I got that coupon a couple of weeks ago, and it was legit. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the receipt and saw that I did get the full credit. Enjoy your good fortune!
I got this deal a few weeks ago too, but as a “register reward”-type coupon like the ones that often print”$10.00 cashback when you spend $40.00″, or “$11.00 when you spend $50.00”. I wasn’t planning on buying much again within a week (when those coupons generally expire) so I had it on kitchen counter with papers to go in recycling, when I realized it said, “$10.00 cashback when you spend $1.00”!! I kind-of couldn’t believe it, but I took it to store and indeed it worked. So check those register-generated coupons–your deal may be there even though it’s not in your paperless coupons online.(My “mystery coupon is for $10.00 back on $25.00, still an incredible deal-40% back on needed medicines, toiletries, frozen foods, household things like laundry detergent, is a deal you’ll never see at the supermarket).
I just checked and found the same coupon in my account. So I have a question… I have been away from couponing at Walgreens for a long time (4-5 years). On Monday I needed a couple of things and when I paid for my order the printer gave me a coupon for $9 Cash rewards when you spend $30 or more. Then the cashier said she had 2 more coupons and if I wanted them, those were $5 when you spend $10 or more. Well… now I feel obligated to use them, lol. I forgot how things work with catalinas and the rewards, I somewhat remember about the thresholds, before tax, after coupons, etc. If I use points to pay for lets say $10 in my transaction over $30 and I apply one of those coupons ($9 when you spend $30 or more)… will I still get those $9 dollars in rewards? Thank you in advance for the reply!

Walgreens changed their rewards from points to dollars a few years back. When you use cash rewards that you’ve accumulated in your account, that’s money that you aren’t actually spending. So in your example, if your total was $30 and you used $10 in cash rewards to pay for part of it, then you actually only spent $20 and wouldn’t meet the minimum spend required to earn the $9 cash reward.
Walgreens can be VERY confusing, but once you get the hang of it, there are great deals to be found there. I tell people that couponing at Publix is like 8th grade algebra, but couponing at Walgreens is like graduate level calculus.
While the $9.00 cashback coupon wouldn’t work, the $5.00 cashback SHOULD in the transaction you described-because you used $10.00 of your cashback on $30.00, you’d still have $20.00 spent, so if you gave your cashier the $5.00 coupon, you SHOULD get the $5.00 added to your balance. SOMETIMES, for me, this doesn’t work-especially when I have added lots of manufacturer coupons to the purchase, and the Walgreens managers typically tell you that, if you used cashback $$ toward your purchase, you can’t get cashback deals like on the register coupon. If you read the details of Walgreens policy, that’s not accurate, but it’s usually not productive to argue w/the employees. Over time, I’ve learned which store managers DO know the policies & when I want to make a transaction like that, I try to go when those managers are on duty. Then, if the cashback$$ are not added, they can add them as a transaction at the register. But if you encounter the first kind of manager I described, it’s best to just call Walgreens corporate later and reference the purchase you’re questioning, & they can add the cashback $$.
