Updates from the Field 9/5

by Christie Bisbee on September 5, 2010

Today has been a crazy day. First I got a late start, then my store was swamped with people and when I got home my server went down! Let’s hope there’s no more excitement in store for me today. Here’s some news from my shop today.

HERBASHINE DEAL
I’m happy to say that the Herbashine deal went perfectly and my store finally added signs for this monthly deal. This is definitely the best week to do this deal because of the in ad coupon. If you use hair dye $1.32 is a fabulous price for this product! You can check out the deal HERE.

NESTLE DEAL
You win some, you loose some. After trying practically every candy bag in my store made by Nestle (much to the dismay of the gentleman who came up in line behind me for cigarettes) I couldn’t find a single one that worked for both the $2.50 price point and the monthly coupon book. Although there is some overlap in the sizes that should work for both, at my store at least, that size candy bag doesn’t exist. If you find one that does let us know!

CLEARANCE SCHOOL SUPPLIES
I was worried about cheap fillers this week but luckily my store had a TON of 75%+ school supplies. I picked up a bunch of the full size composition books for $.25 each! There were folders and filler paper (no pun intended) for $.25, 1 subject notebooks for $.50 and a bunch of other goodies so look out for clearance school supplies!

Has anyone had trouble with the Quaker Oatmeal deal? It didn’t print the RR in Palm Bay, FL.

It printed for me in Florida. I purchased the reduced sugar combo pack. Which one did you buy?

Thank you for posting this. I was just thinking that I needed to get some hair dye. Just got back from Walgreens. Picked up three boxes. Thank you so much for all your hard work keeping up this site!

I had the stupidest thing yesterday happen to me at wags. I had the purina one dog pouches and was going to use the $2 coupon. Well the coupon beeped and I told him that he had to adjust the coupon down. The cashier held up the pouch and said to the manager that the coupon had beeped. And instead of the manager telling him to adjust the coupon down, the manager said that he COULD NOT ADJUST IT DOWN because of the new coupon policy! (so I said forget it… then got it at the wags down the street) Then when I went home my cousin and her boyfriend (a wags manager) were at my house. So I asked him if he could adjust the coupon down, and he said “no, i actually just had to refuse a lady who had a raincheck for something that was $3.99 and had a coupon for $4” (I wonder what she was getting? 😉 ) So then I printed off the policy and will keep that with me in my binder from now on!

I only had a slight problem with this deal (Central FL). I did the John Frieda deal THEN did the hair dye deal in a second transaction (to use the $5RR from John Frieda) and the store manager said I couldn’t do anymore RRs because “there is a new rule that only TWO RR deals per customer”..I tried to explain to her that they were for different products but she said it didn’t matter?! I didn’t argue with her, I just went to a different Walgreens two blocks over and got more there lol..it was weird though! Anyone else heard of this “new rule”?

Angela – These “New Rules” are just rules that some bad managers make up because I guess they don’t actually want to sell products in their stores. You were doing two different deals from two different manufacturers. It’s ridiculous.

I say call corporate. It’s not advertised anywhere that you can only do 2 RR a day for any of the RR items in the store. And I’d also let them know that you are going to file a complaint with the state attorney general, which you can do HERE. If you are going to advertise the deals and then tell me I can’t do them when I get to the store… sounds like false advertising to me!

I find that whenever i scan someone for a l’oreal hair dye, most of the time a catalina prints for a clariol product. And this is BEFORE you pay! (i’m a BA)

Today a few coupons from the sep booklet weren’t working saying “FILE CANNOT BE ADDED” or something like that. Even though it was THE CORRECT item. Are you sure that the candy wasn’t working if it meet the specification? Maybe it’s only halloween candy? Usually around this time they mostly apply to the halloween candy coming in.

Hi Laureen – If you find candy that works with the booklet coupon and is ringing up $2.99 let us know. I couldn’t. The coupon was working for bags that were way more expensive.
