OK, so we’ve all been there; we have our fabulous transaction planned, but we have four register rewards to pay with and every item in our cart has a manufacturer coupon. Then there’s the filler you need when you need to get to $20 or $10 to use a dollars off coupon, you might need something else, and a bag of chips now goes for $1.49.
We’re digging through the clearance pile and nothing! I was walking around Walgreens and I saw a few inexpensive and useful items we can rely on for July. Did you see something else, do you have other dependable fillers? Let us know. 🙂

I always choose food over a clearance item when I can. I have used those Ramen noodles as fillers, even if I can’t use them all, someone can. I can donate them! Much more useful in my mind to choose food first.
I used to buy what ever candy was on sale, but then I found the Ramen! I usually buy the boxes of 12 at Walmart, my kids eat them daily! So I always use Ramen as fillers, they are cheaper than candy anyway.
I’ve bought clearance glue, 99 cent poster board, birthday candles & streamers, and canned sweet potatoes as fillers! I love when there’s an in-ad coupon for baking soda or baking powder. I can never have too much of that on hand.
I love the little individual bags of SHELLED pistachio nuts for 99 cents. The bags of pistachios in the shell are the same price but you get so many more and the convince of having them shelled 🙂 One of my favorite recipes is baked chicken encrusted in chopped pistachios and these little bags are perfect for that and when you consider the price per ounce as compared to the bigger bags, they are a great deal!
I have a question, is .69 the best price for nail polish? I know sometimes it’s free with coupons, but I never seem to have THE right coupon for that deal. I want to stock up on nail polish for the teachers and aides at the daycare for a Christmas gift, for their “mistletoes” I saw on pinintrest. (I can’t afford $20 starbucks cards for all the teachers and aides my son knows).
I agree with food items as fillers. I used to get anything that was just the cheapest on clearance as fillers but if you don’t need it or use it that extra $ wasted doesn’t translate into savings. Yesterday I bought a 99 cent can of tuna since I knew I would use it instead of the 49 cent little animal shaped soap I found on clearance. I also love when they have cans on mushrooms and salt on the weekly add coupons. Foil is always a good filler too.
My filler items are always whatever food item they have on sale in their ad that week. I keep a box in my basement for donation items and then throw that item into the box so when there is a food drive at school or work, I have items ready to donate.
