Updates From the Field 5/15!

by Christie Bisbee on May 15, 2011

Today was a crazy day. I have a horrible, horrible cold and boy was I happy to have a few boxes of Dayquil and Nyquil in my stockpile. I also got a last minute call to do an interview for ABC World News about coupon use that aired tonight at 6pm. Hope some of you caught it! πŸ™‚ So needless to say my update is a little late!

Here are some tips from my trip today that will hopefully make your trip a bit easier.

GILLETTE DEAL
In some stores and not others the Gillette body wash was ringing up B1G1 50% off! So that really threw me for a loop. I can’t explain why I had it happen at some stores and not at other stores but be prepared that it might happen to you. If it does than the deal looks like this…

BUY
(3) Gillette Body Wash 3/$10
(3) Gillette Deodorant $4.99 each
Total = $24.97
– Takes off $1.67 for the Body Wash B1G1 50% OFF
(3) – $2/1 Gillette Body Wash (ETS) – 05-15-11 RP X6/30
(3) – Gillette Deodorant FREE WYB Gillette Body Wash, ets – 05-01-11 PG to $4.99 x5/31

Total =$2.33, Get Back $3 RR
= FREE!

Also I found Zest packages of body wash that were special B1G1 FREE packages. If your store is out of Gillette or you are looking for another alternative you can buy (3) of these (actually 6 body washes) which would be $4 after the Register Reward.

BUY
(3) Zest Body Wash with FREE product attached $10
(3) -$1/1 Zest Bar/Body Wash – 05-01-11 PG x6/30 or P&G Everyday Savings x6/30
Total = $7, Get Back $3 RR
= $4 or $.67 EACH

DOVE DEAL
There were issues with the Dove AP/Deo Register Reward this morning and they weren’t printing. Hopefully it’s been straightened out. The good news is we now have a coupon to go with this deal since the other coupon ran out of prints! This coupon is from the Hannaford site but it is a MQ with no logo and can be used anywhere. You can use zip 01364.

Get $3 RR WYB Dove Men+Care Antiperspirant/Deodorant 2.7 or 3 oz. $3.99
Dove Men+ Care AP/Deo $3.99
-$1/1 Dove Product, Any $2.99+ PRINT (Thanks Jackie!)
Total = $2.99, Get Back $3 RR
= FREE!

GARNIER DEAL
The Garnier Register Reward only printed for me for the most expensive products. If you got the $5 RR for some of the less expensive products, let us know which!

How Did Your Trip Go? Find any great deals? Let us know! :-)

i tried the garnier on the noted upc in FL and did not work. Mgr had to ring a couple of different ones and found that the deal worked for the larger bottles only. the ad does not list items and so the employees were a bit confused because nothing is noted on shelves either.

I didn’t get the RR to print on my Garnier items. I bought 2 body boost sprays. I was told it was only what was pictured that was included.?

Reply

Susan S. May 15, 2011 at 10:24 pm

at the store I went to, the items were marked on the shelves as what is pictured in the ad; the large 25 oz shampoo & conditioner @ $5.99 and the tube of deep conditioner and the bottle of that oil leave in stuff in the photo, both @ $5.99.

I posted below to look out for clearance β€œTriple Nutrition Fortifying Shampoo or Conditioner” marked down to $4.59. Buy 2 of those and you will get the RR…

HTH!

My shopping trip was completely thrown for a loop, too! My local Wags doesn’t carry the Gillette body wash. I didn’t have my other coupons with me to buy the Old Spice or Zest body wash…I was trying to keep my load going out the door to a minimum (Was also carrying baseball gear and such out the door.) I had to come back home to get other coupons in order to use some RRs that expired today.

Reply

Pam May 15, 2011 at 8:21 pm

Check your receipt, because for me not only did the Gillette body wash ring up b1 get 1 50% off but so did the deodorant, taking $2.50 off.
So I ended up with 17 cents overage and a 3.17 MM after the RR.
From what I heard so far, it is only the 16 oz body wash that is ringing up that way.
Also, it would be an even better deal to do 4 then, if you have enough coupons (and everything rings up buy 1 get 1 half off…turns it into a $6 MM!

Tanya May 16, 2011 at 9:33 am

When I went to wags, I purchased 4 Gillette BW and 4 Gillette Deo, they only took off $2.50 for 2 of the deo, so no money maker for me. I only had 3 $2 bw q’s. In the end after the rr and q’s, it came out to 98Β’. It’s still all good for 8 items πŸ™‚

Congrats on the interview! You go girl!

Reply

ashley May 16, 2011 at 9:44 am

when i did the bw and deo deal, they scanned the last q thru as 4.99 instead of 2.50. they were having a hard time with it and i tried to tell them it should be 2.50, but they pushed it thru at 4.99, so i made an extra 3RR! woot!

My Walgreens just remodeled and said they discontinued the gillette body wash. Anybody else have this problem? It messed up my deal on body wash since I planned on using the $2 off coupon from today.

I purchased the Dove deodorant today, my RR did not print. Went back to the store and the manager refunded my deodorant to my card and then rang it for free (because of coupon). He tried to make it print the RR but it would not.

I wonder if I should have tried the Gillette deal? The deodorant was $5.49 and the coupon was only good up to $4.99 so I skipped on the body wash and deodorant. I wonder how it all would have worked out?

Reply

Beause the coupon says up to $4.99,Walgreens will give it to you like a $4.99 coupon. So then you just pay the .50 cents. I had BOGO ziplocks for last month, only up to $3.49, Walgreens price was $3.79. Walgreens had BOGO ziplocks, so I had to pay .30 for two boxes. Make sense? Hope it is helpful.

WAGS is having some serious issues right now I’m thinking…. I had $8 in RR NOT print yesterday….then today….my Goody coupons wouldnt work…I was shooting for the 50 Goodys powders 5.00-$3 wags-$2 mc….the printed mc’s wouldnt scan…2 of them….so I gave her the one that was in the newspaper this a.m….it wouldnt scan either. Our WG’s has stayed so out of stock, I decided to show up bright and early…8am…1st day of sale….guess what?….2 Gillete Razors on the shelf…4 Adkins shakes….Zero Dole fruit cup thingys…I’m about to give up… I realize the increase in sales because of couponers (also the increased profit)…but at some point….WAGS has got to bite the bullet and get with the program and make lotsa $ as we stimulate the economy…. Because I showed up at 8 am (to prove a point), I had a clerk say to me (sarcasticly)… “just so you’ll know~we are about to crack down on limits on couponers” ~this…because I was looking at coupons! I looked firmly at her and down at my buggy and said “Do you see me buying over the limit? This is the 1st time I’ve ever showed up bright and early , the 1st day of a sale(and that should NOT be a problem for them)…and the reason is~~~I come in here 3 or 4 times a week trying to get one good deal and cant find a shelf stocked”….I also threw in that they oughtta be glad I’m shopping there, because publix~right across the street LOVESSSSS coupons.” I have really about had it with ignorant ppl that dont realize how everyone can benefit …. stores, manufacturers, shoppers and the economy. Well, maybe thats part of the problem….the employess dont see a benefit in it for them (how about a stable job with potential for growth and great benefits??)~Said my say~ Thx for listening!! Whew~that felt good!! Now let go have some fun :)))

NONE of my RR printed for me yesterday. I was quite upset! I have an array of Walgreens in my area, and I’ve probably gone to at least 6, they never have stock of the sale items, they never have items properly tagged (though they’ve all rang up properly) and they never seem to scan ANY of my coupons, they end up always having to do them manually. Yesterday was my final straw when the cashier, who was rude to begin with, basically laughed in my face when I asked where my RR were (while pointing at the ad and the exact items I purchased from it) and she replied “guess you didn’t get the deal”… seriously wanted to punch her for her smug little response. I left there and went to do some couponing at CVS (for my first time- I’ve pretty much only gone to Walgreens or Walmart) and the shelves were fully stocked and correctly labelled. It was a breeze and the cashier was very nice and friendly. Walgreens definitely lost a customer in me after my experiences in their stores.

Reply

Missy R May 17, 2011 at 12:52 am

Totally call Catalina to get your RRs! It will make you feel better!

And, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but someone recently posted that they do the survey that prints on your receipts and let them know when you’re unhappy. I’ve always ignored those surveys in the past.

Reply

Beth May 17, 2011 at 1:39 am

Also, try calling Walgreens Customer Service…Whenever I’ve had a problem I have called and have gotten nothing but fantastic people on the line…I mentioned that there are 6-12 Wags in my area and that sometimes if an item I am looking for is a good deal that week that all of the stores have cleared shelves…The one rep mentioned talking to the manager at the local store about either ordering more in advance or putting limits on items…Worth a shot especially if there are extremely rude cashiers.

Reply

Lynn May 15, 2011 at 9:02 pm

oops….those goody’s were 5.99 :))

Reply

Julie Smith May 15, 2011 at 9:15 pm

I was told today that I was not allowed to purchase more than one of the Dove deodorants that had the RR because they are limiting RR items to one per customer. I was not cleaning them out by any means. This is a store that I shop at frequently and spent lots of money in. I will stop shopping at Walgreens altogether if they definitely implement this policy as both Publix and CVS treat me nicely when I come in with my coupons.

Reply

Mary May 15, 2011 at 9:25 pm

My favorite local Wags has also started doing this. I can understand since they only get 2-3 of each item anyway. One cashier tried to explain the “ordering” policy to me but I don’t think she had it right.

Good luck in the future.

Reply

Julie Smith May 15, 2011 at 11:09 pm

Mary, now they have No Multiple Transactions allowed! Just found out today. How crazy is that!?

Reply

Susanna May 15, 2011 at 11:39 pm

I recently discovered a closer WAGS to where we live and went there today for the FREE Dove men deodorant deal… ended up buying 9 deodorants (there was more than a dozen left on the shelves), 27 pieces of the B1G1 FREE Scotch tape (a full case was left so I didn’t clear the shelves) and 2 of the Nature made calcium vitamins with last week’s coupons which made them FREE. I didn’t have any problems with the cashier, there were no buying limits and all my RRs printed. FYI I did 9 separate transactions and left with a $4.5MM. I think the WAGS I went to not much people really shop there with the great deals or with the many coupons I used. Oh and I also got 2 rainchecks (at 2 different WAGS) for the Almay makeup remover towelettes a couple of days ago since I scored 4 packs for only $0.98 without taxes !!!

Reply

TONIB4ME May 15, 2011 at 9:24 pm

Have yall read the new Walgreens coupon policy? It does limit-one RR(each deal) per customer. To avoid only getting one, my cashier today told me that I just need to make sure that I don’t do more than one RR per item, per transaction and maybe not use the same credit/debit card for each purchase. And then she said quietly-not that we are supposed to let you do it that way at all, but I will! I have never had issues with my Walgreens and the one time that my RR did not print -they gave my an instant $5 off my purchase. I hope to never run into the nightmarish cashiers that I see you guys talk about!

laura May 15, 2011 at 9:28 pm

I went into my my wags today at 5pm (sunday may 15) to get 2 of the oscar meyer sandwiches that were on sale 2 for $3. They were cleaned out. They have been out of the Tylenol Precise for over a week. I don’t understand why they advertise these items and then do not have them in stock?

Reply

Rose May 15, 2011 at 11:05 pm

I really dont think it is right to immediately assume shelves were cleared by shelf clearers when you arrive at any store. From my experiences they are out before the sale starts or only have a couple to start with. Get a rain check. I am really tired of that phrase shelf clearer. I have yet to see someone clear the shelves, infact I have had other couponers tell me they left a couple on the shelf because they knew I would be coming in any time. Now that is nice of them. We have a good group here and we all stop to chat and discuss things on our shopping trips.

The Walgreens where I shop is pretty good. Some times the shelves are bare and nothing is restocked, sometimes they have plenty. Today was the first really good trip I have had to Walgreens. I did end up having to do more fillers than I really wanted to because one of the Proclinical Toothpastes was clearance priced, so it messed up my total. I also was counting on a RR for my Garnier items and that one didn’t happen. All in all, I did 8 transactions (and no there wasn’t anyone waiting on me, I always go to the end of the line if there is). My pretax total was $22.75 and I saved $151.72. I did not clear any shelves (except I did buy the last two Ginger Ales). I bought 6 Gillette bodywashes, 6 Gillette deodorants, 4 Dove Deodorants, 4 Colgate Proclinical Toothpastes, 2 Garniet Body Boosts, Four 12pk drinks, 6 Scotch tape, 10 Royal Jello, and 14 Mars Candy Bars. I used the candy bars as my fillers and will pull them out for my teenagers when needed. Thank you for your deal ideas on your blog Christie.

Today was the first time I’ve had a negative shopping trip (besides them being sold out almost every single time I go there of sale items) I bought 3 Gillette body wash that were marked as 3/$10. Well they rang up $4.99 each. I questioned the cashier and she called the cosmetics lady and she said “The $3 RR will make it 3/$7” Yes, but it’s not gonna be $7 if the starting total is $15. They didn’t get it. They just kept repeating that the RR would bring it down. I was so frustrated, there was a line forming behind me, and the employees were getting testy. So I just paid for it and left.

So when I checked the ad, it said the 16 oz bottles. Well I bought the 12 oz ones because that’s all they had and they were still marked (unless things were moved around by other customers) So I thought it was my fault, but then why did the RR still print out? How did I get the RR and not the sale price? I am going to take them to a different Walgreens this week (the one closest to my house that is more friendly) and see if they will do a price adjust for me. Hopefully they will?

oiy; the wags I like to shop at is typically good on stock of items on sale, and I usually go mid week. Well, I went this afternoon because I had a few rr’s expiring today and it was very disappointing. I only had a couple things on my list too; colgate, gillette bw, garnier, tape & tylenol precise. The only things in stock at 1 this afternoon were the garnier & tape. AND they now have a sign at the register that effective 5/11 they will no longer do multiple transactions on rr items. Oh well, I guess I won’t be shopping at wags as much anymore (I usually shop once a week or every 2 weeks and only pick up usually 1-2 times the rr items).

Now, for the garnier at the store I was at:
It is buy 2 garnier shampoo, conditioner or hair care products from selected items (can’t remember which hair care, but it was only like 2 or 3 $5.99 care items) and the larger shampoo/conditioners that are $5.99.
Now, my store had the “Triple Nutrition Fortifying Shampoo & Conditioner” large bottles on clearance for $4.59 and those ARE producing the rr because they are the 25 oz size. And there was a bottle of the Sleek & Shine shampoo that had a bonus bottle attached for free which I grabbed. So I got 1 shampoo w/bonus for $5.99 and 1 conditioner on clearance for $4.59 and rec’d the $5 rr.
So look for the large “Fortifying” on clearance! Might not find any of the bonus shampoos because when I tore the package open to separate bottles, there was a coupon inside for hair color that expired on 12/31/2009 lol! πŸ˜‰
So I am guessing that has been in the store for awhile!

I will go back later this week on a Th. after they get their truck to see if I can get some gillette bw & deo. and some more tape!

Have a good night all!

After my horrible experience last week with the Heathrow Walgreens, I opted instead to pass by and go to one in Lake Mary this week to take advantage of the:

Old Spice body wash 16 or 18 oz, Zest 18 oz, Gillette 16 oz 3/$10 = $3 RR

as well as the:
Dove Men+Care deodorant 2.7-3 oz $3.99 = $3 RR
(I was one of apparently the few that got to print this one)

What a night and day difference!!!!

The customer service was polite and respectful, and in the end, I picked up:

2 Old Spice swagger body wash (regularly priced: $8)
1 Gillette body wash (regularly priced: $4)
1 Gillette deodorant (regularly priced: $4)
1 Dove men +care deodorant (regularly priced: $4)

Total β€œregular price”: $20.
With coupons and after RR, I was OOP: $2.99!!!!

Loving it!

I didn’t even bother going to walgreens this week. Too many weeks of finding nothing on the shelves. Heck I BARELY got 4 newspapers (I buy 4, one for every family member, every week) again this week – had to go to three different places to find them. And this was at 11:30 a.m.

Reply

Deanna May 16, 2011 at 1:30 am

I seem to be having the same problem with newspapers here. Today I went to 4 different Walgreen’s and only 1 had newspapers WITH coupons. The other 3 had stacks of newspapers with a sign up that the papers didn’t have coupons. I would say this is unique, but one of the stores has been missing coupons for months. I actually stop by there just to reconfirm that fact, week after week….. lol

Reply

Shawn May 16, 2011 at 9:03 am

So wait…you mean someone is stealing all the coupons out of the papers now?!? That’s disturbing.

After I spend my RRs from this week, Wags is going on my list. I’m sick of their empty shelves, ignorant cashiers and equally ignorant managers. How difficult is it to learn the coupon policy if we all take the time to do it? I will take my business where its appreciated–Target, Walmart, Publix, etc. Here in The Villages, FL, they have a lot to learn!

I think some of the horrible managers and cashiers you guys are running into must be making things up! I never have any of those issues! I almost never do separate transactions, b/c I was afraid of being a pain… I just swing by the WAGS that I pass by every day a couple times a week instead. Well, the other day, my cashier actually OFFERED to split my merchandise into separate transactions when she saw I would be getting several deals with RRs! My cashiers always seem exited for me and impressed when they see how much I’ve saved! I’m hoping things don’t change at my store!

Reply

Missy R May 17, 2011 at 1:00 am

These are the people they should retain as employees! There are plenty of friendly people out of a job that would glad work as managers and cashiers and follow corporate policy and not drag the Walgreen name through the mud!

Today was the first time I brought everything I wanted to buy up to the register at once, and the cashier said I was limited to 2 transactions. It worked out fine, I had to pay $3 and get a $3RR but it came out the same. I was just happy they had everything I wanted to buy(except none of the 5/$5 food).

Listen, folks, unless you complain to WAGS Corporate things aren’t going to change. Go to the WAGS site and comment, complain or congradulate a good shopping experience.

I always do the survey when it prints on my receipt. Just this week they’ve changed a couple questions, specifically asking if you purchased everything you intended, and if not, why? They also ask if the store was fully stocked. Here’s your chance to make a difference — but it only happens if you get involved.

Dove RR still not printing in NE Ohio at noon BUT they gave me a paper I have to fill out and send in to get my RR. They were very nice about it but I had to ask about why I didn’t get the RR. Only then did they offer this mail-in paper. Also had a cashier ask me about the tape coupons yesterday. First she asked where I got them and I told her online. She asked what website and I told her I truly didnot remember. Then she said “These aren’t copied are they?” I said no that I have 2 computers! Interesting…

Anybody find out which Oscar Mayer lunchables are included in the sale? Are the ones with fruit included? We got those wonderful coupons in the SS this week and I was just wondering. πŸ™‚

Thank you so much for the link to the dove coupon. I have been up and down on the internet looking for one when I decided I should really come in and make sure that I hadn’t missed something and there it was! Woot, Woot! Now let’s just hope my WAGS has it. Happy Shopping everyone! πŸ™‚
