FREE Aspirin, Just not $ Making Aspirin

by Christie Bisbee on April 18, 2010

I couldn’t sleep wondering about this Bayer deal. So at 1:30 in the morning I decided to drive out to the 24 hour store to give it a try.  I didn’t even need to try try it. Here is the sign I saw on all the Bayer Aspirin when I got there.

I’m disappointed of course (I was excited about the possibility of money making aspirin!) but like I said in my original post it was a get your coupons together and sit tight situation.  I’m happy to drive out the Walgreens in the middle of the night if it means getting you the information as early as possible. (And a HUGE thank you to my super sweet hubby for understanding!)

On the bright side, I’ve created 2 NEW scenarios for you not including the Bayer Aspirin. AND we can still have FREE Aspirin, just not money making Aspirin, thanks to a coupon sent to me by Natasha at Saving a Bundle (Thanks Natasha!)

Buy
2 – Bayer Aspirin Low Dose 32ct $2.99 each
Total = $5.98
Use
2 – $1.50/1 Bayer Aspirin PRINT
Total = $2.98, Get $3 RR
= FREE (Plus $.02)

It’s still a GREAT week (Nature’s Bounty here I come) and hey, there’s FREE aspirin.

Dang it. I spent the evening planning my trip for tommorrow also including those aspirins. Was hoping for a really low OOP which I would have gotten with the overage. Why did they have to do change it.

Christie, you ROCK!! 🙂

My Wags opens at 7:00am so I went early (it never ocurred to me to check here first) and sure enough the Bayer didn’t work. BUT, unlike your store, mine had no sign and the manager who, by the way, I am going to fill out a survey about for being so UNHELPFUL (I’m trying to be nice ’cause what I really have in my mind is profanity right now, sorry!) was TOTALLY CLUELESS.

Regardless, I did pretty good. Got the vitamins and a couple of things I needed, spent less than $20.00 and still have 15 in RR. Not too shabby, right?

Thanks again for always keeping us updated.
😉

Weird… I’m looking at the coupon itself, and a 32-ct is pictured right there on the coupon. I would think they have to honor that!

My Walgreens did not have the sign posted so I tried the regular 3.29 Bayer just to see if they would push it through. If a knowledgeable person (I’m guessing some type of manager) hadn’t been there to read the e-mail to the cashier about the coupon, they probably would have pushed it through because there was no count on it. Oh well, I got 3 Bayer aspirins for $.60 so only $.20 a piece! (I found one that included a free bonus pack) Thanks for the heads up so I could go to the store with a backup plan!

I noticed in the #2 transaction, you use 3 Qs for the toothbrushes. Are you actually buying 2 and the 3rd is the free one? If so, are you allowed to use a Q on a free item? Will they allow that? Can you clarify please? Thx!

Christie April 18, 2010 at 1:58 pm

Sure, you are actually buying 3 toothbrushes. One is free (that’s the B1G1 coupon), one is $3(-$2/1 coupon) the other is $3 (-$2/1 coupon). So 3 toothbrushes, 3 coupons. You actually are not using a coupon on the free one other than the coupon that made it free to begin with. Hope that helped! 🙂

Just got back, figured I’d try it anyway. I was prepared to point out the picture on the coupon if need be, and stand my ground. As you say, the register wouldn’t take the store coupon. They had to finagle it by doing a price adjustment to $0.01 instead of using the $3 store coupon (which works about the same), and it still took my (2) $1.50 coupons off, AND I got my $3 RR. On top of that there was a double pack for the same price as the 32 ct, so all in all I ended up with 96 caplets and a $6 overage. It worked! Woot!

I also tried the Bayer at my store. I purchased two of them at $3.19 apiece for me. And yes, the registered beeped and beeped. The cashier finally just took off $3.00 (instead of $6, but I wasn’t complaining) so still a great deal for me! Worth a try, but you have to be prepared for overage by having extra items in your transactions.

OK, tried the deal ’cause I didn’t check this site first. Long story short, no signage but it didn’t go thru even though I had a SUPER helpful manager. He did point out one useful nugget of info: He said as of about 3 weeks ago using ANY manufQ on a RR item will CANCEL the RR! I’m eager to hear your comments on this because I know firsthand the whopper stories Wags personnel can come up with sometimes. 99% of them are truly tryingto be helpful, but just don’t know any better. Thanks!

Glad your manager was super nice but he’s a bit confused on the MQ canceling the RR. There was only 1 situation like that recently on this Zyertec, Benadryl, Sudafed, Tylenol coupon but that was a fluke because the coupon was coded exactly like a RR. Otherwise you can still use a MQ on a RR item and get the RR. Just did it earlier today. Hope that helps!

Thanks for all your time! I was up early this morning to do this deal, but checked your site first. Glad I did. I lucked out that the Heart Health was on clearance at my store for $3.24. Used the $1.50 Q and the $3 in ad Q, so managed to get a little overage at least. The Low Dose still worked out to be free so, I’m happy with that. I’ll be passing on all of the Bayer products to my parents anyway. Thanks again for your great site!

I went into my local Walgreens when they opened @ 8 AM. Because the RR signs were up for the Bayer, my manager let me have “2” of them as BOGO. But was only able to use 1 x $1.00 off coupon since he had already price modified – that means that I did NOT get the $3.00 RR.

I was in such a stressed state because my scenarios crashed (I’m still new at this) that I let it slide. I may go back later today and return them. And do this new improved deal so that I get the RR.

The way my manager talked to me, I get the impression that it was not a mistake in the sense that someone realized what was going to happen and yanked it at the last minute. Just my thought. The $3.00 Q will stick work — just only on the larger sizes.

I am a total Wags-noob, so I’m sorry if my questions are either ridiculous or have really obvious answers… are you able to do all those transactions during the same store visit or do you have to use them on different days/times? Also, I missed the P&G insert in our sunday paper, is it possible to find a copy somewhere else??

Thanks so much for the info on this site. I’m sure it takes a lot of time to compile! I am SO glad I stumbled upon it!

Question on the pull-ups…

The Wags coupon book for the pull-ups says, “Manufacturer coupon good only at Walgreens. Not valid with any other offer…” My store has had issues with using a manufacturer’s coupon with their book coupons because they both look like manufacturer’s coupons to the computer/cash register. Has anyone tried using both coupons and had success? I love my WAGS, but I don’t want to have a hassle when I’m there over a package of pull-ups.

Christie April 18, 2010 at 6:35 pm

Hi Beth, each store can set its own coupon policy. If you use the MQ first and the booklet coupon 2nd the register will accept them in that order. If you use the booklet first, it will not work. So if you try it make sure to use the MQ first.

I don’t see the Bayer $3 RR in the ad, what page is it?

Reply

Denise April 18, 2010 at 11:06 pm

I went in to get my Bayer also this morning and the register would not take the WG coupon because it was more than the product. There was no sign on the shelve about the misprint. The manager explained that is was a misprint in the ad. I told her to hold them for me while I checked with our district manager about honoring the ad. I left a message with 1800Walgreens for our district manager. I saw Christie’s new scenario so I decided to go ahead and get them and when I went back later in the day the new manager for that shift gave 6 of them to me for free plus $3 in RR. She said they should have taken care of it earlier. I’m not sure if my call to the DM had anything to do with it.

Here’s how I did the Bayer deal. Not nearly as good as I orginally thought, but still a money maker!
Buy 2 Heart Healthy Bayer 40ct. These are on clearance for $3.29 each. I used 2 $1.50 man. coupons (from the Bayer website) and used the $3.00 wag. coupon (which took off $6.00). Total ended up +$2.42(before sales tax)!

Yes, it’s in the ad so if you have that you should be good in case of any problems.

Just thought I’d share my experience.
1st Wags I went to wouldn’t let me use the in-ad Q for the 32 count $2.98 pack even though I pointed out that it was the EXACT pkg in the picture in the Q. But I still had the $1.50/1 so still a pretty good deal.
2nd Wags cashier was with me on the fact that it was the same product in the pic ( I didn’t have any other $1.50/1 so I was just trying to get them free at this point-no overage) So he said he would “fix” it so that the $3 would come off. So I thought Yay!. Well, what he did was “void” the two boxes off of my transaction (I bought Vitamin for $5 RR as well). Since he voided the two off it didn’t print my $3RR for buying two. I didn’t realize this until everything printed and the transaction was over. and since I got the 2 boxes for free I wasn’t going to argue.
So just be sure if you have a cashier “adjust” anything that they do it the right way and don’t Void the two items altogether!!! (but again, I’m not complaining b/c they were free and I’m giving them to my mother who has to take one every day!)

I too tried the Bayer deal today since there were no “apology signs” up. Before I even tried to check out I went to a store clerk and asked for the manager. When I showed her that the pic on the Q matched what I was getting @ 2.99 she said we could try it. The register beeped, but she pushed it through anyway. I didn’t push my luck with the MQ for another $1 off ea. since I was getting them for free AND then the $3 RR still printed. 🙂 Chances are apology signs went up shortly after I left, but if your store doesn’t have anything up about it, just be super nice and it’s very likely they’ll do it for you.
