So today I set out to get to the bottom of the mysterious gift/rebate receipt and exactly how to get one. Thanks to a knowledgeable manager and a very patient & helpful cashier (who gets the cashier of the year award) I now can tell you exactly what needs to be done to get a gift or a rebate receipt! And the best part is it’s actually VERY, VERY easy! It all starts with this mysterious button circled in red in my picture.
STEP #1
Hit the middle button on the left side of the key board pictured here. It wasn’t labeled so we’ll call it the Gift/Rebate button.
STEP #2
It will prompt the cashier to select either “Gift” or “Rebate” receipt, make the selection depending on which you need then enter.
STEP #3
Scan the item & proceed as normal. A second receipt will print out at the end of your transaction. You can see what it looks like below…
If you need multiple items on one receipt you’ll need to repeat the whole process for each item. After my cashier got the hang of it we just started printing rebate receipts for everything just because we could! If you need a gift receipt you follow the same instructions you just select gift instead of rebate. Hope that was helpful! 🙂

Ok…question….when do they have to do this??? After the transaction? after the first receipt has printed? or can they do this, even without you purchasing it that day???
Please give exact details, as I need to get something straightened out, and this will help tremendously!!!!
Thanks!!
Hi Deb, This needs to be done before. Just read through the steps. It’s exactly what they need to do.
this may be a dumb question…but why would I need this done? why is this useful? thanks.
KB – You might want a gift receipt for something you are giving someone else or you might want a rebate receipt so when you send in your rebate they can’t see that you paid for the whole thing with coupons and register rewards.
For example: when you buy three things that have mail in rebates that require the ORIGINAL register receipt….
If you need multiple items on one receipt you’ll need to repeat the whole process for each item. If your particular rebate won’t accept a rebate receipt (I’d call and confirm this original may just mean not a copy) and you need to send out for 3 different rebates then you’ll need to buy them separately.
Thank you for this! I always hate mailing in my original receipt because I never know if I will need it again or if I will need it for another rebate or just to have for my records. This will make it nice for when I know I have a rebate I am going to be doing to still have the original receipt for future reference. Thanks! I went shopping at Walgreens last night and the cashier missed one of my $3 off coupons for the Right Guard, I called the manager and he told me to come in and he would take care of it. Said it was no problem! He was very nice and helpful! I was able to get 4 Right Guards – 2 B1G1 Free – 2 $3/2mgf for 4 deodorants for $1.98! Also realized this Walgreens is 24 hour! Think I will be going to this one for now on!
But the rebate says “mail your original receipt.” Will this rebate receipt work?
It is an original (it’s not a photocopy). I have used rebate receipts in the past for rebates with no problems. However, there are 5 billion different rebates out there and each company can set it’s own rules. I suggest you contact whichever company you plan on using it for to confirm. With so many different rebates it’s impossible to give one answer.
In Sarah B’s situation in comment #7, which coupons would you make sure were scanned first, the BOGO coupons or the $3/2 coupon?
Amy- the BOGO was a store special so the register automatically took off the free product at the end. I just used a $3/2 coupon when I bought the two. My coupon went through just fine with their BOGO sale!
oh my! The things couponing makes you learn jaja!
Just came back from Walgreens and purchased the Neutrogena Clinical Eye contouring kit for the rebate. I happened to read your post this morning so I was armed for battle. Sure enough, neither the cashier nor the manager had a clue what I was talking about. The manager took me aside and when I requested he press the middle button on the far left keypad, VOILA!!, rebate receipt came up as an option. Both the manager and cashier learned something new today and I got my rebate receipt for $34.99 when I actually paid $29.99 before taxes. I love me a $5 moneymaker and I have you to thank for it, Christie, so THANK YOU!!!!!!!
That “mysterios” button has “special receipt” written on it at the walgreens I work at! We use it during christmas time where our managers insist that we ask any customer buying items that look like “gifts” if they want a gift receipt for it! 🙂
Thanks Employee! That sounds better than mystery button! LOL.
I’ve never known how to print a special receipt, been asked a million times.. gonna have to try this out tomorrow!!
Do the rebate receipts reflect price reductions from in-ad coupons? I’m curious, because there is an in-ad coupon for Just for Men haircolor making it $5.99. There is also a printable for -$2 off one package of Just for Men Shampoo in Haircolor or Touch of Gray. These are regularly priced at $7.99. If I use both coupons, will the rebate receipt reflect the $7.99 price or the $5.99 after in ad coupon price. I’m seeing a $4 moneymaker if it reflects the full price.
Sean – it reflects the full price. I used the $5 coupon on the Neutrogena and it showed up at the full price!
I wish I had known last week about this, I would of applied it, but now I know for future purchases/rebates, thanks so much for the information. Great job you are doing!
Wouldn’t it be nice if cashiers were trained on how to use the cash register? How hard is it?
I tried to explain to the cashier today how to print a rebate receipt but she said it was only for the gift receipt. She even called a manager who said the only thing she could do was print off a copy of the transaction from the back computer. Hopefully I’ll have better luck next time with a different clerk and manager.
I’m a WAG cashier & our button is labeled. Mgmt doesn’t like it when I use it but too freakin bad.
these stayfree were 1.99 by my walgreens and bought 6 with (3) 2/2 cpn and a 4 rr and only paid 1.00 for all 6. that was like fri and I doubt I’d get a rebate receipt for it. oh well
I can’t read the frist blog do to the ad covering it up I don’t mind ads just not on the left side I need to read. It doesn’t have an X to delete it????????/ Thank you for all the help you do for us.
My Walgreens got new touch screen reg. they can’t do a markdown on anything RR Q they don’t know how. I tried to return something for another (same item). first item was on sale 2nd item was the next week after sale. They made me pay the full price. If I still wanted it. They said no returns.
Christie – Do you know how they would print this on the new registers? Or do the new registers have this function in plain view for the employee?
