Walgreens: Updates From The Field 7/15

by Christie Bisbee on July 15, 2012

Here are some Walgreens updates from my trip today. 🙂

UPDATE (7/16): Looks like the Bottled Water is now just printing ONE Register Reward!

BOTTLED WATER DEAL: If bottled water is on your shopping list you’ll be surprised to know that the 24pks of water are printing not one $1 Register Reward but TWO $1 RR! That makes each 12pk only $1.49 EACH.

The brands of water are regional but I heard from Kari B. that the Ozarka brand water is printing the additional $1 Register Reward,  from my buddy Carie R. that the Ice Mountain water is working, and from Scott J. that the Poland Spring is too. I can tell you from my own experience that it’s working on the Zephyrhills 24pks. So, here’s what the deal looked like for me…

Walgreens Deal
Buy (1) Botteled Water 24pk $3.49
Get Back (2) $1 Register Rewards
= $1.49 EACH or about $0.06 a bottle

LISTERINE DEAL: The only Listerine that worked for me was the Ultra Clean one pictured in the ad. The Zero, Total Care and Advanced all rang up different prices and did not produce the Register Reward. There wasn’t even a spot for the Ultra Clean on the shelf, I guess it was too new. However, they did have it in the back. So, if you don’t find it on the shelf be sure to ask.

EOS DEAL: If you purchase the EOS lip balm that are 2/$6 with a $4 Register Reward this week, be sure to look for some that have $2 off EOS lotion coupons attached.

I wouldn’t plan on using the coupon on the Lotion during this shop (the non sale price is too high), but hold on to it for a future sale or deal.

Also, if you purchased the EOS shave cream last week I wouldn’t use the $4 Register Reward from that deal to pay for the EOS deal this week. Too, risky in my opinion with the Register Rewards being the same dollar amount. There’s a good chance another Register Reward won’t print. I didn’t try it because well – like I said, not worth the risk to me. (Hey $4 is $4! ;))

MITCHUM DEAL: I was pleased to see that the Clinical Strength Mitchum products were also included in the $1.99 price this week. So after the coupon that’s only $0.99 each which is a great price for a Clinical Strength deodorant.

Walgreens Deal
Buy (1) Mitchum or Lady Mitchum AP/Deo 1.5 to 2.7 oz $1.99
$1.00 off any Mitchum or Mitchum for Women product
= $0.99 EACH

So how did your shop go? Find any great deals? Let us know!

(Thanks Kari, Carie & Scott! :))

I got the EOS red ones the first time and it printed. Then I bought the green ones and a RR didn’t print. She rerang the red ones and made it print….but now I am wondering if I used a EOS from last week to pay for the 2nd transaction!!?!?!?!?!?!? I bet I did!

Lisa July 15, 2012 at 6:36 pm

Sometimes only certain colors are part of the RR deal too, at least it was last time for me.

Donna K July 15, 2012 at 4:26 pm

I bought Listerine Total Care Zero this morning and it worked great. No problems with price or the RR printing.

Side note, my cashier was getting a lesson in the new registers that will apparently be used with the new card system.

Glad I read this. I was so mad that my $4 rr for eos didn’t print. Now I realized its cause I used the $4 rr from the eos shave cream. Duh me. I got the listerine zero and no rr either.

Jess July 15, 2012 at 9:43 pm

Buy the listerine ultra clean and you’ll prob get rewards. There was a misprint in their ad 🙁

Reply

Dee July 15, 2012 at 4:47 pm

I bought to Listerine total care and total care zero and both printed RR with no issues. I had no issues with the EOS either,… I want to head back and get some more,.. will be perfect for gift baskets Im making for prizes for a wedding shower!

I got the LIsterine Zero and it did print the RR.

Reply

Jess July 15, 2012 at 9:42 pm

You gotta get the listerine “ultra clean” to make it work. They had a misprint in the ad 🙁

Sheila July 15, 2012 at 5:07 pm

I just bought the Ice Mountain water and I did get 2 catalina’s. One was from Ice Mountain the other said Energizer.I decided to see if it would roll. The second time I bought Ice Mountain used the Energizer catalina as I could not use 2 catalina’s for 1 item and got back 1 catalina that said Ice Mountain. Not sure why it’s coming out saying Energizer.Still a good deal.Iam in Minnesota.

6 Listerine Ultra Clean cool Mint
6 Mitchum deodorants
8 dentex floss

I also ended up with 2 (1 RR from arrowhead)

So I got 80.00 worth of product for 27.89!!! Im pretty happy about this because there has not been a lot lately at Walgreens that has been worth it for me. 😀 Thanks for all you do!!!

Thanks for the update! Just so ya know, I sent ya the email about the Ozarka, and you spelled my name wrong 🙁

Reply

Ehh,… Im sure she didnt do it on purpose.

So hard to get name spellings correct- especially when they are alternate spellings. It was kind of her to give kudos for the information provided an always nice when we extend grace and overlook little mistakes like misspelled names.

Reply

Christie July 15, 2012 at 7:50 pm

Oh so sorry! I’ll change it now. I had an e-mail from Carie and Kari – so it was a little confusing. 😛

Reply

Kari July 16, 2012 at 6:14 pm

Thank you 🙂 I know it’s not a huge deal by any means, but I appreciate you taking the time to change it. For some reason other people seem to think it is rude for me to ask, but I see if I have time to send in a tip, I should have my name spelled correctly. Thanks again!

Reply

Lisa July 15, 2012 at 8:09 pm

I’m sure it was an accident. Maybe you should have emailed her privately like you did about the water…

Reply

chelsea July 16, 2012 at 7:43 pm

Agreed!!!

Megan July 15, 2012 at 5:57 pm

No RR for Listerine Zero for me either 🙁 And for whatever reason the register did NOT want/like my Mitchum coupon from SS online, but fortunately this store is on the old system so she could manually override it.

Reply

Jess July 15, 2012 at 9:40 pm

My store had a shelf sign taped on the shelves that said that some of the listerines listed in the ad were a misprint. They were doing it on the listerine ‘Ultra clean’. I bet you have better luck with that one.

Reply

Suzan July 16, 2012 at 1:23 pm

The new registers can also override beeping coupons, they just need to hit the payment button and then there is a MFG coupon button. Unless you used too many coupons per items, which most catalinas are considered MFG coupons.

Julie July 15, 2012 at 6:02 pm

Got it in Mississippi

Reply

pixel July 15, 2012 at 6:43 pm

Tried listerine zero this morning and it didn’t work. Cashiers were scratching their head over that one for a few minutes.

In the end, they just scanned a different listerine bottle and handed me the listerine zero with my $4 rewards.

Crystal @ Scienceofcouponing July 15, 2012 at 6:54 pm

I was lucky to have a regional coupon for 1.00/1 Arrowhead multi-pack that is combined with the deal above translated to 0.49 a case score!

Reply

Becky July 15, 2012 at 7:02 pm

Where was the coupon? We have Arrowhead water here, too.

Reply

Crystal @ Scienceofcouponing July 15, 2012 at 9:23 pm

06/03 RP it was regional the cover is Bravocado

Reply

Becky July 15, 2012 at 7:14 pm

The water deal, do you think they’ll fix that? The extra catalina that printed out said Energizer on it so the cashier wouldn’t give it to me. She said it was a mistake and they aren’t supposed to be printing. I’m so bummed! I didn’t need the water but I liked the 2 $1 RR’s. I almost want to go to a different one to try but I’m worried they won’t give it to me either.

Reply

VB July 15, 2012 at 7:47 pm

The RR that are printing for the water … can anyone tell me if they say “Redeemable only at Walgreens “?

Reply

jeni July 15, 2012 at 8:17 pm

Yes they are only redeemable at walgreens. Jewel stopped taking RR July 1st because of the “only at wags” wording on the bottom of the RR.

Reply

VB July 15, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Thanks thats exactly why I was asking.

Reply

Kim W July 15, 2012 at 9:59 pm

I know I had heard about Jewel no longer taking coupons stating “only redeemable at…” When my register rewards printed for the water today they said “Redeemable at Walgreens” on the top right where I usually look.. I didn’t look at the bottom (not sure if there was something else there). I took them directly to Jewel and used them there without a problem.

Reply

Mindy July 15, 2012 at 7:52 pm

Aquafina was $5.99 at my store. 🙁

Reply

erin July 15, 2012 at 8:14 pm

The cashier SHOULD have given you the energizer RR. I work at walgreens in Florida, and both $1 RR are printing, It is a mistake, but there is no reason people shouldnt be given the coupon since its not Walgreens mistake and not a walgreens store coupon. Catalina will have to fix it themselves to get it to stop printing the coupon and not have walgreens take the brunt of upset customers over not getting a coupon thats printing for whatever reason. Least this is how my manager looked at it. She even had us telling customers who were getting just 1 pack of water about the extra coupon so we could sell more to them!

All the catalinas that print from walgreens will say on them “redeemable only at walgreens” However in Florida, we can use them at other stores since they say manufacture coupon across the top.

Reply

Suzan July 16, 2012 at 1:27 pm

Those particular employees are probably keeping the coupon for themselves. I also work at Wags. and whatever prints we give to the customer, mistake or not.

Reply

erin July 15, 2012 at 8:16 pm

Also the cool mint and *crap forgot the other flavor* the light blue and dark blue ones, AND the purple total care, all printed the coupon at my store today. We also had the red packs of dentek flossers ringing up at $2.99 BOGO and still printing out the $2 RR so it was an even cheaper deal!

Reply

jan July 15, 2012 at 9:04 pm

how do you tell which water is the deal. Is it the one that appears on your local ad?

Reply

Suzan July 16, 2012 at 1:30 pm

More than likely stores are getting off brands from other sources. Most stores where I live (I work at Wags) are out of the one on sale and are substituting other brands, just ask a manager.

Reply

Krystal July 15, 2012 at 9:05 pm

I am very new at couponing and I know this is a Walgreens blog ,but the the Mitchum deodorant is $1.79 cents right now at Publix. So with the 1$/1 coupon that makes it only 79 cents, instead of 99 cents Sorry If this is an out of place comment, you can delete it if you’d like.

Reply

jan July 15, 2012 at 9:05 pm

meant how do you tell which water deal is generating the RR

Reply

Ann July 15, 2012 at 9:31 pm

The Arrowhead water printed the additional rr !!! Woo ! Thank you.

Reply

rose July 15, 2012 at 9:37 pm

I should have read the blog before I shop. I did use the $4RR from the eos shave cream on the eos lip balm and the new RR did not print. I did not realize my mistake until I was halfway home. I went back to the store and ask for it. The cashier was nice and print it out for me. Good thing I went back because if I go back tomorrow, the same cashier would not be there and it would be harder to get the RR.

Reply

Jess July 15, 2012 at 9:37 pm

I found out last week from a manager that you can not use a companies RR to buy that same companies product and recieve that same register reward printed back to you. You must do a transaction in between (if that makes sense).
Did 5 transactions today which I prob didn’t have to, but it helped me keep it all straight lol…Here’s what I got.
(1) Listerine ultra clean
(2) Crest 3D white toothpaste
(2) EOS lip balms
(1) pack of wexford erasers caps
(2) suave body washes
(2) Oral B floss/picks packs
Total (after all transaction): $16.10
Im really new to couponing so i anyone sees where I could’ve done better please feel free to let me know and thank you in advance 🙂

Reply

Karen A July 19, 2012 at 11:20 pm

It has always been that way Jess. It says it in their coupon policy in fact that you can not get a RR if you use a same company RR. There is an exception but I will not confuse you with it! Good job on the $16 for all- what was the total value!?

Reply

Kari July 15, 2012 at 9:59 pm

On the bottled water at my walgreens in Idaho, they had it marked as getting two $1.00 rr.

Two register rewards printing on the one 24-pack of water in Mason City, IA tonight. Betting that deal may not last long. . .

Reply

Nikky July 15, 2012 at 10:51 pm

The RR did not print for the Listerine Zero, the cashier and the manager told me it was because I used a coupon.. I know that’s a crock of bull because I always use coupons.. I kindly asked for a refund. It’s something about those new registers and today was the first time that my coupons actually scanned…

Christie someone may have already told you but you accidentally posted the wrong RR’s on the water. You have 2-$1 RR’s and it should be the 2nd one is $3 otherwise they wouldn’t end up being $1.49 they would be $2.49 each which is what is advertized. You still do a great job.Love your blog!!!

Reply

Christie July 16, 2012 at 12:59 am

Thanks Cathy! 🙂 As for the water, maybe I wasn’t super clear, it is (2) $1 RR. I was only buying one water at a time. So…

Buy (1) Botteled Water 24pk $3.49
Get Back (2) $1 Register Rewards (So Minus -$2)
= $1.49 EACH 🙂

Jared July 16, 2012 at 12:19 am

The EXA at my Walgreens was just letting us price mod the Listerine down to .99 but not sure how long that will last.

Reply

campanita July 16, 2012 at 12:35 am

Thanks for letting us know about the water, I was running low. My son plays baseball and they don’t last very long. I read in another blog that if you buy 2 cases of water you get $1 RR and $3 RR together, I tried and it worked, for me it is easier to spend $3 RR than $1 RR. I am in California and again GRACIAS CHRISTIE 🙂

PS If you have a 24 hours Walgreens, do it ASAP! Because if it’s a glitch it might be fixed by tomorrow.

Reply

Marissa July 16, 2012 at 2:20 am

I did the same deal last night. I bought 2 cases of arrowhead water and I got $3 ans $1 RR. I used $1 coupons also so it was 0.49 cent each case. Arrowhead expired yesterday so it’s not going to be that good deal today if it’s working.

I live in New Orleans,LA and Ozarka water produced 2 $1 RR. I went to another Wags to get another pack of water and it printed out 2 $1 RR also but the cashier tore my extra RR!!! I guess the manager instructed everyone to throw the energizer RR away.. I wasn’t too upset because $2.50 for a pack of water isn’t so bad but i would’ve loved to have that extra RR!!

Reply

kris July 16, 2012 at 12:05 pm

They threw your rr away? Hmm what location was this so I know not to shop there. I would have major problems if someone tried to keep my rr’s.

Just curious, and I know this doesn’t really have anything to do with this post, but I have heard rumors about Walgreens going to a card system. What does this entail? No more RR? Thoughts on if it is better or worse than RR….

Talking about rolling rewards, next week there are several. Does anyone think it will be a problem to roll P&G products? Like the Venus razor onto the Covergirl? or the ZzzzQuil? Im trying to make my plans a head of time and after seeing what happened today, I dont wanna get up there with my plan all set out and then it wont work because the rewards wont print.

@Skye, they tested a Wags card in a few markets last year, but the test ended and nothing more has come of it (yet?). I had heard it wasn’t very well received, but not much else.

Reply

Lindsay July 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm

Another blog stated the new card system will be rolled out in September, so bye-bye register rewards, hello points on a card that usually won’t compare to register rewards. I feel like this is going to be a JC Penny’s move and Wags will lose a lot of business!

On the water deal, some people reported getting a $3 RR and a $1 RR when they purchased 2 of the 24 packs of water. Is the $3 RR from the Water Manufacturer or Energizer? IF the $3 RR is from the Water Manufacturer, it would be a better deal to get 2 at $1.99 each, instead of 1 for $2.49 after RR. Has anyone tried to buy 2 waters today? I’m curious to find out about the $3 RR that is being reported.

With so many people talking about the deals they are getting, i jut had to try it. So I got an awesome deal on water today! It was super cheap! I couldn’t beleive it. Could this be true? Well it was. I just happened to walk into my kitchen, open the cabinet, grabbed a glass and turned on my faucet. It was amazing seeing this liquid pouring out of the faucet. There was so much it was going down the drain. It just kept coming out, I had to turn the faucet off just to stop the liquid from going down the drain. It was crazy I tell you, just crazy. I didn’t even have to leave my house or waste my gas! It’s amazing how many are going crazy for water, get a reuseable water bottle and fill it up yourself. You’ll be amazed at how much you save. All these bottles end up in landfills. It’s redicious that people pay for bottled water. Just reading everyone complain about not getting the RR for buying water or the cashiers keeping or ripping up the RR just seems so foolish. Remember…get a reuseable water bottle and fill it up before you leave your house. Get a grip people!

Reply

Christie July 16, 2012 at 10:26 pm

Trisha – I can appreciate your being environmentally conscious, I really can. However, here in South Florida and in much of the coastal regions, you really have to have bottled water in your pantry or stock room during hurricane season as part of your emergency supplies.

I saw this as an opportunity to get something that is absolutely necessary for us to have set aside for an emergency during this time of year. I lived through Hurricane Andrew in Miami in 1992 (no water or electricity for 17 days and our roof was gone). And I have been through Wilma (no power or water for two weeks), Frances, Jean and Irene.

So, it’s not really a luxury. (Unless you consider sitting in the dark, sweating your buns off, eating cold canned beans and drinking warm bottled water luxurious).

Reply

ali July 16, 2012 at 11:06 pm

Trisha and Christie,
I appreciate both of your comments, because they are both so true! I did chuckle a bit, Trisha, so thanks for that. Christie is right, though, since every area of our country seems to be having some sort of natural disaster on an ongoing basis, stocking up on emergency water is a MUST for every family. On the other hand, it is not good to throw bottles in the trash or especially not good to leave the bottles of water in a hot car or anything because the chemicals in the plastic can leach into your water, so probably not the best choice for everyday drinking. Lets just all be considerate of each others’ needs, and make sure that if you are buying bottled water, PLEASE PLEASE recycle the bottles and don’t let them get hot. Ok, I’m done…:)

Reply

Christie July 16, 2012 at 11:43 pm

Eeek – yes chemically water, super yucky & bad for you!

Reply

Bearysgirl July 17, 2012 at 9:39 am

I agree with Christie, being that I live in Hurricane alley (new orleans LA) and having went thru Katrina and all the other storms this is the time of year we have to stock up on water. Its no fun being stuck at your house with little supplies, and no running water. Bottled water is a must in this case and a deal like this can’t be passed up! 🙁

Reply

Karen A July 19, 2012 at 11:26 pm

I don’t live in hurricane areas, I buy bottled water because this is America and my choice to do so! Love people’s opinions but please, we live in a FREE country! 🙂 Thanks!

Reply

Trisha July 16, 2012 at 11:11 pm

Well I never thought of hurricanes. For that I apologize. I just read these comments where people are upset about not getting the RR and just think its crazy because it’s just bottled water. Well I take what i said back and I think this is a GREAT DEAL to stock up on bottled water. When you don’t live in an area that is subjected to sever weather then you tend to take that for granted. I’m sure living through the hurricanes, you can never be to prepared. So I hope this deal continues and I HOPE everyone is able to get this deal! So I APOLIGIZE! 🙂

Reply

Christie July 16, 2012 at 11:42 pm

No problem. 🙂 We have 4 reusable Rubbermaid BPA free bottles we use for like normal life, but we always stock up for this time of year. We are unfortunately like disaster experts after so many!

Did the Listerine deal first(had a .55 mq from dentist’s office) and used the $4 RR towards my second trans which was the Cottonelle and the Dentek deal. Had (1) .50 mq for the Dentek. Used my Gift card from the P&G rebate so no OOP today and still have $2 RR from the Dentek.

Thank god you only get 1 rr now for the water, getting two was clearly a glitch and people who were greedy enough to buy cases of water are pathetic. Buy the water if you need it if you buying it for the rr time to rethink things

I agree! Hopefully this new card system will prevent those greedy people from clearing shelves then hoarding all that stuff that they don’t even use or eat or brands they don’t like just for a $1 RR! Just because you can get it for free or a fraction of the cost, doesn’t mean you need it! Save some for the people who do. If there’s a coupon you have for something you don’t need but don’t want to waste, how about you leave it on the item for someone else to use?

Also, is it not coupon fraud or at least immoral to try to get RRs that print because of a glitch. That $3 RR comes from Energizer and not the water and you know that! So when you redeem that unearned RR, Energizer will have to pay Wags when you didn’t even buy the product intended to be printed with it. Also you should know that it was a glitch, has Wags ever had RR that were worth more than the product (I see it’s on sale for 3.49 and u get $4 in RR).

Things like this and taking advantage of Wags is why they are moving to the card system. You only have yourself to blame.

The store I went to yesterday did not have any of the Listerine in the ad tagged, so I had the cashier scan 4 different bottles to find the one ringing up $4.99. The only one in the system was the 500mL Total Care Fresh Mint. RR printed just fine.

I bought 2 EOS lip balm and tried to use 2- $1.00 RR from General Mills and my $4RR did not print. The manager said it was because I was using RR’s to pay for my purchase. When he did the transaction again with no RR’s it printed fine. Are these two the same manufacturer? or Walgreens is not letting roll RR’s anymore?

No you had some kind of fluke. And it sounds like your store isn’t very friendly. 🙁 Maybe try a different wags if there is one in your area.
