OK. So, I am confused. Not sure why but I found these for 1.99 at my store and asked really nicely for the person to mark the item up to 2.00 (1 penny difference) and they refused to do it. WHY??? You mentioned a guy bought them for .50 and got to us the 2.00 Q. What am I doing wrong????

Jessica – Some stores have them marked for $.50. It looks like your store does not. I have no idea why the cashier refused to price modify for you. Did he or she tell you why they refused to do it?

It’s up to each store to decide what they will and won’t accept. Did you speak to a manager. The cashier may not care about loosing a customer but it’s not worth it to a good manager to loose a customer over a $.01. Especially since they are going to paid the full $2 by the manufacturer anyway.

Christie: Thank you for the fast reply. Sorry I am slow in responding. lol But, yes they called the manager to see if they could do it and they were told they were not allowed to. I am not exactly sure of the reason. There were alot of people in line so I did not make a big deal about it, I just put my stuff back. I wish the Walgreens here were as friendly as the ones you appear to have in your area.

Thanks again for all your hard work in helping us save… 🙂

Jessica – That is so silly. They can up the price on anything they want to. There’s no such thing as “aren’t allowed to”. By who, the police? LOL. I’m sorry your store is being that way!

I went last week and bought 10 bags + other things for the overage. This particular Wags had them on sale for 1.49. The system would only allow 7 coupons and then they would beep.I ended up paying my other stuff and what seemed like a dollar extra no biggie I thought I can use my coupons next time. SO I go to another wags yesterday. They had it at 1.99 I got 3 bags but the third coupon beeped. I asked if she could ring it up for $2 sd she had to ask manager, manager said no can only use one coupon. Oh well I guess I will get my last 3 bags at Target. They are $1 there.I think the key is to buy multiples of the same to absorb the overage so it seems like you are buying one, because it can’t give you overage on other items. If this makes sense.Oh well I still LIKE wags. I get plenty of good deals from them!

I picked some up today. My store had it for $1.99. I got 4 bags and the register beeped on the 4th coupon. The cashier tried a couple different things to get it to go through. The assistant manager came over and tried a few different things… We added in a Reese’s cup and it still wouldn’t work. She called the store manager over and he modified the coupon amount to 1.99 and everything worked fine and I didn’t have to buy the Reese’s cups. Just paid $0.56 tax. My store was a complete disaster area with TONS of empty shelves. They had about 15 employees there redoing their modulars.

hi Christie, I have a quick question for you. I hope you don’t mind!
I was told by a manager they couldn’t change the price from $1.99 to $2 because the coupon would be invalided. Is this true?

Roxy – No the coupons isn’t “invalidated” because you paid a penny more for the product. I love these excuses people make up!

I bought 7 bags and my 7th coupon beeped too. The coupon ended up being a mgf coupon with the Target emblem. They told me it beeped becasue it was a Target coupon. I showed them that it said mgf, but they still wouldn’t try to take it. I ended up just voiding one bag off. Am I right that a mgf coupon with a target emblem is stil a mgf coupon and can be used anywhere? I am wondering if it just beeped liked Kells because I had 7 coupons and it just happened to be the one with the Target emblem on it.

Sarah- I used actual newspaper coupons and they still beeped. I don’t think the beep is avoidable if it is a IP or paper coupon. Almost seems like you have to buy one to get the rest of the bags free. Weird~~~~~~

Here’s the deal – You can’t get overage at Walgreens in 99% of the cases where you are not using an IVC coupon. If you are using a MQ, even if it’s a penny you can’t get overage in 99% of the cases. That’s why if it’s priced at $1.99 you need to have them ring up 8 if you have 7 coupons because of the overage. A $2 off coupon won’t work. If they will price modify for you to $2 than you won’t have to do that. But if it’s off by even a penny, it won’t work.

so glad you have this discussion:) I went last night and was told no, because it beeped. I asked why? they( the cashier and managers that gathered) and then they said it was because walgreens does not accept coupons higher than the amount of the item (wth?) So, I asked them to do what the other stores (not a lie) do and adjust the coupon amount or the item amount…….crickets
One manager finally shook her head no. So i just had the cashier take the item off. Then as 1 manager was walking off, I asked the one left if this was a new company policy? or just a store policy? she said she’d never heard of it. I just had to chuckle, this is what annoys me about wags- the ever-changing policies-lol
Just a note- this manager is the same one who insisted on giving me a “hand written” on receipt tape RR for the aloe socks a few weeks ago:)

Guys, it works like this example: If you have 3 Fusion coupons for $4 and the fusion is on clearance for $3….. if you spend $12 you can use $12 in coupons. If you spend $9..you cannot use all 3 ($12). The total amount of the products you are buying must be exactly the coupon amount or LESS. The number is not important. The reason the 7th coupon beeped is because you bought 7 bags @ $1.99 and this total is $13.93 but 7 coupons @ $2 each = $14. SOME cashier will adjust no problem, but if you don’t want your coupons to beep, just make sure the products add up to the coupons amount or more than the coupons total. My cashiers are always very leery to adjust any coupon, so I just use these guidelines. This is why Sean could use the coupons the way he did..he had 22 bags @ .50 each..$11 and he used 4 $2 coupons ($8) and 3 $1 coupons($3)..exactly $11. No beeps, no problems! Hope this helps!
