*HOT* Today ONLY! Friends & Family Discount

by Christie Bisbee on March 30, 2012

Fabulous news! Walgreens was hinting at a special in-store deal on their Facebook page and I was hoping this was it! Today, Friday March 30th is Friends & Family Day. You can print your coupons HERE to get 15% most purchases and 20% off of Walgreens brand merchandise! I’m super excited as so many already good deals just became great!

I’ve included a list of deals for you. The prices listed are the original pre-discount price but the final price is taking into consideration the 15 or 20% off. If there’s a Walgreens coupon involved, based on past experience then they will give you 15% off but not before the Walgreens coupon. Also be careful with any deals where you have to buy a certain dollar amount because your totals will be lower.  Here are some of the awesome deals I see! SO EXCITED! 🙂

(Thanks Vickie! :-))

Is there a certain way we should hand over our coupons? Friends and family first?

Thanks so much for the tip!!

Can I use this on clearance items, too?
Thanks, Christie!

How do we get the $10 RR for the Coke deal when the ad states limit of 3?

Reply

Julie March 30, 2012 at 7:34 am

can we keep the coupon and re-use it for the next transaction like we usually can with wags q’s?

Reply

amelia March 30, 2012 at 7:47 am

It printed a page of 4 coupons for me. Does this mean I can do 4 transactions? Or do I only get 4 items?

Jenny March 30, 2012 at 11:20 am

You will get the discount off the entire order.

You may not need a new coupon for each transaction. I am not sure why you would, but it will depend on your Walgreens.

Actual employees do NOT give the cashier anything to keep – they just show them the proof of employeement (I have my DH’s pay stub that is just for the discount).

If your store has the old registers you must tell them about the “friends and family” discount BEFORE they ring a single item. They must put it in like you are recieving the employee discount, which must be done before they start the trasaction. The new registers (with the touch screens) they can add the employee/friends and family discount at any time. So make sure to show them the friends and family discount first, before they even start ringing you up. Other than that hand the coupons as you normally would – MFR first, Walgreens second, RRs last. Yes for the $10 coke RR, you have to spend $20 with the discount, so you would need to buy 6 12 packs ($24 without discount, $20.40 with discount). I know when they were 3/$10 the other week my store had up signs that said 6/$20 with $10 RR = 6/$10. They looked like corporate signs to me, so obviously they were fine with people buying 6. It’s up to your store. If they’re well stocked, they will probably not have a problem with you getting 6 – but if you’re taking the last 6, you may run in to more resistant managers/cashiers.

Reply

Jen March 30, 2012 at 8:00 am

Oh and just to clairify, with the new registers they can add the employee discount any time before you start to pay – which includes any MFR coupons. So tell/show them before you give any form of payment, including MFR coupons or RRs.

Thanks so much, I remember now that this was an issue last year. They had to cancel and start over with Friends and Family if you don’t hand them over first. 🙂

Amy March 30, 2012 at 8:01 am

In regard to coupons, employee purchases receive a discount on the price regular customers would pay. For example, Employee purchases ring 15% – 20% off AFTER weekly ad coupons, monthly coupon book and any other in-store coupon books; but BEFORE any manufacturer’s coupons, including register rewards. 🙂

Reply

Guest March 30, 2012 at 12:31 pm

@Amy you’re kinda right. But the discount is prior to the monthly coupon books as well. So if cottonelle was $5, it’d be 4.25 -$1 in store coupon book = 3.25, and not $3.40 🙂

Will the 15%/20% off calculate before any coupons or after?

Reply

pcothran March 30, 2012 at 8:40 am

Thanks so much for editing all the final prices for us, and for the link to the coupon!

And don’t forget to use your WAGS Prescription Club card to earn an additional 10% off on WAGS brands (is that after all discounts??). AND if you are an AARP member, show your card and earn $3 RR with purchase of $10 of WAGS products this month.

GREAT DEALS!!!!!!!!!!

The Friends and Family coupon states to present the coupon to the cashier at the beginning of transaction. Has anyone tried this deal yet with the Cokes. When I used RRs with my Coke transactoin at the beginning of the month, the Coke RR did not print. When it was rung up and no RR used, the $10 coke RR printed out.

I was able to get two of the 8 Coke minis when I bought 6 12 packs of Coke and I received the $10 RR earlier this week.

I just got back and this deal worked fine. I got 6 12-packs and 2 8-packs of mini-Cokes. I got the 15% off and the $10RR printed out.

Reply

Serena March 30, 2012 at 2:41 pm

Didn’t work for me, but I did use two $5 register rewards from something else, maybe that was why?

Reply

Gale March 30, 2012 at 5:00 pm

I found that you can not use any RR for the coke deals… It has 2 be $20 after all coupons & RR’s. I did it this am using 3 RR and did not get the $10. The manager was so sweet, voided the order and re-rang it without using the RR’s & q’s and it did indeed print the $10 RR… HTH

Is the $10 RR on coke a regional deal? My store is offering it.

Reply

Jenny March 30, 2012 at 11:17 am

FYI – The Country Crock should NOT have the discount – discount should not apply to dairy items – ALSO – if you have any in ad coupons to use for diary products DO NOT use them with the discount – the discount will come off the coupon but not the item. This may have been fixed w/the new registers, but not with the old ones.

Reply

LISA March 30, 2012 at 3:44 pm

I don’t think Country Crock is actually a “dairy” product.

amanda March 31, 2012 at 2:29 am

worked for me

Reply

samantha March 31, 2012 at 7:29 am

At my store the Country Crock was considreed dairy. It did not ring up with the 15% off. I also got the full value of my $1 manufacturers taken off. So I got it for the $.99 price.

Just returned from my shopping trip and getting the $10 RR for coke deal….FYI All Coke products are NOT included in RR deal, ONLY Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite. Dr. Pepper is on sale for same price (3/$12) and even though it is a Coke product, it is not included in the RR deal.

Reply

Guest March 31, 2012 at 12:49 am

@Pamela lol Dr. Pepper is not a Coke product, Dr. Pepper is a Dr. Pepper product. Also known as Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group: http://www.drpeppersnapplegroup.com/

Also, not only coke diet coke and sprite. Also Pibb, coke zero, cherry coke, fanta, etc.

It worked out great for me this morning. I had $10RR I needed to use. I bought the Schick Hydro Power Select $9.99, The Mentholatum $5.99, Clearance Cocoa Butter $.59= $16.57-$2.49(15% disc)-$4 Schick q-$10RR=.08 and I got back $9RR.

just tried on diapers.. it’s hard to read the fine print on the coupon but apparently it is not valid on diapers.

Reply

Mallory S. March 30, 2012 at 12:20 pm

what about on wipes?

Reply

Julie March 30, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I got 4 packs of Wags diapers and the coupon took off the 20%, plus I got 10% back on my Wags card. Maybe they didn’t scan the coupon before scanning the diapers?

Reply

Dave March 30, 2012 at 5:53 pm

Cool. Our wags has a sign at register that says F&F not valid on diapers or baby formula

Reply

dealgirl March 30, 2012 at 2:08 pm

I just read the fine print and it doesn’t mention diapers.

Reply

Mel March 30, 2012 at 2:30 pm

I don’t see that it is is not valid on diapers anywhere on the fine print?

Reply

Crystal March 30, 2012 at 9:41 pm

I used this on Wags diapers and trash bags with zero issues. Saved a ton 🙂

Just got back from walgreens. gave them the friends and family first and then the manuf and then the store coupons. They take 20% off the coupon discount. I used the 1 off the kitchen bags and it only gave me 80 cents off

Reply

Amy March 30, 2012 at 12:54 pm

Does anyone know what’s included for the 15%-20% off “eligible store items” but the “fine print” is blurred & impossible to read? I need to buy Enfamil & didn’t know if it would apply the discount to that. Also, I plan to use a $5.00 coupon & if I’m not getting 15% off the Enfamil I don’t want them to deduct 15% of my $5.00 coupon. As I read it above someone used a $1 off coupon for trash bags but they discounted the coupon by 20%… I wonder if Enfamil is considered dairy? 🙂 Probably not but who knows??

Nothing at either store I went to was marked with today’s sale prices and the cashiers had no clue about this sale, but everything went off w/o a hitch in the end. Just make sure to get the sizes Christie has noted and it will be fine. Oh and I only went to 2 stores b/c store 1 was out of garbage bags. no shelf clearing–I promise!

I found Easter pencils clearance priced at $0.09 each! Made for a great filler for my deals. I wish I would have known about this event on Sunday; I would have saved all my shopping for today!

I just returned…and I can’t find my receipt, I don’t think she gave it to me.

I bought 2 viva, 2 colgate, 3 trash bags, used all in ad coups and monthly coups, total paid = $17.05 I got $3.00 + $4.00 register rewards back.

Forgot to use my .50 viva coupon!! ugh but I am most disappointed that I can not mull over this receipt :/

Every item I purchased was eligible and prices below reflect the discount. My cashier waited to scan the Friends and Family coupon until all items and other coupons had been scanned.

7 – Snickers Cream or Peanut Butter Eggs $.33 each – (3) 2/$1 MFQ = $.69 MM (I don’t know how but the register never beeped)
2 – U by Kotex Super Tampons $2.97 each – (2) $1 MFQ = $3.94 Total (earned a $3 RR)
2 – Phillips Milk of Magnesia $2.37 closeout – (2) $2 MFQ = $.74 Total (my mistake here was not having her scan the $2 Wags Q in booklet first)
3 – Nice! 36-count Kitchen Trash Bags $2.99 in-store ad Q – (3) $1 Wags Q in booklet = $4.77 Total

I used (3) RR totaling $6 (counted against the trash bags)
Friends and Family discount totaled $4.90

Subtotal: $2.76 (tax was $1.24)

Total OOP: $4
Total Savings: $31.20

I think the 15%/20% coupon may have confused everything. Here is the breakdown of the Trash Bags:

Nice! Tuff Twist Tie 13 Gallon 36-count Kitchen Trash Bags $10.29 M20%
3 @ $3.43
Store Coupon 3 @ – $1 = – $2.40 (huh?)
Store Coupon 3 @ $2.99 = – $3.12

The deal was (and is) $1.59 per box…. just confusing how they got to it!

One more note… I had to have the manager force my $3RR for the Kotex. The 15% off coupon affected the cost of the product and made the RR not print.

Overall a very nice trip, all done in one transaction and cashiers/management were just the best.

the colgate coupon says available in walmart, so walgreen people didn’t accept those.

What did I do wrong? I found out about the friends and family sale from a text Wags sent me. It states, ‘Show message 2 cashier.’ so I did and they refused to honor it. I asked to speak to the manageress and she said it was only for employees and their families and I should not have received the text. Nowhere in the text does it say anything aboout having to print off a coupon. I put my 3 transactions through anyway but though normally they are super helpful the cashier was annoyed and triple checked every coupon I gave her. I would have loved to have had the extra discount. Do the texts not work by themselves?

Bought two packs of diapers, two boxes of tampax radiant, and two boxes of garbage bags.

Used 2 $2 tampax radiant Q’s and rolled the RR towards the diapers and garbage bags. Paid $13.66 out the door. Great deals!

I know the deal is over but just wanted to thank you so much. I bought 7 boxes of cereal for .69 cents each. And had the coupon (found on target) coffee creamer b1g1 free. Ended up .75 cents for 16 oz ($1.50 for 32oz is a good deal) I bought 8. 🙂

My son thinks I’m crazy but all I know is I don’t have to run to the store for last minute buys (with no discount) on items I use everyday.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR TIME AND EFFORT!!
