is if u buy 3 u get 4000 points?

Reply

Ashley October 2, 2012 at 1:51 pm

If you’re asking if you’ll get the extra 2,000 pts by buying it in a separate transaction, then I’d have to say no. As far as I know the system doesn’t keep track of things that indepth. You’d have to buy all three in the same transaction.

I got $10/$35! I bought a Venus Razor, 2 cottonell wipes, Cepacol, and 2 halloween items for my girls. I spent $27 oop and had $5500 points to start the day but chose not to use them. I am thinking it had to do with the amount of points you had.

I would never stand for the “send in a form” when the RR that is suppose to print doesn’t. Most of my Walgreens will have the manager do this “ring thru the item separately and then they void their own transaction”. This spits out the rewards. This is how my Walgreens has been fixing this type of thing for years. And to the poster that said theirs wouldn’t accept printed coupons…this is just sad. Again, I think it is time for Walgreens to post their coupon policy and error policy right in the stores. We should all advocate for this. Most other stores do this. I am near Pic N Saves which are owned by roundy’s and they have their policy right at the service counter. Now it does say that if there is an error, they will double you the difference. I don’t always ask for this, but when I’m stressed by having to fix pricing issues, I ask to “invoke my double back priviledge” and never a problem.

Amanda October 1, 2012 at 12:20 pm

If the RR’s don’t print at my store, they put them on a gift card. It works really well for me cause then they don’t expire. For some reason last week, none of my RR’s printed so they put them all on a gift card so $10.

I finally got my Robitussin coupons in the mail and went to my Wags to see if they had some on clearance, and they had the 20 count boxes for $1.74! Most people were reporting them at about $3.49, but for some reason my Wags had them super cheap. They were happy to adjust my $3 coupons down to match the price, so I got them for free and made money with the points! Also, for some reason I didn’t realize that the Simple skin care wipes were such a good deal until I was making my shopping list today. At 33% off they were about $4.34, then with the $2 coupon and 1500 points back, they’re only $0.84 (originally $6.49!). I’m very excited to try them, and I think I’m going to go back for more at that price. Woo hoo!
