One of my FAVORITE parts about couponing is being able to donate items to people who are in need. It’s a small thing I can do to give back to my community. That’s why I am so excited about Couponing for Community.
Couponing for Community is an effort by couponers all over America to use the power of coupons to make an impact. The goal is to donate 10,000 items the week of May 8 – 14th. All you have to do it set aside some items and then donate them the week of May 8 – 14th. You can choose to donate your items to any charity or organization you choose! I plan to donate my items to the Domestic Violence Shelter where I teach. May 14 is also National Stamp Out Hunger day, so giving can be as easy as leaving a bag of non-perishable items by your mailbox.
How To Participate?
– Start to set aside items that you can donate May 8-14.
– I’ll post a special GREAT DONATION ITEMS post once a week from now until May 14th!
– Follow Couponing for Community on Facebook and let them know I sent you!
– Look for special giveaways for those who choose to participate!
I truly hope you’ll choose to join me in putting our extreme couponing skills to work for good! Every little bit helps, even if it’s just one item. If you plan to participate (by just donating one item that week) please leave a comment on this post! 🙂

Absolutely count me in! Thanks for letting us know about such a wonderful project. My kids and I have put together boxes for the troops before. I use it to teach my children that even though we don’t have much, there are those who we can help.
I’m in! My son is actually heading up a collection of items for S.E.T. our local free clinic as his high school service learning project. I have loved all of the freebies I’ve been getting lately to contribute to his collection – mostly sample sizes of hygiene products. I guess we’ll turn in his suitcase full during this week!
Ack!! I’ll be out of town that week but i’ll leave a bag for my hubby to put out. Thanks!
I will be doing this; it is a blessing to be able to give back to those in need.
This is such a great idea! I’m working on stocking our church’s little food pantry. The bus was cut this month that took our local people to the next town every week. I even had my kids excited about using coupons for this. And our church is having a baby shower for a mom in need. I have already started getting great baby items for free or close to free 🙂
im in! i just donated some stuff to a group locally that puts together care packages for our military! love helping and love it even better when we can do it for free or pennies!
Count me in. We’ve already got two overflowing boxes in the kitchen to drop off at our local food pantry.
I am in! I have some stuff already packed up ready to donate. I will hold on to it until that week. Now I have to find out who needs what! Thanks!
Count me in, too! It’s SO easy to participate thanks to coupons. Thank you, Christie — your work blesses us and helps us to bless others.
I actually just gathered 75+ items to donate to local organizations. I am also sending a care package to soldiers overseas. I love the idea of using coupoing to buy stuff to donate. Thanks for promoting donating!
I will definitely participate!!! That is one reason I LOVE couponing! I actually have the resources to give!
Will definetely be donating
Thank you for supporting couponing for your communities. In the reality show era, couponing is now viewed along side hoarding, people need to realize the impact of donating time to helping those in need. We appreciate you.
Count me in! I already have a (small) box of stuff I got for free or nearly that I planned on saving for donating!
That’s a given:) I’m in…The other day I went to Walmart, and got 15 bic razors for free, as I was coming out of the store, I saw a Salvation Army truck sitting there in the parking lot for donations, well, you guessed right, I pulled up and handed him the bag of bics :):) ..Makes me feel good to be able to help a little:) So yes, I’m in:)
This is fabulous…My girls love filling a special shelf in our laundry room to share with others. They will be so excited to fill some boxes and deliver to the childrens shelter.
I bring inexpensive items I score to a donation site that benefits my county’s women and children shelters. (I like that they keep the location of these shelters a secret) I’ll be sure to bring a donation down that week!
I already do this so count me in! With all the free things we get couponing it’s great to be able to give things to those in need.
I have 6 grocery bags of items to give away. Please count me in! Thanks!
Have lots to donate already…what a great idea!
I will absolutely donate items that week! I put aside things I get with my coupons for free or cheap that I don’t need and donate them every month to the military base for care packages for our soldiers overseas. It’s the least I can do and I get to shop on top of it 🙂 Thank you to everyone else who donates items to any cause!
Count me in as well.
Count me in! I have a spot that I put all of my “I picked it up at a great price but really have no need for it” items and then donate when ever it gets full. My family also started helping with this in a small way. Every time someone stays at a hotel…they bring me all of the travel size items from their room. I know some people may think this is strange…but I love travel sized items and some of the shelters may like these even more than full sized!
Already Do It!!!! Don’t plan to stop! I live in a 55+ community and so many people here are living on their social security checks only. It’s sad to see the elderly do without. So every month I donate the extra’s that I have collected to them. It’s amazing how things like NON food items also are received so well too. I was told they need toilet paper and toothpaste as much as canned goods!
I’m in! I was picked to host a Weight Watchers House Party, and I decided to also make it into a “Couponing for Community” workshop too! I’ll be showing my friends and neighbors how they can save money and help their community too! Thanks so much for all you do, Christie! I wouldn’t be able to do this without you! You have literally saved me tons of money and taught me a new way to live!
Already donate to our food pantry at church. If I can get it for under 50cents with coupons, I do , even if we don’t need it because I give it to them. This is a wonderful project!! Count me in too!
I will participate in Stamp out Hunger, but also remind your readers that you can frequently score free to cheap dog and cat food/treats and that there are plenty of shelters in need!
Absolutely Holly! 🙂
I will continue to donate to the Domestic Violence Shelter that I work at in my area. So many of our ladies come in with the clothes on their back and thats about it. All the items we get are greatly appreciated!
I’m with ya! I actually found you site and have been using it for my work, I work for a non-profit Children’s Home in Orlando, Florida. Not only have you been able to save my family money, you have helped me give much needed hygiene items and food to the home. Thank you for all your time and talent you have provided us with!
I will be donating items to the Ronald McDonald House in Pensacola, FL. This charity is a vital part of our local community that provides a Home-Away-From-Home for families with seriously ill children in our local hospitals. So if you have a RMH house in your local area they can always use the items that we are stocking up on.
I’ve been saving up donations for a while for this week! Heck yes I’ll join in!!!
I was wondering what i was going to do with all my overflow now I know. Thanks for all you do meg
Absolutely! Count me in as well 🙂
IM IN!!! I just donated a big basket full of hygeine supplies, and candy, and food, to a Dad and daughter that just lost there home, and everything in a fire.
We just donated to a dad and daughter who lost everything in a fire, also…what do you think the chances are that we are talking about the same people? That would be crazy!
Add me to your list of readers who will donate that week! We just took 2 flats of dog food to the shelter where we rescued our dog. We will work on saving things to share with others. Yippee.
Yes I definately will be doing this. I already donate items thru my local Walgreen store. If fact today, I took 3 bags of goodies back into the store. There, they are sorted and some put in boxes for the troops and the rest put in boxes to be donated to the local food bank. I feel like I get such good deals there that I like to help them help others.
I didn’t know Walgreens did this! I’ll have to check my local Wags. Thanks, and good job!
I’ve been doing this for a long time and I am so glad you do the same and publish ideas! I’m in!!!!
Our family is definitely in! Couponing has blessed us beyond words, and there is no greater feeling than helping others experience the same blessings. Thanks for posting this for everyone!!
I have only been couponing for about 2-3 months and have tons ready to donate. This is a great way to weed out items that are more than our family can use. I only have so much room and don’t want to clutter my house. Thanks for posting this. I am absolutely in!
When I gave up smoking over 2 years ago, I turned my attention to couponing (a much better habit). Since then I have paid pennies on the dollar, if not free or getting paid, to buy for my families personal hygiene products. Now that I know approximate sales cycles and deals I have begun to donate to our school district and it feels really good. I just hope that these type of sales continue to make this possible for the future.
I already donate to a food pantry at a church in my town, and I always leave a bag of groceries out by the mailbox for Stamp out Hunger. I love how couponing helps you to help your community.
Count me in!!! I have a local charity already in mind that goes out in the city and delivers items straight to the homeless. So many of them just don’t want to ask for help. I have been saving all the Mens deodorant and body wash that I get for free with coupons. I’m not married and my Dad and Brother are stocked up for about a year already thanks to my couponing!!!
I have been sharing my cheap/free items with my church’s food pantry. If everyone just donated 1 item a week, I am sure that there would not be as many hungry bellies and more clean bodies and teeth!
Donating items to others (family, friends, and strangers in need) is the #2 reason I coupon. It is so wonderful to save my family money and help those in need, what a blessing! I am hooked! I have found a couple of places to donate items but I have a ton of items ready to donate to a senior center (tena pads, poligrip, joint juice, etc..) and am having a hard time finding where to donate them. Anyone have any suggestions on how to find places to donate in your area?
Chelsea,
Have you tried contacting your local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. My MIL lives in one and they are always needing those items.
Count me in! I donate every month to a local charity, but this seems like a good time to do a little more!
I feel it is so important for everyone in our world to share their excess. If the entire world did this- there would be no starvation or poverty (God’s Economy). I always donate as much as I can (which is more now that I coupon!) each month- but will do extra that week to support this cause!
Right now I have a copy paper box full of items for donation to our local resuce misson, I may have to drop it off and start a new one before the dates for this but I’m sure there will be more to go then too.
I would love to participate in this! I did Stamp Out Hunger last year and I’ll do it this year too!
Donating to shelters is such a great idea! We held on to several Chef Micheal’s coupons and will be using them for good.
I am so thankful for your site! I have only been doing it for a few months, too…but had a lot of extra items. Our community had two tornadoes several weeks ago (Pulaski & Draper, VA). We NEVER had tornadoes, here!
Our Walgreens in Dublin, VA was collecting donations for tornado relief, so I donated two bags of items last week.
Very glad to see the couponing community being involved…I will try and gather up some more items for more donations. It is great being able to help, and having it so easy thanks to Wild for Wags!
Absolutely!
I work with the homeless and we run a pantry. I donate to it each and every week.
I’ve also started another bag for the Soldiers & Sailors home.
Plan on loading down the mailman too 😀
That’s the wonderful thing about couponing, you can pass it on and spread it out without thinning out your wallet!
I live in South Florida North Palm Beach area and I can not find any place to donate food and personal care items. If anyone has a list of places or any suggestion please let me know.
Thanks
Count my husband and myself in!! You betcha!! We already donate to 4 local charities each week and actually started couponing in order maximize our giving potential within our budget. Couponing has been such a wonderful gift to us. Thank you for spreading the word.
Oh good, that’s more my style! 🙂
I’m in!!!
