Senior discount day is like friends and family day used to be — you have to tell the cashier at the beginning (before they start ringing things up), and you have to be sure they go ahead and put in the discount (or else you have to get everything re-rung, as I have learned from bitter experience). It is not enough to have your AARP card tied to your Balance Rewards card nor is it enough to mention that you are looking forward to the senior discount. (My AARP card actually is my Balance Rewards card, and the register is programmed to recognize it enough to award the 5000 points for buying $25 of goods in one trip, and to print out what the special points deals are each month.) That said, I still like the discount.
