Here is the advertisement I had in my Smart Source insert today. Not only is this advertising both a coupon in the insert and a coupon in the Monthly IVC coupon booklet, it’s laying out the exact scenario for me to use! That “Additional In-Store Walgreens Coupon” is from the Monthly IVC coupon book for May.
So if I’m not allowed to use both why is Walgreens taking out 1/2 page ads encouraging me to come into the store and do just that? Hmmmm….

Here’s one, also from today’s newspaper, for all of you who have been told “if you use a coupon your Register Reward won’t print”. If that was the case why is Walgreens buying 1/2 page ads telling me how much money I’m going to save by combining the MQ in this insert and the $3 Register Reward I’m going to get for buying Zantac?
Just two more ads I’ll be keeping in my coupon binder for all eternity!
If you have either of these ads in your insert let us know, and let us know what state you are in!

I ran into m first problem with this on Friday.
I was buying 3 infusium, 2 cans of fruit, and eos shave cream
I was using 3 infusium MQ, infusim IVC, fruit in ad, and 3 RR
Now this should work, in theory……..
But when my cashier was scanning the RR the register went *BEEP* and he could not get my last RR to go through. 🙁 The only explanation was that he had not yet scanned the fruit coupon, but when he did it went down to like $2.91 and I was trying to use a $3 RR so maybe that is why.
I think they are finally getting it.. LOL.. why do the coupon experts understand this first? funny.
Where did you get that ad? Thanks
It was in my newspaper insert. Check your paper to see if it’s in yours too.
Hi Christie,
Both half-page Walgreens Ads were found in the San Antonio Express News newspaper (I don’t buy the local paper). There are 8 WAGS Stores here in Corpus Christi, TX. The managers of these stores report to a WAGS District Manager who resides in Corpus Christi and his office is located in one of the 8 stores. I have met with the District Manager on several occasions when store managers and cashiers began straying from WAGS Corporate Coupon Guidlines. The District Manager has responded to my issues and concerns and at this time all of the store managers are on the same page. Of course that could change when a new District Manager comes to town. I believe that if your readers will take the time to meet with their District Managers, most of the ongoing and recurring coupon problems we experience from time to time will slowly go away. One of my successes with the District manager was when I asked him what the difference was between money and coupons. He thought for a moment and then said, “There really is no difference”. When that light bulb lit, I knew that the local WAGS Coupon Poolicy was going to get considerably easier to understand for bth WAGS Employees and Coupon Shoppers.
In Chicago we have those ads in today’s Smart Source insert, but I’m not sure what the $2.00 “Additional In-Store Walgreens Coupon” refers to, as our May IVC coupon book does NOT have a coupon for the Off Clip-On Starter. We have a $1.00 off any Off product that specifically excludes the Clip-On Starter.
I’m really curious about this, because I was recently denied using both a mfr coupon and an IVC coupon – register beeped and cashier wouldn’t push it through, and was really vocal and unpleasant about it.
Wonder if this ad is somewhat national/regional but doesn’t actually work in Chicago? (where, of course, Wags is headquartered…)
The coupon we have in our May IVC Booklet for the OFF is right above that $1 Off coupon and has a picture of the Raid Max.
-$2/1 Raid Max Bug Barrier w/battery Operated Trigger Spray, 30oz or OFF Clip-On Starter (5767).
I am also VERY curious about this too because of the number of people I have contacting me with the same problem you had. I really want to hear from you guys on this!
Edit: Somehow missed that coupon in the IVC book – we DO have the clip-on coupon in the IVC booklet in Chicago. I’m going to email Walgreens.
Let us know what they say, I’m really curious.
I got it too! in my Smart Source I got one for the Deli Creations it says Walgreens price w/ in-ad coupon $1.99 – $1.00 Manufacturer Coupon final cost .99 and I got the zantac page you did
I’m in N. Alabama and we didn’t get that ad in our inserts. So far I’ve not run into a problem with the stores in my area using both, but what a great thing to have on hand!
This afternoon I went to the closest Wags near me and they were out of the Gillette body wash already! I wish these people would order enough, it drives me crazy!
That’s crazy! My store had like 30 of the Gillette and 30 of the Old Spice. More than I know they could possibly sell in that store.
I think thats a very good idea. (lol)
Can you ask the store manager to order a certain product (certain # of that particular product) for you? My store only had 5 of each kind of Gilette body wash for 10 total, so I only used one Q for BOGO, and didn’t want to take more than my share. Of course, I went back last night after I got my Qs organized and they were completely out.
You can certainly tell them that you came in on Sunday night and they were totally out of the Gillette. Your store may be nice and order more during the week. I’d ask them when their next shipment comes in and if they plan on ordering more of them since you’d like to be able to buy it.
We got it too! in our Smart Source TAMPA FLORIDA (pinellas county & pasco county papers, Tampa trib & St.pete times)
We got one for the Deli Creations that says Walgreens price w/ in-ad coupon $1.99 – $1.00 Manufacturer Coupon final cost .99
we also got the zantac page same as yours
We didn’t get the insert because that would have been helpful yesterday! For the OFF Clip On, shouldn’t I be able to use the B1G1 Free (Manu) + $2 (Manu) + $2 (IVC) on 2 clip ons? If so, how should they be scanned?
That sounds right, you have 2 MQ and 2 products (one coupon each) and then a store coupon. The $2 is a $2/1 so it only applies to one product so that should be fine. I’d do it in the order you listed.
We got it in northeastern Wisconsin’s State Journal and Chicago Tribune, and the Green Bay Press Gazette.I am keeping these in my purse!
Update on Wags coupon policy:
A store manager called in response to my email to the corporate office (in which I specified this happened at all the Wags in my neighborhood, not just one, but a mgr from my closest Wags called me)…
You CAN use BOTH a mfr coupon and an IVC coupon (monthly coupon booklet) on the same item. I told him I tried to do this in the past and the second coupon beeped and the cashier wouldn’t push it through…and it was embarrassing and frustrating…and he told me to just have a cashier call him and he would tell them to push it through. He was very nice. (Makes me think the register will still beep on the second coupon, but if there’s a REALLY good deal, I may do it).
Thanks so much for making that call! And now you won’t have to worry about that problem anymore! Yippee!
Reporting from Washington state… No Wags ads in the coupon inserts. Also, I never have any problem with using an IVC and MC… The problem seems to be regional.
