I just got back from a really cool fundraiser for a local Food Bank (Palm Beach County Food Bank) and I thought I’d share. I know many of you use coupons to donate to charity so I thought you’d enjoy this!
My dear friend JC and the architecture firm where she works, Leo A Daly, participated in this super neat event called Canstruction. They used cans to create a Florida themed sculpture. Many different firms participated and all the cans are being donated! I was so proud of the great job they did, in winning 4 out of 7 awards, including People’s Choice for the best sculpture!
The Loggerhead Turtle sculpture made of tuna cans, bottled water and bags of rice will all go to needy families in our area.
Do you use coupons to donate to your local food banks, churches or charities?

What a neat idea and super cool sculpture! I love donating my couponing bounty to foodbanks. If there are items I can get for free (or MM of course) but don’t really need/use, they go into my donation bag! After I learned how to save enough money for my family through couponing to stop using the food bank, I love being able to give back!
Hey Joy, I have a question for you. I have 2 bags of food which I assembled for the May food drive to be taken by the mail carrier but I forgot. I wonder where to take that bag? Any info will be of much help. Thanks.
Wow, that is an awesome sculpture! I love Turtles! What a great cause!
Christie, this sounds like a fabulous event for a food drive / fundraiser. So many of us would never miss 5 or so cans of food that is so desperately needed by others. I’ve learned that it only takes a snap of your fingers be in momentary crisis not knowing how you were supposed to feed your family. Do you happen to have a web address that gives details on this food drive? I’d like to pass it on to my local aid agencies.
Hi ask!
The Palm Beach County Food Bank’s website is: http://www.pbcfoodbank.org/ and the Canstruction website is: http://canstruction.org/ – they hold events all over the world.
This event was an awesome experience and I’m just honored to be a part of it! Thank you Christie for your support, taking photos, and bringing awareness to this worthy cause.

I went to one in NYC a couple of years ago and it was sooooo much fun. I remember one was a train made out of cans and in cans it was written I think I can, I think I can. So many clever exhibits.
