New Balance Rewards Points Redemption at Cash Register!

by Christie- on May 8, 2013

Balance Rewards Points Redemption Receipt

Woo Hoo!!! We’ve got some great news! Walgreens is now allowing Balance Rewards Points to be redeemed in $1 increments at the cash register when making any purchase. This means that if your buying a $2 item and you have 2,000 Balance Rewards Points in your account, you can redeem those points at the register during that transaction and get that item for FREE! Make sense?

The option to redeem your points appears on the cashier screen and not on the pin pad where you pay so, your cashier will inform you if you have any points to redeem and ask you to choose how many you’d like to use depending on your transaction total. The cashier will then select the rewards points you’d like to redeem and you can continue as normal by entering your zip code…

Earned Points are converted into Redemption Dollars in eight (8) tiers as follows:

  1. 1,000 points = $1
  2. 2,000 points = $2
  3. 3,000 points = $3
  4. 5,000 points = $5
  5. 10,000 points = $10
  6. 18,000 points = $20
  7. 30,000 points = $35
  8. 40,000 points = $50

If this points redemption option is not available at your local store, you might have to a wait a little while for those cash registers to be updated but soon this option should be available at all Walgreens stores. Has this worked at your store yet? Please let us know…

(Thanks, Frugal Finder and Frugal Bengal for this awesome news!)

Walgreens’ value was falling because people were not redeeming their points so they are making it easier for people to redeem their points

They have to do something to make up for their sky-high prices. So, you have Balance Rewards, F&F discount, RRs, etc. Same is true at CVS.

My total was $45.23 this morning. I wanted to redeem $45.00 in points, but the only choices shown on the screen were for $5, $10, $20, 0r $35. My cashier asked if I wanted to use $35 and $10 I told her yes but after choosing the $35, it would not let me use any more.

You went over $45 by tax being added in. Without the tax you did not have $10 more to redeem. That’s why you couldn’t use the $10.

I was saving up my points, thinking I would get more than $1 per point which was pointless because in order to get the higher value, I realize I would have to spend $50 to get the high value. I have never spent that much in one trip at Walgreens. Should have known, they always have so many restrictions. So, I’m glad I can redeem for less than $5 now, since it’s worthless to save up my points.

Pat, you can redeem 18000 points for $20 (get $2 profit) and 30 000 points for $35 (you get a $5 profit) so you do not have to spend $50 and also for $50, it is 40 000 points ($10) profit. So there is perks to building it up.

Make sure you ASK to redeem and points if your account total is less than 5,000 points. Team members have been told to not ask the customer if they would like to redeem anything less than 5,000. Only if it is more. Thats why its only shown on the register for the team membee to view, but the customer will see it if theres more than 5,000. Bottom line: If you want to redeem anything less than 5000 points for $1, $2, $3, or $4 in credit, than you have to ask. Be Well:)

Thanks for the 8 tier info. It was very helpful. I noticed that there are differences on register screen at the two local stores here. One of the store the register will show options $1,$2,$3,$5, etc. The other dose not show the options at all. You have to ask the cashier that you want to redeem points.

For the 8 tiers, does anyone have been able to use points combine the two tiers for example, you subtotal is $11.98 (before tax), does anyone able to use tier 1 $1 combining with tier 5 $10? I have tried several times here but each time it only allowed me to pick one tier that was yet. I was not able to combine them. I asked cashier and they could not make it work either? Any suggestions? Thanks!
