The Dr. Oz Show “Amazing” Deals?

by Christie Bisbee on January 21, 2011

I’m pretty busy during the day so I rarely have the opportunity to watch TV. Many of you e-mailed me about catching the segment on Dr. Oz about how you could save money on drugstore items, which happened to be shot at Walgreens.  So of course I had to go check it out!

I have to admit, I did find it a little funny. One of the highlights of the show was the “amazing” deal in the cold remedies isle.  So I’m expecting something fabulous because this is Dr. Oz (who is awesome), and this is national TV.  Well, the “amazing” deal in the cold remedies isle was getting cough drops for $.49.  HUH? That’s it? Someone quick, get that woman (4) Sinex coupons! 😉

If you read this blog you will probably chuckle too at the idea of $.49 cough drops making it on National TV, but people seemed genuinely amazed by it. You can click on the image above to watch the clip of the show.  And if you saw it let us know your thoughts!

I laughed when I read your comment. She did a horrible job explaining the RR. Most people have trouble grasping the concept let alone moneymakers. I’m glad I’ve bought cough drops that I’ve ONLY paid the sales tax. Thank you for all you do!

When I try to watch the video it says the item selected is not currently available.

Ya, there is already hardly anything left when i go to Walgreens. Everyone seems to know the deals. I just got two bags of Halls for free yesterday at Publix.

What, people still pay for that kind of stuff? I went to Publix yesterday and bought 2 bags of Halls cough drops, 2 Mrs. Paul’s Fish Fillets & 2 bags of Steamfresh veggies. After coupons, I paid $1.94 for all.

Silly shows.

.49 cents= too much. But the general public thinks that if you can get something for a $1.. then its a GOOD deal.I got my free ones at Tar’get. Walgreens was OUT. Most the RR items go fast, within the first 30 minutes on Sunday AM at our stores. Gotta be quick!

I rarely ever pay more than just sales tax for cough drops and that’s for Halls brand, usually at Rite Aid with stacked coupons and +UPs.

Yeah, we just moved to Olathe and these Walgreens are horrible to keep items in their ad stocked on the shelves. I have even been told “We did not get that in”. WTH? Is that legal to advertise sale items and then not have them shipped &stocked at the stores?

I have to agree. I saw a post about that video, so I checked it out, and I was like “okay, is that GREAT? I don’t think so” I think I’ve bought all those items for under a dollar, not just the ones she chose. But then again, we wait for the sales and she had to work with whatever was going the particular week they filmed. I just didn’t feel like that segment accomplished anything.

“Someone, quick, get that woman 4 Sinex coupons.” ROFL! I’d much rather spend that 49 cents on 3 Kraft Homestyle Mac and Cheese dinners…those cough drops are just too pricey. 🙂

Wow, I wonder how many people will actually try to go and get these deals though. With more and more couponers going mainstream it kind of worries me that they prices of items as well as buying coupons will go up making it a lot less affordable. Does anyone else worry about this too?

You mean we’re supposed to PAY for cough drops? Imagine that.

I have to buy some Ricola this week and I’m TOTALLY bummed that I actually have to pay .49 instead of getting ’em for free like I did last month!

Did anyone else notice that her Walgreens seemed abnormally large??? These Utah Walgreens are built way smaller than that!

“…get that woman 4 Sinex coupons!” LMAO!

I’m constantly amazed at what people will pay for groceries, etc. $5.00 for cereal!!! People really do! My mom couponed, so I’ve been couponing my entire life. I often give coupons to people in line who have items in their carts that I have coupons for. It absolutely KILLS me to see someone waste so much money. But really, it’s none of my buiness. I just try to be nice and casual about it and people are generally grateful in return. I’ve even gotten a couple marriage proposals. From men. LOL!
