by Christie- on August 16, 2014

Walgreens Shopping ScenariosHere’s my shopping scenario for 8/17. In this scenario you’ll get $32.98 in merchandise, after sales and coupons you’ll pay $4.98 out of pocket and end up with $1.50 RR,  5¢ (50 Balance Reward Points). -) I always bring some extra fillers with me to the register, in case of an emergency!

Hi Christine!
I don’t usually shop at walgreens because their couponing programs are so confusing, but I did purchase 2 almay concealers today and I got a Catalina saying balance rewards members 15% off $30 or 20% off $50 (then 2 different barcodes)- what does this mean? Is it 20% off your total over $50 (so if you spend $60 you get $12 off) or is it only $10 regardless of your amt over $50?

Also do you get beauty reward points if you use the Catalina or is it like redeeming rewards points? I’ve never got a Catalina with rewards members on it before?? And it says manufacture coupon on it??

You should get your beauty points and it should be 15% if you spend $30+ or 20% if you spend $50+ – so on the full amount. 🙂

Thanks christine 🙂
Also would I be able to use walgreens q, manufacture q and RR with this Catalina? Or does it count as a walgreens or manufacture q? Because it’s from walgreens, but on the Catalina it says manufacture q?
Thank you

You should be able to use other coupons on this. However keep in mind it will calculate the totals based on AFTER Walgreens coupons. So if your total is $31 and you give a $2 Walgreens coupon – you’d be below the $30 needed for the 15% off. A manufacturer’s coupon or RR however should not impact the total. Happy shopping!

Almay coupon did not go through at my walgreens because it says not valid on special offers and it is on sale.

could the $3.00/1 – LOreal Advanced Haircare Treatment or Family Size Shampoo or Conditioner, 25.4 oz from RP 8/17 be used instead of the 2/1 L’Oréal Adv. HairStyle excl. 1.7oz, exp, 9/13 (RP 8/17/14) on the hair treatment deal?

I just wanna share my experience at Walgreens today. The store manager was extremely rude and demonstrated an utterly lack of respect and customer service skills towards me. I tried to purchase the arm@hammer products that were on sale this week, but instead of 6.79, the pods (pictured in the ad) were on clearance for 4.19. The manager declined to make the sale informing me that clearance items were not part of the sale. She did this yelling at me from the other register and in front of several customers. I told her that the item was in the picture of the ad and she said there was a disclaimer in the ad (there wasn’t) saying exclusions applied. I responded that if that was the case, she should have a disclaimer sign next to the clearance items as to not mislead or deceive customers into thinking they were part of the sale, since they are pictured in the ad after all. She continued arguing with me and embarrassing me in front of other customers. It was then that I realized that maybe she was aware of how deceiving her management tactics were, as she was very defensive from the very beginning, and reluctant to post the sign to avoid further confusions among customers looking to take advantage of the sale. I believe these are bad business practices that mislead and deceive customers into buying items that are not part of the sale. A simple disclaimer would’ve sufficed, and even just getting rid of the price sign would have fixed the issue for me. However, the manager, exhibited utterly and outrageous disrespect and shamed a customer, who was simply trying to make a purchase, in front of several customers. She could have addressed the issue directly without shouting from the other register- when she wasn’t even cashing people out. She could have acknowledged that leaving the sign left the issue up for interpretation, and that although as a manager she may have the discretion to decline the sale, that does not give her the right to humiliate me in public when I wasn’t even pushing for the sale. At that point, the manager was very heated and refused to hear me, even after my companion told her that she also believe the items were part of the sale and that she agreed the sign was deceiving. I just hope Walgreens ensures managers like this do not continue to tarnish the company’s name and that they are provided with the appropriate customer service training. Also, that store managers ensure their signage do not conflict with advertised sales and if they do, that managers make sure disclaimer signs are posted to inform customers. On the other hand, the cashier in turn was very respectful and professional, which helped ease my humiliation. Kudos to employees like her who know how to treat costumers and shame on management.

Contact corporate. Best thing you can do in that situation because I bet you are not the only one that has happened to.

Has anyone else had trouble at Wags using coupons and RR on transactions like these? I tried today, purchasing the glade and the pencil, using the $1 off and the $3 Almay RR and the register beeped, not taking the coupons. The manger said that this was due to the new policy that the coupon can’t exceed the item cost. Kind of frustrating!

Julie, I too had the same experience in two different Walgreens in two different states. We tried doing almay and pencil and tried using MC n RR. They wouldn’t accept. I am thinking of quitting walgreens totally
