Do you know how many times this can be done? Is there a limit on how many times you can get the 1,000 bonus points and can you do more than one set in a transaction and get points for all of them if the limit is higher than 1?

from reading a comment from a post by someone in a test market, they stated that they were only able to receive one item and their points per card, so you would not be able to roll points/money from item to item. I hope that this is not the case and I believe walgreens would lose a lot of business through this method.

I don’t think they will lose a lot since n reality most people don’t roll rr but its good for setting limits atleast when I want a sale item I wont have to watch who’s n front of me buying it all or being a shelf clearer cuz theirs 2 left

from what i’ve read, (no way to confirm of course) is that there won’t be limits on the points but the card will put limits on RR items.

Are they getting rid of their registers rewards all together?!?!

Nope – we’ll have a combination of points deals and Register Rewards. I’m actually pretty excited about some of the points deals – since your points (which are cash) don’t expire for 3 years as long as you shop at Walgreens once every 6 months! Woo Hoo! 🙂

Is there any clarification on how this would work on multiple transactions?

I suggest that you write them and tell them how much you spend with them each year and that you intend to take your business elsewhere if they move ahead, don’t forget to mention moving your prescriptions. That’s what I have been doing all month. I am serious. I will cut them off. I DO NOT need another points based card that delivers ZERO value.

if alot of people stop shopping at walgreens , it will just be better for the rest of us.. . I enjoy going to the store midweek and still have items on sale on the shelves which is why I also love the new riteaid system.

I was kinda thinking the same thing… If I don’t make it to Walgreens right away on Sunday morning, I know I shouldn’t even bother trying to pick up any deals during the week. Maybe if there are a few limits they’d get a lot of couponers buying a few things instead of a few couponers buying everything. 🙂 I’m excited to see how the points add up!

Just a heads up, I was able to sign up for the rewards program from my smartphone. If you want to sign up early and have the card on your Walgreens app then you can do it now.

we have been told in our meetings that register rewards will still be around for the near future. the minimum number of points you need is 5,000 where you can reduce 5 dollars from your total. The max is 50,000 points which will deduct 50 dollars. Ppl who fill prescriptions at Walgreen will score big. As you will get points for every medication. Even more points on 90day supplies.I work in the pharmacy and have already seen people transfer to Walgreen for this reason. Just ask for the brochure in stores 🙂

here’s the points break down

5000=$5
10,000=$10
18,000=$20
30,000=$35
40,000=$50

Why would anyone take their business elsewhere??? They’re NOT getting rid of RR so what’s the big deal! The points thing is just ANOTHER way to earn rewards at Walgreens in ADDITION to RR.

Amber September 6, 2012 at 5:41 pm

I’m going to give them a chance. So far i keep hearing that for now RR are here to stay but there a fewer FARR items after the 16th when the new program starts. Hopefully it will pick up. And just to warn people don’t expect point values like this deal after the first launch week. The week after point values are a lot less.
