Well – it appears that Brita has decided to change their mind about the rebates and will be honoring them. So if you printed the rebate from the Brita site when I posted it, you should have no issue in getting your rebate.
To clarify – if you heard about the rebate from my site, you know the link on my site took you directly to the Brita page. I don’t upload rebates or pdf coupons to my site. I don’t feel comfortable with it and it’s my policy not to do so. I’m glad that Brita changed it’s mind and that everyone who followed the rules of the rebate will be able to enjoy the rebate and their pitcher for years to come.
I am very disappointed right now and I imagine that many of you will be too. 🙁
Brita announced on Facebook has decided to no longer honor the mail in rebate for their pitcher, even though it was dated as valid thru 3/31/12. Even if you printed it a month ago and met all the requirements on the rebate. According to Brita their supplies have been “exhausted” and they will not honor any additional rebates. It’s not clear at what point they stopped issuing the rebates.
Now, it is my opinion, and just my opinion, that this is a bad business decision. Instead of having thousands of new, happy customers buying Brita replacement filters, they now have thousands of angry people who will never purchase from Brita. 🙁
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
If you don’t want the Brita Pitcher, I would urge you to return it. If you don’t have your receipt for the return, I would tell the store manager what happened and you will be issued store credit for the item. You can see the Walgreens return policy HERE.
You can also visit the Brita Facebook page HERE (you don’t have to like it to comment) and let them know how you feel about it. You can leave feedback on their website HERE. You can call them 1-800-24-BRITA and you can of course you can Tweet about it.

Just received my rebate on a MM purchase earlier last year… glad I finally sent it in when I did!
So this is very interesting indeed. I’ve seen a couple of rebate forms lately that specifically say “While supplies last”, but I checked my photocopy of the Brita form and it doesn’t say that anywhere. If it did, I’d say you’re taking a chance, tough luck – but it doesn’t. Promises made, promises broken Brita!!
I have to say that this article is excellent regarding the Brita fiasco.

Curious: are customers permitted to return items that have been opened and used? I’ve been happily using a PUR water filter for years, but I thought the Brita pitcher would be great as a secondary option (we drink tons of filtered water daily), so I opened mine as soon as I purchased it at CVS. Kept the box, intending to complete the rebate form, but the inner packaging is gone and the pitcher has been used.
I would imagine this doesn’t qualify for a return, and honestly I don’t think it’s fair to stick CVS with honoring a return on a used item because of this whole Brita debacle. What I’d *really* like to do is send the used pitcher back to Brita and get not only a refund, but a return on my postage. 😉
So you want to stick it to Brita be cause cvs did not do there job. Most likely it had all ready been returned to cvs and they did not check it be putting back on the shelf. That’s in no way Fault of Brita. Call the management at the store of cvs explain what has happened and get your money from cvs.
I am VERY Upset about this,I just mailed mine today. I will be sending them an Email
“even though it was dated as valid thru 3/31/11”. I’m sure you meant 3/31/12. Don’t just return it, return it after using it. Take that Brita!!!
Thank you Kent – yes 3/31/12. Had a long day and I get home from work at almost 10pm and find out about the Brita mess. 🙁 So a bit foggy but wanted to get it up so no one else would purchase it under the assumption that they would get the rebate.
THIS WAS JUST POSTED 9 MINUTES AGO!!!!!
Hi Brita fans! Great news to report: We will be honoring all the mail-in rebates that were recently available! We apologize for all the inconvenience this caused. Thanks for you patience and sticking with Brita. Enjoy your rebates!
Yay! Like I said – it just seemed like a bad choice. Why make so many people angry who printed the rebate from your site? When you can instead turn us all into Brita fans forever buying replacement filters. LOL 🙂
FYI. . .At 10:40 pm Brita posted on their facebook page that they will be honoring the rebates. 🙂 Yeah! A little slow, but they finally came through.
I think it was the right choice. 🙂
Well, it still doesn’t help me. I’m out of color ink and the form won’t print in black and white. Stupid ink is so expensive. It’s probably cheaper to get a new printer. Can’t just refill it, printer is made to not recognize refilled cartridges. Anybody have any tips or tricks to help me out?
🙁 Not my area of expertise but hopefully someone will have some good suggestions.
So if I bought mine yesterday and will be mailing my rebate today it will still be honored? I dont want to send it in all late and not get my rebate. Id rather just return it
It appears so – I think all the upset people resulted in them changing their minds – so you should be good! 🙂
