How Do You Miss A Fire Truck?

by Christie Bisbee on September 18, 2010

UPDATE – Thank you all so much for your kind words, they really mean so much to me. I’m doing ok this morning. No worse than yesterday so I consider that a good sign. As for my car… well, we’ll find out more next week. In the meantime being a one car family for a while should prove to be interesting. I think I’ll take Allison’s suggestion and stock up on the free Thermacare heat wraps! 🙂

It’s hard to miss a bright red fire truck with it’s lights flashing and sirens going. Unfortunately, today someone did and that same person plowed into the back of my car as I and other vehicles stopped to let the fire truck pull out of the fire station.  I’m ok, albeit shaken up and sore. My poor car is not.

My frugality reaches into all parts of my life and so I drive a car that has been paid off for many years, with 125,000+ miles on it. But I love my car, it’s like an old friend that’s been with me for the good times and the bad and I hope that we can salvage my old silver buddy.

So, forgive me, but no scenarios tonight. I’m going to try and relax, maybe grab a heating pad for my back and veg out on the couch with a good movie. Scenarios take more concentration and energy than I have right now. I’ll head out to the stores tomorrow (in my husbands car) and I’ll put up scenarios after my shop along with any updates from the field.  So have a good night everyone and be careful! There are some crazy drivers out there.

So sorry to hear about your car – hope it survives. If your back is still sore tomorrow, you need to get it checked out. You need documentation for insurance purposes in case of future problems that don’t always show up immediately. Muscle pain can be brutal. I speak from experience. But tonight, relax and enjoy time with family. 🙂

I pray for your well being. I hope those sore spots heal up and no future problems arise. I understand what you mean about your car. We drive older cars that are paid off. We have taken care of them and my husband is very mechanically sound and has been able to fix problems on them. Our cars have more value to us than the blue book price and it would be unfortunate for us to get in an accident and have it totaled out. I hope this isn’t the case for you and you will be able to have your car fixed. Please rest and take care of your self.

I am SO glad that you’re okay! Lately I have had trouble with tow trucks running red lights (and even driving over curbs to do it) to get to accidents. There certainly are crazy drivers out there. Good luck with the car insurance, and don’t push yourself too hard. I hope you feel better tomorrow. 🙂

Please rest and do get in to see a doctor. It doesn’t always hurt right away and swelling may progress over the next several days. Unfortunately these days we really need to be pro-active and not reactive when it comes to accident and insurance. For yourself and for your family(and for all of us out here!) please take the steps necessary so that if you begin to have effects from the accident your are covered. Been there, still feeling the physical and financial problems. 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear about the accident, but relieved that it wasn’t worse! Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest. I agree with Nancy. As someone who had the misfortune of being rear-ended FIVE times in 10 years, I truly understand the value of seeking medical care. A good chiropractor will be a Godsend if you start to have ANY neck or back pain. The first time I was hit, I was in college. I saw the doctor and he referred me to a chiropractor. It was very helpful. Plus, several months later, when my back suddenly locked up as I was getting up out of a chair and I couldn’t stand up, it helped to have some one to go to. (My friend took me to the chiro immediately!) The last time I was hit (which was about 14 years ago), I felt the effects almost immediately. After taking my toddler home and waiting for my DH to get home from work, I took a walk through the yellow pages and found a chiro that offered emergency after-hours care. It was a huge help!

When I read what your car means to you I couldn’t believe there was another one like me. I feel the same about mine and it is also silver, paid off for yrs and over 125,000 plus miles. I know EXACTLY how you feel. Please take care of yourself and hope the soreness doesn’t last too long. Take Care!
