Updates From the Field: Walgreens Black Friday

by Christie Bisbee on November 28, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-11-28 at 1.36.48 AMWow! There are so many good deals to be had! Here are some updates from Walgreens today to help your shops go easier this weekend! Happy Thankgsiving. 🙂

Nelimed: I found both varieties of the Neilmed with peelies. One store had $2/1 and another store had $1.50/1. If you find it you do this:

Buy (1) Neilmed Sinufrin Nasal Decongestant Spray or Gel, .5 oz, $5 Sale Price
$2/1, $1.50/1 Save Now Peelie on product
Total = as low as $3, Get Back $5 RR
= FREE + as much as a $2 Money Maker!

Screen Shot 2013-11-28 at 1.40.34 AMPssssst: Here’s another surprise deal for you. You may want to be on the lookout for a hangtag on the Pssssst Dry shampoo. I spotted some $2 Hangtags on them that make for a nice money maker! If you find those you can do this deal…

Buy (1) Pssssst! Instant Dry Shampoo 5.3 oz $4.99 Sale Price
$2/1, Hangtag on product
Total = $2.99, Get Back $5 RR
= FREE + as much as a $2 Money Maker!

Crest: Be careful with the Crest insert coupon, it’s being moody. So you may want to consider doing that deal on it’s own or giving the Crest coupon before all other coupons and register rewards are scanned in your transaction. I was having some issues and we finally figured out what the issue was.

Screen Shot 2013-11-28 at 1.35.56 AMSuave: There was an error in the add with the Suave gift sets. They were pictured in the ad as 50% off but apparently that was a mistake. So if that’s on your list of deals to grab, you’ll want to remove it. I spotted the above sign at my store.

Reach Colgate3wReach Multi-pack: I did not find 2pk of Reach at my store, but I did find a Reach Advanced Design 3 pack! It rings up on sale and does produce the Register Reward. If you have the $1.50 Reach printable coupon that is no longer available, you can use it on this product.

Buy (1) Reach Advanced Design Value Pack Buy 2 Get 1 Free, $3 Sale Price
$1.50/1 Reach 2-pk or multi-pack toothbrush (Except Crystal Clean) printable – NLA
Total = $1.50, Get Back $3 RR
= Three FREE + $1.50 Money Maker!

Reach Total Care: I found the Reach Total Care Whitening, 1 ct, with a 50¢ peelie. If  you don’t have the 75¢/1 Reach printable coupon (no longer available), be on the lookout for this peelie:

Buy (1) Reach Total Care Whitening, 1 ct, $3 Sale  Price
50¢/1 Reach Toothbrush peelie
Total = $2.50, Get Back $3 RR
= FREE + 50¢ Money Maker!

Colgate: I found a blinkie for the Colate Toothpaste that is good on both the Colgate Total and the Max Fresh that are included in the Register Reward Items. Be sure not to buy the Optic White. The optic white is not part of the RR deal. If you find the blinkie, you can do this…

Buy (1) Colgate Total, Max Fresh, or Clean Toothpaste, 4 or 6 oz, $3.49 Sale Price
75¢/1 Colgate Total, Max Fresh or Optic White toothpaste, 4 oz + blinkie
Total = $2.74, Get Back $2.50 RR
= Just 24¢!
Welch's ad & photo4wWelch’s: The Welch’s is advertised in the ad as 2/$4 less $1 coupon in store on 2, final cost $2/3. However, there is no coupon in the store. The November Coupon Book (5379) expired yesterday. The Welch’s $1/2 IVC is in the December Coupon Book (5011), but this one does not start until Sunday (12/1).  My store tried both coupons, and neither one scanned, so they price modified my Welch’s. I did go very early, and there was no signage about an error. I hope they don’t post one and that you too can get your store to honor the pricing noted in the ad.

How did your shop go? Find any great deals? Let us know! 🙂

Did you have problems rolling your RR? I did 1 transaction to buy Reach toothbrush and Scunci hair bands. used my RR from Tums and it did not print RR. The manager said I cannot use manufacturer coupon or any RR to get my RRs for that transaction. is this true?

Reply

Victor November 28, 2013 at 3:24 pm

That’s not true. You can use a RR from a different product to purchase with a MQ also, as long as you don’t have more MQs and RRs than items. I did this several times this week, used my $10 Swisse RR to purchase other things and got the RRs back.

Reply

User November 29, 2013 at 12:08 pm

In this case it is not true. One time there was a case where the manufacturer of a FARR deal decided to not have RR’s print if the customer was using a manufacturer’s coupon, but there’s been no communication about that.

My Walgreens had a sign up on the Welch’s sparkling cider that they didn’t have the coupon, but were adjusting the price. I didn’t notice that it wasn’t adjusted until just now (too much chaos while I was there). I plan on taking my receipt back next time I am there and pointing it out.

there was a sign at my store about the welch’s. they only had 5 bottles left and i bought all 5.
i saw the hangtags on the pppssttttt, but my store only got in 6 of them. when i got there there was only 1 left. i bought it.
we did have the reach 2 packs.
the gulisil is gone.
i had 5 transactions planned out, but only did 3. she would have let me do more, but i needed to refigure some stuff since some things were gone.
i guess it was crazy insane around 2 am in the store. the ba was there trying to buy stuff and there was a lot of chaos. my store also wasn’t limiting. around 8:30 this morning they started too, but it was too late in my opinion.
i am heading back there now and taking the employees some pumpkin and apple pie. 🙂
in my 3 transactions, i spend $8.60 (including tax), used 40,000 points and have 74RR to use.

Thanks so much for clearing the shelves and leaving none for anyone else. What happened to the holiday spirit????

adAstra @Flexines November 28, 2013 at 7:28 pm

IG, it is impossible for stacia to have cleared shelves seeing as she only did three transactions. I hear you, it’s unfair and it happens but let’s be careful before we accuse others. 😉

Hmmm – Taking the Employees Pumpkin and Apple Pie! Sounds like some serious Holiday Spirit to me!

Ummmm….sorry I bought 5 juices! I do not believe my actions should be considered shelf clearing. And just so u know..when I went back at 3:30 there was a large end cap of juice. I didn’t notice it before because I just went to the regular aisle and then checked out in cosmetics. So-come to my store and buy some if u want. Ggeezzz
and thanks for sticking up for me adAstra and Christie 🙂

“i am heading back there now and taking the employees some pumpkin and apple pie. :)”

The thought is nice, but just so you know it’s against Walgreens policy for employees to take any kind of gift from customers, so if they refuse it it’s nothing against you. 🙁

Hi ,

My shopping trip did go well. I did the finish regular tabs 20 count B1G1 free @4.99. These boxed has Try me free rebate on them valid until 12/31/13 and for a total up to $4.50.So it a huge moneymaker too.

There wasn’t a single sale tag up for ANYTHING at my store, but the place was completely empty, so I took my time and found everything I wanted. BA rang me up in 3 transactions, but said I couldn’t get more than 1 of each deal. That was fine with me, I just wanted to roll stuff. The 2 pack GUM toothbrushes for .49 were excellent fillers.

Lynn November 28, 2013 at 5:48 pm

No signs?! And a limit of ONE?! Oh, your store would frustrate me. I am, however, very impressed with your positive attitude, not so sure I would’ve been the same. 😉

IG November 28, 2013 at 6:13 pm

I would have to call the 800# whenever they go back to work and report the store. You can certainly send them an email any day, even on a holiday.

Pepper November 28, 2013 at 10:27 pm

When I got in today we were packed. No time to put up tags. Stores do have a right to limit items sold. It says so in the back of the ad. If you call corporate they will tell you the same thing. It’s just polite to other customers who don’t coupon who see the sale price and want one of the item. It’s greedy to clear the shelf because You can get it free.

Reply

JoAnn November 29, 2013 at 10:26 am

I will say that there were three employees standing around doing nothing but giggling and trying on silly Christmas hats, so I bet they could have worked on hanging up a few tags. HOWEVER, I went in and got exactly what I wanted, no shelves were cleared, I stayed (Happily) within the limits and I have no plans on calling corporate.

Redbox code question: Does anyone know if the Redbox code catalinas can only be used at Walgreen’s Redbox kiosks (like last year) or can they be used at ANY kiosks (like the year before)? Has anyone tested it yet?

Reply

Harriet November 28, 2013 at 8:00 pm

Yes the codes are only good at Walgreens Redbox locations.

Alicia November 30, 2013 at 10:25 am

I used mine at a local gas station and they worked fine.

I noticed on some of the Reach Toothbrushes that there was a peelie for $0.50 off 1. If you don’t already have the $1.50 or $0.75 coupons, keep your eyes out for those.

Did anyone else have trouble with the register taking the mfg coupon for $5 off the Scotch Tape Dispenser that looked like a High Heeled Shoe and was in the ad for $4.99?

Reply

JoAnn November 28, 2013 at 8:39 pm

Nope, she adjusted the coupon down to $4.99 for me.

Reply

Heidi November 29, 2013 at 12:07 am

The register would not take the coupon. It said coupon exceeded the price of the item. The cashier did not know what to do. She called over another cashier who examined the coupon. She said she was a couponer herself and she did not know about this coupon? She told the cashier to override and make the coupon price $4.99, but just this one time (lucky me). Then she told the cashier do not take anymore of those $5 coupons, b/c she never heard of that one. I said I heard about the coupon on “wild for wags”. She was familiar with this site and uses it often. So I told her to look it up, because the coupon IS ligit. (I hope she reads this post and realizes it is her I am talking about.) LOL. I just hate when employees think they can be the “coupon police”. Just take the coupon and let Walgreens get the $5 they deserve. (Riverview, FL)

Where did you find the Pssst dry shampoo in the store? What was it near? I couldn’t find it.

Reply

Dianne November 28, 2013 at 8:29 pm

I had the BA show me where it was yesterday and they only had 2 of them. It was int he Shampoo isle but it was the only item so hard to spot. I would have had a hard time finding it if she hadn’t shown me and of course if your store was like many, they would have been out right away.

Was an interesting change from last year where they had no limits had all register open and it was CHAOS, this year they limited 2 of each RR item, which i thought was reasonable, unfortunately they only had 1 register open so it took a long time, but i kept stepping aside to let the customers with 1 or 2 things get out quick, the only person upset was the manger who after the first 5 couponers wanted to limit transactions to 5 per person which would have made it difficult to roll rr. I was the last couponer in line so i guess i brunt of the managers obvious disgust for us…my cashier was nice tho, she was patient and kind, i bought her a starbucks 🙂

the walgreens in my town had a strict policy of only 5 transactions per day. i waited to go til tonight and they were tired and cranky. had a problem with every one of my transactions going through and cashier had to call for help. impossible to roll rr.

My stores in Little Rock were mostly well stocked. The 24 hr store I went to at 7:30 am did not have any signs up. Very frustrating. They did not catch that the welches coupon didnt start until sunday and ajusted the price. I did one big transaction spending about $70 and getting close to $50 back.
I ran over to another store that opened at 8 am, it had all its tags up!
Later in the day. I went to the store on Rodney Parham the cosmetics counter employee is wonderful and a couponer’s best friend. She helps everyone get the best deals.
I love the suave moraccan shampoos and the only store that had them was the first store i went to. When i went back about 4 pm they had signs up and the girl at the cosmetics counter saw me grab the boxes of suave and told me that she would have to adjust the price since it would not ring up right. So in my last transaction of the day i spent four dollars for two suave sets, a can of coffee, 2 .99 brushes and 4 boxes of jello. And i got 4000 pts. I guess each store is making its own decision about the suave.
Over all i spent about $90 (i am not good enough yet to roll all my transactions), got more than $200 worth of product, and still have over $20 in RR and 8000 pts.

My store has limited to 1 of each offer for about a year now, which I think makes it more fair for everyone in the end. They had most of the items gathered together on an endcap, so once they pointed that out, I found everything I was looking for. Was pleasantly surprised with the $2 off hang tag on the dry shampoo. Cashier knows me so was happy to take me over to cosmetics and do my 4 large transactions (got a bunch of candles and detergent and cookies on the buy 1 get 2 free). Gave the cashier half of my redboxes so she could use with her family.

I ended up getting free nerd guns, basketballs, headphones, memory card, soda, chips and more. I spent $15 oop and now have $90 store credit!

My store was limited and tags not up had an issue with the price of arm and hammer had signs posted 3/4.99 but was ringing up 6.99 after a couple people mentioned they took signs down.

The arm and hammer was advertised at b1g2 @ 6 .99 in the ad.

Hi, last night I noticed in my Walgreens, the manager was so nice that he could honor both 50% off and 2000 points awards.
But I wanted to use 2$ off coupon on any Suave professional product, which I got while getting with the 5$ off of Nexus product from http://www.beautyflashsale.com site. But yesterday I did not bring the 2$ off coupon to the store and thought of buying today with the Hope that they will honor both 50% off and 2000 points. But to my surprise, in one Walgreens, they said they can’t honor and the other walgreens they said they could honor either 50% off or 2000 points award. I went with 50% off and applied $2/1 suave coupon and it took. After the bill is generated, I noticed 2000 ponis awarded. So the value of the suave gift box is 1.5$ (super super deal)…I

walgreens went great had to do two separate orders on the first got Herbal Essences shampoo, crest, two scunci (Be on the lookout for .50 cent pellies on the multi color pack) Reach tooth brushes, and 2 crunch candies. They had to price modify the crest and the scrunci, end up getting all for 1.12 after I used coupons and two r.r.s from earlier this week. The second transaction I got walgreens ultra thin pads, got2be, gum toothbrushes, blistex, and nice drink mix for 2.03 and got back 12.00 r.r I wanted the Aussie but it was ringing up 3 and some change is there any walgreens that it is ringing up 2.99 and giving r.r.’s?

Reply

Brenda November 29, 2013 at 5:22 am

cathy,
Why did they have to price modify the crest and scunci for you? Did you get both of the $3 RR for Crest and the $3RR for Herbal Essences since they are both P&G?
I’m planning on picking up some tomorrow so just wondering if there is an issue for those items. Thanks!

Reply

cathy November 29, 2013 at 7:27 am

For some reason my coupon for .50 cents off crest wasn’t ringing up and the same for the scunci. My rr printed for that order but I did another order at a different walgreens and the crest, reach, and blistex rr wouldn’t print. I didn’t use any of the rr from that company, the manager had to refund and rering me up. She said sometimes they don’t print. Hopefully your order goes smooth with no issue. Happy Shopping.

After spending an hour trying to find everything, my helpful friend (employee) told me the end cap in cosmetics had everything RR…LOL! I had a good time getting (one) of everything and will head back today to see what might be left over. We use the xtras for our outreach gift bags to the homeless…which the “restless legs cream” will come in handy LOL. Happy thanksgving!

My 7 transactions went very smoothly. I loved that they didn’t have any limits on number of transactions or number of items. I didn’t get more than 4 of anything though, so no shelf clearing here. The store was pretty quiet (I think I saw maybe 5 other customers) when I went at 9 am on Thursday. My cashier at the cosmetics counter was excellent & very friendly. I love that they had most of the signs up & many of the RR deals gathered on one endcap. I will continue to go to this Walgreens on “Black Friday.”

The Manager at my hometown Walgreens said that an email was sent to her to honor the ad price of 2/$3 for Welch’s sparkling grape juice even with coupon no longer working. She had it changed in the computer before I checked out, so was able to get sale price. This was on Thursday 11-28.

Reply

dropofrain November 29, 2013 at 10:45 pm

Even though the tag by the Welch’s sparkling juice said 2/$4, they rang up as “Buy 1 for $2.99, get 1 for a penny”—-so after the $1/2 coupon, they were only $1 each.
