Fabulous Walgreens in SW Florida!

by Christie Bisbee on April 28, 2011

Here is a picture sent to me by Krystal of her store in South West Florida. This store actually tapes coupons to the front of the items to encourage shoppers to use them. I bet they have higher sales as a result.ย  What a fabulous store!

(Thanks so much Krystal for sending that along!)

I know that my local Wags in Greenfield, IN does the same thing. It sure can’t hurt sales that’s for sure!

I was also told that this was illegal for some reason or another to do….I can’t imagine why!

I am sure that it would encourage people that are not going to even buy something to really see it and think about it especially w/the q’s right there.

Kudos to that Wags!

Three cheers to any WAGS that promotes coupons. Now there’s a store that wants happy customers!

I only wish they’d rub off on the ones who prefer to criminalize those who use them.

i don’t think it’s illegal publix does it sometimes they tape it to the item- and if walgreeens is doing that with the papers they didn’t sell on sunday that would just get trashed- way to go for them- bringing in money to the store when they could have brought no money in ๐Ÿ™‚ i dunno about the rest of the states but florida was hit hard with less jobs people are not shopping unless they have to or they can make money!

Hi Linda,
I’m the one who sent this picture in. This is a new Walgreens in my area and this was my 1st time in that particular store. The store was COMPLETELY filled from top to bottom with taped coupons on the shelves. The cashiers and the mgr. were also very friendly and patient with me and other people who had a lot of coupons. I asked them “who put all these coupons up?” They said that some lady comes in at nite and does this through the whole store. I was like “wow”…how nice! I’ll be trying to shop at this location again!

I heard it is illegal to attach the coupon to the item. If this is the case, than maybe that is why they are taped to the shelf.

Nice of them to do that! I wonder where they got all those coupons? From another couponer? Unsold newspapers? huh!

If it’s illegal wouldn’t the tearpads or blinkies also be illegal? I think it’s wonderful… Need a coupon? take a coupon. have a coupon? leave a coupon.

I went to the Walgreens on Lake Worth Rd near the tpke to buy the $2.99 Splenda. I had two $3 coupons & one $1 coupon. They told me I could only purchase one because she needed stock for her other customers. ( There were at least 6 more on the shelf! ) I told her there was a RR for purchase of 2 or 3. She said there wasnt,( she just didnt know about it! ) I pursued it & she let me for this ‘one time’ cause I was a regular. But register would only take 2 coupons! Not sure why since I had 3 items ( plus other purchases! )
The Walgreens closer to me is not very coupon friendly either. Publix & CVS will take expired coupons up to a week past the date! Not Walgreens!

Hey Ellen,

Please call corporate and let them know. I’m sorry limiting you to (1)? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Seriously, does this manager want to actually sell things. Perhaps she doesn’t realize that Walgreens doesn’t make money unless they actually sell things. It’s not a museum, it’s a store.

Itโ€™s not a museum, itโ€™s a store. ^^Love this! (Luckily I found an awesome Wags near me).

Hey I used to live right near there. Couponing in mid Missouri now where coupons are welcomed!

I had the same thing happen to me at all 3 Walgreens that I went to (I didn’t want to wipe out a whole store, so went to 3 different ones). At the first Walgreens the guy said it was because the coupons were worth more than the sale price of the items, so he adjusted the coupon prices DOWN to the sale price and no problem! I just showed the receipt to the other two Walgreens and they were able to do the same thing– no beeping!

I’ve seen this occasionally around my area of South Miami ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes it looks as if the store tapes coupons to the product and sometimes it looks like other couponers leave their unused coupons for others…either ways, it’s really nice.

At one particular Wags I go to, there is a particular cashier in the cosmetic department that brings her own coupons (file and inserts) to keep on hand to give customers (especially those with babies) to help reduce their costs at checkout. The customers appreciated it and I think its wonderful of this cashier to do!

I have a store around me that tapes all the left over Sunday coupons each week to all the products…. that stinks if its illegal to do though

Reply

Rebecca April 28, 2011 at 3:42 pm

My store also puts the coupons on the shelf. They don’t tape them to products, but they put them on the shelf (in the little strip with the prices) for people to grab.

I stop buying the Sunday newspaper at Walgreens because the always missed coupon inserts, then I would noticed items with coupons on them just like in the picture. I am actually kind of aggravated by it.

Reply

Samantha April 28, 2011 at 4:06 pm

One of my grocery stores does that. There are coupons hanging next to items from inserts from weeks before. I love it

Reply

LoriN April 28, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Our store does that too.

Christine April 28, 2011 at 6:32 pm

Woo Hoo!!!! My kind of Walgreens…Still don’t understand why most don’t like coupons.. They get reimbursed….

Reply

Wayne April 28, 2011 at 6:43 pm

The Manufacturer’s frown upon this and can actually not reimburse stores for coupons that have tape residue and such on them. I don’t think it is illegal but it may actually get the store’s coupons denied for reimbursement.

I used to work in Cosmetics at Walgreens a few years ago. We had a daily goal of number of customers we were supposed to check out at the cosmetic register. So I’d bring my coupons from home, and if someone grabbed an item I had a coupon for, I could tell them “I have a coupon for that, if you’d like to come back to check out here when you’re done shopping.”

It was a win-win, the customer saved a bit of money, and it helped me hit my customer goal (because back then, most people didn’t know you could check out in cosmetics, and they just naturally went up front!)

I like the “It’s as pretty as a Christmas tree comment”! LOL! I went to WAGS today to do the Splenda deal. I used three $3 off. I also note that there were no signs as to the RR deal, it wasn’t in the ad, and the cashier told me if there wasn’t a sign, then there probably wasn’t. I decided to take my chances as they would be free after coupons anyway. The cashier is like “Ma’am, this coupon is for more than the price of the item.” I’m like “Yeah, adjust it down one cent then.” She huffed and did it then. I thought she was gonna blow a gasket when I bought 12 Snackerz using 6 $1/2 coupons! I tried to be polite and friendly, but I just can’t stand shopping at WAGS! Sometimes it’s not worth the trouble. And it’s not just that one store. There are several in my area (Venice, FL) and they all seem to get huffy when you have coupons.

Paula, I totally understand what you go through. Every time I go to Wags, hoping to leave with out spending an arm and a leg, my deals never work out, they refuse my coupons, everything beeps, managers get called, lines form behind. I feel horrible. I hate shopping at Wags too, especially when things get complicated, like me walking away with something for free, it just never happens for me.

I live in North Port, FL and it just depends on which cashier I get. It is a hit or miss here.

Donna April 28, 2011 at 9:20 pm

I’ve seen coupons taped here or there at times at our Wags. I usually just think it’s customers with extra coupons that leave them taped to the products at Wags.

Occasionally our walgreens will do that too (not that many – that’s a great picture!). Just last week they put the $1.00 off coupons from the paper inserts on their starburst (I think it was starburst) bags of candy.

Lori April 29, 2011 at 2:33 pm

One of my stores occasionally does that as well. It’s not my “regular” store, but when I go there, I’m always on the look-out for Qs!

Once at my local Stater Bros mkt, they taped $2 off coupons onto all of the Frito Lay variety pks (24 ct) which were already on sale for $3.99 or $4.99 (can’t remember). Anyway, I was so happy they would do that, I wanted to hug the cashier!
