Walgreens Shopping Scenario 1/8/12

by Christie Bisbee on January 7, 2012

UPDATE: Made a small change to the filler items in Transaction #2 because the Syntha Bar is printing a $2 RR instead of a $1.89 or a $1.90.

Here is my Walgreens Shopping Scenario for 1/8/12. If this scenario you’ll get $37.83 in merchandise, spend $10.93 out of pocket and end up with $7 in Register Rewards. So, it’s like you are paying $3.93 for everything or 90% OFF!

I just had to share what those Colgate Total Advanced coupons are going to make free this week at Walgreens & Walmart (and how they can score you MORE coupons)! I’m just SO EXCITED about FREE!

question i was in my walgreens and i purchased an item that had a RR on it and I have a RR from another day I used it to pay for my new items so I did not get a new RR for the item i purchased they told me its because you dont get a RR for and item if you pay for it or on it with a RR is this Correct? I was a bit confused.thanks

Reply

Serena January 7, 2012 at 9:38 pm

No, that is not correct, you can use a RR to pay for another item and still get the RR as long as it is not the same exact thing. You could use a RR from Colgate toothpaste to pay for Tylenol for example.

If you buy 5 chex mix, does the walgreens coupon take off another .25 for the 5th? Or does it only work for four bags?

Reply

couponconie January 7, 2012 at 10:29 pm

I’m pretty sure it will only take off $1 for the first four bought.

Reply

Guest January 8, 2012 at 12:46 am

It will take off 1.25

Sarah Spiegel January 7, 2012 at 9:39 pm

Dee, was it the same item as you purchased previously? You will not get a new RR if you pay for it with the RR of the same type of promo. For instance, if you were to get an RR for the Colgate promo and buy another Colgate promo a few days later and use the RR from the first shopping trip, you won’t get a new RR.

On Pillsbury’s website, you can register to be able to print coupons, and last time I checked there was a $0.60/1 Chex Mix coupon, making the deal even sweeter!!

JUNK.. STUFF I WOULD NOT EVEN USE. NOT A GOOD WEEK. HOPEFULLY BETTER NEXT WEEK.

I guess One womans junk is another womans treasure…

toothpaste, floss, deodorant are all things I know I use (and so do most people I know)

Reply

Guest January 8, 2012 at 12:48 am

I had to LOL at that. I know sometimes we do get lots of “junk” i.e. random vitamins nobody has ever heard of… but a lot of these are household items!!

Reply

Liddy January 8, 2012 at 2:20 am

I love it when people say a sale is just “junk” because it means there might actually be some left on the shelf for me. 🙂 You enjoy a day to sleep in, and I’ll enjoy my shopping trip; we both win!

I use the Tylenol Precise Pain Relief a lot! I always stock up when I can get it free or dirt cheap!!! It’s amazing if you haven’t used it.

Pete January 8, 2012 at 8:49 am

Will use any ending RR’s to buy the 2/$3 paper plates today. We go thru so many of those.

Anyone else having trouble at their Walgreens and the new bars not scanning. I am so upset that most of my coupons won’t scan anymore and they won’t accept them.

Reply

Kristy January 8, 2012 at 1:36 pm

I meant bar codes of course…;)

Reply

Mariah January 8, 2012 at 4:20 pm

Yes I had the same problem today. Couldn’t use, Precise, Reach or Johnson & Johnson coupons…

Reply

carolyn January 8, 2012 at 5:48 pm

Mariah my coupons for the reach floss and the johnsons and johnsons did the same thing today at walgreens but the manager told the cashier to just manually punch them in so obviously he knows about the new barcodes. hope this helps, maybe try a different walgreens or different cashier.

So, question – I have heard it matters if the Manu or Walgreen Q is rung up first – true or no?

Also, Say I had a $3 RR and a $2 RR, since I can’t use them both at once (on the same transaction) could I do two separate transactions?

Thanks!

ali January 8, 2012 at 2:37 pm

You should always scan any manufacturer coupons first before Walgreens coupons. It seems to prevent a lot of beeping that way! Also, if you want to use 2 RR to pay for your items that is completely fine. You can use 50 RR’s in one transaction if you wanted to, but you would have to have 50 items for those RR’s to attach to. So if you want to use a $3 RR and a $2 RR as part of your payment for new items, just make sure you have at least 2 items in your transaction that you don’t already have manufacturer coupons for. (we like to call these “fillers”, and they are usually something cheap like $0.12 clearance Christmas candy or something). Then all of your coupons will scan just fine. Hope that was helpful!

Does the Chex transaction ring up as a $2 RR or is a $2 catalina for your next purchase of Chex? I don’t see a RR noted in the ad for them. Thanks.

Reply

Mayra January 8, 2012 at 2:52 pm

No the Chex mix RR is unadvertised but it’s printing I just bought 8 bags in two separate transactions and got my $2RR every time

Reply

Dianne January 8, 2012 at 2:58 pm

I was gonna question the size on the Chex mix since u said u bought he 4.5 oz and used in store Q for the 5.5oz. But I looked at the ad again and I see u really bought the 5.5 oz and it was a typo.
Am not just picking on u with this tho! I appreciate all ur hard work! I just figure there will be other people like me. Lol. And I know a lot of weeks Walgreens doesnt even put put their sales ads in the paper.

Christie January 8, 2012 at 3:01 pm

Thanks Dianne – I changed it. The national Catalina is for 4.5oz+ and I think I just copied and pasted that.

Well, spent a dollar at my Wags today and have a few RRs printed…would have spent more but when I got to check out the gal at the register indicated that “new manager” won’t allow multiple transactions for RRs. What? I don’t have 50 transactions…only 2. I don’t have 100s of coupons…usually one of any given coupon. So, had to leave my Chex and Tylenol transaction there and do all my stuff at once.

Reply

Christie January 8, 2012 at 5:47 pm

That’s silly. I often have to do multiple transactions to buy stuff for work.

Someone needs to remind these managers that they are a STORE to SELL things, not an art gallery! If they don’t sell things – they don’t have a job.

I cannot seen to get the precise coupon page to load, anyone else having the same problem?

Reply

I switched browsers to finally get it to load. Finally used Internet explorer.

I have been couponing since May and always found Wags frustrating. I have always followed your site and have gotten some great deals. I decided today to do your three scenarios . Which in my mind was a real pain in the butt. It went great I walked out for the first time and felt I saved a lot of money.Thank you for all you do. I should of done your scenarious a long time ..

the colgate toothpaste 5.8 oz with the $15 MQ are ringing 2/$6 and $4 rr.

Carla January 10, 2012 at 10:59 pm

I have been couponing for awhile, but just recently started at Walgreens. Honestly, I am frustrated because it seems like even if I go on the first day of the sale, some jerk already come through and cleared the shelves of all sale items (either that, or my Walgreens is very poorly stocked). Throws off the whole scenario! Thank you though, for all your hard work.

If the store has all of the items that you want to purchase for the register rewards can you get all of them on your first purchase for the rewards to go toward your next purchase?

Reply

Christie January 14, 2012 at 9:26 am

Yes, just don’t pay for an item with a Register Reward you just got from buying the same item or another will not print.
