Thank you for sharing your find. Easter candy gets so very expensive and when you have several to buy for this really helps out.

Thanks for leaving 1 when you need 2 for the coupon.

I was in Wags when you posted this. I went over to the candy section and there was 2 whole boxes!! I grabbed 4 and then to my amazement watched this lady dump all TWO boxes into her basket!! She asked me if I was getting any and I said “No, I grabbed 4 already, that’s enough for me”, she then said “well these are going to be free so I’m going to take them.” I then said “Well maybe someone else might like some free candy”, she then paired them up and one was left over so she put it back on the self, and walked away with over 30+ bags of free candy. Just shocked me because I have never seen this happen until now. However thanks for the heads up on the candy!

I was at CVS last night and saw a lady do the same thing with the clearanced Zhu Zhu’s (and there was a ton on the shelf!). Other then reselling them, I couldn’t understand why she would want so many of the SAME set!

Reply

Jessica March 12, 2012 at 1:47 pm

She could be donating them. I buy up clearanced items because I pack over 100 boxes every year full of toys and candy and hygeine items to give to needy children at Christmas time thru Operation Chirstmas Child.
The candy, however, since it’s not a clearanced item, I would have left plenty on the shelf.

Maya March 12, 2012 at 1:41 pm

This just makes me sick. The only comfort I can find in this is that those candy will stay on her butt instead of mine for the rest of her life.

I feel much better… I am making 3 easter baskets (son, daughter, and goddaughter) this year and decided that I would give them more useful items like sippy cups, (they are all under 3) power toothbrush, ojagel my toothpaste, coloring books and a big toy ( BTW I stopped at 3 different walgreens and in one of them I found a huge selection of clearance toys like princess tea sets originally 9.99 marked down to 1.74 and cinderella dress up which include dress, crown and wand also marked down 1.74) any who back to my point … I grabbed 6 little bags and the cashier gave me the ugliest look I felt so bad even though the shelf still had a full box

Good morning everyone,
I would like to say as far as shelf clearing I DO NOT AGREE with it. But my company is a huge company in the travel industry and the ladies of my Community Service Task Force at our call center are building Easter baskets for kids at a domestic violence shelter. I did “buy” over 50 bags of candy from 3 different stores this morning. We will be donating every bit of it so i felt less guilty for it. However, my stores knows that we scoop up on the free deals like this for charity so they do not have a problem with it, when it comes to my normal stock pile I stick to he 2 item limit on everything else..

Reply

nicole g March 12, 2012 at 12:25 pm

does it really matter?, should shelf clearing be okay for only certain people and i really don’t believe you wouldn’t be upset if someone did the same thing you did and you never got any free deals

Reply

Melanie March 12, 2012 at 12:36 pm

While I agree with you, Nicole G., I did notice she said she went to 3 different stores. If someone has 7 Walgreens in their city, I don’t have a problem with them going to 5 different stores and grabbing some (just some!) at each store—spreading it out. What I have a problem with is when a small town only has 1 or 2 Walgreens and someone wipes them completely out, and the other customers don’t have another Walgreens within 50 miles. That ticks me off!

Reply

Katie March 12, 2012 at 12:47 pm

In the future, you should see if you can special order products like this so that you don’t have to feel guilty at all about clearing the shelves.

Reply

jenny March 12, 2012 at 12:31 pm

The thing that sucks is the mean people go and take em off shelves when they realization they are free. I just got 4 and when I was done she ran right to shelf. And there were 3 full boxes there when I left.

Reply

Ashley March 12, 2012 at 1:39 pm

What quantity defines a shelf clearer, anyways? If a store only has 3 of an item and one person buys those 3…they should feel guilty because they “cleared the shelf”? Everyone gets upset or disappointed when they run out to the store to get a deal and the shelf is empty. This happens to me weekly. The game of couponing is pretty much whoever gets there first. If a store doesn’t have a limit, you can’t blame someone for taking all they have, especially when they are donating to a great cause. Natasha- I bought several bags from a few different stores in my area and they are ALL going to our church’s Easter carnival outreach this month. They will be thrilled. I’m a stay at home mom and can’t afford to donate a lot of candy at regular price, so when I’m able to donate a lot of candy in my price range (paying sales tax only), it really helps! I also agree with you about your personal stockpile. I’m not a hoarder. I usually keep 2-3 of an item on hand and donate the others to family members, our church, or our community’s women’s shelter.

Reply

Kayla March 12, 2012 at 4:27 pm

It’s not a matter of having only 3 items on a shelf and buying all 3 of them. It’s when there’s 20-50 of said item and taking them all. Whether it’s for charity or not, it’s still wrong to take them all. Some of us who can’t afford something (I’m not talking about candy) that they need and find a sweet deal but the shelves are cleared because one person felt like being selfish, it’s wrong. I only take what I know is reasonable. If there’s a lot I’ll go for 4-5, if there’s only a few I’ll only take 1-2. Just enough for my family.

Reply

Shannon March 13, 2012 at 9:25 am

Well said Ashley. Couponing is a game of whoever gets there first. You win some and you lose some. If people have a problem with no stock when they get to the store they need to change their game plan.

Reply

Sabrina March 12, 2012 at 1:44 pm

I buy for charities all the time and that’s why someone would need Zhu Zhus all the same or whatever. Just yesterday I helped put together Easter baskets for local children in need. Stop being so hateful to people who are buying things for others in need, shelf clearing or not. Any way you look at it, though, be kind to one another. Geez louise!

Reply

Jane March 12, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Sabrina…..charity should not be an excuse to clear a shelf as many people could not afford to buy unless it was free or cheap with a coupon. They may not be able to benefit from a charity and to take massive quantities leaves nothing for other children with hard working parents trying to provide for their families. No one is better than anyone else and being greedy for a charity isn’t right as well as being greedy for yourself isn’t right. There is no justification for depriving others in need to benefit “others in need”

I’m assuming you posted from your cell phone to account for all the misspelled words. If you’re gonna spar with me at least learn to spell so it looks like an intelligent response.
Now for my response, people can afford it with coupons. That’s the point. Leaving some for others that might not be able to get something unless it’s on sale with a coupon is the nice thing to do (something that has obviously escaped you).
You may not, but I BRUSH MY teeth so toothpaste is important. Everything, including chapsticK is important if you need it.

To be fair it’s known that you should leave a 10% tip. And that was 10%. Maybe try putting more effort into it and if they can afford it they’ll leave you more. I tip depending on service. If it’s bad I’ll leave a buck. If it’s great I tip 20-25%.

Reply

Lisa March 12, 2012 at 11:13 pm

I was a server & sometimes, no matter how GREAT the service is, people still don’t tip right. 15% is standard.

Reply

dee March 12, 2012 at 11:30 pm

obviously u have never been a server we only make 4.00 an hour and what ever tips we claim is taxed also so a 4o hour paychk for me is only like 30.00. and just fyi u r supposed to tip 15% at least depending on service and i like how alot of people go right to judging my service. if u leave nothing i still have to pay to wait on u because it is mandatory that i pay out the busser and bartender from my sales not tips. please dont judge next time and i wasnt even commenting on me serving in general before it was how just beacause u resell product it doesnt make me a shelf clearer which i am not

Reply

Heather March 13, 2012 at 10:49 pm

@Dee: “obviously u have never been a server we only make 4.00 an hour and what ever tips we claim is taxed also so a 4o hour paychk for me is only like 30.00.” You really have no argument on this one. To be honest, when you accepted a job as a server you KNEW you would only make $4 an hour….so exactly why are you complaining? Your tips are NOT guaranteed. If you don’t like it then I suggest you find a new job that pays you more than $4 an hour. I’m so sick of servers complaining about how little they make per hour because yall KNEW that when you took the job! FYI, I DO tip HIGH for GOOD service, but I do NOT tip for bad service PERIOD.

Reply

Shannon March 13, 2012 at 9:31 am

Actually 15% is MINIMUM because no matter what they servers have to tip out to host/bussers/bartenders. 18% if they did a good job and 20% if they did great. I will leave over that sometimes too. I was only a server for 6 months, but I do know the correct ettiquette….and yes, don’t go out to eat if you can’t afford 15% tip minimum.

Reply

Tere March 12, 2012 at 2:42 pm

I think that tipping is great but now people want get tip for everything they do. I don’t that your statement about people not going to eat because they don’t have for a tip is correct either. If everyone that doesn’t leave a tip stop eating out would you have a job. Sometime I get terrible service and I don’t leave a tip either why should I reward someone that doesn’t care if I need something or not.

the dollar menu at mcdonalds is where u need to be if u cant tip. i work at a nicer rest and last night i had a family of 6 come in with 4 of them being kids they made them get only water and soup which is unlimited and they each had 4 or 5 bowls of it which is alot of work. i know my kids would have prefered the dollar menu at mcdonalds. thats just like saying ok kids we get to go to a nice rest. but all u get is soup what a let down. i think its funny that i thought the other comment that i made would have gotten more of a response not the one about serving. tks to all of u who r on my side im glad that some people realize the truth about serving

im kind of tired of people degrading other people just because of what they tip. Maybe that was the one nice meal my family could afford this year, and 10% was all we could afford or even wanted to give because let’s face it are you going to give $10 of your hard earned money to a mediocre waitress just because she thinks you should take into consideration her experience and not your own. just something to think about

Reply

Dee L. March 12, 2012 at 3:57 pm

As a former waitress I can give one good reason why you should tip. 1 a waitress only makes $4 an hour because it is assumed she will be tipped, 2, a server also must tip out the other staff (bussers, food runners, bartenders) based not on her tips but a % of her SALES. So if you spend $200 dollars on a meal, and only leave $10 dollars, She still has to tip 10% of the $200 to other staff, which is $20, so you just made her spend $10 out of her pocket =\ That’s not very nice.

I’m still against shelf clearing though.

Reply

Dee L. March 12, 2012 at 3:58 pm

Sorry, that’s 2 reasons, ^_^

nicole g March 12, 2012 at 5:00 pm

are you kidding me? it’s the law that if a waitress/waiter doesn’t make min. wage after tips and the “$4/hour” wage an employee has to compensate them. That is rarely the case though…however what is more often the case and I have NEVER met anyone serving that when being honest this isn’t the case…is that most incorrectly claim their tips to avoid taxes, etc. I’ve known so many people that will clear 100.+ a day on weekends, etc. and only claim $16., etc, i’m not saying there aren’t honest people out there but really it isn’t as bad as a lot of people claim…and really if i was ever at a job where i had to pay people out of my own pocket, i would quit. does that even make sense?

Reply

Dee L. March 12, 2012 at 5:41 pm

Guess I’m just an honest person =)

Reply

samantha March 12, 2012 at 8:23 pm

Nicole, you’ve obviously never been a server, hostess, bartender, etc. because it’s exactly like Dee said. Guess what? The law that says you must make minimum wage doesn’t take into account any monies that the restaurant requires you to “tip out” to the other staff. And you are rarely told that you need to tip out, or how much, when you appky for the job….usually it’s a surprise on your first day. Oh, and most places nowadays require your server to pay the credit card fee of 3.9% if you use a credit card. Businesses want to make as much money as they can, so instead of paying the fee to the credit card company, they pass the fee along to the server. And when claiming tips, it’s not easy to cheat on taxes. You are required to claim at least 12% of your day’s sales as tips and to prevent an audit you should claim 15-20%….which sometimes, after I tipped out 20% of my tips to the busboys (illegals) and bartenders, then 3.9% for credit card fees (about 90% of my sales were on credit cards), and 100% of any tips charged to a credit card (required by law), I actually claimed MORE in tips than I actually made! So on the really good days, I did claim less than I actually made….to make up for the many days I claimed more than I made. Btw, I tip 25-50% for excellent service, ~20% for good/avg service, 15% for mediocre service…..and a penny, yes $0.01, for crappy service. Why a penny? Cuz if you leave nothing, the server may think you are cheap or forgot….leave a penny and they know they gave crappy service (believe me, all servers know what the penny means).

Reply

dee March 12, 2012 at 11:41 pm

in what world do u live in thats not true employers do not really care what u make thay only have to pay the 4 .00. and your right it doesnt make sense but i have 2 kids and jobs r hard to come by that will work with your schedule so thats why i stay. its not all bad but its been pretty bad lately.

Unfortunately that just gave the impression that being greedy was an ok thing to be. Well, it’s not and people are really getting tired of it. I was highly surprised to find some today after this post had been made on several blogs. I took 4 bags from 2 different stores. My store doesn’t inforce the “1 Per Customer Rule” but I’m sure enough if people keep buying large quantities they will ruin it for everyone else by a. clearing the shelfs and b. making it to where they won’t let us use these coupons for these items.

Good luck to all who are interested though!

Did anyone else have an issue with the coupon beeping? My store had a TON. I tried to purchase 6 of the individual packages using one of the coupons .. and the coupon beeped and the cashier said it stated something like “item not found”. She said it was for the bigger ones. Anyone else have the coupon beep?

Toni March 13, 2012 at 10:56 am

I had the coupon beep this morning and the cashier said the same thing, “It’s for the bigger bags”. That must be why there were so many left on the shelf!

I only plan to purchase two (if i find any) and that’s coming from a person who has a family of nine. I don’t get these shelf-hoarders fyi candy is bad for your teeth!

scanned the coupon but it did not take off the $1 at all. Did anyone else have problems? I was told I could not use the coupon and it was a misprint. This is the third or fourth “misprint” lately. It is a bit frustrating.

My store had lots but would t even try to scan the coupon. She called a manager and he said he thought it was for the big bags. No free candy for me ;0)

I tried to get some of these tonight. Unfortunately the store said they only had about 30 and someone bought them all. They were ‘donating’ them. If you in my area and did this could you please ‘donate’ 4 to my kiddos. They would have liked them in their Easter baskets. Please donate by leaving a couple on the shelf.

So, has anyone been able to get the jellybeans and use the coupon with out beeping later this evening? Not sure I should even bother trying tomorrow am, but I have some RRs that expire tomorrow. I need some filler items, so could I do this deal and one bag would be a filler for RRs? I am new at the drugstore deals…

My goodness. I totally agree that there must be a full moon. I don’t agree in shelf clearing either but unless you see it being done, that’s not always the case. I’ve had instances where my store knowingly pulls the items off the shelf or they limit how much of it they put out. I also know an employee that holds the items for herself & buys them when she gets off. Plus you have thousands of people reading these blogs & facebook posts that are also looking for a deal so if everyone that reads it gets 2-4 items that clears the store. I went to 6 stores & got 70 of them to use as favors for a baby shower I’m doing this weekend. Each store had several boxes which each have 24-30 so someone getting 18 at a time is FAR from shelf clearing. I might have been more disappointed if I couldn’t get an item that I actually needed like food & personal care or it was a huge savings like $10 or more but its just $0.50 candy for crying out loud. There are plenty of other things we can spend our energy on. Just my 2 cents.

Samatha March 13, 2012 at 9:03 am

Well Olu…I think thats a bit excessive, don’t you? 70…are you freaking kidding me. What a hog!!!

Reply

Shannon March 13, 2012 at 9:41 am

She has a plan for them. It’s not like they are going to sit on a shelf at her house and collect dust!

Reply

olu March 13, 2012 at 11:22 am

@ Samatha- reading is fundamental. you obviously missed the part where I said I went to 6 different stores or the fact that its for a shower and it’s not just sitting on my floor collecting dust. If I wanted to be a hog I could have easily gotten that much in just 2 stores. We have 60 people confirmed and the extra 10 was in case others that didn’t rsvp show up, they’d still get a goodie bag. I’m trying to do a decent shower for someone I care about on a $100 shoestring budget and this was a great help.

I think it’s rather judgmental of you to tell someone what’s excessive for them when you’re not in their shoes. 20 boxes of cereal will last 2 years in our house but may last 2 weeks in a family of 4. 70 jelly bags may last forever for you but will last one weekend for the purpose I need it. To each their own!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well said Olu!! I like how people will judge you and say what you’re doing is wrong but then turn around and call you names. I find that quite amusing! Next time just don’t say anything thing on here. Enjoy your “score” and share the news with friends and family who will be happy for you 🙂

I’m sorry, Samantha but take a step back and read your posts. They have been mean and quite frankly, juvenile. I understand the frustration but there is really no excuse for being catty. If you feel so violated, go to your walgreens and form a freakin’ barricade over the jellybeans already. Stop harrassing wildforwags fans. We don’t visit this website to look for fights. Most of us come here to thank Christie and inform people of changes and deals we see that she might like to share.

It is so easy to type away without realizing you’re becoming a bully. There is no pause or no social graces to speak of when you are behind a screen name. Breathe and relax. People will hoard and clear shelves whether you like it or not. The next time we see one, maybe tap her in the shoulders and say leave some for the others? That might make more impact than what you are doing now….

Peace and freakin’ love each other already!

Thanks for posting such a great deal. I really appreciate it. I work with underpriveleged children who live in residential placements. I am considering this deal so my group can enjoy some Easter candy they otherwise won’t get since many don’t even have parents or homes to go to for the holidays. After reading these posts, many of you should be ashamed. Arguing over jelly beans people are buying for charity and those less fortunate is juvenile. Be grateful for what you have and stop demeaning people who put others before themselves. Some of you should learn to be more humble and less selfish.

If you cleared out any store in getting them, that’s what I consider inconsiderate & disagree with.

If you went to 19 stores and left several boxes still on the shelf …..then more power to you and get your 220 packs!

Wow, can’t believe the debate going on, especially those calling charity purchasers “greedy” and the charity purchasers called their accusers “selfish”. There will be more items to buy, full price and sale price. It’s a choice to coupon, a choice to enjoy it, and a choice to get riled up over it if someone isn’t behaving in a way you want them to.

I just came from a store in Colorado. I explained what i was doing, buying them for the children’s Easter egg hunt at our church, the manager said I was taking advantage of the system and refused to sell them to me. He said that quantity was limited to 1 per customer. I suggested that I return the register 20 times and he told me it wouldn’t work because he was removing the product from the shelf. I reminded him that it was the Wal-Green coupon that allowed the purchase to be free, excluding tax. I get very frustrated with store employees, you would think I was taking money out of their pocket. I will not even return to this Wal-Greens store again.

I just got some from Austin, apparently corporate have fixed the coupon, but they did give them to me for 1cent each. It was working in the morning and the cashier was annoyed because she had 8 put away for herself:)

Lisa March 13, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Cashier refused it today in Tallahassee, Fl. Tried to say it was only for the size pictured. I pointed out the word “any” and she snapped at me “Why would we give it to you for free?” i told her I did not know but that the coupon seemed very clear to me. If this was a Wags mistake, they should honor it and not make us feel like criminals for using one of their coupons. I go hot and c old with Walgreens, and this one has left me cold.

Looks like Walgreens registers have been updated and the coupon will beep for the small bags–this deal won’t work anymore.

Reply

Jane March 13, 2012 at 8:09 pm

I donate to charities all the time so I have nothing against that. If you’re concerned about donating why not ask the store to order extra for you (not being catty just stating a suggestion). Those who are indignant about others complaining about clearing shelves for charity need to take a step back. Yes, it’s for a good cause but do you really think taking it all and leaving nothing for others is right…..really think about that. There are others out there that need things just as bad as the charity you’re clearing the shelf for. Again, not being catty just stating a fact.

Darcy March 13, 2012 at 9:29 pm

I purchased 8 in the morning and when I went back in the afternoon the clerk said they changed the computer system and it wouldn’t accept it anymore even though the coupon did not specify a size and said ANY on it. They really need to accept their in store coupons for what they are and not change the rules in mid stream.

I live in a small town. There are only two places that accept donations. I work for Walgreens. Every week I see the same people come flying in the door and grab up
everything they can get their grubby hands on. Then proudly exclaim, I am going to donate. Bullshit, I know the sales. I know what was free. I NEVER see any of it in the donations. I can not understand why some people think that saying I donate is an excuse for GREED.
So the family that is trying to scrape by on 100 dollar grocery bill a month is SOL because someone else is going to Donate. Once again. BS!
The District manager informed us yesterday that Walgreens is putting a stop to
All this greed. I can not wait until they do.
yeah sure its JUST jelly beans, last week it was JUST chapstick the week before it was Just candy bars. See the pattern?
It makes me sick. Not to mention it is a DEADLY SIN. Actually I think it is two.
Gluttony and Greed!

Karina March 14, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Wow, My Favorite is people that have a potty mouth and them talk about sins…lol.I know you are up set because I dont see the donations in my town ether. I got 10 bags(still left some the bags are relly little, but still fealt guilty) for my sons class, I read all the 100’s that other people got and the jocke is on them we open a bag yesterday all the zero’s in the world did not take away the funny after taste.

You may not be the piggy but your attitude can be likened to that of one. You talk about couponers “with their grubby hands” but YOU are the one behind the counter. People think that couponers are just down-on-their-luck individuals who cannot afford stuff. Have you ever thought that maybe they are just smart consumers? It’s not about how much you spend on stuff, honey. It’s how much you save.

I abhor shelf-clearers myself. I’m not reacting to your post because you hate them. I just dislike self-righteous people like you.

IMO if Wags doesn’t want their customers to take advantage of deals they should not make the deals so good!! Who is in charge of proofreading these coupons? You would think that a big corporate company would double-check before they print these coupons. BTW- I’m not a shelf-cleaerer…I could only allow myself to take 4 but I don’t think that it’s managements responsibility to be so judgemental. They should just put up a sign with a limit instead of making couponers feel like thieves.

Reply

Jeni March 16, 2012 at 11:54 am

Why would you declare yourself a “shelf cleaner” and be proud of it! So the people like me who LOVE to coupon but don’t have time to get 200 bags and “donate” to their stock pile. I want some for my 3 kids easter baskets who I support on my own while going to school. I realize it’s a choice to coupon, but come on. Don’t be so GREEDY! You are making them change all the rules, and you will be the first one complaining that they do!

I went into my store tonight to get a couple little bags and there was a sign up stating that the coupon was not for the small bags. I wondered why they did that but I can see after reading all 100+ posts that corp changed the system.

I also heard in my store that all of their managers were quitting because walgreens had decided to cap everyones salary at $14 an hr and anyone making more than that would be getting $5 cut back in pay soon. what is up with wags lately???
